DANVILLE, Va. - Sandra Buchanan Eanes, 59, of 1497 Myrtle Avenue, died Thursday, July 5, 2001, at Danville Regional Medical Center after two years of declining health.
Born Dec. 16, 1941, in Danville, she was the daughter of Albert C. Reid, who survives, and Clarise Buckner Reid Gentry.
She was married
to Wayne Clark Eanes, who survives. She lived her entire life in Danville and prior to her retirement worked for Dan River Mills. She was a member of the Third Avenue Congregational Christian Church.
Survivors, in addition to her father and husband, include one son, Jud Dexter Buchanan III of Danville; one brother William R. Gentry of Wylesville; one sister, Delores J. Jones of Ringgold and two grandchildren.
The funeral service will be held 11 a.m. Saturday at Wrenn-Yeatts North Main Chapel with the Rev. Freddy J. Vicks officiating. Interment
will follow in Highland Burial Park.
The family will receive friends at the residence of Jud Buchanan, 451 Granville Drive.

Virgie Grasty
DANVILLE, Va. - Virgie L. Grasty, 86, of 321 Lincoln St. #8, died Saturday, June 30, 2001, at Danville Regional Medical Center.
Born Nov. 22, 1914, in Danville, she was a daughter of Willie Whitlock and Martha Lanier Whitlock.
She was married
to Isaac Grasty, who predeceased her. She was employed at Lorillard Tobacco Company for many years prior to her retirement.
Survivors include one daughter, Gloria Williams of Mitchellville, Md.
The funeral service will be held 2 p.m. Sunday at Bibleway Cathedral with Elder Phillip Campbell officiating. Interment
will follow at Danville Memorial Gardens.
The family will receive friends at the residence.

Sarah Hackler
GALAX, Va. - Sarah Katherine Smith Hackler, 83, died Saturday, June 30, 2001, at Twin County Regional Hospital.
Born Jan. 23, 1918, in Norton, she was the daughter of Samuel Smith and Salatha Petrey Smith.
Survivors include five daughters, Shirley Tucker and Barbara Hall of Pelham, N.C., Patricia Fielder of Lauderdale, Miss., Sandra Coomes of Galax and Dana Cockram of Meadows of Dan; one son, Warren Eugene Hackler of Galax; one sister, Ruby Darnell of Kingsport, Tenn., 18 grandchildren, 22 great-grandchildren, and two great-great grandchildren.
The family received friends 7-9 p.m. Tuesday, July 3, 2001, at Vaughan-Guynn Funeral Home Chapel in Galax.

Vadis Hackney
DANVILLE, Va. - Vadis Lee Hackney, 81, of 8 Brown Lane, died Saturday morning, July 7, 2001, at the residence after sveral months of declining health.
Born June 9, 1920, in Halifax County, he was a son of Selma Hackney and Sudie Simmons Hackney.
He was married
to Helen Crenshaw Hackney, who survives. He spent most of his life in Danville where he worked for Dan River Inc. and was a member of First Presbyterian Church in Halifax.
Survivors, in addition to his wife of the residence, include one daughter, Brenda Young of Danville; one son, Mike Hackney of Richmond; one brother, Frank Hackney of South Boston, and four grandchildren.
He was predeceased, in addition to his parents, by one sister, Carrie Hackney.
The graveside service will by held 11 a.m. Monday at Danville Memorial Gardens with the Rev. William C. Bladock and the Rev. Daryl Joyce officiating.
The family will receive friends at the residence in Westover Hills.

DANVILLE, Va. - Lucy Rakes Hall, 83, of 242 Bromley Drive, died Thursday morning, July 5, 2001, at the residence after nine months of declining health.
Born March 7, 1918, in Patrick County, she was the daughter of Amos David Rakes and Hattie Goad Rakes.
She was married
Aug. 3, 1969, to Kyle Lee Hall, who survives. She made her home in the Danville area since 1959, after living a number of years in Reidsville, N.C. She retired from Dan River Inc. and was a member of Westover Baptist Church and the Willing Workers Sunday School Class of the church.
Survivors, in addition to her husband of the residence, include two daughters, Virginia Carolyn McCarty of Dry Fork and Ruth Anne C. Petty of Danville; two sisters, Zelma Bullins of Greensboro, N.C. and Thelma Strader of Reidsville, N.C.; two brothers, Bill Rakes of Bassett and Pastor Elder J.R. Rakes of Patrick Springs, six grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.
She was predeceased, in addition to her parents, by a son, Paul C. Cain and a daughter, Hattie C. Ratliff.
The funeral will be held 2 p.m. Saturday at Swicegood Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Robert Vermillion officiating. Interment
will follow at Danville Memorial Gardens.

GRETNA, Va. - Mary Margaret Harris Hammock, 52, of 5156 Rockford School Road, died Saturday, July 7, 2001, at the residence.
Born Feb. 19, 1949, in Lynchburg, she was the daughter of Mamie Wright Harris, who survives, and John R. Harris Sr.
She was married
to Phillip “Buddy” Hammock Sr., who survives. She was a member of First Southern Baptist Church and a former employee of Techma U.S.A.
Survivors, in addition to her mother of Forest and husband of the residence, include two sons, Phillip W. Hammock Jr. of Hurt and Tracey G. Hammock of Java; one daughter, Tammy H. Lindsey of Altavista; three brothers, John R. Harris Jr. and Hubert N. Harris, both of Lynchburg, and Charles H. Harris of Kill Devil Hill, N.C.; seven sisters, Mamie H. Hudson of Lynchburg, Lucille H. Bryant of Lynchburg, Sarah H. Little of Lynchburg, Marie Harris of Forest, Judy H. Little of Evington, Flora Susan Harris of Bedford and Patricia H. Little of Burlington, N.C., and four grandchildren.

will follow at Carl O. Moran Memorial Garden in Gretna.

DANVILLE, Va. - Harry Lee Harris, 67, of 2288 Campview Road, died Thursday, July 5, 2001, at Danville Regional Medical Center.
Born Sept. 1, 1933, in Pittsylvania County, he was the son of Waverly and Queen Fuller Harris.
Survivors include two sisters, Lois Mayo and Shirley Jones, both of Danville; three brothers, Melvin Harris of Cascade, Waverly Harris Jr. and Sylvester Harris, both of Danville.

DANVILLE, Va. - James E. Hodge III, 12, of 876 Stoney Mill School Road, died Saturday, July 7, 2001, at Danville Regional Medical Center in Danville.
Born Nov. 10, 1988, in Guilford County, he was the son of James E. Hodge Jr. and Susan Moton Thornton.
Survivors, in addition to his mother of the residence and father of Danville, include stepfather Phillip Thornton of the residence; three sisters, Laquita Moton, Jessica Hodge and Quaressa Thornton; two brothers, Darnell Moton and Dionte Penn, all of the residence; maternal grandmother, Annie Moton of Eden, N.C., and paternal grandparents James Hodge Sr. and Mozelle Thornton of Danville.
The funeral will be held 1 p.m. Wednesday at Robinson Memorial United Holy Church in Eden, N.C. Interment
will follow at Eden Gardens cemetery.

to Helen King, who predeceased him.

BRADENTON, Fla. - Otelia Inez Lewis, 66, of 306 East 58th Avenue, died Wednesday, July 4, 2001, at the Manatee Memorial Hospital in Bradenton.
Born Nov. 25, 1935, she was a daughter of Russell Lewis and Ollie Blaine Lewis.
Survivors include one daughter, Jernita Patterson of Danville, Va.; one sister, Sylvia Thompson of Bronx, N.Y., one brother, Joseph Lewis of Florida and one granddaughter.
A memorial service will be held 12 noon Monday at the Chapel of Fisher and Watkins Funeral Home with Bishop Major Hairston officiating.

Addie Lloyd
NATHALIE, Va. - Addie “Dick” Godfrie Lloyd, 61, of 1174 Lennig Road, died Friday, July 6, 2001, at Halifax Regional Hospital.
Born Jan. 25, 1940, in Halifax County, he was the son of Clarence B. Lloyd Sr. and Elsie Duncan Lloyd.
He was married
to Jean Fallen Lloyd, who survives. He was a member of Childrey Baptist Church where he was a deacon. He was also a Mason with Kerns Lodge 103 and a fireman with Liberty Volunteer Fire Department.
Survivors, in addition to his wife, include two daughters, Amy Clem and Wendy Lloyd, both of Nathalie; one sister, Annie L. Long of Nathalie; three brothers, Charles Linwood Lloyd, Roger Dale Lloyd, both of Nathalie, and Daniel “Danny” Barry Lloyd of Clover and three grandchildren.
He was predeceased, in addition to his parents, by one son, Randy Lloyd and two brothers, W.D. Lloyd and Clarence “Butch” Lloyd.
The funeral service will be held 2 p.m. Monday at Childrey Baptist Church with the Rev. Rodney Barwick officiating. Interment
will follow in the church cemetery with Masonic rites.
