Samuel Cobb Sr.
DANVILLE, Va. - Samuel Pleasant Cobb Sr., 77, of 149 Marshall Terrace, died Sunday, Oct. 1, 2001, at Danville Regional Medical Center.
Born Feb. 21, 1924, in Danville, he was the son of Samuel P. and Ida Scott Cobb.
He was married
to Hazel Collins Cobb, who survives. He was a member of First Baptist Church, where he taught the Garnett Norton Sunday School Class and served on the Board of Deacons.
He was a member and former president of Roman Eagle Lodge No. 122 and was a 33 degree Mason. He was retired from the U.S. Postal Service and was employed by Southwood Realty and Auction.
Survivors, in addition to his wife of the residence, include one son, Samuel P. Cobb Jr.; one daughter, Ann C. Trull of Danville; one sister, Catherine C. Meadows of Danville; and two grandchildren.
He was predeceased, in addition to his parents, by one sister, Evelyn C. Mitchell and one brother, Norman S. Cobb.
The graveside service will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday at Mountain View cemetery with the Rev. Joey Faucette and the Rev. Joe Northern officiating.
The family will receive friends from 7-8:30 p.m. Tuesday at Townes Funeral Home and other times at the residence.
The family suggests in lieu of flowers memorials be made to Danville Life Saving Crew, 202 Christopher Lane, Danville, Va. 24541, or a charity of choice.

Frank Courts Jr.
DANVILLE, Va. - Frank Courts Jr., 83, of 249 Lincoln St., died Friday, Sept. 28, 2001, at Danville Regional Medical Center.
Born March 23, 1918, in Rockingham County, N.C., he was a son of Mattie and Frank Courts Sr.
He was married
to Carrie Courts, who survives.
Survivors, in addition to his wife, include one son, Frank E. Courts of Danville; two sisters, Mary Brandon and Lucille Powell, both of Danville; and one brother, Sam H. Courts of South Boston.
The funeral will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday at Prospect Missionary Baptist Church with the Rev. Demetrius Crews officiating. Interment
will follow at Floral Hills Memory Garden.
The family will receive friends at the residence.

Juanita Doss
SYCAMORE, Ill. - Juanita Doss, 79, formerly of Gretna, died Wednesday, Sept. 19, 2001, after a one-year battle with Lou Gehrig’s Disease.
Born Aug. 13, 1922, in Virginia, she was a daughter of Revy and Carrie Doss.
She lived in Sycamore for 45 years, where she spent many years volunteering at Elmwood cemetery, nursing homes and many service organizations. She was a member of the Sycamore Historical Society and Museum and a good friend to veterans and firefighters of Sycamore. She wrote “Gone but Not Forgotten,” a book about local war heroes, especially Civil War veterans. She was the founder of the Elmwood cemetery Walk and made many improvements to the gravesites of soldiers. She took on many projects at the cemetery, including the rotunda project.
Survivors inlcude two brothers, Florenteen Doss and Danny Doss, both of Gretna and two sisters, Avis Gaddy of Hurt and Kaydean Haley of Danville.
The private graveside service was held at 11 a.m. Saturday at Gretna Burial Park with the Rev. W.D. Lilly officiating.

Albert Drake
CHATHAM, Va. - Albert William Dale Drake, 63, of 4945 Strader Road, died Monday, Oct. 22, 2001, at the residence.
Born Feb. 2, 1938, in Cartland, N.Y., he was the son of Wayne Winfield Drake and Ethel Katherine Bailey Drake.
Survivors include one sister, Dawn Pickerd of Hurt.
His remains will be cremated.

Hattie Eanes
DANVILLE, Va. - Hattie Brizendine Eanes, 71, of 157 Ireson St., died Tuesday evening, Oct. 2, 2001, at Duke University Medical Center in Durham, N.C. after 12 years of declining health and five days in the hospital.
Born July 30, 1930, in Madison Heights, she was the daughter of James Brizendine and Gracie Miller Brizendine.
She was married
May 2, 1953, to Buford Davis Eanes, who survives. She was a graduate of E.C. Glass High School in Lynchburg and sepnt most of her life in Danville, where she worked for C&P Telephone Company as an operator for 31 years prior to her retirement at the age of 62. She was a member of Ferry Road Friends Church.
Survivors, in addition to her husband of the residence, include one daughter, Dianne Eanes Stone of Danville; one son, Ray Davis Eanes of Ringgold; three sisters, Eula Brizendine, Mattie Brizendine and Annie Carter, all of Lynchburg; five grandchildren; one great-grandchild and two step-grandchildren.
She was predeceased, in addition to her parents, by two brothers, one sister and one grandchild.
The funeral will be 2 p.m. Friday at Swicegood Funeral Home with the Rev. W.L. Wade officiating. Interment
will follow at Highland Burial Park.
The family will receive friends 7-8:30 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home and other times at the residence.
Steven Hendrickson
DANVILLE, Va. - Steven Scott Hendrickson, 48, of 314 Arnett Blvd., died Sunday, Oct. 21, 2001, at Danville Regional Medical Center.
Born Aug. 23, 1953, in Oahu, Hawaii, he was the son of Arvil “Busch” Hendrickson and Nona Lucille Berringer Hendrickson.
He was married
July 10, 1982, to Pamela McCraw Hendrickson, who survives. He was a member of North Main Baptist Church. He had been a resident of Danville since 1983 and worked for Computer Sciences Corp. in Greensboro, N.C. as a computer specialist. He worked for Danville Public Schools as an electronics teacher at George Washington High School from 1983 to 1998. He was listed in the Who’s Who of American Teachers in 1994.
Survivors, in addition to his wife of the residence, include one daughter, Michelle Lynn Hendrickson of the residence and two sisters, Gina H. Dixon of Gloucester Point and Commander Mary Ann Hendrickson, U.S. Navy, of Omaha, Neb.
He was predeceased, in addition to his parents, by one sister, Jan Hendrickson.
The memorial service will be held at 4 p.m. Wednesday at North Main Baptist Church with the Rev. Van Moore and the Rev. Jack Noble officiating.
The family will receive friends at the residence.

Madeline Huffman
GRETNA, Va. - Madeline Hines Huffman, 85, of 421 Dewberry Road, died Wednesday, Oct. 3, 2001, at Lynchburg General Hospital.
Born Oct. 6, 1915, in Pittsylvania County, she was the daughter of Henry Arthur Hines and Molly Elizabeth Johnson Hines.
She was married
to Grayson Huffman Sr., who predeceased her. She was a member of West End Church of Christ, a member of the Gretna Home Demonstration Club, Motley Senior Citizens Friendship Club, the West End Ladies Auxiliary and West End Church of Christ Choir. She was a former employee of Klopman.
Survivors include one son, W.G. “Buddy” Huffman Jr. of Gretna; three daughters, Mona Ferguson of Madison Heights, Nancy Shannon of Lynchburg and Rhonda Milam of Gretna; one sister, Thelma McBride of Gretna; nine grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.
She was predeceased, in addition to her husband and parents, by two brothers, Jesse Hines and Emmitt Hines and two sisters, Gladys Dalton and Iva Shelton.
The funeral will be held 11 a.m. Saturday at West End Church of Christ with Randy Parker, Minister, officiating. Interment
will follow at Gretna Burial Park.
The family will receive friends 7-8:30 p.m. Friday at Colbert-Moran Funeral Home and other times at the residence.

MACON, Ga. - Charles W. Hughes age 69 of 2917 Ruark Rd., Macon, Ga. formerly of Danville, VA passed away Sat. 29, 2001 in a hospital in Macon. He was born March 9, 1932 in the Mayfield community of Rockingham County, N.C. He was the son of John T. and Nannie Sue Dix Hughes. He was married
to Alice Blunt Hughes of the residence. He is survived by one daughter Patricia H. Daniel of Kenbridge, Va., and 2 granddaughters, and 4 step children and 10 step grandchildren, 2 sisters Marjorie H. Evans of Lynchburg, Va., Marian H. Giles of Danville, Va. 1 brother Rodger G. Hughes of Virginia Beach, Va. He was preceded by one sister Virginia H. Hendricks, 2 brothers, Rudy T. Hughes, and Richard D. Hughes. A funeral will be held at 11:00 AM Tuesday morning Oct. 2, 2001 at Bridges Funeral Home in Gray, Ga. He will have a private burial.
Millard Ingram
AXTON, Va. - Millard Alexander Ingram, age 81, of 17448 Martinsville Hwy., Axton, VA, died 10/01/01 Monday at Memorial Hospital Martinsville.
Born 11/20/19 in Franklin County, VA, he was the son of Omer Ingram (deceased) and Amanda Snead Ingram (deceased).
He was owner/operator and retired from Axton Home Improvement. He was a member of Axton Baptist Church.
Survivors include his wife Hazel Thomas Ingram of the residence; 3 sons, Cordell M. Ingram of Richmond, VA, Mickey R. Ingram of Axton, VA and Gary O. Ingram of Martinsville, VA; 1 brother, Leonard Ingram of Henry, VA; 6 grandchildren and 4 great-grandchildren.
He was predeceased by four sisters and three brothers.
The funeral will be at Norris Funeral Services Chapel 11:00 AM Weds. Oct. 3 with Rev. Bobby Rakes & Rev. Oscar Adams officiating. Burial will be at Mill Creek Baptist Church cemetery, Henry, VA.
Visitation will be at Norris Funeral Services, Tues. Oct. 2 from 7:00-8:30 PM and other times at the residence.

Julia Jackson
DANVILLE, Va. - Julia Lawyer Jackson, 84, of 163 Fredrick St., died Monday, Oct. 22, 2001, at Roman Eagle Nursing Home.
Born Nov. 6, 1917, in Rimini, S.C., she was a daughter of James Lawyer and Julia Davis Lawyer.
She was married
to Leroy Jackson, who predeceased her. She was a retired registered nurse at Temple University Medical Center in Philadelphia.
Survivors include one daughter, Carrie Brown of Danville; five grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; and four great-great-grandchildren.
The funeral will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday at Fisher and Watkins Funeral Home Chapel with Minister Sampson Brown officiating. Interment
will follow at Highland Burial Park.

Marcie Kaiser
SEBRING, Fla. - Marcie Morton Kaiser, 90, of 13 Maranatha Boulevard, died Sunday, Sept. 30, 2001, at Stratford Health Care Center, where she had been a resident since June 29, 2001.
Born Jan. 8, 1911, in Philadelphia, she was a daughter of Herbert E. Morton and Annie Rosalie Diaz Morton.
She was first married
to the Rev. Paul M. Cell, who predeceased her and she later married
Walter Kaiser, who also predeceased her. She lived in New Jersey for many years and graduated from Hadden Heights High School, Glassboro Normal College and New Jersey State Teachers College in Patterson. She received a bachelor’s degree in religious education from the National Bible Institute of New York. She was in the U.S. Army from 1943-1946 and earned the rank of sergeant. She was a teacher for 40 years prior to her retirement in 1971. She was a resident of Maranatha Village for 18 years and was a resident of Stratford Assisted Living from Dec. 22, 2000 until June 22, 2001.
Survivors include her sister, Dorothy R. White of Danville.
The funeral will be held in Sebring.
