Edith Williams
DANVILLE, Va. - Edith Marie Bass Williams, 82, formerly of Hillcrest Avenue, died Monday, Sept. 3, 2001, at Riverside Health Care Center after several years of declining health and ten years at Riverside.
Born April 6, 1919, in Halifax County, she was the daughter of Nathan D. Bass and Mae Bass Bass.
She was married
to Willie Joseph Williams, who predeceased her Sept. 2, 1974. She lived all of her life in Halifax County and Danville and was a member of Glenwood Memorial Baptist Church.
She was the last immediate survivor of her family.
The graveside service will be held 11 a.m. Wednesday at Highland Burial Park with the Rev. Tom Allgood officiating.

Ronald Williamson
DANVILLE, Va. - Ronald Wayne Williamson, 46, of 1388 Twin Oakes Lane, died Friday, Aug. 31, 2001, at Danville Regional Medical Center.
Born Aug. 28, 1955, in Pittsylvania County, he was a son of Nettie Carter Williamson, who survives, and Norman Williamson.
He was a member of Sunny Level Baptist Church and worked for the Pepsi-Cola Plant and Danville Regional Medical Center.
Survivors, in addition to his mother of Danville, include four brothers, Malachi Williamson, Donald Williamson, Carl M. Williamson and Gardener Carter, all of Danville and three sisters, Raynell Murphy, Idean Watkins and Nettie P. Watkins, all of Danville.
The funeral will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday at Sunny Level Baptist Church with the Rev. Terry Ferguson officiating. Interment
will follow at Highland Burial Park.
The family will receive friends at 8 p.m. Friday at the funeral home and other times at the residence.

Wade Adams
KEELING, Va. - Wade Adams, 88, of 18828 Old Richmond Road, died Friday, September 7, 2001, at Danville Regional Medical Center after four years of declining health and three weeks in the hospital.
Born July 31, 1913, in Pittsylvania County, VA, he was a son of Charlie Henry Adams (deceased) and Rosa Slayton Adams (deceased).
He was married
to Ella Terry Adams, who predeceased him May 10, 1993. He was a member of Mt. Tabor Baptist Church. He was a member of the Redmen Tribe #124 for over fifty years. He lived his entire life in Pittsylvania County. He was retired from the State Highway Department.
Survivors include daughter Betty A. Yates of Danville, VA; son-in-law Bill Yates of Danville, VA; son Billy W. Adams of Danville, VA; brother Jimmy Adams of Danville, VA; sisters Jeannie A. Waldron of Danville, VA, Martha A. Hoskins of Danville, VA, Annie A. Landrum of Blairs, VA, Ruth A. Slate of South Boston, VA and sister-in-lawGladys Adams of Gretna, VA.
The funeral will be held Sunday, Sept. 9th at 2:00 P.M. at Wrenn-Yeatts North Main Chapel with the Reverend Herman C. Absher officiating. Interment
will follow at Highland Burial Park.
The family received friends Saturday from 7:30-8:30 P.M. at Wrenn-Yeatts North Main Chapel and other times at the residence of his daughter, Betty A. Yates, 105 Greencroft Place, Danville, VA.
Esther Garrett
MARTINSVILLE, Va. - Esther Slaydon Garrett, 84, of 1433 Stillmeadow Road, died Friday, Sept. 7, 2001, at Memorial Hospital.
Born Aug. 8, 1917, in Henry County, she was a daughter of James Edward Slaydon and Minnie Gregory Slaydon.
She was married
to Silas Wesley Garrett, who predeceased her. She was a member of County Line Christian Church.
Survivors include two sons, Walter Garrett of Woodruff, S.C. and James E. Garrett of Axton; one daughter, Mary G. Lambert of Axton; two sisters, Irene S. Compton of Martinsville and Marie Smith of St. Joseph, Mo.; nine grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.
The funeral will be held at 2 p.m. Monday at County Line Christian Church with Minister Dean Ashby and J.D. Hunt officiating. Interment
will follow at Garrett Family cemetery in Pittsylvania County.

DANVILLE, Va. - Delores Sanford Hairston, of 128 Fairlawn Drive, died Wednesday, Sept. 5, 2001, at Danville Regional Medical Center.
She was married
to Charles E. Hairston Sr., who survives. She was retired from Danville Public Schools and was affiliated with Bibleway Church and Delta Sigma Theta Sorority Inc.
Survivors, in addition to her husband, include one son, Charles E. Hairston II of the residence and one brother, Ernest Sanford of Hyattsville, Md.
The funeral will be held at 3 p.m. Monday at Bibleway Church. Interment
will follow at Danville Memorial Gardens.
The viewing will be held from 4-8 p.m. Sunday at Cunningham and Hughes Funeral Home.

Robert ‘Bob’ Jones Jr.
RICHMOND, Va. - Robert J. “Bob” Jones Jr., 49, died suddenly Thursday, Sept. 6, 2001.
Survivors include his wife, Lynn Minor-Jones; children, Lindsey, Robbie and Heather; and father, Robert Jones of Danville.
Funeral services and interment will be private.

VIRGINIA BEACH, Va. -Jacqueline Labiak, 58, died September 7, 2001 in a local hospital.
Ms. Labiak is survived by her two brothers, Chuck Labiak of Virginia Beach, VA and Joseph A. Labiak of High Point, NC; nephews, Scott, Jason, David and Joey Labiak and their families.

DRY FORK, Va. - Elsie Motley Lail, 78, of 1020 Cross Stitch Road, died Friday morning, Sept. 7, 2001, at the residence after two years of declining health.
Born Aug. 29, 1923, in Pittsylvania County, she was a daughter of Frank S. Motley and Clencie Shelton Motley.
She was married
to Ed H. Lail, who survives. She lived most of her life in Danville and the Tunstall community, where she was a homemaker and of the Baptist faith.
Survivors, in addition to her husband of the residence, include one daughter, Susan Lail of the residence; one brother, Ronald Motley of Eden, N.C.; and one sister, Doris Stephens of Dry Fork.
The funeral will be held at 4 p.m. Sunday at Swicegood Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Michael Motley and the Rev. Johnny Jones officiating. Interment
will follow at Highland Burial Park.

Wilbur ‘Smitty’ Lewis III
DANVILLE, Va. - Wilbur Smith “Smitty” Lewis III, 45, of 781 Glendale Ave., died Friday, Sept. 7, 2001, at Moses Cone Memorial Hospital in Greensboro, N.C.
Born Oct. 6, 1955, he was a son of Wilbur Smith Lewis Jr. and Gloria Fisher Lewis, who survives.
He was married
to Donna Lewallen Lewis, who survives. Prior to his disability, he was employed with Piedmont Cash Register Company in Danville. He was a member of the Danville Seventh Day Adventist Church and a patient of Greensboro Dialysis Center.
Survivors, in addition to his wife and mother, include two daughters, Ivy Marie Lewis and Kayla Rae Lewis, both of the residence; one sister, Melissa Thurman; one brother, Stephen Lewis; and paternal grandmother Louise Evans Lewis, all of Danville.
He was predeceased, in addition to his father, by one sister, Melody Johnson.
The memorial service will be held at a later date.
The family will be at the residence of Stephen Lewis, 153 Pineview Drive in Danville.

Elsie Adams
GRETNA, Va. - Elsie Rowland Adams, 77, of 24088 U.S. Highway 29, died Thursday, Sept. 20, 2001, at Gretna Health Care Center.
Born April 1, 1924, in Pittsylvania County, she was the daughter of Lester Rowland and Minnie Compton Rowland.
She was first married
to J.B. Hershman, who predeceased her, and later married
W. Talmage Adams, who survives. She was a retired clerk with Gretna Drug Company and was a member of Zion United Methodist Church.
Survivors, in addition to her husband of the residence, include one son, Edd Hershman of Ruther Glenn; one daughter, Shirley Wright of Gretna; three sisters, Bulah Crider of Java, Ollie Meadows of Chatham and Pauline Worley of Kernersville, N.C.; two brothers, Calvin Rowland of Rocky Mount, N.C. and Bill Rowland of Gretna; five grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren.
The funeral will be held 2 p.m. Saturday at Zion United Methodist Church with the Rev. Harold Thornton and Ramsey Taylor officiating. Interment
will follow at the church cemetery.

Samuel Amos
DANVILLE, Va. - Mr. Samuel Adron Amos, a long time resident of Danville died July 21, 2000 in a local hospital.
He was born in The Callands Community of Pittsylvania County, VA., February 27, 1914 a son of the late Elias Winston Amos and Annie Bowen Amos.
Mr. Amos was predeceased by all of his brothers and sisters: Page Amos, Hazel Britt Amos, Alvin Amos and Marvin Amos.
Surviving are his nephews: Donald and John Amos of Pittsylvania Co, Va. and Max Amos of Christiansburg, Va.
A Memorial Service will be held Sunday, September 23, 2001 at 3 P.M. from The Museville Christian Church by The J.D. Hunt, III and The Elder James Oakes.
