Keith Winstead
DANVILLE, Va. - Keith Lea Winstead, 88, of 1625 Piney Forest Road died Wednesday, Aug. 15, 2001, at Piney Forest Health Care Center, where he had been a resident for the last two years.
Born May 21, 1913, in the Leasburg area of Person County, N.C., he was a son of Nash Winstead and Elizabeth Featherston Winstead.
He was married
Sept. 3, 1938, to Thelma Miles Winstead, who survives. He lived his early life in Leasburg before moving to Danville. He worked at Dan River Mills for 17 years and at the time of his retirement he was the owner/operator of the Winstead’s General Store located on the Berry Hill Road. He was a member of the Grace Design United Methodist Church where he had been a former board member, a choir member and a member of the Christians Fellowship Sunday school class. He was also a former member of the Danville Elks Lodge and was active with Danville Little League for many years.
Survivors, in addition to his wife of the residence, include a son, Richard L. Winstead of Fort Smith, Ark.; a daughter, Beth Winstead Gentry of Danville; a brother, Dr. N.N. Winstead of Raleigh, N.C.; three sisters, Jean Davis of Leasburg, N.C., Annie Glover of Raleigh, N.C. and Lizzie Dawson of Dunn, N.C.; five grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.
The funeral will be held 11 a.m. Saturday at Wrenn-Yeatts Westover Chapel with the Rev. Kenneth Barnes and Carolyn Winstead officiating. Interment
will follow at Danville Memorial Gardens.
The family will receive friends 7-8:30 p.m. Friday at the Wrenn-Yeatts Westover Chapel and other times at the residence of the daughter, 132 Northridge Drive, Mount Hermon community.

David Wright
DANVILLE, Va. - David Wyatt Wright, 41, of 62 Glen Oak Drive, died Monday, Aug. 13, 2001, at Medical College of Virginia in Richmond after one day in the hospital.
Born March 20, 1960, in Danville, he was the son of Douglas Lee Wright Sr. and Wyline Wright, who survive.
He had lived in Danville most of his life and was a roofing contractor. He was a member of Forest Lawn Baptist Church.
Survivors, in addition to his parents of Danville, include one son, David Wayne Wright of Blairs; one sister, Elizabeth W. Higgs of Alton; one brother, Douglas Lee Wright Jr. of Scotts Plains, N.J. and maternal grandmother, Mrs. Wyatt Willis of Danville.
The graveside service will be held 11 a.m. Wednesday at Schoolfield cemetery with the Rev. Lary Pittman officiating.
The family will receive friends at 109 Glen Oak Drive.

Virginia Abbott
HALIFAX, Va. - Virginia Odell Tune Abbott, 80, of 3070 Howard P. Anderson Highway, died Aug. 23, 2001, at Danville Regional Medical Center.
Born June 22, 1921, in Halifax County, she was the daughter of George Edward Tune Sr. and Pattie Rebecca Blanks Tune.
She was a member of Winns Creek Baptist Church where she was a member of the choir and a Sunday School teacher. She was a former member of the A.B.W.A. and Halifax Women’s Club. She was one of the founders of Abbott Farm Suppliers.
Survivors include two daughters, Rebecca A. Holt of Danville and Sara A. Bradshaw of Richmond; one son, William A. “Bill” Abbott of Halifax; one sisters, Jean Tune Hall of Powhatan and seven grandchildren.
The funeral will be held 2 p.m. Saturday at Winns Creek Baptist Church with the Rev. Dr. Melvin Bradshaw and the Rev. Richard Welch officiating. Interment
will follow at the church cemetery.
The family will receive friends 7-8:30 p.m. Friday at Powell Funeral Home and other times at the residence.

Willie Adams
CHATHAM, Va. - Willie Ezell Adams, 67, died Tuesday, Aug. 21, 2001, at the residence.
Born Nov. 10, 1933, in Caswell County, he was the son of Cora Royster Adams, who survives, and Johnnie Nathaniel Adams.
He was a native of Caswell County and attended the county’s public schools.
Survivors, in addition to his mother of Milton, N.C., include four daughters, Robin Cheeley of Greensboro, N.C., Glady Yvonne Adams of Raleigh, N.C., Core Ester Strickland of Mebane, N.C. and Lotta Collette Adams of Burlington, N.C.; one son, Tyrone Adams of Japan; five grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.
The funeral will be held at 2 p.m. Sunday at Mt. Olive Baptist Church in Semora, N.C. with the Rev. Preston Medley officiating. Interment
will follow at the church cemetery.

Annie Amos
CHATHAM, Va. - Annie Slayton Amos age 91 of 713 Spruse Rd. Chatham, Virginia died August 24, 2001 at her residence. Mrs. Amos was born December 19, 1909 in Pittsylvania County. She was the daughter of the late John Slayton and Kate Tate Slayton. She was predeceased by her husband Elijah Page Amos. She is survived by two sons, Donald Amos and Dr. John W. Amos and his wife Peggy, of Chatham; one granddaughter, Anne Amos Cravens of Charlottesville. She was a member of Laurel Grove Baptist Church. Mrs. Amos taught for many years in Pittsylvania and Patrick County Schools.
Funeral Services will be conducted Monday, August 27, 2001 at 2 P.M. at the Museville Christian Church by Randle Johnson and J.D. Hunt, III. Interment

Jeter Bigelow
WHITE PLAINS, N.Y. - Jeter Hunter Bigelow, 64, died Sunday, Aug. 19, 2001, at White Plains Medical Center.
Born Sept. 12, 1936, in Caswell County, N.C., he was a son of Geter Hunter Bigelow Sr. and Fanny Alice Jeffers Bigelow.
He was married
to Fleetwood Ann Clark, who survives. He was educated in Caswell County Public Schools and joined Hamer Baptist Church at an early age. He joined the U.S. Army, where he served from 1955 to 1958 and in the reserves until 1963, when he received an honorable discharge. He was a member of V.F.W. Post No. 5463. He was a chef and was employed by Howard Johnson’s, A.R.A. and Saga Corp. He attended Mercy College while employed by Saga Corp. and was later employed by Marriott until his retirement in 1992.
Survivors, in addition to his wife, include two daughters, Florence Jeanette Lewis of Philadelphia and Jacqueline Denise Thomas of White Plains; seven grandchildren; two sisters, Maude Thaxton of Augusta, Ga. and Ann Bryant of Columbia, Md.; and one brother, Luchan Bigelow of Pleasantville, N.J.
The funeral will be held at 1 p.m. Friday at High Rock Baptist Church in Blanche, N.C. with the Rev. Cephus Lea officiating. Interment

DANVILLE, Va. - Evangelist Ruth Elizabeth Clements, 65, of 531 First St., died Saturday, Aug. 18, 2001, at the residence.
Born Feb. 20, 1936, in Halifax County, she was the daughter of the late James Sydnor and Lily Logan Sydnor.
She was married
to Gerald L. Clements, who survives. She was the assistant pastor of the Greater New Jerusalem Apostolic Church of Jesus Christ.
Survivors, in addition to her husband of the residence, include two daughters, Renee McClary and Jocelyn Berger, both of Danville; one sister, Josephine Williams of Philadelphia, Pa. and two grandchildren.

NOBLESVILLE, Ind. -Pauline Frances Craig, 77, of 123 Primrose Path, died Thursday, Aug. 23, 2001, at the residence of her daughter, 169 Holbrook Ave. in Danville.
Born Dec. 18, 1923, in Bowling Green, Ky., she was a daughter of Benjamin Still and Nancy Guddis Still.
She was married
to Edward Arnold Craig, who predeceased her and was a homemaker.
Survivors include two sons, Richard Arnold Craig of Orlando, Fla. and Mark Randal Craig of Indiana; two daughters, Rebecca Craig Vance of Danville and Ruth Craig Hopkins of Indiana; 11 grandchildren; and 10 great-grandchildren.
The funeral and interment will be held in Indiana.

DANVILLE, Va. -Christopher Lee Cramer, five weeks old, of 112 Parkway Drive, died suddenly Aug. 25, 2001, at Danville Regional Medical Center after one day in the hospital.
Born July 16, 2001, in Danville, he was the son of Coleman Lee Hale and Teri Lee Cramer, who survive.
Survivors, in addition to his mother of the residence and father of Danville, include maternal grandparents Richard and Judy Cramer of Danville.

DANVILLE, Va. - Doris Rothrock Edmonds, 76, of 313 Clover Lane, died Monday, Aug. 20, 2001, at the residence.
Born in Lexington, N.C., she was the daughter of Oscar A. and Elsie Greenwald Rothrock.
She was married
to Clarence “Ed” Edmonds, who survives. She grew up in Reidsville, N.C. and lived in Danville since 1972. She was a member of the First Presbyterian Church of Danville. She was active in the local bridge club, where she was a Life Master.
Survivors, in addition to her husband of the residence, include one son, Wayne Edmonds of Anchorage, Alaska; two daughters, Jane Edmonds of Danville and Beverly E. Garside of Baltimore; and seven grandchildren.
She was predeceased, in addition to her parents, by one brother, C.E. “Brick” Rothrock.
The memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday at Townes Funeral Home Chapel in Danville. The graveside service will be held at 3 p.m. Thursday at Reidlawn cemetery in Reidsville.

NATHALIE, Va. - Helen Lewis Fisher, 84, of 1093 Clinton Road, died Aug. 21, 2001, at the residence.
Born Sept. 7, 1916, in Halifax County, she was a daughter of Arthur Lee Lewis and Mary Jennings Lewis.
She was married
to Lennie Coleman “Pete” Fisher Sr., who survives. She was a member of the First Baptist Church of Republican Grove.
Survivors, in addition to her husband of Nathalie, include two sons, L.C. Fisher Jr. and Sherman Fisher, both of Nathalie; one daughter, Patricia F. Thomas of Halifax; one brother, Bill Lewis of Richmond; one sister, Irene Garrett of Nelson; six grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.
She was predeceased, in addition to her parents, by one sister, Eva Younger and three brothers, Johnnie Lewis, Cabell Lewis and James M. “Shorty” Lewis.
