Robert ‘Bobby’ Hill
DANVILLE, Va. - Robert Lee “Bobby” Hill, 67, of 788 Arnett Blvd., died Monday, Nov. 19, 2001, at Danville Regional Medical Center after four months of declining health and four days in the hospital.
Born March 22, 1934, in Pittsylvania County, he was a son of William Henry Hill Sr. and Maude Dillon Hill.
He was married
Nov. 24, 1960, to Betty Oakes Hill, who survives. He was a member of Kentuck Baptist Church and attended Emmanuel Wesleyan Church. He had been a resident of Danville since 1959. He was retired from Dan River Mills Inc., where he worked as a supervisor in the yarn dye lab. He was a member of the Dan River Retired Workers Club. He was a veteran, having served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War.
Survivors, in addition to his wife of the residence, include one stepsister, Doris Owens Morrison of Pensacola, Fla. and one stepbrother, Ray Owens of Slydell, La.
He was predeceased, in addition to his parents, by one brother, William H. Hill Jr.
The funeral will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday at Wrenn-Yeatts North Main Chapel with Pastor Wade Rogers officiating. Interment
will follow at Danville Memorial Gardens.
The family received friends from 7-8:30 p.m. Tuesday at Wrenn-Yeatts North Main Chapel and other times at the residence of David Wyatt, 780 Arnett Blvd.

Lozelle Holt
ATLANTA - Lozelle Lanum Holt, 72, died Sunday, Nov. 18, 2001, after a short period in the hospital.
Born July 6, 1929, in Covington, Va., she was a daughter of Dennis and Atlas Lanum.
Survivors include her husband, Forest Holt of the residence; one daughter, Val Moore of Atlanta; one son, Dennis Holt of Nashville, Tenn.; one sister, Lawanda Fitzgerald of Covington, Va.; and two brothers, Gerald Lanum of Virginia Beach, Va. and Larry Lanum of Danville, Va.
She was predeceased by two sisters, Carol Wade and Faye Braden.
The graveside service will be held Friday at Alleghany Memorial Park in Covington, Va.
Lucy Hughey
DANVILLE, Va. - Lucy S. Hughey, 87, of 186 Park Circle, died Wednesday, Nov. 21, 2001, at Skyline Manor Nursing Home in Floyd.
Born Dec. 8, 1913, in Danville, she was the daughter of Etta Nichols Hughey.
She was born in Schoolfield and was a graduate of Brosville High School. She worked for Dan River Inc. as a timekeeper for 35 years, prior to her retirement in 1960. She was a member of Schoolfield Baptist Church where she taught Sunday school, was a member of the WMU and played the piano. She had been a resident of Skyline Manor Nursing Home since Sept. 20, 2001.
She was the last surviving member of her generation.
Survivors include friends Whitey and Sally H. Akers of Danville.
The graveside service will be held 11 a.m. Saturday at Highland Burial Park in Danville with the Rev. David R. Turbyfill officiating.
The family will receive friends 7-8:30 p.m. Friday at Swicegood Funeral Home.

Edith Jeter
SALEM, Va. - Edith Jeter, 75, formerly of 626 S. Market St., died Monday, Nov. 19, 2001, at the Brian Center in Yanceyville, N.C.
Born in Burkeville, she was the daughter of Joseph Lee Epps and Effie Garnes Epps.
She was married
to Felton W. Jeter Sr., who predeceased her.
Survivors include three daughters, Mildred Teresa Coleman of Fairfax, Lisa A. Jeter of Washington, D.C. and Rosemary Coleman of Danville; four sons, Joseph Lee Jeter and Marlo A. Jeter, both of Salem, Lewis M. Jeter of Albany, Ga. and Felton W. Jeter Jr. of Chester; seven grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.
The funeral will be held 2 p.m. Saturday at Fisher and Watkins Funeral Home Chapel. Interment
will follow at Danville Memorial Gardens.
The family will receive friends 7-8 p.m. Friday at the funeral home and other times at the residence of her daughter, 241 Searcy St. in Danville.

Edna McCubbins
CASCADE, Va. - Edna Patterson McCubbins, 96, formerly of Cascade, died Monday, Nov. 19, 2001, at Roman Eagle Memorial Home after six years of declining health and six years at Roman Eagle.
Born Sept. 22, 1905, in Franklin County, she was a daughter of Walter Patterson and Estelle Draper Patterson.
She was married
Dec. 25, 1924, to Sammie Carr McCubbins, who predeceased her Feb. 26, 1992. She lived all of her life in Cascade, where she was a homemaker. She was an active member of Willis Memorial Baptist Church as long as her health permitted. She served with the WMU and GAs of the church. She served as pianist and choir member and with the community 4H club.
Survivors include two daughters, Carolyn M. Turner of Ringgold and Mary M. Evans of Pelham, N.C.; one sister, Agnes P. Turner of Bassett; four grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; and five great-great-grandchildren.
She was predeceased, in addition to her husband and parents, by one daughter, Doris M. Barber; one son, Samuel C. McCubbins; and two brothers, Harry Patterson and Homer Whitlow.
The funeral will be held at 2 p.m. Wednesday at Wrenn-Yeatts Westover Chapel with the Rev. Haywood Alcorn and the Rev. Bill Preslar officiating. Interment
will follow at Danville Memorial Gardens.

Angie Montgomery
DANVILLE, Va. - Angie M. Kinder Montgomery, 93, formerly of 683 Park Avenue, died Wednesday, November 21, 2001, at Roman Eagle Memorial Home after several months of declining health and residing at Roman Eagle since Jan. of 2000.
Born July 24, 1908 in Franklin County, Virginia, she was the daughter of the late Nervie E. Mason and the late Allie Jane Young.
She was first married
to Fred E. Kinder, who died 07-07-56 and later to Thomas Feilds Montgomery in 1978 who also predeceased her in 1992. She was a member of Fairview United Methodist Church. She was a member of the Henry Hardy Bible Class and the Ruth Circle. She lived her entire life in Danville, Virginia. She was retired from L. Herman and Thalhimers where she worked as a salesperson. She was a member of the Thalhimers Alpha Club.
Survivors include Daughter Patsy Kinder Watlington and Son in Law John M. Watlington of Yanceyville, NC; Daughter in Law Audrey D. Kinder of Danville, Va.; Granddaughter Lisa O. Watlington; Grandson J. Kinder (Ken) Watlington and Wife Lori; Great Granddaughters Rachel Ann and Hannah Carol Watlington all of Yanceyville, NC. She is also survived by the children and family members of Audrey D. Kinder and children and family member of Thomas Fields Montgomery.
She was predeceased by her son Jimmie E. Kinder who died on April 6, 2001.
The funeral will be held Friday, November 23rd at 2:00 p.m. from the Wrenn-Yeatts Westover Chapel by the Reverend Dr. Tom Evans, Rev. Brian Faggert and Ken Watlington. Interment
will be held at Highland Burial Park.

Peter Nguyen
READING, Pa. - Peter (Phu) Nguyen, 34, of 231 N. 9th St., formerly of Danville, Va., died Thursday, Nov. 8, 2001, in Vietnam.
He was the son of Thu and Qui Nguyen, who survive.
He was married
to Ann (Hien), who survives. He was the former owner of Nail Art in Piney Forest Shopping Center. He was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church while living in Danville.
Survivors, in addition to his parents of Reading and wife of Reading, include one son, Kevin (Phi) of Reading; two sisters, Lon and Anh; and four brothers, Thai and Dunk, both of Reading, and Lap and Trung, both of Vietnam.
Eliza Payne
DANVILLE, Va. - Eliza Bradner Payne, 83, formerly of Whitmell School Road, died Friday, Nov. 16, 2001, at 313 Richmond Ave. after five years of declining health.
Born Nov. 6, 1918, in Pittsylvania County, she was the daughter of Frank Bradner and Fanny Summers Powell Bradner.
She was married
to Weldon Payne, who predeceased her. She lived most of her life in Pittsylvania County and for three years, she lived in Bridgewater. She was a seamstress and homemaker for many years.
Survivors include two daughters, Linda P. Scarce of Dry Fork and Suzane P. Auckerman of Bridgewater; two sisters, Mary B. Brown of Charlotte and Witcher B. Booth of Danville and five grandchildren.
She was predeceased, in addition to her husband and parents, by two sisters, Pattie B. Collins and Georgia Kessler Collie.
The memorial service will be held 2 p.m. Saturday at Whitmell Christian Church with the Rev. Jack Oakes officiating. Interment
will be private at Boaze Family cemetery.
The family will receive friends following the memorial service Saturday at Whitmell Christian Church Fellowship Hall.

Branford Perkins
HALIFAX, Va. - Branford Lee Perkins, 82, of 1232 Loveshop Road, died Monday, Nov. 19, 2001, at Roman Eagle Nursing Home in Danville.
Born Nov. 23, 1918, in Halifax County, he was a son of Joseph Perkins and Mammie Simmons Perkins.
He was married
to Ruby Worrell Perkins. He was a member of Centerville Baptist Church.
Survivors include one daughter, Glenda P. Setliff of Danville; three sons, Branford Lee “Brad” Perkins Jr. of Stockbridge, Ga., and Kenneth M. Perkins and Timothy W. “Tim” Perkins, both of Halifax; one sister, Bernice P. Spencer of Crystal Hill; four brothers, Wesley M. “Shorty” Perkins of South Boston, Thurman Perkins and Theodore Perkins, both of Halifax and Lawrence Perkins of Alton; nine grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.
He was predeceased, in addition to his parents, by three sisters, Ethel P. Perkins, Ailean P. Stevens and Doris P. McDaniel, and three brothers, Oley Perkins, Howard Perkins and Keister Perkins.
The funeral will be held at 11 a.m. Friday at Centerville Baptist Church with the Rev. Richard Saunders officiating. Interment
will follow at Halifax Memorial Gardens.
The family will receive friends from 7-9 p.m. Wednesday at Powell Funeral Home and other times at the residence.

Doris Pizzulo
DANVILLE, Va. - Doris Patty Pizzulo, age 88, died Tuesday, November 20, 2001, in the Piney Forest Health Care Center.
She was born on December 19, 1912, in Robersonville, N.C. a daughter of William Henry Patty and Clara Savage Patty.
She was the last surviving member of her generation.
Mrs. Pizzulo had worked for a number of years for Blanks, Pollok, Lewis and Wells Insurance Agency and later for Natural Nutrition Health Food with her daughter. She was of the Baptist Faith.
She is survived by a daughter, Donna P. Alverson and husband, Don of Danville, VA.; two sons, Thomas Pizzulo and wife, Rita of Winston-Salem, N.C. and Dennis Pizzulo and wife, Faye of Danville, VA. also six grandchildren, Tommy Pizzulo, Michael Pizzulo, and Anna Miller all of Winston-Salem, N.C., Dana Kennedy of Pulaski, Va., Lonnie Kennedy, Jr. of Naples, Fla. and Leanne LeVesque of Richmond, Va. and four great-grandchildren, Michael McGhee, Alex McGhee, Jessica Pizzulo and Chelsea LeVesque. Also surviving are two nieces, Susan Rago and Robin Jones and three nephews, Darrell, Dane, and David Patty.
Graveside services will be held Friday, November 23, 2001 at 2:00 p.m. from Mountain View cemetery by the Rev. Billy Scearce.
The family will receive friends at Townes Funeral Home Thursday night from 7:00 to 8:30 p.m.

Lucille Walton
DANVILLE, Va. - Lucille Walton, 94, of 222 Old Piney Forest Road, died Sunday, Nov. 18, 2001, at the residence.
Born Nov. 7, 1907, in Pittsylvania County, she was a daughter of James Manley Woody and Maria Carter Woody.
She was married
to Hayward Walton, who predeceased her.
Survivors include one son, James Walton of Danville; one daughter, Mary Ann Boswell of Bridgeport, Conn.; one daughter-in-law, Lossie Walton of Danville; one son-in-law, Robert Boswell of Bridgeport, Conn.; nine grandchildren; and four great grandchildren.
The funeral will be held at 1 p.m. Friday at Tarpley’s Chapel Baptist Church with the Rev. Robert Divens Jr. officiating. Interment
will follow at Floral Hills Memory Garden cemetery.
The viewing will be held Wednesday afternoon at Fisher and Watkins Funeral Home.
