Jessie always enjoyed composing and writing poetry. One of her poems Destination was very special to her family:
Destination
The journey that is not of our planning
And yet the destination is ours.
We don’t know how long we’ll be traveling
In the valley, mountains, or towers,
But we know the traveling grows sweeter
And we rest by the side of the road,
We know that when we are burdened
The Savior will carry our load.
He knows when we are weary,
He sees our every tear,
He promises never to leave us
And he never wants us to fear.
We can know that if tonight he should call
And we could hear him call our name,
We know that would be greater
And all the riches and worldly fame.
He said through the valley and the shadow I will lead you
Oh just the thoughts of the melodious tone,
We can say anytime, “Lord, I am ready,”
“I’m just glad I don’t have to go alone.”
Mrs. Hearp was a longtime member of the Baptist Tabernacle and she and her family appreciated the faithfulness of Pastor Hunley during Jessie’s lengthy illness. Mrs. Hearp was associated with Dan River Mills for many years.
