Raymond M. Phillips, 92, retired colonel and builder
Raymond McDonald Phillips, a retired U.S. Army colonel and builder formerly of Arlington, died June 6 of heart failure at Town & Country Hospital in Tampa, Fla. He was 92.
Born in Sylacauga, Ala., Mr. Phillips graduated from the University of Alabama in 1930 with a degree in electrical engineering and upon graduation as part of the campus ROTC program was commissioned a second lieutenant. He stayed at the university as an assistant professor of physics and later a professor of electrical engineering.
During World War II, Mr. Phillips served in the U.S. Army as a member of the 829th Engineer Battalion. He directed the construction of airfields throughout England, France and Germany and rose to the rank of colonel, commanding a battalion. For his accomplishments, Mr. Phillips received a Bronze Star medal, as well as the Croix de Guerre with the Star of Vermeil from the government of France.
After the war, Mr. Phillips worked for the Army Corps of Engineers, overseeing the electrical construction of several airports, including Ronald Reagan Washington National Airport, LaGuardia Airport in New York and Orly Airport in Paris. In 1955 he became a construction management engineer for the U.S. Postal Service in Washington, overseeing the construction of numerous post offices throughout the United States.
In the late 1940s, Mr. Phillips built two houses on Inge Street in south Arlington, one of which he lived in for 45 years until he moved to Tampa in 1994. In the early 1950s, Mr. Phillips help develop and build 20 houses in the Groveton area of Alexandria off Route 1. A street there, Phillips Drive, is named for him.
Mr. Phillips also helped develop the Yacht Haven community near Mount Vernon in 1955, building 10 houses in that neighborhood. He organized United Construction Co. of Virginia in 1958, serving as the company's president. Following his retirement, Mr. Phillips continued to build and remodel homes in Arlington County, Alexandria and Washington with the help of his brother.
Mr. Phillips is survived by four children, Martha Phillips of Tampa, Margaret Rushing of Spingfield, Sally Cochran of Gettysburg, Pa., and Raymond McDonald Phillips Jr. of Fairfax; and five grandchildren. His wife, Margaret, passed away in January.
Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. Tuesday at Old Post Church at Fort Myer. A traditional military burial service will follow at Arlington National Cemetary.

Michael D. McIntyre, 52, management analyst
Michael David McIntyre, of Fairfax City, died of heart failure Monday at his residence. He was 53.
Mr. McIntyre, a avid gardener, worked as a management analyst for the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs. He graduated from Strayer University with a degree in business administration.
He is survived by his parents, William and Ann McKay McIntyre of Fredericksburg; his wife, Cheryl Shaw Greenway of Fairfax City; three stepchildren, Scott Greenway of Fairfax City, and Donna Zinnecker and William Waters, both of Burke; two brothers, William E. McIntyre Jr. of Florida and Stephen P.McIntyre of Front Royal; two sisters, Karen E. Stewart of Front Royal and Terry Ann Callaghan of the New England region; and two grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held at 11:30 a.m. today at Everly Funeral Home, 10565 Main St. in Fairfax. Interment
will be at Fairfax City cemetery. Visitation was held yesterday.

John R. Mueller, 57, bomb squad officer
John Robert Mueller, 57, of Stanley, a former officer of the Fairfax County Bomb Squad, died of complications from lung disease Jan. 21 at his home.
Mr. Mueller was born in Missouri on June 26, 1943, to Eugene Henry Mueller and Virginia Ruth Bell Mueller.
He married
Frieda Gayle Scrivener in 1971 and was a member of the Retired Police Association and Providence Baptist Church in Vienna.
Mr. Mueller is survived by two sons, Jacob Mueller of Elkton, and Matthew Mark Mueller of Stanley, and a sister, Mary Mikus of Missouri.
Funeral services were held last Thursday at Providence Baptist Church in Fairfax.
Lettie ``Mickey'' Roberts, 89, retired Safeway employee
Lettie ``Mickey'' Roberts, of Dale City, a longtime resident of Washingtonand Alexandria, died Sunday at her home. She was 89.
Mrs. Roberts retired from Safeway in 1978 after 28 years of service. She worked at the Wisconsin Avenue store in the District. She and her husband were avid square dancers during their retirement. They danced with the B's and B's. As a member of Western Presbyterian Church in Washington, she taught Sunday school for 25 years.
She is survived by three daughters, Henrietta Lindsay, of Warrenton, Natalie Carlson, of Dale City, and Bonnie Smith, of Lake Gaston, N.C.; eight grandchildren; eleven great-grandchildren; and three great-great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband of 63 years, John ``Johnny'' Roberts, and her son, William ``Bill'' Roberts.
Visitation will be held from 7 to 9 p.m. at Mountcastle Funeral Home, 4143 Dale Blvd., Dale City, where funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. on Friday. Interment
will be at Ft. Lincoln cemetery, Brentwood.

Sue S. Sperry, 66, real estate agent
Sue Sanderson Sperry of Port Charlotte, Fla., died on Feb 10, at Bon Secours-St Joseph's Hospital, Port Charlotte. She was 66.
Mrs. Sperry was born in Saxton, Pa., in 1937 to Edward E. and Mary Belle Mears Sanderson. She was a 1955 graduate from Holland Patent Central High School in New York, then attended Endicott College in Beverly Farms, Mass. A mother of five, she was an avid equestrian, painter and successful real estate agent. Following her husband, Frank T. Sperry's career of more than 35 years with the Federal Government, they retired from their home in Lorton and moved to Port Charlotte 10 years ago.
Besides her husband of 46 years she is survived by five children: Frank T. Sperry, Jr., of Pattersonville, N.Y., Karin Mulligan of Jefferson Md, Laurel Pearson, of Saco, Maine, Elizabeth Sperry, of Chantilly, and Edward Sperry of Woodbridge; eleven grandchildren; her mother, Belle Sanderson; brother, Dick Sanderson of Falls Church; two sisters, Sally Thomson of Paupack, Pa., and Linda Bell of Concord, N.H.
A memorial service was held at 11 a.m. Monday at the Sperry's residence in Port Charlotte. Interment
will be at Townsend cemetery, Stittville, N.Y. Mrs. Sperry participated in the cornea organ donor/research program. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in her memory to the National Diabetes Society.

Patricia D. Fisher
WINCHESTER. Va. - Patricia D. "Pat" Fisher, 63, of Winchester, died Saturday, April 29, 2000, at a local nursing home.
Born Sept. 29, 1936, in Winchester, she was the daughter of the late Gladden T. and Gertrude I. Dunn.
She was an Avon Representative for 14 years. She retired in September 1998 from Schewel Furniture Co., where she had been assistant credit manager.
She was a member of First Baptist Church and Philia Class of the church.
She is survived by her husband, Raymond C. Fisher, whom she married
Nov. 13, 1994; her former husband, William H. Cooper of Winchester; two daughters, Tracy C. Adams of Stephens City, Va., and Daphne L. Marshall of Dickinson, Texas; a son, Michael K. Cooper of Shippensburg, Pa.; a stepdaughter, Shelby J. Hahn of Gore, Va.; a stepson, Raymond J. Fisher of Winchester; two brothers, Linwood S. Dunn of Winchester and Wade T. Dunn of Hagerstown; 10 grandchildren, and a great-grandchild.
Services will be Wednesday at 11 a.m. at Jones Funeral Home in Winchester. The Revs. Sam Jones and Warren E. Boling will officiate. Burial will be in Mt. Hebron cemetery.
The family will receive friends today from 7 to 9 p.m. at the funeral home.
Pauline L. Feeney
GLEN ALLEN, Va. - Pauline L. Feeney, 90, of Glen Allen, and formerly of Berkeley Springs, W.Va., died Sunday, April 30, 2000, at Health South Hospital, Richmond, Va.
Born June 13, 1909, in Morgan County, W.Va., she was the daughter of the late Tolbert Jerome and Anna M. Keyes Michael.
Her husband, Donald S. Shives, died in 1982.
She was a homemaker.
She was a member of Church of Christ, Berkeley Springs.
She is survived by a daughter, Evelyn Mathias of Glen Allen; a stepdaughter, Dianne Collins of Ruther Glen, Va.; six grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; seven great-great-grandchildren; nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by a son, Donald S. Shives; three sisters, Mildred Little, Marie Mechem and Josie Kidwell; eight brothers, Guy Michael, Charles Michael, Lawrence Michael, Emmitt Michael, Michael Michael Sr., George Michael, Melvin Michael and Elmer Michael.
Graveside services will be held Thursday at 2 p.m. at Michael cemetery, Berkeley Springs. The Rev. John Barker will officiate.
The family will receive friends Thursday from 1 to 1:30 p.m. at Hunter Anderson Funeral Home, 106 S. Mercer St., Berkeley Springs.
Margaret G. Bond
WOODBRIDGE, Va. - Margaret Greenwalt Bond, 90, of Woodbridge, and formerly of Sandy Hook, died Tuesday, May 2, 2000, at Woodbridge Nursing and Rehabilitation Center.
Born Feb. 6, 1910, in Bakerton, W.Va., she was the daughter of the late George S. Sr. and Pearle Muck Breeden.
She was preceded in death by three husbands, Harry Greenwalt Sr., Howard Greenwalt and Mack Bond.
She was of the Methodist faith.
She is survived by six daughters, Mary M. Geisbert of Sandy Hook, Margaret E. Skinner, Josephine Frost and Betty L. Wiggins, all of Woodbridge, Rosie Marie Keefer of Keedysville and Daisy V. Frost of Kearneysville, W.Va.; three sisters, Kathleen Grimes of Rosalyn, Va., Elizabeth Burnsinger of Luray, Va. and Rose Marie Gray of Manassas, Va.; two brothers, Frank J. Breeden and Charles W. Breeden, both of Orange, Va.; grandchildren; great-grandchildren; and great-great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by two sons, Harry Greenwalt Jr. and William Greenwalt; four sisters, Hazel Fastnaught, Jennifer Fastnaught, Dorothy Davis and Dora Greenwalt; and a brother, George S. Breeden Jr.
Services will be Saturday at 11 a.m. at Eackles-Spencer Funeral Home, 970 Washington St. in Harpers Ferry, W.Va. The Rev. Wendell McClellan will officiate. Burial will be in Ebenezer cemetery in Loudoun Heights, Va.
The family will receive friends today and Friday from 7 to 9 p.m. at the funeral home, which will open at 9 a.m. on Friday.
