Bette D. Braithwaite
WINCHESTER, Va. - Bette Dickson Braithwaite, 75, of 43 S. Cameron St., died Thursday, Feb. 18, 1999, at Winchester Medical Center.
Born Oct. 4, 1923, in Pittsburgh, she was the daughter of the late William and Alice Haywiser Dickson.
She was a licensed practical nurse at Winchester Medical Center.
She was a member of Market Street United Methodist Church.
She is survived by three daughters, Marilyn Jean Braithwaite of Falling Waters, W.Va., Carole Braithwaite Fortune of Strasburg, Va., and Donna Braithwaite Brown of Winchester; and two grandsons.
Graveside services will be Saturday at 1 p.m. at Mount Hebron cemetery, Winchester.
The Rev. Robert M. Throckmorton Jr. will officiate.
The family will receive friends today from 7 to 9 p.m. at Enders and Shirley Funeral Home, Stephens City, Va.

James T. M. Voorhees
WINCHESTER, Va. - James T. M. Voorhees, 68, of Winchester, died Thursday, Oct. 15, 1998, at Winchester Medical Center.
Born June 17, 1930, in Martinsburg, W.Va., he was the son of the late James William and Pearl Bartles Voorhees.
He was a veteran of the Korean War, having served with the U.S. Air Force.
He is survived by a son, Wayne Allen Miller of Stephens City, Va.; three daughters, Gail Miller Wallace of Winchester, Rebecca Jean Neveils of Live Oak, Fla., and Debora Ann Voorhees of Martinsburg; a sister, Gerry Meadows of Winchester; a brother, Leonard Voorhees of Douglas, Ga.; and nine grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by a son, Ricky Lee Miller; and three brothers, Herman Lee Voorhees, Robert Eugene Voorhees and Clarence Nelson Voorhees.
Services will be Saturday at 10 a.m. at Brown Funeral Home, 327 W. King St., Martinsburg. The Rev. Kenneth Smith will officiate. Burial will be in Rosedale cemetery, with military graveside services by Newton D. Baker Post 896 VFW and Berkeley Post 14 American Legion.
The family will receive friends today from 7 to 9 p.m. at the funeral home.
Dorothy B. Stiff
NEWPORT NEWS, Va. - Dorothy Britton Stiff, 89, of Newport News and formerly of Martinsburg, W.Va., died Friday, Oct. 16, 1998, at The Chesapeake, Newport News.
Born Oct. 26, 1908, in Smyth County, Va., she was the daughter of the late William Nathan and Laura Lee Maiden Britton.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Dr. John Robert Stiff, a Baptist minister.
She received her education at Marion Junior College, Marion, Va.; and Woman's Missionary Union Training School, Louisville, Ky.
She was a member of First Baptist Church, where she taught Sunday School classes for adult women, led vacation Bible school programs for children and provided music on the piano and organ. She wrote a history of First Baptist Church for the years from 1958 to 1983. These years were a part of her husband's ministry. They served churches in Powhatan, Va., Crozet, Va., and Martinsburg, W.Va.
She is survived by three daughters, Dorothy "Dottie" Lee Price of Newport News, Mary Beth Jordan of Collinsville, Va., and Lauranne Jacobs of Rochester Hills, Mich.; a son, John Robert Stiff Jr. of Los Angeles; 11 grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.
Services will be Monday at 11 a.m. at First Baptist Church. The Rev. Christopher D. Fowler will officiate. Burial will be in Rosedale cemetery.
The family will receive friends Sunday from 4 to 6 p.m. at Brown Funeral Home, 327 W. King St., Martinsburg.

Marvin D. Farmer
WINCHESTER, Va. - Marvin Dailey Farmer, 79, of Winchester, died Thursday, Feb. 18, 1999, at Winchester Medical Center.
Born July 14, 1919, in Levels, W.Va., he was the son of the late Harry D. and Mae M. Hott Farmer.
He was a retired manager and machinist for London Fog Manufacturing Co.
He was a member of the National Guard.
He was a member of Calvary Assembly of God Church.
He is survived by his wife, Edna Fraley Farmer of Charles Town; a stepdaughter, Bernice "Becky" Payne of Kearneysville, W.Va.; two daughters, Elizabeth Farmer Smith of Charles Town and Patricia Joyce Brown of Chesapeake, Va.; 10 grandchildren; and 14 great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by a stepdaughter, JoAnn Kave; three sisters, Bonnie Caldwell, Evelyn Abe and Euma Broyles; and a brother, Harry Farmer.
Graveside services will be Saturday at 2 p.m. at Fairview cemetery, Harpers Ferry, W.Va.
Pastor Lee Robertson will officiate.
The family will receive friends today from 7 to 9 p.m. at Jefferson Chapel Funeral Home, Ranson, W.Va.
Della R. Mowrey
CLEARBROOK, Va. - Della Ray Mowrey, 92, of 4810 Martinsburg Pike, died Monday, Feb. 22, 1999, at a nursing home in Martinsburg, W.Va.
Born Nov. 13, 1906, in Brucetown, Va., she was the daughter of the late Frank E. and Bessie May Bennett Fiddler.
She was preceded in death by her first husband, Elmer Schwartz, in 1970; and by her second husband, Robert Mowrey, in 1987.
She was a floor supervisor with C. H. Musselman Apple Plant, retiring after 51 years.
She was a member of Rest United Methodist Church; and United Methodist Women.
She is survived by a brother, Garland D. Fiddler of Clearbrook.
She was preceded in death by a sister, Virginia Price Wilson; and five brothers, Lonnie Fiddler, Asbury Fiddler, Charles Fiddler, Virgil Fiddler and Ezra Fiddler.
Services will be Thursday at 11 a.m. at Rest United Methodist Church.
The Revs. Roger Powell and Debbie Powell will officiate. Burial will be in Rest Church cemetery.
The family will receive friends today from 7 to 9 p.m. at Omps Funeral Home, 1600 Amherst St., Winchester, Va.

Charles M. Hykes
BEDFORD, Va. - Charles M. Hykes, 89, of 931 Ashland Ave., died Sunday, Feb. 21, 1999, at the Elks National Home, Bedford.
Born Sept. 14, 1909, in State Line, Pa., he was the son of the late Albert Edgar and Minnie Grace Daley Hykes.
He was a retired accountant for the City of Hagerstown; He previously was employed by Four State Livestock Sales; H. K. Ferguson Construction Company and Reisner Manufacturing Company.
He was a member of Hagerstown Church of the Brethren.
He was a member of Friendship Lodge 84 AF & AM Hagerstown; Ali Ghan Shrine, Cumberland, Md.; and Hagerstown Lodge 378 B.P.O. Elks, Hagerstown.
He is survived by two sons, Donald M. Hykes of Tavares, Fla., and Richard N. Hykes of Washington, D.C.; four grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by a brother, Orville E. Hykes.
Graveside services will be Saturday at 10 a.m. at Rest Haven cemetery, 1601 Pennsylvania Ave., Hagerstown.
The Rev. Dean M. Miller will officiate.
There will be no viewing or visitation.

BERRYVILLE, Va. - Mary Ann E. Gerber, 55, of Berryville, died Saturday, Jan. 23, 1999, at Rose Hill Nursing Home in Berryville.
Graveside services will be held Tuesday at 2 p.m. in Pine Grove cemetery, Frederick County, Va.
The Rev. James D. Riley Jr., will officiate.
