Anne M. Rice Trammell
WINCHESTER, Va. - Anne M. Rice Trammell, 80, of Winchester, died Saturday, June 5, 1999, at City Hospital in Martinsburg, W.Va.
Born May 26, 1919, in Berkeley County, W.Va., she was the daughter of the late Edward C. and Florence Dunham Rice.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Gerald Trammell.
She was a nursing assistant with the state of Maryland.
She attended Welltown United Methodist Church.
She is survived by a son, William Santmier of Winchester; two grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by five brothers, Lawrence G. Rice, Edward L. Rice, Eugene W. Rice, Charles L. Rice and Thomas Rice.
Services will be Tuesday at 1 p.m. at Brown Funeral Home, 327 W. King St., Martinsburg. The Revs. Jack Zulcher and Jay Kelchner will officiate. Burial will be in Pleasant View Memory Gardens, Martinsburg.
The family will receive friends Monday from 7 to 9 p.m. at the funeral home.
Mable Bowling
RESTON, Va. - Mable Bowling, 77, of Reston, died Saturday, May 29, 1999, at Fair Oaks Hospital, Fairfax, Va.
Born Nov. 9, 1921, in Manchester, N.Y., she was the daughter of the late Clark Sr. and Maggie Lester Hayre Bowling.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Wilson Bowling, who died in 1977.
She attended Hacker School, Clay County, Ky.
She had been employed with Red Lobster Restaurant, Fairfax, for 20 years.
She was a member of Community Church of God, Dunn Loring, Va.
She is survived by one son, Larry M. Bowling of Warrenton, Va.; two sisters, Bertha Kelican of Charles Town, W.Va., and Willie North of Hebron, Ky.; one brother, Lonnie Bowling of Hamilton, Ohio; one granddaughter and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by one sister, Ailene Bowling, and five brothers, John H. Bowling, Cless Bowling, Walter Bowling, Clark Bowling and Ford C. Bowling.
Funeral services will be held today at 2 p.m. at Melvin T. Strider Colonial Funeral Home, Charles Town. The Rev. Tommy Shelton will officiate. Burial will be in Pleasant View Memory Gardens cemetery, Martinsburg, W.Va.
The family will receive friends today from 1 to 2 p.m. at the funeral home.

Herman J. Whitacre
CONWAY, S.C. - Herman J. Whitacre, 82, of Conway, and formerly of Martinsburg, W.Va., died Monday, May 24, 1999, at his home.
Born Aug. 27, 1916, in Frederick County, Va., he was the son of the late Dailey and Dunie High Whitacre.
He was preceded in death by his first wife, Dorothy Murphy Whitacre; and by his second wife, K. Louise Mauck Whitacre.
He retired from Rubbermaid, where he was a tool and die maker.
He was a member of Calvary Baptist Church in Conway.
He was a member of J.O.U.A.M. Council No. 35.
He is survived by a daughter, Barbara Fridley of Conway; a son, Herman J. Whitacre Jr. of Conway; two sisters, Hilda Grove and Betty Young, both of Martinsburg; a brother, Junior Whitacre of Bunker Hill, W.Va.; 10 grandchildren; 20 great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by a daughter, Joyce Leonard; a grandson, Brian Leonard; a granddaughter, Jackie Lynn Whitacre; and three sisters, Dorothy McDonald, Frances Proctor and Louetta Whitacre.
Services will be Friday at 1 p.m. at Brown Funeral Home, 327 W. King St., Martinsburg. The Rev. Freddie Martin will officiate. Burial will be in Rosedale cemetery.
The family will receive friends today from 2 to 4 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m. at the funeral home.
Clara B. Baker
STAFFORD, Va. - Clara Barbara Baker, 81, of 13 Bob White Lane, and formerly of 531 Jefferson St., Hagerstown, died Sunday, May 16, 1999, in Stafford, Va.
Born Jan. 3, 1918, in Smithsburg, she was the daughter of the late James and Fannie Scadden Lowman.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Robert C. Baker, in 1986.
She was a member of St. Peter's Lutheran Church in Virginia, and formerly of Grace Baptist Church in Hagerstown.
She is survived by four daughters, Kathleen L. Kegarise, Jean M. Linton and Shirley M. Hines, all of Hagerstown, and Mary A. Fry of Stafford; four sons, Richard L. Baker, Robert C. Baker Jr. and Ross E. Baker, all of Hagerstown, and Ronald L. Baker of Ellsworth, Maine; a sister, Edna Shaffer of Cumberland, Md.; 15 grandchildren; and 12 great-grandchildren.
Services will be Friday at 11 a.m. at Minnich Funeral Home, 415 E. Wilson Blvd., in Hagerstown. The Rev. Frederick Donohoe will officiate. Burial will be in Leitersburg cemetery.
The family will receive friends Thursday from 7 to 9 p.m. at the funeral home.
Elizabeth G. Dailey
MIDDLEWAY, Va. - Elizabeth G. Dailey, 86, of Middleway, died Sunday, May 16, 1999, at Winchester Medical Center.
Born Sept. 15, 1912, in Jefferson County, W.Va., she was the daughter of the late George and Clara Glover Gruber.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Arnold W. Dailey Sr.
She was a graduate of Charles Town High School.
She was a member of Middleway United Methodist Church and United Methodist Women.
She is survived by one daughter, Clara K. Carroll of Middleway; two sons, Arnold W. Dailey Jr. and Paul E. Dailey, both of Middleway; six grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by one sister, C. Virginia Pierce, and one brother, Joseph G. Gruber.
Funeral services will be held Wednesday at 11 a.m. at Middleway United Methodist Church. The Rev. Patricia Drake will officiate. Burial will be in Pleasant View Gardens.

Shirley A. Stevenson
VIENNA, Va. - Shirley A. Stevenson, 63, of 214 Locust St., S. E. Vienna, died Saturday, May 8, 1999, at Inova Fairfax Hospital, Fairfax, Va.
Born April 24, 1936, in Hagerstown, she was the daughter of Hilda L. Martin Reed Kennedy of Maugansville, and the late Franklin M. Reed.
She was employed by Boeing Informative Services Inc., Fairfax, as an office administrator.
She attended Grace United Methodist Church when in Hagerstown.
She was a member of Audubon Society.
In addition to her mother, she is survived by three daughters, Tamaran Young Underwood of Kent, Wash., Gina L. Myers of Glendale, Calif., and Mary B. Martinez of Louisville, Ky.; a son, Gregory A. Stevenson of Largo, Fla.; two sisters, Sylvia L. Schmokel of Hagerstown, and Linda Reed Hoza of Milford, Conn.; a stepsister, Joyce Fritz of Annapolis; and three grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by a brother, Robert F. Reed.
Services will be Wednesday at 11 a.m. at Gerald N. Minnich Funeral Home, 305 N. Potomac St., Hagerstown. The Rev. Joseph N. Downs will officiate. Burial will be in Rest Haven cemetery.
