Archibald F. Newbraugh
MANASSAS PARK, Va. - Archibald Franklin "Frank" Newbraugh, 97, of Manassas Park and formerly of Berkeley County, W.Va., died Thursday, May 4, 2000, at North Hampton Manor in Frederick, Md.
Born March 24, 1903, in Pikeside, W.Va., he was the son of the late Robert Sidwell and Julia Ann McCarty Newbraugh.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Thelma Virginia Sherren Newbraugh.
As a young man, he worked for Mr. Wilson as an orchard hand. In 1924, he began his teaching career with the Berkeley County Board of Education, his first assignment being Mount Carmel School. He continued for 42 years, serving as teacher and principal in a number of different elementary schools until his retirement in 1966 at Gerrardstown School.
He was a member of the former United Brethren Church, later United Methodist Church. He formerly served on the church board of the Inwood, W.Va., United Brethren Church. He also was a member of St. Lukes United Brethren Church in Martinsburg, W.Va.
He was a member of the former Eastern Panhandle Education Association and later the Berkeley County Education Association; Berkeley County Association of Retired School Employees, serving as its first secretary and treasurer; West Virginia Education Association; National Education Association; National Retired Teacher Association; and West Virginia Association of Retired School Employees.
He is survived by a son, Richard Douglas Newbraugh of Manassas Park; nieces; nephews; and cousins.
He was preceded in death by three sisters, Leola Newbraugh Harrison and two infant sisters, Ella Catherine Newbraugh and Cora Blanche Newbraugh; and an infant brother, Roy Lynn Newbraugh.
Services will be Sunday at 3 p.m. at Brown Funeral Home, 327 W. King St. in Martinsburg, W.Va. Pastor Bill Pevy will officiate. Burial will be in Rosedale cemetery.
The family will receive friends today from 7 to 9 p.m. at the funeral home.
Mary V. Earman
ALEXANDRIA, Va. - Mary Virginia Earman, 88, of 108 W. Walnut St., and formerly of Harpers Ferry, W.Va., died Monday, May 8, 2000, at Marian Manor in Stafford, Va.
Born March 9, 1912, in Harrisonburg, Va., she was the daughter of the late Ernest and Mary May Deck Earman.
She retired from the Harpers Ferry, W.Va. Post Office as postmistress.
She was a member of Camp Hill-Wesley United Methodist Church in Harpers Ferry.
She is survived by a brother, Ernest Earman Jr. of Alexandria; and two nephews.
She was preceded in death by a sister, Maxine Deck Earman; and a brother, Randolph N. Earman.
Services will be Friday at 11 a.m. at Camp Hill-Wesley United Methodist Church in Harpers Ferry. The Rev. Douglas Fraim will officiate. Burial will be in Harper cemetery in Harpers Ferry.
The family will receive friends today from 7 to 9 p.m. at the funeral home.

Viola M. Hall
STAUNTON, Va. - Viola May Balser Hostetter Hall, 81, of 76 Hudson St., died Friday, May 12, 2000, at Augusta Medical Center.
Born Jan. 10, 1919, in Rockbridge County, Va., she was the daughter of the late Howard M. and Mary Kate Balser.
She was preceded in death by her first husband, Clarence E. Hostetter.
She retired from the former Genesco L-Greif Companies of Verona, Va.
She is survived by her second husband, Orie F. Hall; two daughters, Joan Hostetter Clinedinst of Hagerstown and Jerlene Hostetter Showalter of Verona; a son, Everett L. Hostetter of Fishersville, Va.; 11 grandchildren; and 14 great-grandchildren.
She was also preceded in death by a daughter, Joyce Hostetter Jolly.
A private graveside service will be Tuesday. The Rev. Jay C. Morgan will officiate.
There will be no public viewing; however, the family will receive friends at her home.
Arrangements are by Henry Funeral Home, Staunton.
June E. Matthews
FALLS CHURCH, Va. - June Elizabeth Matthews, of Falls Church, and formerly of Martinsburg, W.Va., died Saturday, June 3, 2000, at Fairfax (Va.) Hospital.
She was the daughter of the late Joseph and Nellie Jamison Wilson.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Andrew D. Matthews.
She was an executive secretary with B.F.I. for 30 years.
She is survived by a daughter, Debra J. Matthews of Leesburg, Va.; two sons, David D. Matthews Sr. of Orlando, Fla., and Stephen L. Matthews of Middleburg, Va.; a sister, Evelyn Ramsburg of Falls Church; three grandchildren, and five great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by a son, Ronald G. Matthews.
Services will be held Thursday at 11 a.m. at Winchester Avenue Christian Church. The Rev. Jolin Wilks will officiate. Burial will be in Rosedale cemetery.
The family will receive friends Wednesday from 7 to 9 p.m. at Brown Funeral Home, Martinsburg.

Elaine G. Rowe
FRONT ROYAL, Va. - Elaine Greenwalt Rowe, 82, of Front Royal, and formerly of Hagerstown, died Friday, April 14, 2000, in Front Royal.
Born Dec. 10, 1917, in Front Royal, she was the daughter of the late Jesse and Ethel Constance Baggarly Greenwalt.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Benjamin F. Rowe Sr.
She was a member of Front Royal United Methodist Church.
She is survived by a daughter, Barbara Rowe Shetley of Amissville, Va.; two sons, Benjamin F. Rowe Jr. and Ronald E. Rowe, both of Front Royal; five grandchildren; two step-grandsons and four great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by a grandson and a great-granddaughter.
Services were held April 18, 2000 in Prospect Hill cemetery in Front Royal.

Mabel O. Michael
McLEAN, Va. - Mabel O. Michael, of McLean, died Tuesday, April 11, 2000.
She is survived by her husband of 59 years, Norman E. Michael; four children, Jeanne L. Fox, Norma E. Hussey, Anita M. Simpson and Patricia L. Springer; 10 grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren.
Services will be Saturday at 2 p.m. at Wesley Chapel United Methodist Church. Burial will follow in Friendship cemetery, Pious Ridge Road in Berkeley Springs, W.Va.
Visitation will be Saturday at 1:30 p.m. at the church.

Bethany Jackson
WINCHESTER, Va. - Bethany Jackson, infant daughter of Eric Wayne and Tammy Dee Erb Jackson of Winchester, died Friday, June 2, 2000, at Winchester Medical Center.
In addition to her parents, she is survived by one sister, Cara Jackson, at home; two brothers, Reuben Jackson and Joseph Jackson, both at home; maternal grandparents, Wayne L. Sr. and Deborah A. Erb of Spring Grove, Pa.; paternal grandparents, Joe and Barbara Jackson of Sutton, W.Va.; maternal great-grandparents, George and Alice Mae Erb of Hanover, Pa., and Kenneth R. Sr. and Ruby E. Stevens of Berkeley Springs, W.Va.; and aunts, uncles and cousins.
She was preceded in death by one brother, Aaron Paul Jackson, in 1995.
Services will be held Saturday at 2 p.m. at Holiness Church of Jesus Christ, Tabor Road in Berkeley Springs. The Rev. John W. Stevens will officiate. Burial will be in Bethel cemetery, Route 522 South of Berkeley Springs.
The family will receive friends Saturday at the church from 1 to 2 p.m.
