Virginia, U.S., Marriage Records, 1936-2014

Helen Keen

DANVILLE, Va. - Helen Watkins Keen, 72, of 25 Keen Drive, died Sunday, Aug. 12, 2001, at Riverside Health and Rehabilitation Center in Danville.
Born in Pittsylvania County, she was married for 52 years to Wash Keen, who survives. She was a member of Moral Hill Baptist Church and a retired employee of American Furniture Factory. She was a member of the senior choir, missionary circle and the mother’s board at her church, where she was also a Sunday school teacher and director of the Sunbeam Choir.
Survivors, in addition to her husband, include five sons, Vernon Keen of Wilmington, N.C., Maynard Keen of Greensboro, N.C., Rexford Keen of Martinsville and William Keen and Danny Keen, both of Danville; three brothers, William Watkins of Axton and Windle Watkins and Virgil Watkins, both of Danville; four sisters, Lorene Fulton, Florence Amos and Glodean Carter, all of Axton and Dorothy Martin of Ridgeway; 11 grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.
The funeral will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday at Moral Hill Baptist Church in Martinsville. Interment icon will follow at Keen Family cemetery in Axton.
The family will receive friends from 7-8 p.m. Wednesday at Moral Hill Baptist Church.
Perry-Spencer Funeral Home in Eden, N.C., is in charge of arrangements.

Frank King

BLAIRS, Va. - Frank D. King, 76, of 525 East Witt Road, died Monday, Aug. 13, 2001, at Danville Regional Medical Center.
Born Aug. 1, 1925, in Pittsylvania County, he was the son of George E. and Aggie Hall King.
He was married to Elsie King, who survives. He was the owner of Frank King and Sons Trucking Company.
Survivors, in addition to his wife of the residence, include two sons, James Clark of Greensboro, N.C. and Avery King of Blairs; three daughters, Dale Echols of Danville, Linda Echols and Cynthia Bennett, both of Blairs and one brother, Lawrence King of Atlanta.
The funeral will be held 11 a.m. Friday at Cherrystone Baptist Church in Chatham with the Rev. Floyd Jones officating. Interment icon will follow at Highland Burial Park cemetery.
The family will recieve friends at the residence.
Fisher and Watkins Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Louise Lewis

GAINESVILLE, Fla. -Louise Strange Lewis, 98, formerly of 684 Franklin St., Danville, died Tuesday, Aug. 14, 2001, at Gainesville Health and Rehabilitation Center in Gainesville.
Born Aug. 13, 1903, in News Ferry, Va., she was the daughter of Rufus Owen Strange and Nannie Burgess Strange.
She was married to Lonnie Malcom Lewis, who predeceased her June 15, 1978. She attended Highlands Presbyterian Church in Gainesville and was a member of College Park Baptist Church, formerly Lee Street Baptist Church, when she lived in Danville. She was a retired sales clerk at Belk Leggetts in Danville.
Survivors include one daughter, Jean L. McDowell of Gainesville, one son, L. Langston Lewis of Danville, Va., one sister, Florine Miller of Vernon Hill, Va.; six grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.
The graveside service will be held 11:30 a.m. at Highland Burial Park with Dr. Joey Faucette officiating.
The family will receive friends 10-11 a.m. Friday at Townes Funeral Home and other times at the residence of Langston Lewis, 150 Marshall Terrace.
Townes Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Sallie Logan

RINGGOLD, Va. - Sallie P. Logan, 84, of 217 Witcher Road, died Monday, Aug. 13, 2001, at Piney Forest Health Center.
Born March 7, 1917, in Meadsville, Va., she was a daughter of Elijah Palmer and Emily Payne Palmer.
She was married to Willie Chester Logan, who predeceased her. She was a laborer for P. Lorrilard Tobacco Factory, was a member of Elkhorn Baptist Church and was active in Loyal Baptist Church.
Survivors include three sons, Charles Logan and David Logan, both of Danville and Howard Logan of Philadelphia and two sisters, Elizabeth Chaney and Catherine Loftin, both of Baltimore.
The funeral will be held at 11 a.m. Friday at Loyal Baptist Church with the Rev. Lovelle Maxwell officiating. Interment icon will follow at Danville Memorial Gardens.
The viewing will be held from 4-8 p.m. Thursday at Cunningham and Hughes Funeral Home.
The family will receive friends at the residence.
Cunningham and Hughes Funeral Directors is in charge of arrangements.

Ollie Mabe

DANVILLE, Va. - Ollie Lee Darnell Mabe, 90, of 1032 Twin Arch Drive, died Wednesday, Aug. 15, 2001, at Piney Forest Health Care Center after four years of declining health.
Born Nov. 4, 1910, in Danville, she was the daughter of Lonnie E. Darnell and Eunice Alley Darnell.
She was married to Robert L. Mabe, who predeceased her Jan. 4, 1997. She was a member of the Church of God of Prophecy on Seminole Drive, shere she served as Church Treasurer and as Sunday School teacher. She lived her entire life in Danville and was retired from Dan River Mills Inc., where she worked in the inspection room.
Survivors include two sons, Bobby L. Mabe of Danville and Milton D. Mabe of Rocky Mount; one sister, Ruth McGregor of Danville; two granddaughters; two great-granddaughters; and one great-great-grandson.
She was predeceased, in addition to her husband and parents, by two brothers, Harry Darnell and William T. Darnell and two sisters, Flossie Cook and Louise Darnell.
The funeral will be held 2 p.m. Saturday at the Church of God of Prophecy with the Rev. Jack Robertson and the Rev. Albert Moser officiating. Interment icon will follow at Highland Burial Park.
The family will receive friends 7-8:30 p.m. Friday at Wrenn-Yeatts North Main Chapel and other times at the residence.
Wrenn-Yeatts Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Helen Masloff

SYKESVILLE, Md. - Helen Marie Masloff, 75, died Tuesday, Aug. 14, 2001, at Fairhaven Health Center in Sykesville.
Born June 12, 1926, in Virginia, she was a daughter of John L. and Ethel Wolfe Caywood.
She was married to Herbert S. Masloff Sr., who survives. She was a retired medical technician for N.I.H. She lived in Danville until moving to Fairhaven retirement community four years ago.
Survivors, in addition to her husband of Fairhaven, include one son, Herbert S. Masloff Jr. of Havertown, Pa.; one sister, Louise Robbins of Marion; and three grandchildren.
The memorial service will be held at 1:30 p.m. Friday at Fairhaven Chapel, 7200 Third Ave. in Sykesville with the Rev. and Sarah Lewis and the Rev. Fielder Israel officiating. Interment icon will be private.
Haight Funeral Home and Chapel in Sykesville is in charge of arrangements.

Bettie Dodson May

NEW ORLEANS - Bettie Jane Dodson May of New Orleans, Louisiana, died unexpectedly on Saturday, August 11, 2001.
Born September 22, 1937, in Danville, Virginia, she was the daughter of the late Sterling Dodson of Roanoke and Virginia Riddle Edmunds of Danville, and was the granddaughter of the late Benjamin and Ida Chaney Dodson and Mr. & Mrs. John Riddle.
Bettie was a graduate of Chatham High School and attended Radford University. She had made her home in New Orleans for 45 years and was of the Baptist faith.
She is survived by her husband, George E. May, Jr., of the residence; three sons, George E. “Buddy” May, III, John Sterling May, and Kirk Steven May all of New Orleans and one daughter, Virginia Lynn “Ginger” M. Nahas of Houston, Texas, and three grandchildren. She is also survived by aunts, Dorothy R. Durham and Mattie D. Wilson both of Danville, Julia Collie of Roanoke and a number of cousins.
In addition to her parents and grandparents, she was predeceased by her stepfather, John H. Edmunds and aunts, Nell R. Lynch, Barbara R. Hughes and Johnie Ann R. Farmer.
Bettie had a great interest in genealogy. She was the president of the United Daughters of the Confederacy, Louisiana Division, Jefferson Davis Chapter 2191, Treasurer of the Daughters of the American Revolution and a member of the National Society of Colonial Dames, XVII Century.
A memorial service was held at Tharp-Sontheimer-Tharp Funeral Home on Tuesday, August 14, 2001.

Earl C. McDaniel

CASCADE, Va. - Earl C. McDaniel, age 74, of 445 Cascade Road, Cascade, died early Saturday morning, Aug. 11, 2001, at Danville Regional Medical Center after six months of declining health and a three week stay at the hospital.
Mr. McDaniel was born in the West Fork community of Pittsylvania County on Jan. 10, 1927, a son of the late Edward McDaniel and Bessie Earles McDaniel.
He was married to Lucille Burnett McDaniel who survives.
Mr. McDaniel was a veteran of the U.S. Army serving in Japan during World War II.
Mr. McDaniel made his home in the West Fork community of Pittsylvania County all of his life where he was a farmer. He also worked for Dan River, Inc., before going to work at Goodyear Tire & Rubber Company where he worked for 12 years. He was a member of First Baptist Church in Reidsville, North Carolina.
Survivors include, in addition to his wife of the residence one son: Kris McDaniel & daughter-in-law Bonnie McDaniel of Reidsville, North Carolina, and one step son: Kenneth Parrish of Providence, North Carolina, and two step daughters; Jean P. Hudson of Monroe, North Carolina, and Gayle Barker of Chester, and one brother: Lawrence “Trudy” McDaniel of Cascade, and two grandchildren: Sarah McDaniel and Rachel McDaniel, and six step grandchildren also survive, & 6 step great grandchildren.
Funeral services will be conducted at 11:00 A.M. Tuesday at Swicegood Funeral Home Chapel by Dr. David Moore with interment to follow at Danville Memorial Gardens.
The family will receive friends at the funral home on Monday evening from 7:00 - 8:30 P.M., and at the residence at West Fork at other times.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Danville Life Saving Crew, 202 Christopher Lane, Danville, VA 24541 or to the First Baptist Church of Reidsville, 409 South Main St., Reidsville, NC 27320.

Betty Moss

DANVILLE, Va. - Betty “Liz” Scearce Moss, age 69, of 3388 Vandola Road, died early Friday morning August 10, 2001 at Danville Regional Medical Center after ten years of declining health.
Mrs. Moss was born in Danville on January 19, 1932, a daughter of the late Ray W. Scearce and Ocie Plaster Scearce.
She was married to James Howard Moss who survives.
Mrs. Moss had spent most of her life in the Vandola Road community of Pittsylvania County except for four years she spent in Florida. She was a homemaker and worked for Dan River, Inc., and she was a member of Schoolfield Pentecostal Holiness Church. She was a graduate of Schoolfield High School.
Surivors in addition to her husband of the residence include one daughter: Debbie Moss Hyler & son-in-law Ricky Hyler of Danville, and one brother: Clyde G. Scearce of Danville, Granddaughters: Beth Hyler, Brooke Hyler and Britney Hyler & a number of Nieces & Nephews.
Funeral services will be conducted at 2:00 P.M. Monday at Swicegood Funeral Home Chapel by the Rev. Michael Pressley, the Rev. Myron Bruce, Mr. Jody Pollard & Mr. Clyde Scearce. Interment icon will follow at Schoolfield cemetery. The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Sunday evening from 7:00 - 8:30 P.M., and at the residence at other times.

Nellie Murray

DANVILLE, Va. - Nellie Buckner Murray, 81, of 515 Crestview Drive, died Monday, Aug. 13, 2001, at the residence after several years of declining health.
Born Aug. 24, 1919, she was the daughter of Charlie Meeks Buckner and Mary Williamson Buckner.
She was married Nov. 3, 1947, to William Owen Murray, who survives. She had lived all of her life in Halifax and Pittsylvania Counties and Danville, where she was a homemaker. She was the secretary for Murrays Signs and was a member of United Methodist Church in the Delia Community of Halifax County. She had attended Lakewood Evangelical Methodist Church for several years.
Survivors, in addition to her husband of the residence, include one son, Jerry Bryant Murray of Danville; one sister, Evelyn B. Wilkie of Hot Springs, Ark. and one grandchild.
She was predeceased, in addition to her parents, by one brother, James Buckner.
The funeral will be held 11 a.m. Wednesday at Calvary United Methodist Church with the Rev. David Lefon and the Rev. Jimmy Burks officiating. Interment icon will follow at Calvary United Methodist Church cemetery on State Route 119 in Halifax County.
The family will receive friends 7-8:30 p.m. Tuesday at Wrenn-Yeatts North Main Chapel and other times at the residence.
Wrenn-Yeatts Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
