DANVILLE, Va. - Mildred Greene Johnson of Danville, Va. died Saturday, September 22, 2001 in Conyers, Georgia.
She was born on June 18, 1911, in Charlotte, N.C., a daughter of the late William Thomas Greene and Carrie Woodside Greene.
Mrs. Johnson was a resident of Danville since 1935. Associated with Dan River, Inc. in 1942 retiring in 1976 from the order and billing department.
She was married
to Haddon Gary Johnson in 1953 and he died in 1991.
A member of The First Baptist Church where she was a former member of The Board of Deaconesses. Mrs. Johnson was a former Sunday School teacher. A member of The Wednesday Club.
Surviving are five nieces: Helen Greene Murchison of Conyers, GA, Freddye Greene Ledford, Wrightsville Beach, N.C., Ann Greene Caudle, Wrightsville Beach, Gladys Greene Newson, Wilmington, N.C., and Alice Greene Simms, Wilson, N.C.
Graveside services will be held Tuesday, September 25, 2001 at 2 P.M. from Highland Burial Park by The Reverend Dr. Joey Faucette.

Doretha Jones
DANVILLE, Va. - Doretha Jones, 61, of 1220 Forest St., died Friday, Sept. 21, 2001, at the residence.
Born March 17, 1940, in Caswell County, N.C., she was a daughter of Sadie Jones.
She was employed by Dan River Mills as an inspector for many years.
Survivors include four daughters, Sharon Jones of Danville, Connie Wimbush of Dry Fork, Sheila Jones of Leasburg and Aretha Noel of Louisville, Ky.; two sons, Timothy Jones and Darrell Jones, both of Danville; one sister, Lola Jones of Blairs; and three grandchildren.
The funeral will be held at 2 p.m. Tuesday at Fisher and Watkins Funeral Home chapel with the Rev. Herbert Dickerson officiating. Interment
will follow at Highland Burial Park.
The family will receive friends at the residence.

Martin Lynskey Jr.
DANVILLE, Va. - Martin Thomas Lynskey Jr., 61, of 1337 Loomfixer Lake Road, died Friday, Sept. 21, 2001, at Danville Regional Medical Center after one year of declining health.
Born May 5, 1940, in Pittsylvania County, he was a son of Martin Thomas Lynskey Sr. and Ollie Moss Lynskey.
He was married
July 17, 1981, to Betsy Jones Lynskey, who survives. He lived his life in Danville and Pittsylvania County and was employed for 29 years with Goodyear Tire and Rubber Company prior to his retirement. He was of the Baptist faith.
Survivors, in addition to his wife of the residence, include one son, Tommy L. Lynskey of Danville; one daughter, Denise L. Taylor of Danville; two stepsons, Rick Valentine of Silverdale, Wash. and Randy Valentine of Tallahassee, Fla.; three stepdaughters, Rene Valentine of Top Sail Beach, N.C., Robin Stephens of Danville and Rhonda Anderson of Amelia; six brothers, William Lynskey, Garry Lynskey, Steven Lynskey and Carl Lynskey, all of Danville, James Lynskey of Martinsville and Johnny Lynskey of Providence, N.C.; five sisters, Ann L. Lovel, Mary Maxie, Joyce Scearce, Margaret Ketchum and Brenda Barker, all of Danville; two grandchildren; and 11 stepgrandchildren.
The funeral will be held at 11 a.m. Monday at Wrenn-Yeatts Westover Chapel with the Rev. Wayne Hall officiating. Interment
will follow at Lynskey Family cemetery.

‘Fannie’ Mays
DANVILLE, Va. - Francis “Fannie” Bledsoe Mays, 91, formerly of Westover Drive, died Saturday, Sept. 22, 2001, at Roman Eagle Memorial Home after six years of declining health.
Born May 20, 1910, in Surry County, N.C., she was a daughter of John Martin Bledsoe and Mollie Hudson Bledsoe.
She was married
to Arnold Crews Mays, who predeceased her July 5, 1987. She lived most of her life in the Westover community. She worked in the weave room of Dan River Inc. for 51 years, prior to her retirement in 1975. She was a member of the Kingdom Hall of Jehovah’s Witness.
The graveside service will be held at 2 p.m. Tuesday at Highland Burial Park with Elder Dexter Gravely and Elder Ted Barksdale officiating.

Carl McKee
CLARKSVILLE, Va. - Mr. Carl McKee, 68, husband of Jean Driver McKee, died Thursday, September 20, 2001 at the VA Medical Center in Durham, NC. Born in Pickens County, South Carolina on November 11, 1932, he was the son of the late Paul J. and Cordelia M. McKee. Mr. McKee had served in the U.S. Army and had worked as General Superintendent of Transcontinental.
Surviving other than his wife are daughters, Vickie Leigh McKee of Henderson, N.C. and Wendy Michelle McKee of Mississippi; a son, Michael Carl McKee of Stem, NC; sisters, Evelyn Markham of Clarksville and Nancy Allen of Lillington, NC; brothers, James E. McKee of Danville, Fred McKee of Pittsboro, NC and John McKee of Durham, NC; 5 grandchildren: Amy Brann Dameron, Bryan Neil Brann, Lee Cheek, Dara Alisyn McKee and Angie Sigmon.

Carolyn Moore
DANVILLE, Va. - Carolyn Wall Moore, 60, of 199 River Ridge Road, formerly of Rosemary Lane, died Friday, Sept. 21, 2001, at Danville Regional Medical Center after several years of declining health.
Born March 10, 1941, in King Mountain, N.C., she was a daughter of Johnny M. Wall and Doris Barbour Wall.
She was married
to Hendricks “Doug” Moore Sr., who predeceased her. She lived most of her life in the Westover Hills community and attended George Washington High School. She was a sales clerk at News and Novels in Riverside Center. She was a loving wife, mother and grandmother. She attended Long View Friends Church on Long View Drive.
Survivors include three daughters, Teresa Moore Soyars of Brosville and Kelly Moore Hudson and Kristie Moore Strange, both of Danville; one son, Hendricks Douglas Moore Jr. of Danville; one brother, Larry Wall of Danville; and eight grandchildren.
She was predeceased, in addition to her parents and husband, by one sister, Geraldine Johnson, and one grandson.
The graveside service will be held at 2 p.m. Sunday at Danville Memorial Gardens with Fred Kensler officiating.
The family will be at the residence of Kelly Hudson, 218 Ethel Court.

Robert Moss Sr.
CHATHAM, Va. - Robert Andrew Moss Sr., 57, of 2141 Gap Road, died Saturday afternoon, Sept. 22, 2001, at the residence.
Born Feb. 1, 1944, in Danville, he was a son of Dewey Preston Moss, who survives and Oma Anderson Moss.
He was married
to Brenda Snead Moss, who survives. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army, having served during the Vietnam era. He made his home in the Swansonville community since 1990, after spending most of his life in the Vandola Road community. He retired on disability in 1995 from Dan River Inc. and was of the Baptist faith.
Survivors, in addition to his wife of the residence and father of Danville, include one daughter, Arlene Moss Harris of Forest; one son, Robert A. Moss Jr. of Chatham; seven brothers, Charles T. Moss, James H. Moss, Bill F. Moss and Barney D. Moss, all of Danville; Ray F. Moss of Liberty, N.C., Melvin L. Moss of Ellsinore, Mo. and Raymond L. Moss of Bonhem, Texas; two sisters, Nellie M. Dalton of Gretna and Nancy M. McCune of Danville; four grandchildren and two great grandchildren.

Cecil Stone
DANVILLE, Va. - Cecil Garland Stone, 79, of 95 Fairfield Ave., died Friday, Sept. 21, 2001, at Stratford Health Care Center after six months of declining health and a period of time in the hospital.
Born Aug. 12, 1922, in Spartanburg, S.C., he was the son of Robert Stone and Mary Taylor Stone.
He was married
62 years to Juanita Mace Stone, who survives. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army, having served during World War II. He spent most of his life in Danville, where he worked at Dan River Inc. for 34 years prior to his retirement at the age of 64. He enjoyed working on small engines as a hobby and was a speech therapist volunteer. He was a member of Free Will Baptist Church in Marion, N.C.
Survivors, in addition to his wife of the residence, include one daughter, Linda Gayle Roach of Danville; one son, James Donald Stone of Denver, N.C.; three grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren.
The graveside service will be held at 11 a.m. Monday at Schoolfield cemetery with the Rev. Charles Hawkins officiating. Interment
will follow with military honors performed by American Legion Dan River Post No. 1097 Honor Guard.

DANVILLE, Va. - Gloria Sigmon Thompson, 70, of 414 Stevens St., died Saturday, Sept. 22, 2001, at Duke University Medical Center in Durham, N.C.
Born Feb. 12, 1931, she was a daughter of Roy Sigmon, who survives, and Alma Shively Sigmon.
She was married
to Harold Webster Thompson Sr., who predeceased her April 24, 1992. She was retired from Dan River Inc. and was a member of Central Boulevard Church of God.
Survivors, in addition to her father of Canton, Ohio, include four daughters, Dawn Stroud of Lynchburg and Joy Hogancamp, Becky Spencer and Pam Spencer, all of Danville; three sons, Harold W. Thompson Jr., Timothy R. Thompson and James Steven Thompson, all of Danville; one sister, Frances Ross of Spokane, Wash.; 11 grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.

BLAIRS, Va. - Ruby Cole Tuck, 71, of 152 Windflower Drive, died Thursday, Sept. 20, 2001, at the residence after five months of declining health.
Born Jan. 13, 1930, in Person County, N.C., she was a daughter of Arthur Chappell Cole and Mamie Bryant Cole.
She was married
Oct. 29, 1949 to Edward Marshall Tuck, who predeceased her Sept. 5, 1999. She lived most of her life in Pittsylvania County, where she was a homemaker. She was a member of Mt. Pleasant United Methodist Church and a member of Mt. Pleasant Ladies Bible Study Group.
Survivors include three daughters, Deborah C. McLendon of Atlanta, Marsha C. Reynolds of Greensboro, N.C. and Glenda C. Elliott of Axton; three brothers, Arthur Cole of Mebane, N.C. and Robert Fred Cole and Dandy Cole, both of Roxboro, N.C.; five sisters, Nannie C. Talley, Florence C. Yarbrough, Melissa C. Carter and Elsie C. Davis, all of Roxboro, N.C and Hattie C. Warren of Alton; and eight grandchildren.
She was predeceased, in addition to her parents and husband, by one sister, Mary C. Long.

Born Jan. 12, 1928, in Pittsylvania County, he was a son of Charlie Everett White and Delia Gammon White.
He was married
to Patsy Adkins White, who survives. He lived most of his life in Keeling and was a retired farmer. He was of the Baptist faith.
Survivors, in addition to his wife of the residence, include one daughter, Crystal White Nelson of Nelson; one sister, Frances W. Pruitt of Vernon Hill; and two grandchildren.
He was predeceased, in addition to his parents, by four brothers, James White, Luther White, Jefferson White and Edward White and two sisters, Juanita White and Ruby Shelton.
