Debra Kilgore

DANVILLE, Va. - Debra Knowles Kilgore, 37, of 4055 Keswick Drive, died Sunday, July 29, 2001, at the residence.
Born March 15, 1964, in Bern, Switzerland, she was the daughter of Ellis Knowles, who survives, and McElou Phipps Knowles.
She was married Sept. 1, 2000, to Michael Lee Kilgore, who survives. She lived her life in Danville where she was a 1982 graduate of George Washington High School. She worked in the cosmetic department of Belks before a decline in health and was a member of Mount Hermon Baptist Church, the church choir and Tuscarora County Club Ladies Golf Association.
Survivors, in addition to her husband of the residence and father of Danville, include two daughters, Amy Cash and Holley Cash, both of Danville; three stepchildren, Stefan Lee Kilgore and Seth Arron Kilgore, both of Danville, and Sean Patrick Kilgore of Milford, Del., and one brother, Doug Knowles of Chatham.
The memorial service will be held 7:30 p.m. Tuesday at Mount Hermon Baptist Church with the Rev. Don Davidson officiating.
The family will receive friends 6:30-7:30 p.m. Tuesday at Mount Hermon Baptist Church and other times at the residence.
The family suggests in lieu of flowers memorials may be made to Wayles R. Harrison Cancer Society, P.O. Box 2687, Danville, VA 24541.

Marjorie Lacy

SOUTH BOSTON, Va. - Marjorie “Bubbles” Creasy Lacy, 77, of 1808 Wilkerson St., died Thursday, July 26, 2001, at Halifax Regional Hospital.
Born Dec. 21, 1923, in Gretna, she was the daughter of Stover Henry Creasy and Maud C. Creasy.
She was married to Dr. Malcolm B. Lacy Jr., who survives. She was a member of First Presbyterian Church.
Survivors, in addition to her husband of South Boston, include one daughter, Lavalette Lacy Jennings and two grandchildren.
Graveside services will be held at 2 p.m. Sunday at Creasy Family cemetery in Gretna with the Rev. Dr. Russell Lee officiating.
The family will receive friends at the residence.
The family suggests in lieu of flowers memorials be made to the First Presbyterian Church Memorial Fund.
Powell Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Melvin Lacey (Col)

DRY FORK, Va. - Melvin Geoffrey Lacey (Col), 64, of 13081 Franklin Turnpike, died July 24, 2001, at the residence after 10 years of declining health.
Born Oct. 13, 1936, in Pittsylvania County, he was a son of W. Geoffrey Lacey and Doris Winn Lacey.
He was married Oct. 22, 1955, to Frances Holley Lacey, who survives. He lived all of his life in the Whitmell Community of Pittsylvania County and was a graduate of the former Whitmell Farm-Life School and the Mendenhall School of Auctioneering in High Point, N.C. He worked in Pittsylvania County and the surrounding area in real estate sales and conducting auction sales. He was a member of Swansonville United Methodist Church.
Survivors, in addition to his wife of the residence, include two daughters, Deborah L. Carson and Wanda Lacey and one grandchild.
The funeral will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday at Wrenn-Yeatts North Main Chapel with the Rev. Linwood Daniel and the Rev. Randy Williams officiating. Interment icon will follow at Highland Burial Park.
The family will receive friends at the residence.
The family suggests in lieu of flowers memorials be made to Tunstall Fire and Rescue, P.O. Box 575, Danville, Va. 24543.

Mildred Lockett

DANVILLE, Va. - Mildred Sloan Hoskins Lockett, 78, of 318 Kemper Road, died Saturday, July 28, 2001, at the residence after several years of declining health.
Born Feb. 23, 1923, in Franklin County, she was the daughter of Walter Sloan and Martha Ellen Willis Sloan.
She was married to Phillip Lockett Jr., who predeceased her April 12, 1994. SHe lived most of her life in Danville where she worked for Dan River Inc. before her retirement. She was a member of the Druid Hills congregation of Jehovah’s Witnesses.
Survivors include two daughters, Karen Hoskins Albert and Delores Hoskins Curry, both of Danville; one stepdaughter, Sarah Lockett Atherton of Marysville, Calif.; one stepson, David Lockett of Virginia Beach; two grandsons and three stepgrandchildren.
She was predeceased, in addition to her parents and husband, by one brother, Jim Ed Sloan and two sisters, Belva Adkins and Alma Sloan.
The funeral will be held 4 p.m. Monday at Swicegood Funeral Home Chapel. Interment icon will follow at Mountain View cemetery.
The family will receive friends 7-8:30 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home and other times at the residence.
Swicegood Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Dorothy Moore

DANVILLE, Va. - Dorothy Lee Moore, 64, of 1320 North Main St., died Wednesday, July 25, 2001, at Danville Regional Medical Center.
Born Aug. 4, 1936, in Pittsylvania County, she was the daughter of Ernest Howard Day and Rebecca Hunt Day.
She was married to Buddy Ray Moore. She worked as a Certified Nursing Assistant until her retirement.
Survivors include one daughter, Carla A. Hairston of Danville; four sisters, Ella Mae Day Hairston of Brooklyn, N.Y., Mary Day of the residence, Janie Williams of Danville and Margie Via of Martinsville and two brothers, Robert Day and Ernest Day, both of Dry Fork.
The funeral will be held 1 p.m. Monday at Greater United Apostolic Church of God, 904 North Main St., with Bishop John Morton officiating. Interment icon will follow at Highland Burial Park.
The family will receive friends at the residence.

Sharonlyn Patterson

DANVILLE, Va. - Sharonlyn Antoinette Patterson, 43, of 111 Warren St., died Saturday, July 21, 2001, at the residence.
Born Sept. 4, 1957, in Danville, she was a daughter of Edna Pearl Graves Patterson, who survives, and James Patterson.
She was an employee of Southern Processors for many years.
Survivors, in addition to her mother of Danville, include five sisters, Ollie Pearl Tate, Patsy Patterson, Doris Jeffries, Loretta Patterson and Deborah Patterson, all of Danville and four brothers, Joe Lewis Patterson, Gerald Patterson, Bernard Patterson and Ronnie Patterson, all of Danville.
The funeral will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday at Shiloh Baptist Church on Betts Street with the Rev. Cecil Bridgeforth officiating. Interment icon will follow at Highland Burial Park cemetery.
The family will receive friends at the residence.

Glenna Payne

HALIFAX, Va. - Glenna Viola Compton Payne, 82, of 1133 Mountain Road, died Thursday, July 26, 2001, at Duke Medical Center.
Born Sept. 19, 1918, in Halifax County, she was a daughter of Elijah Jackson Compton and Eva Susan Chandler Compton.
She was married to Elmo Willard Payne, who survives, and she was a member of Dan River Baptist Church.
Survivors, in addition to her husband, include two brothers, Raymond Compton of South Boston and Samuel Compton of Halifax and two sisters, Delma Anderson of Clover and Lola C. Wilburn of Ashville, N.C.
The funeral will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday at Dan River Baptist Church with the Rev. Louis Wall and the Rev. Dr. Melvin Bradshaw officiating. Interment icon will follow at Halifax Memorial Gardens.
The family received friends from 7-8:30 p.m. Friday at Powell Funeral Home.
The family suggests memorials be made to the Dan River Baptist Church Debt Retirement Fund.

Suzanne Perkins

DANVILLE, Va. - Suzanne Plott Cody Perkins, 62, of 895 Glendale Ave., died July 25, 2001, at the residence.
Born Aug. 25, 1938, in Wilson, N.C., she was the daughter of George Willard Plott and Hellen Guerrant Plott.
She lived her entire life in the Danville area, where she managed a convenience store before a decline in health. She was a member of Christian Fellowship Church of God.
Survivors include one son, Kit Wyatt Cody Sr. of Danville; two brothers, George Willard “Johnny” Plott Jr. and Frank Lauder Plott, both of Danville; six grandchildren; five great-grandchildren and three step great-grandchildren.
She was predeceased, in addition to her parents, by one daughter, Mary P. Barnes.
The graveside service will be held at 11 a.m. Friday at Highland Burial Park with the Rev. Jeff Hopkins and George Willard “Johnny“ Plott officiating. A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday at Central Fellowship Church of God.
The family will receive friends at the residence.
The family suggests that memorial donations be made to the Danville Cancer Association, 1225 W. Main St., Danville, Va. 24541 or a charity of choice.

Yvonnia Perkins

DANVILLE, Va. - Yvonnia Perkins, 61, of 1388 Green Farm Road, died Wednesday, July 25, 2001, at Danville Regional Medical Center.
Born Sept. 23, 1939 in Pittsylvania County, she was a daughter of Alfred and Jessie Rodgers King, who survive. She was married to Will Arthur Perkins, who survives.
Survivors, in addition to her parents and husband, include one daughter, Ophelia Perkins; two sons, John F. Perkins and Jamar Perkins; one sister, Lillie Venable; and one brother, Jim C. King, all of Danville.
The funeral will be held at 1 p.m. Sunday at Kentuck Baptist Missionary Church with the Rev. Jesse Fitz officiating. Interment icon will follow at Highland Burial Park.
The family will receive friends at the residence.

Connie S. Pillow

MOSSY HEAD, Fla. - Connie Lee Austin Swain Pillow, 94, of Mossy Head, Florida died July 26, 2001, peacefully at her home in Mossy Head, Florida after declining health since November of 1997.
Born July 6, 1907, she was the daughter of Willoghby Austin (deceased) and Cannie Lee Austin (deceased), and the foster daughter of Elwyn F. Swain (deceased) and Martha Franklin (deceased).
She was married to Hudnall Vaughn Pillow who died 3-11-94. Mrs. Pillow lived her life in the Danville area until May of 1994, at which time she resided in Mossy Head Florida. Prior to her retirement, Mrs. Pillow was a secretary with Thalhimers. Mrs. Pillow was a member of Shelton Memorial Presbyterian Church.
Survivors include Daughter and Son In Law: Martha L. Schipper and George E. Schipper of Mossy Head Florida; Half Sister: Lovey A. Landrum of Las Vegas, Nevada; Granddaughter: Kristin L. Williamson of Selma, N.C.; Grandson: John H. Plott of New Orleans, LA.; Great Granddaughter: Marie LaBelle Plott of New Orleans, LA. Mrs. Pillow is also survived by children and grandchildren of son-in-law George E. Schipper.
She was predeceased by one Brother: Clyde Austin.
The graveside service will be held Tuesday, July 31, 2001 at 2:00 PM at Highland Burial Park with the Reverend Paul Johnson officiating. Interment icon will follow at Highland Burial Park.
