RADFORD – Emma Rachel Ratcliffe Mabry, 89, of Radford, went home to be with her Lord and Savior on Thursday, September 4, 2003.
She was a member of the First Pentecostal Holiness Church of Radford. She was preceded in Interment will follow in the Pentecostal Conference passed away at his home in Radford on Friday, September 5, 2003.
He was a building contractor for over 35 years. He was a U.S. Marine Veteran, having served during World War II and a member of the Va. May Masonic Lodge #38 A.F. & A.M. for over 50 years and the Va. May Eastern Star.
Survivors include: his wife of 56 years, Edith Akers Sutphin of Radford; a brother, R.A. Sutphin of Blacksburg; five sisters, Virginia Franklin of Dublin, Geneva Sutphin and Phyllis Duncan, both of Radford, Christine Sutherland of Roanoke, and Snowa Lockhart of Salem.
Funeral services will be held Monday, September 8, 2003, at 2 p.m. at the Mullins Funeral Home in Radford with Rev. Kristie Banes and Rev. Jim Walker officiating. cemetery at 2:30 p.m. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that contributions be made to your favorite charity. The family will receive friends from 4 until 6 p.m. Sunday at the Mullins Funeral Home in Radford.

DUBLIN – Lelia Morris Woodyard, 90, of the Little Creek Community, Dublin, born April 13, 1913, in Pulaski County, Va., the daughter of the late John Belle and Nannie Della Combs Morris. PULASKI - Rose Eaves, age 68 of 120 Howard Street, Pulaski, departed this life on Wednesday, Sept. 3, 2003 at her residence. She was Interment will be at Pinehurst passed away Thursday, Sept. 4, 2003 at the New River Valley Medical Center. Arrangements pending by Bower Funeral Chapel, Pulaski.
MARY LANELLE CASSIANO
MOREHEAD CITY, N. C. - Mary LaNelle Cassiano, 81, of Morehead City, joined her husband and the Lord on Friday, Aug. 29, 2003, after a gallant fight against Alzheimer’s Disease, departing from the Taylor Extended Care Facility in Sea Level, N. C. A Mass to celebrate Mary’s life will be held at St. Egbert’s Catholic Church in Morehead City at 11:00 a.m. Saturday, Sept. 6, 2003. Following the Mass, family and friends are invited to share fellowship in the Marlin Room at Captain Bill’s in Morehead City.
Mary was married Captain Frank A. “Cass” Cassiano in Norfolk on Dec. 18, 1948. Following Cass’ retirement from the United States Marine Corps, Mary and Cass settled in Morehead City.
Mary will long be remembered as the consummate hostess, a tireless deliverer of hundreds of meals on wheels, a loving and caring wife, “Mommie Doll:, “Ga Ga”, and friend to many. She will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved her, especially her family.
Mary was preceded in passed away Wednesday Aug. 27, 2003 in the Old Bridge Manor, Old Bridge, N. J. She had been in declining health for several months and born Saturday, Nov. 2, 1935 in Elkins, W. Va., the daughter of the late Russell Martin Varner and Flora Lee Valentine Varner.
She was employed by the Comfort Inn of Radford before retiring and moving to N. J. She was a former member in good standing of the Radford Business and Professional Women’s Organization.
She is survived by one brother, Russell Martin Varner, Jr. and wife Terry of Radford; three sisters, Vivian Varner Smith and husband Donald of Dublin, Joyce Ann Pudder of Middleburg, Fla., Coral Jean Tomaro and husband Peter of Old Bridge, N. J., with whom she resided prior to her illness. She is also survived by several special nieces and nephews.
Services were conducted on Saturday Aug. 29 at the Gundrum Service “Home For Funerals” in South Amboy, N. J. with Rev. Donald D. Smith officiating. Cemetery in Millstone, N. J.
PATTY H. VOLPE
NORTHFORK, W.VA. - Patty H. Volpe died Oct. 29, 2003 at Shands Teaching Hospital in Gainesville, Fla. One of nine children. She is survived by her sister, Syble H. McCraw and her children, Chuck Volpe, Lexington, Va.; Timothy Volpe, Jacksonville; Patti Helsel, High Springs and Sebby Volpe, Alachua and their spouses and thirteen wonderful grandchildren. She was a member of First Baptist Church of Jacksonville and loved her Sunday school class. She was a real estate-property manager.
Cemetery under the direction of Evans-Carter Funeral Home. Visitation will be on Sunday, Nov. 2 from 2 until 4 p.m. at Evans-Carter Funeral Home.

SALEM - Louise M. Scherrer, age 91, Salem, formerly of Pulaski passed away Wednesday, October 29, 2003 at Pulaski Community Hospital. He was a member of Calvary Baptist Church in Radford and employed with Breakell Inc. in Pulaski. He was preceded in Interment will follow in the Highland Memory Gardens in Dublin. The family will receive friends Friday from 6 to 8 p.m. at the Mullins Funeral Home in Radford.

DUBLIN - Elsie Roop Alley, age 89 of 4640 Blackhollow Road Dublin, and the Pulaski Health and Rehabilitation Center Born December 3, 1913 in Pulaski County, she was the daughter of the late Lucy Albert Roop and Samuel Hampton Roop. She was a member of the First Christian Church with over 75 years membership. Mrs. Alley worked many years at the Sadler Hosiery Mill and later at Radford Community Hospital. She is survived by her husband of 69 years, Everett Richard Alley, Sr. Two sisters; Loma R. Fristoe of Front Royal, Va., and Francis R. Crosier of Radford. Also survived by 5 grandchildren. DUBLIN - Rubye Ethelene Harriman Warf, age 77, Dublin Funeral service will be held Thursday, Oct. 30 at 11 a.m. at the Vaughan-Guynn-McGrady Chapel, Hillsville with Rev. Michael Montgomery and Rev. Nathan Montgomery officiating. Burial will follow at North End passed away at her home Monday evening following a lengthy illness. She was death by her parents, Walter E. and Minnie J. Lawson Frye.
Funeral services will be held at Elyria Baptist Church, 276 Washington Ave. on Friday, Oct. 31 at 10 a.m., Rev. Jim Gordon, pastor of the church, will officiate. Burial at Resthaven Memory Gardens in Avon, Ohio. Friends may call at the Busch-Curtis-Scheuffler Family Chapel, 114 Second Street from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Thursday.
