DANVILLE, Va. - Virginia Murriel Long, 84, of Danville, died Saturday, Sept. 29, 2001, at Piney Forest Health Care Center.
Born Oct. 24, 1916, in Blanch, N.C., she was the daughter of Etta and Charlie Henry Long.
Survivors include five sisters, Lois Anna Long-Howard of Hampton, Delores Long-Williams of New York, Marlene Long Wharton, Leovia Long-Henry and Mabel Long-Hodnett, all of Danville and one brother, Linwood Palmer Long of Bronx, N.Y.
The funeral will be held 1 p.m. Friday at Fisher and Watkins Funeral Home with the Rev. Alphonso Tate officiating. Interment
will follow at Highland Burial Park cemetery.
The family will receive friends at 208 Beaver Mill Road, Apt. A in Danville.

Jacob ‘Jake’ Mangus
DANVILLE, Va. - Jacob D. “Jake” Mangus, 74, of 2840 Old Mayfield Road, died Tuesday, Oct. 23, 2001, at Brian Center in Yanceyville, N.C.
Born March 12, 1927, in McComas, W.Va., he was a son of Wirt Marshall Mangus and Pluma Cecil Mangus.
He was married
to Cynthia Johnson Mangus, who survives. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army, serving in Austria and Germany during World War II. He lived his early life in West Virginia and was a retired minister, having served as pastor of West Park Baptist Church and Indian Hill Baptist Church in Greenville, S.C. for several years, as well as Piedmont View Baptist Church. He was a member of Pleasant View Baptist Church.
Survivors, in addition to his wife of the residence, include two sons, Terry Daniel “Danny” Mangus of Dublin and Dallas Wirt Mangus of Louisiana; one daughter, Norma Hudgins Towles of Madison Heights; three stepdaughters, Judy Crumpton Rose of Danville and Jane Grubbs Bray and Susan Grubbs Gauldin, both of Pelham, N.C.; one stepson, Ricky Grubbs of Danville; three sisters, Vera Mangus Sowers of Blairs and Betty Mae Mangus and Nancy “Polly” Mangus Phelps, both of Danville; five grandchildren; and a number of great-grandchildren.
The funeral will be held at 2 p.m. Friday at Swicegood Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Gilmore Hundley officiating. Interment
will follow at Floral Hills Memory Gardens with military honors performed by American Legion Post No. 1097 Honor Guard.
The family will receive friends from 7-8:30 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home and other times at the residence of Nancy Mangus, 189 Locust Lane and 193 Locust Lane.

Mamie Marshall
DANVILLE, Va. - Mamie Gusler Marshall, 83, formerly of 355 Arnett Boulevard, died Sunday, Sept. 30, 2001, at Riverside Health Care Center after several months of declining health.
Born June 28, 1918, in Franklin County, she was a daughter of William McKinley Gusler and Nellie Gray Sigmon Gusler.
She was married
to Edward Jessie Marshall, who predeceased her Jan. 14, 1996. She worked for Dan River Inc. for 32 years in the research division. She was a member of Moseley Memorial United Methodist Church for more than 51 years. She was a member of the Rebecca Lodge No. 8, where she was a past president. She was also a member of the Dan River Retirees Club.
Survivors include one son, Curtis Young of Ferrum; three daughters, Rebecca Barber and Ruby Adkins, both of Danville and Edna May Barrington of Eden, N.C.; three brothers, William N. Gusler of Monroe, N.C. and Owen H. Gusler and Wallace L. Gusler, both of Collinsville; four sisters, Linda G. Spicer of Pelham, N.C., Ellen G. Nash of Collinsville, Christine G. Ingram of Rocky Mount and Hattie G. Quesenberry of Martinsville; 11 grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.
She was predeceased, in addition to her husband and parents, by one son, Dillard Young and two brothers, Herman Gusler and Jessie Gusler.
The funeral will be held at 2 p.m. Wednesday at Barker Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Gary Milstead and the Rev. Daryl Joyce officiating. Interment
will follow at Mountain View cemetery.

George Moore
DANVILLE, Va. - George T. Moore, 62, of 3368 Mount Cross Road, died Monday, Oct. 1, 2001, after three months of declining health.
Born Jan. 7, 1939, in Pittsylvania County, he was a son of Thomas A. and Bessie M. Moore.
He was married
Sept. 16, 1988, to Bettie J. Taylor, who survives. He served in the U.S. Marine Corps for eight years and worked for Pepsi Bottling Company for 25 years. He later worked at Hiatt’s Used Auto Parts prior to his retirement due to health. He was of the Baptist faith.
Survivors, in addition to his wife of the residence, include one son, Thomas Stanley Moore of the residence; two daughters, Dawn Marie Moore of Dry Fork and Anita Haycraft of Arizona; two stepdaughters, Janet M. Taylor of Danville and Dixie E. Wilkins of Axton; eight grandchildren; and one sister, Helen M. Moore of Danville.
He was predeceased, in addition to his parents, by two sisters, Lucille Smith and Marie Gregory and two brothers, Gilmer Glenwood Moore and Raymond Hale Moore.

DANVILLE, Va. - Stanley Andrew Olsen, 91, of 2225 Ridge Road Danville, Virginia, died Monday, October 01, 2001 at Danville Regional Medical Center - Danville, Virginia.
Born May 3, 1910 in Philadelphia, PA., he was the son of Edward A. Olsen and Sarah Hartzell Olsen - Both deceased.
He was married
to Lydia Krumbolot Olsen - Deceased. He worked for Porter Cable Production as an engineer in Syracuse, New York. He was a member of the Society of Automotive Engineers. He was a former member of the New Berean Baptist Church of Philadelphia where he was a choir member and Church Treasurer. He was a member of Mount Hermon Baptist Church.
Survivors include Son, Norman Olsen of Seneca, SC; Daughter-In-Law, Catherine M. Olsen of Seneca, SC and Grandson, Davis S. Olsen of Seneca, SC.
The fuenral will be held Thursday, October 4, 2001 at 5:30 p.m. at Barker Funeral Home, Inc., Danville, Virginia with the Rev. Don Davidson officiating.
The graveside services will be 11:00 A.M. Saturday morning at Arlington cemetery in Drexil Hill, Pa.

Lillian Ragle
DANVILLE, Va. - Lillian Wilkerson Ragle, 93, formerly of 17 Milton Ave., died Tuesday, Oct. 2, 2001, at Piney Forest Health Care Center, where she had been a resident for six months.
Born March 20, 1908, in Danville, she was the daughter of John E. Wilkerson and Mary Hughes Wilkerson.
She was married
Dec. 23, 1925, to Theodore Ragle, who predeceased her April 6, 1990. She lived in Danville all of her life and worked for Dan River Inc. for 30 years prior to her retirement at the age of 62. She was a member of Calvary Baptist Church.
Survivors include two sons, Theodore Robert Ragle and John W. Ragle, both of Danville; one granddaughter; two great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild.
The funeral will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday at Swicegood Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Richard Markham officiating. Interment
will follow at Schoolfield cemetery.

CALLANDS, Va. - Barry Blaine Reynolds, 50, of 101 Turkeycock Mountain Road, died Tuesday, Oct. 23, 2001, at the residence.
Born April 28, 1951, in Pittsylvania County, he was a son of Betty McNeely Reynolds, who survives, and Howard Aubrey Reynolds. He was a member of County Line Christian Church.
Survivors, in addition to his mother of the residence, include two daughters, Crystal Blayne Reynolds of Danville and Carmen Marie Reynolds of Chatham; three sisters, Carolyn Koger of Martinsville, Diana Blick of Emporia and Margaret Harvey of Danville; and one brother, Donald Reynolds of Martinsville.
The funeral will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday at Scott Funeral Home with Pastor Don Reynolds officiating. Interment
will follow at County Line Christian Church cemetery.

Gene Ridgeway
HALIFAX, Va. - Gene Wesley Ridgeway, 61, of 1029 Snead Lane, died Sunday, Sept. 30, 2001, at Halifax Regional Hospital.
Born Feb. 25, 1940, in Halifax County, he was a son of Roy Thomas Ridgeway Sr. and Mary Henderson Ridgeway.
He was married
to Marion Stone Ridgeway, who survives. He was a member of Centerville Baptist Church.
Survivors, in addition to his wife of Halifax, include two daughters, Carol S. Elliott of Scottsburg and Connie Stone of South Boston; two brothers, Roy Thomas Ridgeway Jr. of Halifax and William Clyde Ridgeway of Turbeville; and two grandchildren.

‘Curley Howard’ Sisk
“Curley Howard” Sisk of 7023 Talent Ct. Sherrills Ford, NC died on October 1, 2001 at his residence. Born February 1, 1930 he was the son of the late Elbert and Nettie Sisk. Survivors in addition to his wife, Gerri Butler Sisk, of the residence, include one daughter, Vicki Sisk Rudder of Danville, Va., four sons Gregory Sisk of Greenville, NC, Gary Sisk of King, NC, Ricky Sisk and Earl “Butch” James of Danville, Va., two sisters, Syble Sisk Patterson and Shirley Sisk Stinchcomb of Shelby, NC, seven grandchildren, three great-grand children, and numerous nieces and nephews. He was predeceased in addition to his parents by his brothers Lee, Paul, Earl, Ireland, Ostelle and Guynelle Sisk. Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, October 3 at 2:00 p.m. at New Bethel Church of the Nazarene, in Shelby, NC. He was employed by “The Net” KTC Broadcasting stations WCSL, WGNC, WLON and WOHS. He was the originator and announcer for The Curley Howard Swap Shop. He has a long history since the age of fourteen in country music on stage and radio. He first started working with “Son of the Soil” which consisted of himself, Grand Ole Opry Star Don Gibson, Jim Barber, Nick Costner and Bill Roberts. He was affiliated with the Grand Ole Opry. In Danville, he performed at the WDVA Barn dance and also has a show on WBTM-TV. He worked with singer/songwriter Clyde Moody, on the Louisiana Hayride. He has traveled with such stars as Don Reno, Red Smiley and Lash Lauruero. He was active in many Civic affairs such as being the chairman of the “March of Dimes.” He was known for his unusual stunts for raising money. DANVILLE, Va. - Virginia Lipscomb Terry, 49, of 746 Stokes St., died Friday, Sept. 28, 2001, in Boulder, Colo.
Born Dec. 29, 1952, in Danville, she was a daughter of Raymond Lipscomb and Mattie Barbour Jones, who survive.
She was married
to Willie Terry, who survives.
Survivors, in addition to her parents and husband, include two daughters, Erica Lipscomb and Angela Terry, both of Danville; one son, Tank of Danville; five sisters, Nancy Lipscomb, Stephanie Najee-Akram, Katherine Lipscomb, Ida Lipscomb and Lisa Stevens, all of Danville; and five brothers, Raymond Lipscomb, Michael Lipscomb, Thomas Lipscomb, Ray Lipscomb and John Jones, all of Danville.
The funeral will be at 2 p.m. Thursday at Bibleway Cathedral in Danville with Apostle L.G. Campbell officiating. Interment
will follow at Highland Burial Park.

Myrtle ‘Tillie’ Williamson
DANVILLE, Va. - Myrtle “Tillie” Grinstead Williamson, 95, formerly of 156 Rocklawn Ave., died Monday, Oct. 22, 2001, at Roman Eagle Memorial Nursing Home.
Born Feb. 15, 1906, in Person County, N.C., she was a daughter of Jake Grinstead and Anna Hamlett Grinstead.
She was married
to Bertram “Red” H. Williamson, who predeceased her in 1985. She lived in Danville for 69 years and had been at Roman Eagle for two years. She was her family’s last surviving member of her generation and was a member of Third Avenue Christian Church, where she was a member of Circle No. 9 and Willing Workers Class. She was also a member of the Widows Club, the Homemakers Club and the Kaufman Brydon Order of the Eastern Star No. 86 for 52 years. She was a hospital volunteer for Danville Regional Medical Center.
Survivors include two daughters, Judith Kendrick and Joanne Williams, both of Danville; one son, Nat Williamson of Gloucester County; four grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.
She was predeceased, in addition to her parents and husband, by one grandson.
The funeral will be held at 2 p.m. Wednesday at Barker Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Fredrick Vicks officiating. Interment
will follow at Calvary United Methodist Church cemetery in Halifax County.
