Virginia, U.S., Marriage Records, 1936-2014

HAMPTON J. SIMPKINS
RADFORD - Hampton J. Simpkins, age 85, of Radford born Dec. 10, 1917 the son of Jake and Nettie East Simpkins. An Army Veteran of World War II, he served with the 104th Infantry Division in France, Holland and Germany. He was a retired employee of Hercules with 30 years service at the Radford Army Ammunition Plant. He was a member of the Morgans Chapel United Methodist Church. He was preceded in Interment will follow in Sunrise Burial Park. The family will receive friends from 5 p.m. until 7 p.m. Wednesday Sept. 17 at the DeVilbiss Funeral Home, Radford.

RUBY ESTELLE STROUPE JACKSON
DUBLIN - Ruby Estelle Stroupe Jackson, 86, residing at the home of her daughter and son-in-law, Edna and Raymond Whited of Dunkard Road, Dublin, born in Wytheville, on May 1, 1917 and was the daughter of the late Robert Edward Stroupe and Lula Hagee Stroupe. She was also preceded in passed away August 22, 2003. Also preceding her in Cemetery, Wytheville, with the Rev. Steve Johnson, Pastor of West End Methodist Church, Wytheville, officiating. The family will receive friends Thursday from 11 a.m. until 1 p.m. at Stevens Funeral Home, Pulaski.

HAZEL FRANCES DILLON
UNION BRIDGE, MD. - Hazel Frances Dillon, age 81, of Union Bridge, Md. Born Sept. 11, 1922 in Draper, Pulaski Co., she was the daughter of the late John McPeak, and Lydia Spence. She was pre-deceased by her first husband, Maxie Maxwell. She is survived by her husband of 31 years, Harvey L. Dillon.
Mrs. Dillon loved farm work, tending to her flower/vegetable gardens, and farm animals. She enjoyed playing bingo.
Surviving in addition to her husband are a son and daughter-in-law, David Wayne and Kathy Maxwell of Essex, Md., son, John R. Britton of Dover, Tenn.; daughter, Tisha Dillon of Union Bridge, Md.; son and daughter-in-law, Timothy Dillon and Jean Alberca McConnell of Union Bridge, Md.; sister, Catherine Cole, Pulaski; two grandchildren, Andrea Maxwell and David W. Maxwell; and many nieces and nephews.
Mrs. Dillon was pre-deceased by a son James D. “Champ” Maxwell; two sisters, Mabel S. McPeak, and Laura Edwards and two brothers, Andrew Spence and Roy Spence.
Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. on Friday, Sept. 19, at the Myers-Durboraw Funeral Home, 91 Willis Street, Westminster. Burial will follow in the Pleasant Valley born Jan. 10, 1938, in Pulaski the daughter of Mary and Sherman Akers. She will be missed greatly by many friends and especially by her two daughters, Patricia Blankenship and Ronda DeVinney; two sons, Lawrence Martin, Jr. and Tony Ransome, all of Winston-Salem; two sisters, Betty Edwards of Mocksville and Violet Kress of Pulaski; seven grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.
Ms. Shell was cremated.

JAMES QUINN STILWELL
PULASKI - James Quinn Stilwell, age 81 of 5403 Empire Street, Pulaski passed away Friday, Sept. 12, 2003 at her home.
funeral service will be held 2 p.m. Monday at the Shiloh died Saturday, Sept. 13, 2003, at his home. He was death by several brothers and sisters.
Surviving are: his wife, Stella “Peggy” Akers, Pulaski; children, Samuel Ralph Akers, Jr., Blacksburg, Barbara Morris, Newbern, Winnie Williams, Wytheville, Chris Akers, Dublin; eight grandchildren; two great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held Tuesday at 2 p.m. from Stevens Funeral Chapel with Rev. John Boyd officiating. Burial will follow in Highland Memory Gardens, Dublin. Visiting will be Monday evening at Stevens Funeral Home where the family will receive friends from 6 until 8 p.m. Flowers will be accepted or memorials may be made to the charity of one’s choice.

JAMES LEWIS LANE
PULASKI - James Lewis Lane, 68, of 311 Lexington Ave., Pulaski, born in Pulaski, on Aug. 7, 1935 and was the son of the late James Albert Lane, Sr. and Lurie Sonner Lane. He was also preceded in died Saturday, September 13, 2003 at the home of her daughter in Dublin, Va.
death by her husband, Joseph F. Dent in 1976; four brothers, Charles, Jr. “Dickie,” Samuel, James, and Ira Dean White; two sisters, Frances Smith and Lelia Mae Taylor; and one grandson, Joey Fleeman.
Survivors include three daughters, Carolyn Fleeman and husband James of Narrows, Va., Alice Vest and husband Jay of Dublin, and Donna Gregory of St. Albans, W.Va.; one brother, Eddie; two sisters, Ruth and Virginia; seven grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.
Graveside services will be 1 p.m. Monday, September 15, 2003, at Peterstown passed away Friday, September 12, 2003, at her home.
Arrangements are pending at the Bower Funeral Chapel, Pulaski.

ARCHIE EDWARD HIX
Mineral - Archi Edward Hix, 86 years of age from Mineral, Virginia died September 11, 2003 at his residence after an extended illness.
Mr. Riggins was death by a brother, Kelly L. “Jay” Riggins, Jr., and a sister, Ellen Riggins.
Survivors include his devoted friend and companion, Sue Walker; two daughters and their husbands, Debbie Disher and Steve of Newton and Donna Prevette and Benny of High Point; one son and his wife, Tommy Riggins, Jr. and Tammy of High Point; Ricky Williams of High Point; three grandsons, Joshua Disher and Christopher Disher both of Newton, and Luke Riggins of High Point; two brothers their wives, John Riggins and Brenda, and Bill Riggins and Nellie all of Va.; and three sisters, Elizabeth A. Hughes of Va., Alma “Tennie” Smith of Washington, D.C., and Nancy Jones of Va.
Funeral will be 3 p.m. Sunday in the chapel of Cumby FamilyInterment will follow in Floral Garden Park passed away Thursday, September 11, 2003. Survivors include her husband, Charles Sheppard; two daughters and sons-in-law, Teena and Earnie Mashburn, and Wendy and David McNeeley; two sisters, Edna Phillips and Christine Hedge; and five grandchildren, Zachary and Chloe Caroline Mashburn,, Brian and Andrea McNeeley, and Megan Harvison.
Funeral services will be held Wednesday, September 17, 2003 at 11 a.m. at the Mullins Funeral Home in Radford with Rev. Jerry Gibson officiating. Cemetery in Pulaski County. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that contributions be made to the America Diabetic Association, P.O. Box 2680, North Canton, Oh. 44720. The family will receive friends from 6 until 8 p.m. Tuesday at the Mullins Funeral Home in Radford.
