DANVILLE, Va. – Rosanna Chaney, 55, of 124 Fagan Street, died Monday, June 3, 2002, at her residence.
Born February 5, 1947, in Pittsylvania County, she was a daughter of James Henry Wise, who predeceased her, and Essie Mae Walker Wise, who survives.
She was married to Roosevelt Chaney, who predeceased her.
Survivors, in addition to her mother, include three daughters, Vivian Adams, Carolyn Chaney and Lisa Chaney, all of Danville; one son, Curtis Chaney of Danville; three sisters, Inez Anderson, Rosa Henry and Eyvone Crews, all of Danville; seven brothers, Robert Wise of Chatham, Joe Lewis Wise of Java, Willie Wise and Roy Wise, both of Danville, Moses Wise of Martinsville, Keith Wise of Ringgold and Alvin Wise of Cleveland, Ohio.
The funeral will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday at Fisher and Watkins Funeral Home Chapel with Elder Calvin White officiating. Interment will follow at Highland Burial Park.
The family will receive friends at the residence.

Randy Cook-Waller
GRETNA, Va. – Randy Rashaad Cook-Waller was born and died Tuesday, June 4, 2002, in Virginia Baptist Hospital. He was predeceased by a sister, Gabrielle Renee Cook-Waller.
Randy was a son of Susan Cook and Randy Waller. In addition to his parents, he is survived by a brother, Brandon Waller of Martinsville; two sisters, Chante Waller and Mariah Waller, both of Hurt; his paternal grandparents, Karen and Jerry Reese of Gretna; maternal grandfather, Woodrow David Cook of Gretna; maternal great-grandmother, Rosalie Dalton of Prineville, Oregon; paternal great-grandparents, Alex and Dorothy Waller of Hurt.
The graveside service will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday at the Carl O. Moran Memorial Garden with the Rev. Charles Wickham officiating.

Mary Jane Dunn
ROCK HILL, S.C. – Mary Jane Foster Dunn died May 30, 2002, at her residence following a long battle with cancer.
She was born in Yanceyville, N.C. and was married to James Howard Dunn Jr., who survives. She attended Elon College. She was retired from Winthrop University as an Administrative Assistant in the Human Resources Department and previously was a librarian for Mecklenburg County at the downtown and Matthews branches for 14 years. She was a member of the Tirzah ARP Presbyterian Church.
Survivors, in addition to her husband, include two sons, James Howard Dunn III of Matthews and Christopher Scott Dunn of Mooresville; one brother, Hiram Basley Foster Jr. of Yanceyville, N.C.; three sisters, Ann Carroll of Providence, N.C., Rebecca Fuller of Burlington, N.C. and Elizabeth Gunn of Yanceyville, N.C.; and two grandsons.
She was predeceased by one brother, Douglas Foster; one sister, Gladys Rorer; and one grandson.
The funeral service was held at 1 p.m. Monday at Bass Funeral Home.

George Eisele
DANVILLE, Va. – George Joseph Eisele of 1634 Buckhorn Drive, died Wednesday, June 5, 2002, at the Danville Regional Medical Center after a brief illness.
Born July 22, 1926, in Bronx, N.Y., he was a son of the late Charles Joseph Eisele and Dorothy McDermott Eisele.
He was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church.
He is survived by two brothers, William Eisele of the residence and Peter Eisele of Florida.
A mass of Christian burial will be held at 2 p.m. Friday at Sacred Heart Catholic Church with Father Charles L. Breindel. Interment will follow at Highland Burial Park.

RUFFIN, N.C. – C. Woodrow Ellington, 89, formerly of 2889 Guerrant Springs Road, died Wednesday, June 5, 2002, at Brian Center of Eden.
Graveside funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Friday, June 7, 2002, in Happy Home Congregational Christian Church cemetery.
Mr. Ellington was born in Rockingham County to the late Jeff and Carie Martin Ellington. He retired from Dan River Mills and was a member of Happy Home Congregational Christian Church. He was preceded in death by his wife, Lettie Page Ellington.
He is survived by a son, Ray Ellington and wife, Pat of Ruffin, grandson, David Ellington and wife Angie of Ruffin, great-grandson, David Jeffrey "D.J." Ellington of Ruffin, brother, Edgar Ellington and wife, Etta of Reidsville, half brothers, James Ellington and wife Betty Carol of Reidsville, Earl Ellington and wife, Betty Sue of Eden, and Jack Ellington and wife, Rosa of Ruffin.
The family will receive friends at the residence of Ray and Pat Ellington, 2871 Guerrant Springs Road, and also in the church fellowship hall immediately following the service.

Christopher Hazelwood
CASCADE, Va. – Christopher Lee Hazelwood, 24, of 2395 Gravel Hill Road, died Tuesday, June 4, 2002, at Morehead Memorial Hospital in Eden, N.C.
Born December 20, 1977, in Danville, he was a son of Clyde Lee Hazelwood and Mary Wray Hazelwood, who both survive.
Chris lived most of his life in Cascade, Va. and was a graduate of Rockingham County High School. He graduated Magna Cum Laude at Danville Community College. He was a general engineer at American Nursery in Eden, N.C. He attended Hickory Grove United Methodist Church and was a member of Phi Theta Kappa Honor Society.
Survivors, in addition to his parents, include one brother, Andrew David Hazelwood and his wife Adina Hyler Hazelwood of Lynchburg, Va; two sisters, Rachel Elizabeth Hazelwood and Nichole Ann Hazelwood, both of the residence; and one maternal grandmother, Sallie Higgs Wray of Danville, Va.
The funeral will be held at 4:00 p.m. Friday, June 7, 2002, at Hickory Grove United Methodist Church with the Rev. Jon Bowman officiating. Interment will follow at Hickory Grove United Methodist Church Cemetery in Rockingham County, N.C.

Robert Johnson
DANVILLE, Va. – Rev. Robert Johnson, 65, of 369 Martin Ave. died Monday, June 3, 2002, at his residence.
Born August 19, 1936, in Hartford, Conn., he was a son of Lillian Kennedy Johnson, who survives and Robert Warner Johnson, who predeceased him.
He was married to Gloria Swanson Johnson, who survives. He graduated from Harvard University with a master's degree in education and divinity. He was a veteran of the U.S. Air Force.
In Hartford, he was associate minister of Union Baptist Church and served as chairman of the trustee board. He served on the Board of Directors, Operation Push, Treasurer of NAACP in Conn., vice-chairman of Hartford Association of American Baptist churches, and a member of trhe social action committee interdenominational ministerial alliance.
In Danville he was a member of Loyal Baptist Church and of Danville and vicinity ministrial alliance. He was a retired employee of Danville as a personnel specialist, fair housing officer.
Survivors, in addition to his wife of the residence and his mother of Windsor, Conn., include two sons, Robert Edward Johnson Jr. of Los Angeles, Calif. and Peter Gerald Johnson of Harrisonburg; two stepsons, Byron Swanson Bullock of Raleigh, N.C. and Eric Stephen Bullock of Danville; two daughters, Cheryl Johnson Lane of Windsor, Conn. and Joy Denise Johnson of Apex, N.C.; two brothers, Clarence Howard Johnson of Vista, Calif and Douglas Norman Johnson of Hartford, Conn.; and nine grandchildren.
The funeral will be held at 12 p.m. Saturday at Loyal Baptist Church with a military flag presentation performed by American Legion Post 29. Dr. R.J. Lea will be officiating. Interment will follow at Highland Burial Park.
The viewing will be held from 4 to 8 p.m. Friday at Fulton Funeral Home and one hour prior to the funeral. The family will be at the residence.

Doris Jones
DANVILLE, Va. – Doris Mayhew Jones, 45, of 100 Carriage Hill Drive, died Tuesday, June 4, 2002, at Gretna Health Care following seven years of declining health.
Born April 12, 1957, she was a daughter of Percy Ramsey Mayhew, who survives, and Jerleen Ferguson Mayhew, who predeceased her.
She was married on September 15, 1996, to Kim David Jones, who survives. She lived her life in Danville and Pittsylvania County areas. Prior to her decline in health, she was employed with the Pluma Corporation as a secretary and receptionist. She was an active member of Shermont Baptist Church and served as choir leader, church secretary, taught Sunday school and was a member of the W.M.U. She graduated from Dan River High School in 1975.
Survivors, in addition to her husband of the residence and her father, include one brother, Donnie Wayne Mayhew of Danville; and one sister, Donna Mayhew Hankins of Danville.
The funeral will be held at 12 p.m. Friday at Wrenn-Yeatts North Main Chapel with the Rev. Bill Soyars officiating. Interment will follow at Highland Burial Park.

Oscillee Pruitt
DANVILLE, Va. – Oscillee Stanley Pruitt, 73, of 129 Nelson Avenue, died June 5, 2002, at Danville Regional Medical Center.
Born May 24, 1929, in McClure, she was a daughter of Garland Stanley and Mattie Powers Stanley.
She was married to Hansford Shelton Pruitt, who survives, and was of the Baptist faith. She was employed by Dan River Mills, Inc. prior to retirement and spent most of her life in Danville.
Surivivors, in addition to her husband of the residence, include two daughters, Janice P. Ward and Linda P. Scearce, both of Danville; three sisters, Odra S. Lovell of Bedford, Ola F. Trimble of Blacksburg and Evelyn S. Hughes of Providence, N.C.; four grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.
The graveside service will be held at 2 p.m. Friday at Hickory Grove Baptist Church with the Rev. Randy Sudduth officiating.
The family will receive friends from 7 to 9 p.m. Thursday at the residence.

Aubrey Young
DANVILLE, Va. – Aubrey Young, 87, of 378 Jules Street died Wednesday, June 5, 2002, at Danville Regional Medical Center.
Born March 30, 1915, in Pittsylvania County, he was a son of the late Joe Tom Young and the late Lizzie Maude Mayes Young.
He was married to Dorothy Shelton Young, who predeceased him. He lived in Yanceyville, N.C. for several years before moving to Danville. He was a retired tobacco farmer and served in the U.S. Navy during WWII where he received the Victory Medal, the European African Medal and the American Victory Medal. He was of the Baptist faith.
Survivors include five sons, James Brooks Jr. of Richmond, Charles L. Walker of Danville, Leonard G. Young and Ricky M. Young, both of Yanceyville, N.C., Roger G. Young of Elon College, N.C.; two daughters, Tavie Hazelwood of Richmond and Susan Collins of Danville; 11 grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.
He was predeceased, in addition to his wife and parents, by one daughter, Jane Farmer.
The funeral will be held at 11 a.m. Friday at Swicegood Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Daryl Joyce officiating. Interment will follow at Mountain View Cemetery with military honors by American Legion Dan River Post #1097 honor guard.

Roy Grady Bowling
DANVILLE, Va. - Roy Grady Bowling, 68, of 132 Lamberth Drive, died Saturday, Nov. 30, 2002, in Callands after suffering a heart attack while hunting.
Born Jan. 15, 1934, in Pike County, Ky., he was a son of Lon Bowling and Lesta Yeatts Bowling.
Mr. Bowling had lived in Michigan from 1962 until 1985 when he retired and moved back to Danville. He was a member of the National Rifle Association and was of the Baptist faith.
He was a veteran of the U.S. Army.
He is survived by two sons, Roy G. Bowling Jr. of Florida and Martin Bowling of Cincinnati, Ohio; six brothers, Cecil Bowling of Columbus, Ohio, Clarence V. Bowling, Milton Bowling, Earl Bowling, Reed Bowling, all of Danville and Charles Bowling of Blairs; two sisters, Lucille Bartley of Hayes and Doris Taylor of Blairs; a grandson, Matthew Bowling; and a special companion, Arlene Chilton of Danville.
The funeral will be held 2 p.m. Tuesday at Wrenn-Yeatts Westover Chapel with the Rev. Jimmy Hussey officiating. Margaret Colby Compton
DANVILLE, Va. - Margaret Colby Compton, 83, of 2526 North Main St., Roman Eagle Memorial Home, died Friday, Nov. 29, 2002, at the home.
Born June 15, 1919, in South Boston, she was the daughter of Guy Fisher and Wannie Gillispie Fisher.
She lived most of her life in Danville. She was retired from Dan River, Inc. and was a member of North Main Baptist Church. She had lived at Roman Eagle since June 2001.
She was married to Billie C. Compton, who predeceased her Oct. 12, 2000.
She is survived by a son, Steven D. Forbes of Sunrise Beach, Mo. and two sisters, Lucille Hurd of Madison, Ala. and Patsy Adkins of Northwood, Ohio.
The funeral will be held 2 p.m. Tuesday at the Danville Memorial Gardens Mausoleum with the Rev. Dr. Leroy Clack officiating.

Addie Florine Hutson Boslau Gunnells
ALPHARETTA, Ga. - Addie Florine Hutson Boslau Gunnells, 65, of 4810 Minden Chase and formerly of Danville, Va., died Saturday, Nov. 30, 2002, at North Fulton Regional Hospital in Roswell.
Born Jan. 29, 1937, in Pittsylvania County, Va., she was the daughter of English R. Hutson Sr. and Ada Gray Hutson.
She lived most of her life in Danville, Va. before moving to Georgia in 1987. She was retired from the Fulton County Board of Education and was a member of Metropolitan Church of God in Duluth.
She was first married to Eugene W. Boslau and then to M. Leon Gunnells, both of whom predeceased her.
She is survived by two daughters, Susan Anne Boslau Pruitt and Bonnie Joanne Boslau Light, both of Alpharetta; a brother, English R. Hutson Jr. of Hampton, Va.; five sisters, Myrtle H. Weaver of Danville, Va., Opal H. Pulliam of Madison, N.C., Frances H. Ferguson of Bassett, Va., Priscilla H. Shealy of Lexington, S.C. and Alice H. Raffa of Sunrise, Fla.; and three grandchildren.
In addition to her husbands, she was predeceased by two sisters, Golden H. Bryant and Gladys H. Brown; two brothers, Theddy Lee Settliff and Otis L. Hutson; and two grandchildren.
The funeral will be held 11 a.m. Tuesday at Swicegood Funeral Home Chapel. Interment will be in Danville Memorial Gardens, Danville, Va.

Connie Lee Owen Sr.
DANVILLE, Va. - Connie Lee Owen Sr., 68, of 167 Godfrey St. Lot 64, died Sunday, Dec. 1, 2002, at Lynchburg General Hospital.
Born June 2, 1934, in Danville, he was the son of Pearly T. Owen and Grace Houchins Owen.
He was a service station attendant at Sherwood Exxon until his retirement and was a member of Fellowship Baptist Church. He was a veteran of the U.S. Navy, serving for 20 years.
He was married to Louise Chumley Owen on March 8, 1987.
In addition to his wife of the residence, he is survived by a daughter, Katherine Gibson of Danville; a son, Connie Owen Jr. of Danville; two stepsons, Dennis Loftis and Kermit Loftis, both of Danville; two stepdaughters, Karen Rogers and Debra Moore, both of Danville; three grandchildren, six step-grandchildren; and eight step-great-grandchildren.
A private memorial service will be held at a later time.
