Linscott A. Hall
FORT BELVOIR, Va. - Linscott Aldin "Scott" Hall, 86, of Fort Belvoir, and formerly of Chevy Chase, Md., died Thursday, Sept. 16, 1999.
Born in 1913, in McAlester, Okla., he was the son of the late May Schwab and William Linscott Hall.
He attended schools in St. Louis. He entered the U.S. Military Academy at West Point, N.Y., in 1933.
He served in the Coast Artillery (Anti-Aircraft) in Hawaii, Maine and Massachusetts. He was an anti-aircraft officer on Gen. Dwight Eisenhower's staff in London and North Africa early in World War II. He commanded an anti-aircraft battalion attached to the First Armored Division during three Italian campaigns.
A career officer, he transferred to the U.S. Air Force after the war, and served in Air Force and Joint Armed Forces intelligence in Washington, D.C., Tokyo and Paris. His decorations include Army and Air Force Distinguished Service Medals, the Silver Star, the Bronze Star, two Purple Hearts and foreign medals including the Order of the British Empire. He retired as a brigadier general in 1991.
He is survived by his wife, Ann Eldredge Hall, whom he married
in 1937; two daughters, Kathrine Laurie Terry of Keedysville and Robin Hansen of West Bath, Maine; a son, Linscott E. Hall of New Market, Md.; seven grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by a brother, Lt. Gen. William E. Hall.
Services will be Thursday, Sept. 30, at 2 p.m. at The Old Chapel in Fort Myers, Va. Burial will follow in Arlington cemetery.
There will be no visitation.

Lola S. DeHaven
WINCHESTER, Va. - Lola S. DeHaven, 87, of Winchester, and formerly of Pikeside, W.Va., died Tuesday, Sept. 21, 1999, at Welcome Haven Home in Winchester.
Born Jan. 21, 1912, in Oakland, W.Va., she was the daughter of the late Ernest and Lula Bohrer Shade.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Mervin DeHaven, in 1987.
She was a member of Pikeside United Methodist Church.
She is survived by two sisters, Anna McIntire and Esther Kirby, both of Winchester; a brother, J. Ray Shade of Culpeper, Va.; nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by two sisters, Melvie Youngblood and Eva McIntire; and a brother, Virgil Shade.
Graveside services will be Friday at 2 p.m. at the Mausoleum at Shenandoah Memorial Park in Winchester. The Rev. Charles Harless will officiate.
The family will receive friends today from 7 to 8 p.m. at Brown Funeral Home, 327 W. King St., Martinsburg. Visitation also will be Friday at 1 p.m. at the mausoleum.
Clyde W. Meadows
COLUMBUS, Ohio - The Rev. Dr. Clyde W. Meadows, 98, of Columbus, died Thursday, Sept. 9, 1999.
He was born Jan. 3, 1901, in Virginia.
He was preceded in death by his first wife, Mabel Mumma Meadows, in 1979.
He graduated from Huntington College, Huntington, Ind., and from the Lutheran Theologocal Seminary in Gettysburg, Pa.
He was pastor of King Street United Brethren Church in Chambersburg, Pa., for 33 years.
He was chairman of Selective Service Board of Franklin County during World War II and was chairman of the committee that planned the building of the Chambersburg Y.M.C.A. in 1956. He was active in Chambersburg Rortary Club; was a bishop of United Brethren Church; president of Pennsylvania Sunday School Association; president of World Christian Endeavor Union and was song leader and preacher in churches and conferences in other countries.
He is survived by his wife, Phyllis Rike Meadows of Columbus; one daughter, Joyce Kauffman of Bermuda Run, N.C.; three grandsons; five step-grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren.
Memorial services will be Sunday at 3 p.m. at King Street United Brethren Church in Chambersburg.
Effie G. Moorman
WOODBRIDGE, Va. - Effie Goldsby Moorman, 88, of Woodbridge, and formerly of Shenandoah Junction, W.Va., died Thursday, Aug. 12, 1999, at Southern Maryland Hospital in Clinton, Md.
Born May 27, 1911, in Richmond, Va., she was the daughter of the late Charles Dorsey and Susie Ann Eley Goldsby.
Her husband, Jesse Lee Moorman, died in 1978.
She is survived by one daughter, Cornelia L. Moorman of Fort Walton Beach, Fla.; one son, Jesse A. Moorman of Woodbridge; eight grandchildren; and 10 great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by three sisters.
Services will be Wednesday at 11 a.m. at Eackles-Spencer Funeral Home, 970 Washington St., Harpers Ferry, W.Va. The Rev. Douglas Fraim will officiate. Burial will be in Fairview Lutheran cemetery in Bolivar, W.Va.
The family will receive friends at the funeral home today and Tuesday from 7 to 9 p.m.
David Akers
CIRCLEVILLE, Ohio - David Akers, 88, of Circleville, died Wednesday, Aug. 11, 1999, at Berger Hospital.
Born April 6, 1911, in Stanton, Va., he was the son of the late Clarence and Hester Michael Akers.
He retired from National Mine Service.
He is survived by his wife, Gladys Thompson Akers; one daughter, Sandra Edgar of Circleville; two sons, Robert Akers of Hagerstown and David Akers Jr. of Indiana, Pa.; nine grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by a sister, Anna Lee Hines.
Services will be Tuesday at 2:30 p.m. at New Hope Methodist Church in Marie, W.Va. Burial will be in New Hope cemetery.
Friends may call at Wellman Funeral Home in Circleville Monday from 6 to 8 p.m.
Memorial donations may be made to New Hope Methodist Church.
Paul M. Byrne
SPRINGFIELD, Va. - Paul M. Byrne, 59, of 6113 Frontier Drive, died Sunday, July 25, 1999, at 4276 Warm Spring Road, Greencastle, Pa., the home of his mother where he had been visiting.
Born Oct. 15, 1939, in Washington, D.C., he was the son of Mary A. Hurdle Byrne and the late Charles J. Byrne.
He was a 1957 graduate of Wakefield High School, Arlington, Va.
He retired in 1995 from National Institutes of Health, Bethesda, Md., as a scientific instrument maker, after 16 years of service. He received numerous awards for instrument design. He had been previously employed by St. Elizabeth's Hospital, Washington, D.C.
He was a member of Chambersburg Club, Chambersburg, American Legion, Bethesda, and American Field Trials Club.
In addition to his mother, he is survived by one son, Kevin M. Byrne of Springfield, Va.; two sisters, Barbara A. Wells of Marion, Pa., and Mary A. Wilson of Trappe, Md.; three brothers, Charles J. Byrne III of Gaithersburg, Md., Stephen M. Byrne of Shippensburg, Pa., and David A. Byrne of Waynesboro, Pa.; and a number of nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held Wednesday at 6 p.m. at Thomas L. Geisel Funeral Home, 333 Falling Spring Road, Chambersburg. The Monsignor Thomas R. Brenner will officiate. Burial will be private.
The family will receive friends Wednesday from 4 to 6 p.m. at the funeral home.
