Bruce P. Cunningham
WINCHESTER, Va. - Bruce P. Cunningham, 37, of 3380 Front Royal Pike, died Friday, Dec. 11, 1998, at Winchester Medical Center.
Born Dec. 21, 1960, in Winchester, he was the son of Arletta M. See Cunningham Shingleton of Hagerstown and the late Phillip P. Cunningham Sr. He was the stepson of George C. Shingleton of Hagerstown.
He was employed as a truck driver for Iron Gate Inc. in White Post, Va.
In addition to his mother and stepfather, he is survived by two sons, Corey Preston Cunningam and Jeremy Bruce Cunningham, both of Bunker Hill, W.Va.; one daughter, Brandy; two sisters, Joyce Ann Anderson of Winchester, and Judy A. Whetzel of Frederick County, Va.; one brother, Phillip P. Cunningham Jr. of Winchester; and fiance, Michelle R. Grove of Winchester.
Services will be held Wednesday at 1 p.m. in the chapel of Shenandoah Memorial Park. The Rev. Allen Youngbar will officiate. Burial will be in Shenandoah Memorial Park.
The family will receive friends at Jones Funeral Home in Winchester today from 7 to 9 p.m.
John C. Schnebly
FALLS CHURCH, Va. - John C. Schnebly, 78, died of pneumonia and complications from multiple sclerosis on Wednesday, Dec. 9, 1998.
Born Sept. 21, 1920 in Hagerstown, he was the son of the late Joseph William and Ruth Elizabeth Chesnut Schnebly.
He was employed by Byron Motion Pictures in Washington, D.C., retiring in 1976 as a lab technician.
He served in the U.S. Navy during World War II, serving on two destroyers, one of which was sunk in the Pacific.
He was a member of Bethel United Church of Christ in Arlington, Va.
He was a member of the National Multiple Sclerosis Society and the VFW.
He is survived by his wife, Marie Schnebly; two sons, Andrew Schnebly and Robert Schnebly, two sisters, Margaret Pickerell of San Diego and Jane Flurie of Hagerstown; and two grandchildren.
Burial was at Quantico National cemetery, Triangle, Va.
Arrangements were by Murphy's Falls Church Funeral Home, Falls Church, Va.
Beatrice L. Lewis
WINCHESTER, Va. - Beatrice L. Lewis, 79, of 110 Lake Wisdom Drive, died Thursday, Dec. 17, 1998, at her home.
Born July 20, 1919, in Burkittsville, Md., she was the daughter of the late Harry L. and Carrie Moss Stevens.
She attended Brunswick Church of God.
She is survived by her husband, Elmer L. Lewis; two daughters, Patricia L. Keister of Harpers Ferry, W.Va., and Sandy Fontenot of Hoffman, Texas; a sister, Mary Howser of Sandy Hook; five grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.
Services will be Monday at 11 a.m. at Donald B. Thompson Funeral Home, 31 E. Main St., Middletown, Md. Burial will be in Pleasant View Church of the Brethren cemetery, Burkittsville.
The family will receive friends Sunday from 7 to 9 p.m. at the funeral home. Friends may call Sunday from 10 a.m. to 9 p.m.

Ray B. Miller
STEPHENSON, Va. - Ray B. Miller, 72, of Stephenson, died Saturday, Dec. 19, 1998, at Winchester Medical Center, Winchester, Va.
Born Dec. 10, 1926, in Berkeley County, W.Va., he was the son of the late Wilson and Lillie Miller.
He was a member of Guiding Light Gospel Center in Winchester.
He is survived by his wife, Betty Petty Miller; five daughters, Rose M. DePew and Maybell G. Miller, both of Bunker Hill, W.Va., Mary A. McFarland of Winchester and Cindy L. Sykes and Bonnie J. Miller, both of Stephenson; two sons, Ray B. Miller Jr. of Clearbrook, Va., and Roger L. Miller of Winchester; a sister; eight grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by two sisters and two brothers.
Services will be Tuesday at 11 a.m. at Brown Funeral Home, 327 W. King St., Martinsburg, W.Va. The Revs. Larry Clark and Garry L. Felton will officiate. Burial will be in Buck Hill cemetery.
The family will receive friends Monday from 7 to 9 p.m. at the funeral home.
Virginia N. Garber
VIRGINIA BEACH, Va. - Virginia Nichols Garber, 85, died Saturday, Dec. 19, 1998, at Bayside Health Care Center in Virginia Beach.
Born on March 26, 1913, in Roanoke, Va., she was the daughter of the late A. Norman and Nellie Padgett Nichols. She was raised in Bedford County, Va., and lived in Lynchburg before moving to Hagerstown, where she lived for more than 50 years. She moved to Virginia Beach in 1922 and has been under the Watch Care of Virginia Heights Baptist Church, Norfolk.
She was preceded in death by her husband, William Baines Garber.
She was a former member of Haven Lutheran Church in Hagerstown.
She is survived by two sisters, Nina N. Gaddy and Edna N. McLaughlin; one niece; five nephews; seven great nieces and five great nephews.
She was preceded in death by five brothers.
A memorial service will be held today at 7 p.m. in Smith and Williams Funeral Home, Kempsville Chapel with Pastor George Boyd officiating. Burial will be Tuesday at 2 p.m. in Resthaven cemetery in Hagerstown.
The family will received friends tonight from 6:30 and following the memorial service.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial contributions be made to Virginia Heights Baptist Church.
William H. French
WINCHESTER, Va. - William H. French, 76, of West High Street, died Tuesday, Dec. 22, 1998, at Winchester Medical Center in Winchester, Va.
Born July 3, 1922, in Hancock, he was the son of the late William Dewey and Nelley May King French.
He retired from the U.S. Silica in Berkeley Springs, W.Va., as a foreman.
He was a veteran of World War II, serving with the U.S. Army.
He was a member of Hancock United Methodist Church.
He was a member of Tonoloway Rod and Gun Club; Webster B. Harrison Post 26 American Legion, all of Hancock; and Bass Anglers Sportsman Society.
He is survived by a brother, G. Dewey French of Hancock; and his adopted granddaughter, Jonelle Little of Hancock.
He was preceded in death by a brother, Bob French; and a close friend, Leona M. Little.
Services will be Thursday at 1 p.m. at Grove Funeral Home, 141 W. Main St., Hancock. The Rev. Robert G. Brennan Jr. will officiate. Burial will be in Shanktown cemetery, Big Pool, Md.
The family will receive friends today from 7 to 9 p.m. at the funeral home. For the convenience of friends the funeral home will be open today from noon to 9 p.m.
D. Virginia Reese
CLEARBROOK, VA. - D. Virginia Reese, 72, formerly of Hagerstown, died Sunday, Dec. 27, 1998, at Winchester Medical Center, Winchester, Va.
Born Dec. 31, 1925, in Chambersburg, Pa., she was the daughter of the late Arthur and Elbie Poffenburger.
She was formerly employed by Weight Watchers in Virginia.
She was a member of A.A.R.P.
She is survived by her husband, William H. Reese Jr., whom she married
June 10, 1952; one daughter, Bambi Moore of Sterling, Va.; one son, William H. Reese III of Warrenton, Va.; two sisters, Gloria Sailor of Waynesboro, Pa., and JoAnn Sease of Eustis, Fla.; two brothers, A. Frank Poffenburger Jr., of Eustis Fla.; and Walter Edward Poffenburger of Middletown, Md.; and five grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held Wednesday at 1:30 p.m. in the chapel of Bast Funeral Home. Burial will be in Rest Haven cemetery in Hagerstown.
The family will receive friends Tuesday evening from 7 to 9 p.m. at the funeral home.
