SOUTH BOSTON, Va. - Judy Gravitt Newcomb, 46, of 111 Wren St., died Thursday, Nov. 1, 2001, at Halifax Regional Hospital.
Born Feb. 14, 1955, in Halifax County, she was the daughter of Lucie W. Gravitt, who surivives and Claude M. Gravitt.
Survivors, in addition to her mother of South Boston, include two sons, Jerry Glenn Duffer of Pelham, N.C. and Christopher Marcus Duffer of South Boston and one brother, Wilford Whitlow of South Boston.
She was predeceased, in addition to her father, by one son, Bryant Keith Duffer and two brothers, Kenneth Gravitt and Charles Whitlow.
The funeral will be held 2 p.m. Saturday at Brooks Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Jim Smith officiating. Interment
will follow at Virgilina cemetery.
The family will receive friends 7-8:30 p.m. Friday at Brooks Funeral Home and other times at the residence.
The family suggests memorials may be made to a charity of choice.

James Palmer
DANVILLE, Va. - James Franklin Palmer, 87, of 527 Holbrook St., died Tuesday, Oct. 30, 2001, at Danville Regional Medical Center.
Born July 30, 1915, in Caswell County, N.C., he was the son of John Palmer and Edna Lawson Palmer.
He was married
to Mildred Allen Palmer, who predeceased him. He was the last surviving member of his family’s generation. He was a custodian for Danville Public School and was a member of Blackwell Baptist Church.
Survivors include a number of nieces and nephews.
The funeral will be held 1 p.m. Saturday at Blackwell Baptist Church with the Rev. Everett Dickerson officiating. Interment
will follow at Oak Hill cemetery.
The viewing will be held 4-8 p.m. Friday at Cunningham and Hughes Funeral Home.
The family will receive friends at the residence.

Beatrice Pell
DANVILLE, Va. - Beatrice Hundley Pell, 84, of 2344 Riverside Drive, died Wednesday, Oct. 31, 2001, at Riverside Health Care.
Born Nov. 4, 1916, in Pittsylvania County, she was the daughter of Thomas Hundley and Mary Sue Hundley.
She was married
July 28, 1934, to Roscoe J. Pell, who predeceased her Feb. 20, 2001. For the past two years, Mrs. Pell resided at Riverside Health Care where she made many new friends and brought smiles to them for some time. Mrs. Pell lived her life in the Danville and Pittsylvania County areas where prior to her retirement she was employed with Dan River Inc. in the inspection department. She was a member of Woodlawn Baptist Church where for over 30 years she taught Sunday School.
Survivors include one daughter, Jean P. Knowles of Virginia Beach; two sisters, Doris H. Nance and Virginia H. Trull, both of Danville; one grandson, Jeff Knowles and wife Jennifer of Virginia Beach and two great-grandsons, Trevor and Mark Knowles.
The funeral will be held 11 a.m. Friday at Woodlawn Baptist Church with the Rev. William C. Blalock officiating. Interment
will follow at Danville Memorial Gardens.

Annie Petty
DANVILLE, Va. - Annie Mae Petty, 77, of 118 Kings Court, died Saturday, Nov. 3, 2001, at Danville Regional Medical Center.
Born Aug. 11, 1924, in Danville, she was the daughter of Edward Royal and Annie Boyd Royal.
She was married
to Jeremiah Petty, who predeceased her. She was employed at Southern Processors for many years prior to her retirement.
Survivors include one daughter, Mary Puryear of Danville; one son, Bobby Royal Sr. of Vineland, N.J.; seven grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.
She was predeceased, in addition to her parents and husband, by ten siblings and one grandchild.
The funeral will be held 2 p.m. Wednesday at Fisher and Watkins Funeral Home with the Rev. Lovelle Maxwell Jr. officiating. Interment
will follow at Highland Burial Park.
The family will be at the residence of her daughter, 110 Huntington Place in Danville.

Victor Pool
DANVILLE, Va. - Victor R. Pool, 24, of 6099 Mount Cross Road, died Sunday, Oct. 28, 2001, in Pittsylvania County.
Born Dec. 4, 1976, in Danville, he was the son of Wadell Pool and Eunice James Pool, who survive.
He was a truck driver for James Coles Trucking Co. and was a member of Mt. Freeman Baptist Church.
Survivors, in addition to his parents, include two brothers, Bobby R. Pool and Troy A. Pool, both of Danville.

Edward ’Don’ Rash Jr.
CHRISTIANSBURG, Va. - Edward Donald “Don” Rash Jr., 48, of 595 Republic Road, died Nov. 1, 2001, at the residence after ten years of declining health.
Born Sept. 22, 1953, in Danville, he was the son of Edward Donald Rash Sr., who survives and Jean Wells Rash.
He lived all of his life in Pittsylvania County and Christiansburg. He was a graduate of Tunstall High School Class of 1971. He was employed by Tek-Tow Towing service in Blacksburg prior to a decline in health. He was a member of the Swansonville United Methodist Church.
Survivors, in addition to his father of Danville, include two brothers, Rick W. Rash of Christiansburg and Jeffrey L. Rash of Danville.
The graveside service will be held 4 p.m. Friday at Swansonville United Methodist Church cemetery with the Rev. Randy Williams officiating.
The family will receive friends at his father’s residence, 529 Indian Trail Road in Danville.

Kathleen Riddle
CHATHAM, Va. - Kathleen Reynolds Riddle age 76 of 377 Fairview Rd. Chatham, died October 30, 2001 at the Danville Regional Hospital. Mrs. Riddle was born April 19, 1925 in Gretna, Virginia. She was the daughter of the late Posie Daniel Reynolds and Nannie Yeatts Brumfield. She is survived by her husband Guy Phillip Riddle of Chatham; one daughter, Patricia Riddle Moore and her husband Bruce of Little Rock, AR; two sons, Daniel Phillip Riddle and his wife Joyce of Fairmount, GA, Norman Yeatts Riddle and his wife Karen of Chatham; three grandsons, Christopher Leighton Moore of Ann Arbor, MI, Anthony Phillip Moore Moore of Coral Gables, FL, Ian Patrick Moore of Little Rock, AR; three granddaughters, Kathleen Olivia Moore and Elizabeth Lynn Moore of Little Rock, AR, Shelayne Marie Riddle of Chatham; one great grandson, Tyler MacKenzie Moore of Little Rock, AR. She was a member of Oak Grove Christian Church.
Funeral services will be conducted Saturday, Novmeber 3, 2001 at 2:00 P.M. from the Oak Grove Christian Church by the Ministers Frank Fuller, John Shields and Butch Dillinger. Interment

Bernice Sutton
DANVILLE, Va. - Bernice Eanes Sutton, 62, of 265 Angie Road, Danville, Virginia, died Friday, Novmeber 2, 2001, at 265 Angie Road.
Born November 13, 1938 in Pittsylvania County, VA, she was the daughter of the late Oscar Forest Eanes and Ila Haymore Eanes, who survives.
She was married
June 10, 1959, to Charles Leland Sutton, who survives of 265 Angie Road, Danville, VA. She was a member of Christian Heritage Church and she attended Riveroak Church of God. She lived in Norfolk, Virginia and a resident of Danville since 1973. She was retired from Owens-Brockway where she worked as a supervisor.
Survivors include husband Charles Leland Sutton of the residence; mother Ila Haymore Eanes of Danville, VA; daughter Lisa L. Sutton of Danville, VA; sister Eva E. Wrischnik of Danville, VA and grandson Kyle Scott Sutton of Danville, VA.
She was predeceased by a son, Leland Scott Sutton who died May 20, 1985.
The funeral will be held Sunday, 11-4-01, at 3:00 P.M. at Wrenn-Yeatts North Main Chapel with the Reverend Tim Nuckles, Reverend Albert Moser & Rev. Tom Bailey officiating. Interment

Rosa Talley
VIRGILINA, Va. - Rosa Bell Talley, 97, of 5056 Red Bank Road, died Saturday, Nov. 3, 2001, at Twin Oakes Convalescent Home.
Born May 16, 1904, in Granville County, N.C., she was a member of Amis Chapel Baptist Church where she was a charter member of the WMU. She was a member of the Rustburg AARP and was a homemaker.
Survivors include sister-in-law Sally Morgan Talley of Virgilina and a number of nieces and nephews.
The funeral will be held 2 p.m. Monday at Amis Chapel Baptist Church with the Rev. Allen D. Coker and the Rev. Malvin Tuck officiating. Interment
will follow at the church cemetery.

Ruben Wallace
DRY FORK, Va. - Ruben Lee Wallace, 70, of 132 Stowe Lane, died Tuesday, Oct. 30, 2001, at the residence after over two years of declining health.
Born April 24, 1931, in Pittsylvania County, he was the son of George Lee Wallace and Virginia Yates Wallace.
He was married
Dec. 12, 1952, to Hope Jeanette Adkins Wallace, who predeceased him Sept. 10, 1988. He had lived most of his life in Dry Fork and was retired from Dan River Mills after over 35 years in the Riverside Division. He was of the Methodist faith.
Survivors include two brothers, Kenneth Wallace and Dennis Wallace, both of Dry Fork, and four sisters, Evelyn W. Oakes of Ruffin, N.C., Virginia W. Jones of Blairs, Mildred W. Emerson of Dry Fork and Betty W. Marshall of Roanoke.
He was predeceased, in addition to his parents, by one brother, George David Wallace; a twin sister, Thelma Virginia Wallace, and one sister, Margaret W. Pruitt.

Neal Womack
CHATHAM, Va. - Neal Henry Womack, 78, of 856 Callands Road, died Wednesday night, Oct. 31, 2001, at Danville Regional Medical Center.
Born April 8, 1923, in Pittsylvania County, he was the son of Charlie and Lou Ella Fitzgerald Womack.
He was first married
to Ruth Keesee Womack, who predeceased him and later married
Ruby Womack, who survives. He was self-employed as a produce salesman and was a member of Oak Grove Baptist Church where he sang with the male chorus.
Survivors, in addition to his wife of the residence, include one son, Larry Womack of Chatham; one daughter, Jeannette Womack Gunn of Danville; one stepdaughter, Shirley Hodnett of Gretna; one stepson, Fred Jr. Robertson of Gretna; three grandchildren; four great-grandchildren and two stepgrandchildren.
The funeral will be held 3 p.m. Sunday at Oak Grove Baptist Church with the Rev. Ralph Cypress officiating. Interment
will follow at Floral Hills Memorial Park.
