GEORGE VERNON RIGGINS
WYTHEVILLE - George Vernon Riggins, age 84, of Wytheville, born in Wythe County, Sept. 24, 1918, son of the late Robert and Jettie Mabe Riggins. He was retired from Coleman Furniture Factory and was a United States Army Veteran of World War II. He was preceded in Cemetery with the Rev. Mike Ingo officiating there will be no visitation at the funeral home. Barnett Funeral Home, Wytheville is in charge of arrangements.

ROBERT CORNELIUS SCHRONCE
PULASKI - Robert Cornelius Schronce, 72, of Newbern Heights funeral service will be held Sunday at 2 p.m. from Stevens Funeral Chapel with Rev. Mike Travis officiating. Burial will follow in the Highland Memory Gardens, Dublin. Visiting will be Sunday afternoon from the funeral home where the family will receive friends from 1 p.m. until the service hour. Arrangements by Stevens Funeral Home, Pulaski.

JOHN WILLIAM “BILL” RICHARDS
RADFORD - John William “Bill” Richards age 85 of Radford, went to be with the Lord, Friday, June 27, 2003 from Asbury Place, Wytheville. She was death by her husband, Richard Victor Underwood.
She is survived by one brother, Wade D. Blankenship and wife Wanda, Bland; one sister, Sadie White, Bland; brothers-in-law, Hobert Clark, Ballard, W. Va., Dailey Underwood, Pulaski, Clifford Underwood, Dublin; sisters-in-law, Opal Deck, Dublin, Alva Suttle, Dublin, Vivian Waldron, Narrows; several nieces and nephews. Funeral services were held Monday at 11 a.m. at the A. Vest and Sons Funeral Home, White Gate with the Rev. Lawrence Nuchols officiating. Burial in the Hunter passed away Sunday, June 29, 2003. Arrangements pending by Bower Funeral Chapel, Pulaski.

DORIS McNEIL TOMASIE
TACOMA, Wash. - Doris McNeil Tomasie, 82, born August 4, 1921 in Maynard, Minn. to Cecelia McCartney and Charles McNeil. She graduated with highest honors from Chippawa County High School in Maynard. She is survived by one son, Squire Tomasie of Bellevue, W.Va. and one daughter, Cheryl Tomasie Fariss, and son-in-law, Bruce L. Fariss, M.D. of Allisonia, Va.; one sister, Lois McNeil Mertz of Tacoma; five grandchildren, Travis Tomasie of Kirkland, now on active duty with the U.S. Army in Ft. Benning, Ga., Henry, Sarah Jane, Caroline, and Adam Fariss, all of Allisonia; and many nieces and nephews in the Pacific Northwest. Doris moved to Tacoma at age 20, where she met and cemetery in Allisonia on a hill overlooking the creek where she loved to play with her grandchildren. Arrangements by Mountain View Funeral Home.

ROGER MARSHALL “HOP” KEGLEY, SR.
PULASKI - Roger Marshall “Hop” Kegley, Sr., 79, of 715 Hickory Avenue, Pulaski, born in Pulaski, Va. on April 15, 1924, and was the son of the late French W. Kegley and Ellen Kirkner Kegley Thompson. He was also preceded in Cemetery, Pulaski with Rev. Don Sizemore officiating. There will be no visitation at the funeral home, but the family will receive friends and family at the home, 715 Hickory Avenue, Pulaski, at any other time. In lieu of flowers the family wishes that memorials be made to the Joy Ranch, P. O. Box 727, Hillsville, Va. 24343, or to the charity of one’s choice. Arrangements by Stevens Funeral Home, Inc., Pulaski, Va.

WILLIAM ELWOOD SLATE
PULASKI - William Elwood “Bill” Slate, 54, of 4391 Thaxton Road, Pulaski, Va., went to join his Lord and parents, C.R. (Rex) Slate and Ida Belle Viars Slate on June 28, 2003. Bill left the town of Pulaski in 1969. He worked in the states of Florida, Colorado, Washington, Texas, and Santa Fe, New Mexico and returned to Pulaski in 1981. Bill is the father of David Kitchner of Radford, Angela Town of Gastonia, N.C., and Kathy and Amanda Slate of Pulaski. He is also survived by six brothers and sisters-in-law, Rusty and Sue Slate of Connor’s Valley, Chuckie and Monica Slate of Pulaski, David and Alexandra Slate of Pulaski, Steve and Libby Slate of Dublin, Jerry Slate and Rick Slate of Pulaski. He is also survived by four sisters and brothers-in-law, Gayle and Jessie Owen of Draper; Doris and Rodney Sheppard of Dublin; Barbara and Tim Smith of Dublin; and Becky and Floyd Dehart of Draper. In addition, he is survived by a son-in-law, Gregory H. Town of Gastonia, NC.., and by three grandchildren, Sierra and Carl Kitchner of Christiansburg and Jeremy McManus of Gastonia, N.C. Bill was an uncle and great-uncle to several nieces and nephews. Bill has a large and extended family, including Charlotte Stanton of Olympia, Wash., Bud and Joyce White, Charlie Hamilton, Doug Kegley, David Kirby, Elgene and Bobbie Simpkins, Butch and Roz Kitchner, Sharon Kitchner, Larry Stilke, Terry Harmon, Roy and Connie Lineberry, and Eddie and Vera Wright. His loving church family includes Mr. and Mrs. Mike Blouse and all of the “Heaven’s Angels” at Highlands Community Church. Our father/brother also wished to acknowledge all of the wonderful doctors and nurses at the New River Valley Medical Center for all of the love, patience, and care. We will miss you, daddy and brother, but we know you are up there riding your motorcycle and having a great time with your mom and dad. Funeral services will be held Tuesday at 2 p.m. from Stevens Funeral Chapel with Pastor Michael Blouse officiating. Burial will follow in Hufford passed away Thursday, June 26, 2003 at the New River Valley Medical Center. He was a retired employee of RAAP. He attended the Dublin Baptist Church. He was preceded in Interment will follow in Thornspring died Friday, June 27, 2003, in Carilion New River Valley Medical Center. Surviving are his wife, Kathern Hamblin of Pulaski; two sons, Jeff Hamblin of Pulaski and Todd Hamblin of Dinwiddie County; a daughter, Tina Dixon of Prince George County; one sister, Joan Carbel of Kansas; and six grandchildren. Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Monday, June 30, 2003, at the DeVilbiss Funeral Chapel with Chaplin Jonathan Webster officiating. Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 6 p.m. until 8 p.m. Sunday, June 29, 2003, at the DeVilbiss Funeral Home of Radford.

EVELYN MINNICK SORRELL
CROZET - Evelyn Minnick Sorrell, 90, of Crozet, Va., and formerly of Pulaski, Born October 20, 1912 in Rockingham County, Va., she was the daughter of the late George L. and Sallie Tussing Minnick. She was a member of the Trinity Evangelical Lutheran Church in Pulaski. As a former resident of Pulaski for over fifty years, Mrs. Sorrell devoted her life to caring for her family and later to the children of other families in the area. She led an exemplary life and all who knew her were blessed by her generous and loving nature. In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by three sisters; Mary Miller, Ruth Fox, and Gertrude Sowers, and three brothers; Paul R. Minnick, Ralph Minnick, and Carl Minnick. She is survived by one daughter, Evelyn Sorrell Hall of Crozet, Va.; two sons, Eugene G. Sorrell, Jr. of Ft. Myers, Fla. and Paul M. Sorrell of Chesterfield, Va.; three sisters, Margaret M. Lawson of Jacksonville, Fla., Catherine M. Weeks of Floyd, and Anna M. Sowers of Front Royal, Va.; a brother, Miley Minnick of Ennis, Texas; as well as six grandchildren and three great grandchildren. Mrs. Sorrell was cremated and her graveside memorial service will be held Tuesday July 22, 2003 at 12 noon in Oakwood died June 26, 2003, in Highland Ridge Rehabilitation Center, Dublin, Va. She was the daughter of Albert Groseclose and Nora Copenhaver Groseclose. She was death in 1955. She is survived by two sons, Thomas J. Moyers of Birmingham, Ala., and Charles W. (Sandy) Moyers of Pulaski. One sister, Bernardine Lester of Christiansburg, survives. Other survivors are three grandchildren, Allan Moyers and Lynne Moyers, both of Birmingham and Sandra Moyers, of Atlanta, Ga. and three step-grandchildren. Catherine Boone, David Mayhew and Susan Lowe, all of Birmingham. Seven great-grandchildren and a number of nieces and nephews also survive. She was an active member of First United Methodist Church in Pulaski, where funeral services will be held at 2 p.m., Sunday, June 29, conducted by the pastor, Dr. Randall Frye. Visitation will take place at the church from 1 to 2 p.m. prior to the funeral. Memorials may be sent to First United Methodist Church or the charity of choice. Arrangements by Stevens Funeral Home, Pulaski, Va.

ROY SIDNEY DUNNIGAN
PULASKI - Roy Sidney Dunnigan, age 80 of 5517 Thornspring Heights Lane, Pulaski Born September 15, 1922 in Allisonia, Va. he was the son of the late Charles Grantham Dunnigan and Jeanette Smith Dunnigan. His wife Lillie Mae Fowler Dunnigan, two sisters Mary Jane Henley and Ruth Seagle, three brothers, Franklin William Dunnigan, James Wesley Dunnigan, and Raymond Lee Dunnigan preceded him in Interment will follow at the Highland Memory Gardens, Dublin. The family will receive friends from 6-8 p.m. Saturday evening at the Bower Funeral Chapel, 1631 Bobwhite Blvd., Pulaski. In lieu of flowers the family has asked that donations be made to the Carilion Hospice Services, NRV, 707 Randolph St. Suite 251, Radford, Va. 24141 Bower Funeral Chapel, Pulaski is handling the arrangements.

PULASKI - Roger M. Kegley, 79 of 715 Hickory Ave., Pulaski died Sunday June 22, 2003 at her Crozet residence. Arrangements by Thomas M. Seagle and Sons Funeral Home, Pulaski.
