DANVILLE, Va. - Kerrick Wayne Jones, 32, of 428 Arlington Road, died Tuesday, Sept. 11, 2001, at the residence.
Born Aug. 19, 1969, in Danville, he was the son of Henry Jones and Kay Strater Jones, who survive.
He was married
to Rhonda Jones, who survives. He was an employee of Southern Processors Tobacco Company.
Survivors, in addition to his parents and wife, include one son, Lamont Jones of Danville and one sister, Acquanett Chance of Virginia Beach.
The family will receive friends at the residence.

Catherine ‘Cat’ Mangus
DE RIDDER, La. - Catherine “Cat” Wilson Mangus died Friday, Sept. 14, 2001, after several years of declining health.
Born in Richlands, she was the daughter of Joe H. Wilson and Cosby Wilson.
She was married
to William Esau Mangus, who predeceased her. She lived most of her life in Danville, Va., Florida, and lived the past year in De Ridder. She retired from Dan River Inc.
Survivors include one son, Gary Randy Mangus of Brosville; one daughter, Jackie Cantrell of De Ridder; three sisters, Rosa Lee Skeens of Cedar Bluff, Va., Vernie Brewster of Kinsgsport, Tenn., and Ruth Hamm of Niceville, Fla.; three grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.
The funeral will be held 2 p.m. Wednesday at Swicegood Chapel with the Rev. Jimmy Hussey officiating. A private interment will be held at Danville Memorial Gardens.
The family will receive friends 7-8:30 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home and other times at the home of Gary Mangus, 10985 Martinsville Highway.

Savannah Miller
GRETNA, Va. - Savannah Georgia Miller, 65, of 2240 White Fall Road, died Saturday, Sept. 15, 2001, at Danville Regional Medical Center.
Born Oct. 22, 1935, in Pittsylvania County, she was the daughter of Robert T. Miller and Isabell Hamm Miller.
She was a 20-year employee at Burlington Glass Fabrics in Altavista prior to her retirement due to disability. She was a member of the Mt. Airy Baptist Church in Gretna.
Survivors include one sister, Shirley Poindexter of Nathalie; two brothers, Curtis Miller and Richard Miller, both of Gretna, and one godchild, Linda Anderson.
She was predeceased, in addition to her parents, by one brother, Robert L. Miller.
The funeral will be held 1 p.m. Thursday at Mt. Airy Baptist Church with the Rev. R.P. King officiating. Interment
will follow at the church cemetery.
The family will receive friends 7-8 p.m. Wednesday at Miller Funeral Home and other times at the residence.

Joyce Moser
DANVILLE, Va. - Joyce Setliff Moser, 69, of 1434 Blair Loop Road, died Wednesday morning, Sept. 12, 2001, at Danville Regional Medical Center.
Born in Danville, she was the daughter of John Ramey Setliff and Claudia Esther Crabb Setliff.
She was first married
to Bruce N. Baker, who predeceased her and was later married
Dec. 10, 1998, to James W. Moser.
She was a kitchen dietary supervisor for Danville Regional Medical Center. She attended Seminole Drive Church of God of Prophesy.
Survivors include three daughters, Sherry Long of Dry Fork, and Debra Baker and Cindy White, both of Danville; three brothers, Ronnie Setliff and Rufus Setliff, both of Danville, and “Pete” Setliff of Midlothian; two sisters, Ann Fulton of Ohio and Catherine Guthrie of Charlottesville; five grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.
She was predeceased, in addition to her parents and husband, by one daughter, Gayle Baker and two brothers, James Setliff and Johnny Setliff.
The funeral will be held at 11 a.m. Friday at Barker Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Albert Moser and the Rev. Allen Holder officiating. Interment
will follow at Danville Memorial Gardens.
The family received friends from 7-8:30 p.m. Thursday at Barker Funeral Home and other times at the residence and the residence of Debra Baker, 2224 Orphanage Road in Danville.

Alia Parrish
ROANOKE, Va. - Mrs. Alia Crane Parrish formerly of Danville died Friday night at The Friendship Manor in Roanoke, Va. She had been a resident there since 1993.
She was born in Whitt, Va., July 20, 1907, daughter of the late James A. Crane and Annie Eanes Crane.
Mrs. Parrish had lived most of her life in Danville and attended The Blairs Baptist Church. She was married
to the late Beverly Swanson Parrish who died on September 22, 1988.
Mrs. Parrish’s father was a Civil War veteran. She was honored by The Sons of Confederate Veterans with a plaque and a real tribute of a Confederate Veteran Medal.
Surviving are many nieces and nephews whom she loved dearly: Jane Crane Gordon, Chesterfield, Va., Wayne and Judy Crane of Boones Mill, Va., Veberly L. and Barbara Crane, Jr. of Camden, S.C. and Anthony and Sharon Crane, Roanoke, Va.
Funeral services will be conducted Monday at 11 A.M. from The Blairs Baptist Church by The Reverend John Reed. Interment
will follow in Highland Burial Park. The family will receive friends at the church from 10 to 11 A.M. before the service.

Myrtie Pittmon
CHATHAM, Va. - Myrtie Dalton Pittmon, 83, of 181 Hurt St., died Saturday, Sept. 15, 2001, at Danville Regional Medical Center.
Born Jan. 9, 1918, in Pittsylanvia County, she was the daughter of Alver Bruce Dalton and Betty Mae Doss Dalton.
She was married
to Joe Cleveland Pittmon, who predeceased her. She was a member of Spring Garden Community Church.
Survivors include six daughters, Betty P. Davis of Nathalie, Joan P. Motley of Blairs, Cordie L. Terry, Vickye D. Pittmon, Peggy P. Eanes and Myrtie P. Giles, all of Chatham; four sons, Charlie G. Pittmon, John A. Pittmon and Steven R. Pittmon, all of Chatham and H. Vernon Pittmon of Penhook; one stepdaughter, Annie Mae Beale of Franklin; one foster son, James Keatts of Chatham; two brothers, Bernard W. Dalton of Raleigh, N.C. and Herbert H. Dalton of Lynchburg; 20 grandchildren; and 18 great-grandchildren.
She was predeceased, in addition to her parents and husband, by two brothers, Curtis L. Dalton and James E. Dalton.
The funeral will be held at 2 p.m. Monday at Spring Garden Community Church with the Rev. R.J. Barber and Minister Frank Fuller officiating. Interment
will follow at Hillcrest Burial Park in Chatham.

R.J. Rowland Jr.
HURT, Va. - Royace James “R.J.” Rowland Jr., 56, died Thursday, Sept. 20, 2001.
Born March 18, 1945, in Pittsylvania County, he was the son of Royace James Rowland Sr. and Hazel Hines Rowland.
He was married
to Diane Atkins Rowland, who survives. He was a member of Piney Grove Baptist Church and was an employee of Klopman.
Survivors, in addition to his wife of the residence, include two stepsons, Bryan Cochran and James William Cochran, both of Roanoke and two stepgrandchildren.
The funeral will be held 4:30 p.m. Saturday at Piney Grove Baptist Church with the Rev. Chuck Haley officiating. Interment
will follow at Gretna Burial Park.

Bonnie Shields
RICHMOND, Va. - Miss Bonnie Lorraine Shields died Saturday morning in The Ginter Hall South, Richmond, Va. She had been a resident there for many years.
She was born in Danville, July 24, 1921, a daughter of the late George Hume Shields and Lillian Bowman Shields.
Miss Shields was of the Baptist faith. A graduate of Blairs Public Schools and attended Averett College.
Surviving are one brother: George Hume Shields, Jr. and his wife, Leah of Danville. Two Nieces: Karen Luper of Richmond, Va. and Elizabeth Ateyeh of Austin, Texas.
Funeral services will be held Monday at 2 P.M. from the graveside at Highland Burial Park by The Reverend Dr. Joey Faucette.

SOUTH BOSTON, Va. - Roxie Pulliam Smith, 92, of 1036 Wolf Trap Road, died Sunday, Sept. 16, 2001, at Halifax Regional Hospital.
Born Aug. 24, 1909, in Halifax County, she was the daughter of Robert Pulliam and Jennie Pulliam.
She was married
to Obediah Smith, who predeceased her. She was a homemaker and was a member of North Fork Baptist Church.
Survivors include three sons, Robert Diah Smith, John Henry Smith and Lawrence Ray Smith, all of Virgilina; two daughters, Dorothy Smith Hite of South Boston and Margaret Smith Link of Cluster Springs; one brother, Jordan Pulliam of Virgilina; one sister, Anna Thaxton of South Boston; 14 grandchildren and 20 great-grandchildren.
The funeral will be held 2 p.m. Wednesday at North Fork Baptist Church with the Rev. Bill LaWall and the Rev. Richard Saunders officiating. Interment
will follow at the church cemetery.

SOUTH BOSTON, Va. -Myrtle Saunders Steube, 78, of 1117 Watkins Ave., died Sept. 12, 2001, at Halifax Regional Hospital.
Born May 15, 1923, in Halifax County, she was the daughter of Bernard David Saunders and Nannie St. John Saunders.
She was married
to George E. Steube, who survives. She was a member of McCanless Memorial United Methodist Church, Woodmen of the World Camp No. 106 South Boston and Henry Woodall Chapter No. 80 of the Eastern Star.
Survivors, in addition to her husband of South Boston, include two daughters, Mavis S. Phillips of South Boston and Joan S. Todd of Roanoke; three grandchildren; one great-grandson; three sisters, Minnie S. Glass of Nathalie, Louise S. Meadows of Richmond and Pauline S. Bettis of Greensboro, N.C. and one brother, Meade “Johnny” Saunders of Warsaw.
She was predeceased, in addition to her parents, by one daughter, Betty E. Steube.
The funeral will be held 11 a.m. Saturday at Powell Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Charles Wickham and the Rev. William “Bo” Setliff officiating. Interment
will follow at Oak Ridge cemetery with W.O.W. Rites.
