Elizabeth J. Payton
BERRYVILLE, Va. - Elizabeth Judy Ann Payton, 76, of Berryville, died Wednesday, May 5, 1999, at Rose Hill Nursing Home, Berryville.
Born Dec. 2, 1922, in Rappahannock County, Va., she was the daughter of the late John and Nannie Avery Payton.
She was preceded in death by her husband, William Marshall.
She was a homemaker.
She was a member of Supreme Council House of Jacob.
She is survived by two daughters, Pamela Underwood and Betty Underwood, both of Summit Point, W.Va.; two sons, George Wedlock and Harry Wedlock, both of Baltimore; 14 grandchildren; and 18 great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by two daughters, Barbara Payton Wedlock and Mary Curry Wedlock; a son, William Marshall Jr.; three sisters, Dellie Payton, Dorothy Payton and Ruth Payton; and a brother, Roy Payton.
Services will be Saturday at 2 p.m. at Jefferson Chapel Funeral Home, Ranson, W.Va. The Rev. John Green will officiate. Burial will be in Sugar Hill cemetery, White Post, Va.
The family will receive friends Saturday from noon to 2 p.m. before the services at the funeral home.
Douglas D. Taylor
STERLING, Va. - Douglas Dewayne Taylor, 46, of Sterling, and formerly of Charles Town, W.Va., died Monday, May 3, 1999, at Loudoun Hospital Center in Leesburg, Va.
Born Feb. 12, 1953, in Martinsburg, W.Va., he was the son of Reese E. Taylor of Sterling, and Helen Clemmons Taylor of Charles Town.
He was a graduate of Jefferson High School in Shenandoah Junction, W.Va., West Virginia College of Beauty Culture in Martinsburg, and attended hair designing courses in New York City.
He was a self-employed hair designer in Winchester, Va.
He served in the U.S. Army.
He was of the Pentecostal faith.
In addition to his parents, he is survived by four sisters, Shirley Ahalt and Phyllis Hinton, both of Charles Town, Theresa Hoffmaster of Ranson, W.Va., and Sandra K. Taylor of Sterling; and one brother, Eugene Clemmons of Martinsburg, W.Va.
Services will be held Thursday at 2 p.m. at Melvin T. Strider Colonial Funeral Home in Charles Town. Joyce Pritchett will officiate. Burial will be in Pleasant View Memory Gardens in Martinsburg.
Friends will be received at the funeral home today from 7 to 9 p.m.
Hazel K. Stine
RICHMOND, Va. - Hazel Kretzer Stine, 98, of Richmond, died Sunday, April 25, 1999 in Richmond.
Born Oct. 23, 1900 in Keedysville, she was the daughter of the late George Oliver and Mary Kretzer Stine.
She retired in 1965 from Owens & Minor Inc., Richmond.
She was an active member of First English Lutheran Church.
She is survived by one niece, Beverly Inge Christian of Richmond; and two nephews, Austin Winfree Farley of Richmond and George Thomas Bell Jr., of Frederick, Md.
Funeral services will be held Tuesday at 3 p.m. at First English Lutheran Church, Scherer Chapel, 1603 Monument Ave., Richmond. Burial will be Wednesday at 1 p.m. in Fairview cemetery, Keedysville.
The family will receive friends today from 6 to 8 p.m. at Bennett Funeral Home, Central Chapel, 3215 Cutshaw Avenue, Richmond.

Mary L. Andrews
ARLINGTON, Va. - Dr. Mary Lee Andrews, 101, of Arlington, and formerly of Kabletown, W.Va., died Monday, April 19, 1999, at Sunset of Falls Church, Falls Church, Va.
She was born Feb. 21, 1898, in Garland, Texas.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Brig. Gen. John N. Andrews.
She earned a teaching certificate at East Texas State College, a bachelor's degree from New York University, and a master's degree in English and a Ph.D at New York University.
She and her late husband owned and operated a dairy farm in Kabletown. She previously taught English at the University of Maryland and later was an adviser in the Dean's Office assisting returning veterans. She retired as professor emeritus in 1966.
She was a member of Asbury United Methodist Church, Charles Town, W.Va.
She was active in Shenandoah Garden Club; Presbyterian Book Club; Audubon Society; Old Opera House, and the Jefferson County Historical Society. She and her husband took a survey trip around the world for the Fullbright Board of Foreign Scholarships, of which her husband was a member.
She is survived by one daughter, Mrs. William W. Owens of Arlington; one son, Robert H. Andrews of Arlington; one brother, Robert Mills of Temple, Texas; three grandchildren, five great grandchildren, and two great-great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by one son, John N. Andrews III.
Services will be Saturday at 11 a.m. at Asbury United Methodist Church, 110 W. North St., Charles Town. The Rev. James Chambly will officiate. Burial will be in Edge Hill cemetery, Charles Town.
The family will receive friends Friday from 6 to 8 p.m. at Melvin T. Strider Colonial Funeral Home.

Arthur H. Heckman
LYNCHBURG, Va. - Arthur Huber Heckman, 95, of 4900 Fort Avenue, Lynchburg, and formerly of Chambersburg, Pa., died Saturday, April 10, 1999, at Guggenheimer Nursing Home, Lynchburg.
Born Oct. 9, 1903, in Franklin County, Pa., he was the son of the late James M. and Emma Huber Heckman.
His wife, Cecil Foster Heckman, died in 1981.
He retired in 1978 from the former Chambersburg Implement Co., Chambersburg, as a parts salesman. Prior to that he was employed as a farmer at the former Pennsylvania Soldiers Orphans School.
He was a member of Bethel Baptist Church, Amherst, Va., and a former member of Chambersburg Bible Church.
He is survived by one daughter, Marion H. Heckler of Naples, Fla.; one son, John F. Heckman of Lynchburg; one brother, Charles Heckman of Camp Hill, Pa.; eight grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held today at 1 p.m. in the chapel of Thomas L. Geisel Funeral Home, 333 Falling Spring Road, Chambersburg. The Rev. Dave Peters will officiate. Burial will be in Lincoln cemetery, Chambersburg.
The family will receive friends today from noon to 1 p.m. at the funeral home.
