Custis M. Cauble
LYNCHBURG, Va. - Custis Melton Cauble, 95, of Lynchburg, died Tuesday, May 30, 2000, at Camelot Hall.
Born June 26, 1904, in Chesterfield, S.C., she was the daughter of the late Braxton Bragg and Lela Susan King Melton.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Rev. Frank P. Cauble.
She attended Greenville, S.C. Womans College; and Southern Conservatory of Music in Durham, N.C.
She was a music teacher. Prior to her marriage, she played for church services at the Baptist churches she attended. After her marriage, she taught music to students in her home and helped with the music programs in the Lutheran churches her husband served.
She is survived by a daughter, Lela Ellen Cauble of Lynchburg; and a niece.
Services were held Friday, June 2, at 11 a.m. at Bethlehem Lutheran Church. Pastors John D. Herman and Rosemary Backer officiated. Burial was in Virginia Memorial Park, Forest, Va.
The family received friends at Cauble Hall of Bethlehem Lutheran Church.

Jere L. Robinson
ARLINGTON, Va. - Jere L. Robinson, 41, of 1320 N. Vietch St., died Saturday, April 1, 2000, at her home.
Born April 29, 1958, in Chambersburg, Pa., she was the daughter of Thomas F. Sr. and Betty J. Colston Robinson.
She was a 1977 graduate of Chambersburg Area Senior High School; and received a bachelor of science degree in criminal justice from Shippensburg University in 1984.
She was employed as a legal secretary with Obion, Spivak, Mier, McClellan and Neustadt law firm in Alexandria, Va.
She was a member of an independent Christian fellowship in Arlington.
She was a Sweetheart of Omega Psi-Phi Fraternity at Shippensburg University.
In addition to her parents, she is survived by one sister, Alesia Stevenson of Houston, Texas; one brother, Thomas F. Robinson Jr. of Chambersburg; and her fianc, Brandon Bailey of Arlington.
Services will be Saturday at 2:30 p.m. at Thomas L. Geisel Funeral Home, 333 Falling Spring Road, Chambersburg. The Rev. Perry W. Medley will officiate. Burial will be in Lebanon cemetery in Chambersburg.
Visitation will be Friday from 7 to 9 p.m. and Saturday from 1:30 to 2:30 p.m. at the funeral home.
Walter C. Cowley
WINCHESTER, Va. - Walter Vernon Cowley, 81, of 417 Briarmont Drive, died Saturday, April 8, 2000, at his home.
Born Sept. 25, 1918, in Boone County, W.Va., he was the son of the late William Valentine and Virgie Lee Rogers Cowley.
His wife, Mary Louise Kirby Cowley, died June 14, 1991. They were married
in Sept. 1940.
He retired from Halls Motor Freight in Hagerstown.
He was a veteran of the U.S. Army as a sergeant during World War II, having served in the European Theater. He was awarded two Bronze Stars for valor while serving with the 63rd Infantry Division, Company B, 254th Infantry Regiment.
He was of the Baptist faith.
He was a member of Elks Lodge BPOE 867, Winchester Moose Lodge 1283, Winchester Eagles Aerie 824, American Legion Post 21 and VFW Post 2123.
He is survived by four sons, James Walter Cowley of Marshal, Va., Rodney Lewis Cowley and William Franklin Cowley, both of Winchester, and Seibert Daniel Cowley of Cape Girardeau, Mo.; three daughters, Beverly Louise Jankiewicz of Churchville, Va., Stacey Charlene Schucet of Pittsburgh and Mary Lee Cowley of Star Tannery, Va.; a sister, Hettie Francis Brown of Canton, Ohio; 19 grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by a daughter, Barbara Ellen Cowley.
Funeral services will be held Tuesday at 2 p.m. at Grace Evangelical Lutheran Church. The Rev. James Utt will officiate. Burial will be in Mount Hebron cemetery.
The family will receive friends today from 7 to 9 p.m. at Omps Funeral Home, Winchester.

Kenneth G. Schlichter
NORFOLK, Va. - Kenneth G. Schlichter, 85, of 1036 Cambridge Crescent, and formerly of Waynesboro, Pa., and Menno Village, Chambersburg, Pa., died Tuesday, April 11, 2000, at his son's home.
Born Aug. 11, 1914, in Chambersburg, he was the son of the late John B. and Carrie B. Weicht Schlichter.
He was a 1932 graduate of Chambersburg High School; and a 1934 graduate of Shippensburg State Teachers College.
He taught for nine years in Greene and Liberty townships for the Chambersburg School District. Prior to retiring in 1990, he was a field underwriter for Mutual of New York Life Insurance Co., since 1938.
He served in the U.S. Navy in the Pacific Theater during World War II.
He was a member of Otterbein United Brethren in Christ Church in Waynesboro; and King Street United Brethren Church and the Burton Men's Bible Class, in Chambersburg.
He was a member of Waynesboro Lions Club; William Max McLaughlin V.F.W. Post 695; Joe Stickell American Legion Post 15; former North Chapter 739 AARP, all in Waynesboro, and National AARP.
He is survived by his wife, Evelyn A. Ambrose Schlichter, whom he married
April 12, 1941; one son, Dr. K. Jeffrey Schlichter of Norfolk; one sister, Margaretta S. Young of Chambersburg; one brother, C. Graydon Schlichter of Shippensburg; two granddaughters; nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by one son, William A. Schlichter; and two brothers, Lowell W. Schlichter and J. Byers Schlichter.
Services will be Friday at 11 a.m. at Grove Funeral Home, 50 S. Broad St., Waynesboro. Pastor Lester F. Stine will officiate. Burial will be in Green Hill cemetery in Waynesboro.
The family will receive friends at the funeral home Thursday from 7 to 9 p.m.

Marvin E. Armel
WINCHESTER, Va. - Marvin E. "Bud" Armel, 71, of Woodland Ave., died Friday, April 14, 2000, at Winchester Medical Center.
Born April 7, 1929, in Clarke County, Va., he was the son of the late Calvin L. and Clara McDonald Armel.
He was a master wood craftsman and supervisor at Henkel-Harris Co., retiring in March 1991.
He was a musician and a member of the Patsy Cline Museum Committee, Winchester Eagles 824 and Winchester Moose 1283.
He is survived by his wife, Geraldine F. Brill Armel, whom he married
July 27, 1947; two sisters, Myrtle Koon of Winchester and Hazel Bussard of Boonsboro; and a brother, Phillip Armel of Capon Bridge, W.Va.
He was preceded in death by a son, Marvin E. Armel Jr.
Services will be Sunday at 2 p.m. at Jones Funeral Home, 5485 Mulberry St. in Stephens City, Va. The Rev. Donald Jones will officiate. Burial will be in Macedonia United Methodist cemetery in Stephens City.
