Zebedee Talley
DANVILLE, Va. - Bishop Zebedee Talley, 70, of 677 Colquohoun St., died Monday, Sept. 10, 2001, at Piney Forest Health Care Center.
Born Nov. 10, 1930, in Virgilina, he was the son of John and Atha Tuck Talley.
Survivors include two daughters, Sandra Fay Talley and Fraun Talley Niblett, both of Danville; two sons, Elder Zebedee Talley Jr. of Martinsville and Minister Barry Talley of Washington; three sisters, Gracie Stanfield of South Boston, Cecilia Crutchfield of Roxboro, N.C. and Katie Williams of Omega; six grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.
The funeral will be held at 12 noon Saturday at Christ Temple Apostolic Church with Elder Zebedee Talley Jr. officiating. Interment
will follow at Floral Hills Memory Gardens.
The family will receive friends at the residence of Sandra Talley, 135 Spruce St.

Lucy Terry
DANVILLE, Va. - Lucy Terry, 80, of 1487 Aspen St., died Sept. 11, 2001, at Danville Regional Medical Center.
Born March 15, 1921, in Pittsylvania County, she was the daughter of Wilson Terry and Nettie Beck Terry.
She was a retired employee of Dimon Inc.
Survivors include three sisters, Telma Terry, Margaret Payne and Queen Stone, all of Danville.
The funeral will be held 2 p.m. Saturday at New Mine Creek Progressive Primitive Baptist Church with Elder Keith Shuler officiating. Interment
will follow at Highland Burial Park cemetery.

Edith Thornton
DANVILLE, Va. - Edith Chandler Thornton, 72, of 6 Elizabeth St., died Sunday evening, Sept. 16, 2001, at Danville Regional Medical Center, after two months of declining health.
Born Jan. 13, 1929, in Danville, she was the daughter of Clarence Chandler and Martha Chandler.
She was married
to William P. Thornton, who predeceased her. She lived all of her life in Danville and was an executive secretary for the City Social Services for 35 years. She was a member of Calvary Baptist Church where she played piano for 30 years and was a Sunday School teacher.
Survivors include two daughters, Lou Ann Thornton and Kimberly Thornton, both of the residence, and one brother, Ray Chandler of Danville.
The funeral will be held 11 a.m. Wednesday at Swicegood Funeral Home with the Rev. Richard Markham officiating. Interment
will follow at Mountain View cemetery.
The family will receive friends 7-8 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home and other times at the residence.

Annie Towler
GRETNA, Va. - Annie Lee Shelton Towler, age 86, of 211 Pittsville Road, Gretna, Virginia, died Tuesday, September 18, 2001 in the Memorial Hermann Hospital of Orange, Texas.
Born May 29, 1915 in Chatham, Va., she was a daughter of the late Walter Lee Shelton and Mary Octavia Towler Shelton. Mrs. Towler was predeceased by her husband, J.W. “Willie” Towler and three brothers, Edmund Shelton, Morris Shelton and Billie Shelton. She was a member of the Gretna Christian Church and a former member of the West Gretna Extension Club and a former member of the CWF of the Gretna Christian Church. She was a home maker and a farmer.
She is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Mary Ann and Neil Brumfield of Bridge City, TX; a brother, Walter Hurt Shelton of Gretna, VA; a sister, Ellen Dalton of Gretna, VA; a grandson, Ben Brumfield and his wife Sara of Austin, TX.
Funeral services will be conducted 2:00 p.m. Sunday, September 23, 2001 at the Gretna Christian Church by Rev. Charles Ellis and Rev. Roy Parker. Burial will follow in Gretna Burial Park.
The family will receive friends 7 to 8:30 p.m. Saturday at Colbert-Moran Funeral Home and other times at the residence 211 Pittsville Road, Gretna.

DANVILLE, Va. - Earnest Ronell Walters, 49, of 624 Hughes St., died Monday, Sept. 10, 2001, at the residence.
Born Sept. 29, 1951, in Danville, he was the son of Earnest Alexander Walters and Loretta Mimms Still Walters.
He was employed by Dan River Inc. and Dibrell Brothers Tobacco Company.
Survivors include one daughter, Keisha Walters of Danville; one sister, Sharon Holiness of Danville and one brother, Cardell Walters of Danville.
The funeral will be held 1 p.m. Sunday at Shady Grove Baptist Church with the Rev. Stacy Frazier officiating.
Interment will follow at the church cemetery with military honors performed by American Legion Post 29 Burial Squad.

Clara Williamson
DANVILLE, Va. - Pastor Clara Watson Williamson, 57, of 346 Withers Circle, died Wednesday, Sept. 12, 2001, at Danville Regional Medical Center.
Born Sept. 24, 1943, in Danville, she was a daughter of Robert and Magnolia Carrington Watson.
She was married
to Wesley A. Williamson, who predeceased her. She was the pastor of Miracle Temple Holy Church, 408 Lynn St.
Survivors include four daughters, Evangelist Linda Watson Okome, Hope Williamson Moore, Michelle Watson Clark and Patrice Watson Davis, all of Danville; one son, Madison R. Watson of Greensboro, N.C.; two sisters, Elizabeth Watson and Marion Waddell, both of Danville; and two brothers, Johnny Watson of Danville and Robert Watson of Pennsylvania.
The funeral will be held at 2 p.m. Monday at Greater United Church of God, 924 N. Main St. with Apostle H.R. Cooper officiating.

Robin ‘Dinkle’ Young
WAYNESBORO, Mo. - Robin “Dinkle“ Carter Young, 40, died Saturday, Sept. 15, 2001, at the residence.
Born June 19, 1961, in Baltimore, Md., she was the daughter of Marvin C. Carter and Alice Marshall Carter.
She was married
to George W. Young Jr., who survives. She lived most of her life in Danville, Va., where she was a homemaker and of the Baptist faith.
Survivors, in addition to her husband of the residence, include two sons, George Young III and Mitchell Young, both of the residence; two brothers, Ray Carter of Pasadena, Md. and Marvin Carter Jr. of Danville, Va., and one sister, Linda G. Lewis of Danville, Va.
She was predeceased by two brothers, Douglas Carter and Dale Carter.
The funeral will be held 2 p.m. Thursday at Swicegood Funeral Home with the Rev. Clyde Deloach officiating. Interment
will follow at Schoolfield cemetery.

Ned Zimmerman
DANVILLE, Va. - Ned Austin Zimmerman, 72, of 750 Vicar Road, died Tuesday, Sept. 18, 2001, at the residence after several months of declining health.
Born Aug. 1, 1929, he was a son of George E. Zimmerman and Margaret Burris Zimmerman.
He was married
to Ruth P. Zimmerman, who survives. He lived his early life in Allentown, Pa. and moved to Danville in 1964. He was last employed as a salesman for E&H Mobile Homes. He was a member of Hillcrest Baptist Church and was a past master of the Ramah Lodge of Masons No. 70.
Survivors, in addition to his wife of the residence, include two daughters, Deannie Yothers of Stafford and Linda Oesterle of Lake Wales, Fla.; one stepson, Michael Osborne of Danville; one stepdaughter, Dianne Franklin of Richmond; two brothers, Chester R. Zimmerman of Orlando, Fla. and Jack A. Zimmerman of St. Peters, Mo.; 12 grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren and five stepgrandchildren.
The funeral will be held at 2 p.m. Friday at Hillcrest Baptist Church with the Rev. Ross Range officiating. Interment
will follow at Danville Memorial Gardens.

Diane Carter
DANVILLE, Va. - Diane Ragsdale Carter, 45, of 1013 Meadowview Drive, died Saturday, Sept. 22, 2001, at Danville Regional Medical Center, after five years of declining health and four days in the hospital.
Born Sept. 22, 1956, she was the daughter of Thelma Worley Ragsdale, who survives, and William Henry Ragsdale.
She was married
Feb. 14, 1984, to Philip H. Carter, who survives. She was a graduate of Tunstall High School and Danville Community College and had lived most of her life in the Bachelors Hall community. She was a member of Vandola Baptist Church and worked with the Danville Mental Health Association.
Survivors, in addition to her husband of the residence and mother of Danville, include one stepson, Philip Paul Carter of the residence.
The funeral will be held at 2 p.m. Monday at Swicegood Funeral Home with the Rev. Dr. Leroy Clack and the Rev. Rick Lancaster officiating. Interment
will follow at Danville Memorial Gardens.

Lillian Cook
CHESTER, Va. - Lillian Pickrel Cook age 82 of Chester died Friday September 21, 2001 in John Randolph Medical Center. She was born May 26, 1919 in Pittsylvania County, the daughter of the late Roy Carson and Ocie Jefferson Pickrel. Survivors include her husband, Koy B. Cook of the home, five daughters; Carolyn Wyatt Evans of Chester, Ivory L. McNew Plummer and Margaret E. McNew Southall both of Dinwiddie, VA, Phyllis McNew Cunningham of Sacramento, Ca. and Valerie L. McNew Barber of Midlothian, Va. five sons: Willford B. Wyatt of Littleton, NC, Robert S. McNew of Mercer, Ca. Rodney McNew of New Kent, Va. Koy B. Cook Jr. of Huntsville, Al. and Walter K. Cook of Elijay, GA. one sister; Colleen P. Everett of Hampton, Va. three brothers; Emory Guy Pickrel of Los Angeles, CA., James C. Pickrel of Danville, Va. and Lloyd E. Pickrel of Montebello, CA. Also surviving are 29 grandchildren and numerous great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by two sisters: Thelma Pickrel Waller and Catherine P. Hawkins.
Mrs. Cook was a founding member of the Bermuda Hundred United Methodist Church, Chester, an accomplished crafter, an owner of the Pine Palace Restaurant. She devoted many of her crafts to the benefits of the church and used her skill as a beautician in many local nursing homes. For many years she volunteered to work the collection baskets of the Salvation Army.

A celebration of life service will be conducted 11:00 AM Monday September 24, at the Bermuda Hundred United Methodist Church by the Rev. PENHOOK, Va. - Easome, Geraldine Bradner, 71 of Penhook, went to be with the Lord on Thursday, September 20, 2001. She is survived by her husband, Robert Lindburgh Easome, daughters and sons-in-law, Patsy and Manon Swain, Gretna, and Kathy and Stanley Pickeral, Penhook, son, Danny Ray Easome, Penhook, grandchildren, Penny Green and husband, Tim, Stacey Pickeral and wife, Betty, Robby Cook and wife, Melody, and Marty Pickeral, great-granddaughter, Marissa Green, a brother, Percy Bradner, Bassett, and a number of nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. on Sunday September 23, 2001 at the Cool Springs Christian Church with the Rev. Robert Montgomery and the Rev. Brian Vaughan officiating. Interment

Robert Hughes
HALIFAX, Va. - Robert Beckwith Hughes, 67, of 528 Canterbury Drive, died Friday, Sept. 21, 2001, at Halifax Regional Hospital.
Born April 17, 1934, in Halifax County, he was the son of Russell Beckwith Hughes and Mary Johnson Hughes.
He was married
to Tina Hughes, who survives. He was a member of St. John’s Episcopal Church.
Survivors, in addition to his wife of Halifax, include one granddaughter and one stepdaughter, Diane Yow of Randleman, N.C.
The graveside service will be held at 3 p.m. Sunday at St. John’s Episcopal Church cemetery with the Rev. David L. Booher officiating.
The family will receive friends from 7-8 p.m. Saturday at Powell Funeral Home and other times at the residence.
