Don Haney
RINGGOLD, Va. - Mr. William Donald (Don) Haney of 2537 Sandy Creek Church Road, Ringgold, died Monday night, November 5, 2001, at the Danville Regional Medical Center from injuries sustained in an automobile accident.
Mr. Haney was born in Waynesville, N.C., February 15, 1953 and was a son of the late Chester Donald Haney and Lucy Miller Haney.
He graduated from Western Carolina University with a BSMT degree in 1975.
Mr. Haney was a Microbiology Supervisor at the Danville Regional Medical Center from 1977 to 1996. From 1996 until the time of his death, Mr. Haney was a Microbiology Supervisor at Laboratory Corporation of America in Burlington, N.C.
He was a member of Christ Episcopal Church where he was a member of the Vestry. He was also a member of the American Society of Microbiology and the Dan River Trail Association.
Surviving are his wife, Kathryn Burnett Haney of the home, two sons, Zachary William Haney and Benjamin Jacob Haney, also of the home. One brother, Robert Haney of Salisbury, N.C. and one sister, Nina H. Boone of Baton Rouge, LA.
Funeral services will be held 1:00 pm Friday, November 9, 2001 at Christ Episcopal Church on Franklin Turnpike and Ridgecrest Drive, by the Reverend Cleon Ross. Interment
will be private.
The family will receive friends at the church on Thursday night from 6:00-8:00 pm and at other times at the residence.

Janie Hazelwood
SOUTH BOSTON, Va. - Janie Wright Lloyd Hazelwood, 89, of 621 Berry Hill Road, died Nov. 8, 2001, at Halifax Regional Hospital.
Born Oct. 28, 1912, in Halifax County, she was the daughter of Willie Wright and Nannie Jane Wright.
She was first married
to Willie “Pete” Lloyd and later to John Anderson Hazelwood. She was a member of the Church of God.
Survivors include two sons, Andrew Lloyd of Winston-Salem, N.C. and Lawrence Lloyd of King, N.C.; two stepsons, Richard Hazelwood of Halifax and Harvey Hazelwood of Hurt; four stepdaughters, Minnie Powell of Scottsburg, Sally Powell of Roxboro, N.C., Virla Mills of South Boston and Virginia Irby of Halifax; three grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; 31 step-grandchildren; 55 step-great-grandchildren and 37 step-great-great-grandchildren.
The graveside service will be held 1 p.m. Saturday at First Baptist Church of Millstone cemetery with the Rev. Harper Davis officiating.

Cordelia Hereford
DANVILLE, Va. - Cordelia Harper Hereford, 80, of 374 Barrett St., died Tuesday, Nov. 6, 2001, at Danville Regional Medical Center.
Born Jan. 27, 1921, in Pittsylvania County, she was the daughter of Thomas Harper and Matilda Reed Harper.
She was married
to Robert W. Hereford, who predeceased her. She was a retired employee of Dan River Inc.
Survivors include two daughters, Ruth Queen of Oxen Hills, Md. and Ruby Ash of Baltimore, Md.; two sisters, Helen Hicks of Pittsburgh, Pa. and Barbara Edmondson of McDonald, Pa.
The funeral will be held 1 p.m. Saturday at Mt. Freeman Baptist Church with the Rev. James Dillard officiating. Interment
will follow at Floral Hills Memory Garden cemetery.

Lila Kintz
DANVILLE, Va. - Lila Tyson Kintz, 67, of 197 Rocky Knoll Lane, died Tuesday, Nov. 6, 2001, at Danville Regional Medical Center.
Born May 21, 1934, in Greenville, N.C., she was the daughter of Bruce Carroll Tyson and Lila Taylor Tyson.
She was married
Aug. 25, 1956, to G. Jerome Kintz, who survives. She lived in Greenville, S.C. and Danville from 1974 to the present. She was a graduate of Duke University where she earned her B.A. in 1956. She was on the Board of Directors of the friends of the Duke Library for 2 years. She was also active with the Cub Scouts for many years.
Survivors, in addition to her husband of the residence, include three sons, Douglas Kintz of Tucker, Ga., Gregory Kintz of Mountain View, Calif. and Bruce Kintz of Greenville, N.C.; one daughter, Jean Overcash of Chapel Hill, N.C. and seven grandchildren.
She was predeceased, in addition to her parents, by one brother, Bruce Carroll Tyson Jr.
Funeral arrangements are incomplete.

Alma LaCroix
BEDFORD, Va. - Alma Parrish LaCroix, 84, of Bedford, died Wednesday, Nov. 7, 2001, at Bedford Memorial Hospital.
Born Oct. 20, 1917, in Danville, she was the daughter of Jesse B. Parrish and Pearl Mae Scearce Parrish.
She was married
to Arthur E. LaCroix, who predeceased her. She was a member of Bedford Baptist Church, Bedford Lioness Club, Otterburn Garden Club and was an avid Bridge player.
Survivors include two sisters, Naomi P. Disher of Charleston, S.C. and Mamie P. Southard of Danville.
She was predeceased, in addition to her husband and parents, by four brothers and one sister.
The graveside service will be held 1:30 p.m. Sunday at Mt. View cemetery in Danville with Dr. Joey Faucette officiating.

James ‘Chick’ Layne Jr.
DANVILLE, Va. - James William “Chick” Layne Jr., 78, of 1157 Halifax Road, died Friday, Nov. 9, 2001, at Piney Forest Health Care Center after one year of declining health and two weeks at Piney Forest Health Care.
Born Feb. 3, 1923, in Pittsylvania County, he was the son of James William Layne Sr. and Edna Brandon Layne.
He was married
Aug. 15, 1947, to Mary Lee Hilliard Layne, who survives. He was a member of Glenwood Memorial Baptist Church where he served as a Deacon, Chairman of the Board of Deacons, Sunday school teacher and on various other committees. He was a member of the National Association of Letter Carriers. He lived his entire life in the Glenwood community and was retired from the United States Postal Service where he worked as a letter carrier. He was a veteran of the U.S. Air Force during World War II, having served in Pakistan and Calcutta.
Survivors, in addition to his wife of the residence, include one daughter, Lisa Kaye Layne of Ringgold; two brothers, Charles H. Layne of Greensboro, N.C. and Donald E. Layne of Danville; two sisters, Mozelle L. Lineberry of Greensboro, N.C. and Marie L. Shelton of Winston-Salem, N.C.; three grandchildren and one great-grandchild.
The graveside service will be held 4 p.m. Sunday at Mountain View cemetery with the Rev. Carl Burger officaiting. Interment
will follow with military honors by the American Legion Post 1097.
The family will receive friends 6:30-7:30 p.m. Saturday at Wrenn-Yeatts North Main Chapel and other times at the residence.

DANVILLE, Va. - Iva Mae McMillan, 79, of 748 Colquohoun St., died 12:25 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 8, 2001, at Piney Forest Health Care Center.
Born Jan. 28, 1922, in Henry County, she was the daughter of Samuel J. McMillan and Flora Simpson MacMillan.
She lived most of her life in Danville and Henry County, residing in Danville since 1942.
She was employed with Danville Memorial Hospital cafeteria prior to her retirement in 1986. She was of the Baptist faith.
Survivors include one daughter, Edna Barker of Axton; one sister, Hattie Bray of Cascade; nine grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.
She was predeceased, in addition to her parents, by two grandchildren.
The graveside service will be held 2 p.m. Saturday at Danville Memorial Gardens with the Rev. Robert Vermillion officiating.

Dorothy Mitchell
DANVILLE, Va. - Dorothy Holt Craddock Mitchell, 79, of 9 Laurel Ave., died 9 a.m. Monday, Nov. 5, 2001, at Riverside Health Care Center.
Born Sept. 16, 1922, in Martinsville, she was the daughter of George H. Craddock and Ida Craddock.
She was married
to Daniel Coleman Mitchell, who survives. She lived most of her life in Danville. She worked at at Dan River Mills and was a member of Sheldon Baptist Church. She had been a patient at Riverside Health Care since Oct. 1, 2001.
Survivors, in addition to her husband, include one daughter, Rose Wade Flanagan of Houston, Texas; one brother, Ernest Craddock of Reidsville, and one grandchild.
She was predeceased, in addition to her parents, by one sister, Opal Campbell.
The funeral will be held 11 a.m. Thursday at Swicegood Chapel with the Rev. Kenneth Hall officiating. Interment
will follow at Danville Memorial Gardens.

Solomon ‘Bob’ Murray
DANVILLE, Va. - Solomon “Bob” Murray, 69, of 709 Betts St., died Wednesday, Nov. 7, 2001, at Danville Regional Medical Center.
Born March 22, 1932 in Reidsville, N.C., he was the son of Thomas Murray and Ella Graves Murray.
He was a painter.
Survivors include two brothers, Thomas Murray Jr. and George Murray of Danville and three sisters, Ella Mae Lartey, Elizabeth Kernoble and Mary Jean Poole, all of Danville.
The funeral will be held 2 p.m. Saturday at L.H. Brooks and Bro. Funeral Home Chapel with Elder Nelson Luck officiating. Interment
will follow at Danville Memorial Gardens.

Raymond Myrick
DANVILLE, Va. - Raymond Revere Myrick, 73, of 156 Forsetdale Drive, Apt. 103, died Monday, Nov. 5, 2001, at Danville Regional Medical Center after several years of declining health.
Born Feb. 25, 1928, in Danville, he was the son of John Wesley Myrick and Amanda Emiline Wall Myrick.
He lived his life in Danville and was employed in the research division of Dan River Inc. prior to his retirement. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army in the Transportation Division.
Survivors include one sister, Margaret May Terrell of Danville.
He was predeceased, in addition to his parents, by three brothers, Jim Myrick, Robert T. Myrick and David L. Myrick and one sister, Minevera Myrick.
The graveside service will be held 3 p.m. Thursday at Highland Burial Park with the Rev. Betty Marshall officaiting. Military honors will be performed by American Legion Post 1097.
The family will receive friends at at the residence of Janet Myrick, 132 Wood Ave. in Danville.
