Vera Aldrich
DANVILLE, Va. - Vera Wilson Aldrich, age 83, of 101 Glen Oak Drive, died at her residence Saturday afternoon September 29, 2001.
Mrs. Aldrich was born in the Cascade community of Pittsylvania County on April 11, 1918, a daughter of the late Frank Wilson and Hattie Ferrell Wilson.
She was married
to Merideth Aldrich who predeceased her in 1974.
Mrs. Aldrich had made her home in Danville for the past 30 years where she was a homemaker. She was a member of Ashland Road Baptist Church in Caswell County, North Carolina.
Survivors include one daughter: JoAnne Aldrich Spainhour of Pelham, North Carolina, and four sisters: Ina Hold and Lena Ketts both of Reidsville, North Carolina, and Annie Grubbs of Eden, North Carolina, and Helen Loving of Ruffin, North Carolina, and three brothers: Jack Wilson of Greensboro, North Carolina, and Billy Wilson of Reidsville, North Carolina, and John Wilson of Providence, North Carolina, and seven grandchildren: Paul Boyd, Jr., Darrell Boyd, Carl Boyd, Tammy Reed, Melissa Humphries, Knikki Humphries, and Randy Humphries, II, and 14 Great grandchildren also survive.
She was predeceased by a son, Frank E. Aldrich.
Funeral services will be conducted at 2:00 P.M. Tuesday at the Ashland Road Baptist Church on the Park Springs Road in Caswell County, North Carolina by the Rev. Bill Terrell. Interment
will follow at the church cemetery.

Arlene Bosserman
BUENA VISTA, Va. - Arlene Cunningham Bosserman, 88, of Buena Vista died Wednesday, September 26, 2001 in the Danville Regional Medical Center. Born December 5, 1912 in Buena Vista, she was the daughter of the late Samuel E. and Nannie Breeden Cunningham. Mrs. Bosserman was a member of St. John’s United Methodist Church where she taught Sunday School, was a choir member, and was a member of the United Methodist Women. She was a member of the Order of the Eastern Star. Mrs. Bosserman was preceded in death by her husband, Francis Eugene Bosserman and her brother, Claude E. Cunningham.
Surviving are her daughter and son-in-law, Linda B. and T. Neal Dodson of Ringgold.
The funeral service will be twelve noon Saturday, September 29, 2001 at St. John’s United Methodist Church with Rev. A. Howell Franklin officiating. Burial will follow in Green Hill cemetery. The family will receive friends Friday, 7 to 8:30 p.m. at Lomax Funeral Home. Memorial donations may be made to the St. John’s United Methodist Church. Wiley Bradshaw
DANVILLE, Va. - Wiley Malcomb Bradshaw, 80, of 144 Kemper Road, died Sunday morning, Sept. 30, 2001, at the residence, after six months of declining health.
Born May 26, 1921, in Malcomb, Ga., he was the son of Wiley Lee Bradshaw and Gladys Daisy Landers Bradshaw.
He was married
Nov. 11, 1944, to Maudie Pruitt Bradshaw, who survives.
He served in the Civilian Conservation Corps for four years during World War II. He was a farmer until 1959, and then worked for H.A. Nunn Road Construction. He later worked for Daystorm Furniture Company and later for Dan River Inc. He was of the Baptist faith.
Survivors, in addition to his wife of the residence, include one son, LeRoy Bradshaw of Clarksville; three brothers, Billy Joe Bradshaw of Madison, N.C., David Lee Bradshaw of Denton, N.C. and James Walter Bradshaw of Dry Fork; two sisters, Cynthia Beatrice Edwards of Salisbury, N.C. and Mary Lou Owens of Denton, N.C.; three grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.
He was predeceased, in addition to his parents, by one sister, Becky Ingram.
The graveside service will be held 2 p.m. Tuesday at Danville Memorial Gardens with the Rev. Rudolph Jacobs officiating.

DANVILLE, Va. - Floyd D. Brown, 84, of 185 Graymont Place, died Monday, Sept. 24, 2001, at the residence.
Born Aug. 6, 1917, in Roxboro, N.C., he was married
to Elizabeth Brown, who survives. He was a laborer for Dan River Mills and was a member of Loyal Baptist Church.
Survivors, in addition to his wife of the residence, include one sister, Elizabeth Skinner of Roxboro, N.C.
The funeral will be held at 1 p.m. Thursday at Loyal Baptist Church with the Rev. Lovelle Maxwell Jr. officiating. Interment
will follow at Floral Hills Memory Gardens.

DANVILLE, Va. - Patricia Harvey Cassell, 66, of 108 Kemper Court, died Monday, Sept. 24, 2001, at Danville Regional Medical Center.
Born in Rockingham County, N.C, she was married
to Paul F. Cassell, who survives. She was a member of Schoolfield United Methodist Church.
Survivors, in addition to her husband of the residence, include one son, Timothy Paul Cassell of Danville; mother, Lona Martin Harvey of Eden, N.C.; sister, Cornelia H. Wray of Greensboro, N.C.; and five grandchildren.
The funeral will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday at Schoolfield United Methodist Church. Interment
will follow at Dan View cemetery.

Oscar ‘O.E.’ Clark Jr.
SOUTH BOSTON, Va. -Oscar Ellis “O.E.” Clark Jr., 80, of 2051 Birch-Elmo Road, died Wednesday, Sept. 26, 2001, at the residence.
Born Sept. 9, 1921, in Halifax County, he was a son of Oscar Ellis Clark Sr. and Mary Strange Clark.
He was married
to Lucille Satterfield Clark, who survives. He was a lifelong member of Mt. Zion Baptist Church; a U.S. Army veteran of World War II, having served in the 80th Division, 317th Infantry; a member of the Wilson Memorial Ruritan Club; a charter member of Oak Level Volunteer Fire Department; and a member of Woodmen of the World Camp 127.
Survivors, in addition to his wife of the residence, include one brother, Roy Hutcherson Clark of South Boston.
He was predeceased, in addition to his parents, by one brother, Aubrey Thomas Clark Sr.
The funeral will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday at Mt. Zion Baptist Church with the Rev. Joseph Willis officiating. Interment
will follow at Halifax Memorial Gardens with Woodmen Rites.

STEPHENVILLE, Texas - Christine Banks Cochran, 85, of 1670 Lingleville Road, formerly of the Vandola community, died Tuesday, Sept. 25, 2001, at Harris Methodist Hospital.
Born Feb. 9, 1916, in Meadows of Dan, she was the daughter of William J. Banks and Bessie Reynolds Banks.
She was married
to Ralph Vaughn Cochran, who predeceased her in 1969. She lived the past year in Texas and resided in Waco from 1959-1973. She lived in Danville most of her life, where she worked for Dan River Inc. and was a member of the Seventh Day Adventist Church on Piney Forest Road.
Survivors include one son, Thomas R. Cochran of Stephenville; two brothers, William J. Banks Jr. of Kernersville, N.C. and Hansel Banks of Stuart; three sisters, twin sister Pauline Banks of Meadows of Dan and Edith Hutcherson and Juanita Cochran, both of Danville; three grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.
She was predeceased, in addition to her husband and parents, by one brother, Wayne Banks.
The funeral will be held at 2 p.m. Friday at Swicegood Funeral Home Chapel with Pastor Rick Labate officiating. Interment
will follow at Danville Memorial Gardens.

RICHMOND, Va. - Berkwood Malcolm Farmer Jr., 36, died Thursday, Sept. 20, 2001.
Survivors include his parents, Mariah Farmer of Richmond and Dr. Berkwood M. Farmer Sr. of Dayton, Ohio, and two sisters, Katherine Farmer of Richmond and Donna F. Roberts of Charleston, S.C.

NATHALIE, Va. - Joel Gurney Conner Sr., 60, of 1033 Hardings Mill Road, died Thursday, Sept. 27, 2001.
Born Dec. 16, 1940, in Halifax County, he was a son of Nannie Francisco Conner, who survives, and James Garland Conner.
He was married
to Nancy C. Owen Conner, who survives. He was a member of the National Rifle Association and the National Satellite Association.
Survivors, in addition to his wife of Nathalie and mother of Nathalie, include two sons, Joel Gurney Conner Jr. of Glenn Heights, Texas and Albert B. Owen III of Halifax; three sisters, Brenda Ann Conner of Halifax, Judy C. Anderson of Nathalie and Helen C. Bates of Vernon Hill; and one brother, Mitchell Conner of Halifax.
He was predeceased, in addition to his father, by one brother, Jimmy Long Conner.
The graveside service will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday at Hunting Creek Baptist Church cemetery with the Rev. H.V. Conner officiating.

DANVILLE, Va. - Brenda Sizemore Firebaugh, 61, formerly of Covington, died Saturday, Sept. 22, 2001, at the residence.
Born May 27, 1940, in Alleghany County, she was a daughter of Christine Hill Sizemore, who survives, and Joseph N. Sizemore.
She was married
to Freddie Jerome “Jerry” Firebaugh, who survives.
Survivors, in addition to her mother and husband of Danville, include one son, Dr. Jay Firebaugh of Pasadena, Texas; one granddaughter; one grandson; one sister, Deena Smith of Selma; and one brother, Michael Sizemore of Carmel, Calif.

will follow at Alleghany Memorial Park.

RINGGOLD, Va. - Edward Garland, 79, of 211 Gunn-Garland Court, died Wednesday, Sept. 26, 2001, at the residence.
Born June 30, 1922, in Pittsylvania County, he was a son of Mark and Sallie Harper Garland.
He was married
to Mae Ella Brown Garland, who survives. He was a retired employee of Dan River Inc. and was a veteran of the U.S. Army.
Survivors, in addition to his wife, include one daughter, Vonda M. Venable of Ringgold; five sisters, Ola Gwynn, Lousie Davis, Gracie Gunn, Myrle Fraizer and Mary Sue Sherman, all of Ringgold; and three brothers, Wilbert Garland Sr., Matthew Garland Sr. and Henry Garland, all of Ringgold.
The funeral will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday at Macedonia A.M.E. Church in Milton, N.C. with the Rev. Curtis Strater officiating. Interment
will follow at Floral Hills Memory Garden cemetery with Military Honors performed by American Legion Post 29 Honor Guard.
