MICHAEL JOSEPH OLLIS
Pulaski - Michael Joseph Ollis, age 79 of 3849 Bainbridge Drive, Pulaski, born in Manhattan, New York on June 8, 1924. He was the son of the late Michael J. Ollis II and Catherine V. Donahue Ollis. His wife, Ruby E. Edmonds Ollis who death.
In 1942, he enlisted in the United States Navy and served as a radioman in the South Pacific and the Aleutian Islands during World War II. In 1948, he was hired by what is now known as the Federal Avaition Administration (FAA) as an Air Traffic controller and reported to his first duty station at the Pulaski County Airport. That same year he met and born on December 13, 1949. A son, Michael Joseph II, followed on December 6, 1951, and a third child, Deborah Anne, arrived January 6, 1957.
He moved his family frequently early in his career, working at LaGuardia Airport as a controller, at the FAA Academy in Oklahoma City as an instructor, the State Department in Ankara, Turkey, as a consultant, and for the FAA Headquarters in Washington, DC as a air traffic control specialist.
In 1980, he retired from the Federal Government after 35 years of service and began working as a consultant in a one-year assignment for ICAO in Rio de Janerio, Brazil. In 1987, he and Ruby maoved back to Pulaski where it had all began 39 years earlier.
His retirement was an active one. He was a member of the St. Edwards Catholic Church. He was a devotee of daily walks and read up to three newspapers a day. Those who knew him considered him a history buff and an expert on Navy operations in the South Pacific during World War II, in particular. He was devoutly patriotic, often writing letters to the Tin Can Sailor, a newspaper published by the National Association of Destroyer Veterans. His letters vividly described his own experiences as a destroyer sailor and were routinely published by the newspaper. He also wrote letters to local newspapers on a variety of issues affecting Southwest Va.
He was a father, friend, historian, teacher, patriot, consummate storyteller. An extraordinary man of dignity and kindness. He will be sorely missed by those who loved him. We are consoled in our belief that he now walks with the Lord in heaven.
He is survived by two daughters and sons-in-laws, Catherine V. and Steven VanArsdel of Edgewater, Md. and Deborah A. and John Krauss of Dunkirk, Md.; one son and daughter-in-law, Michael J. and Regina Ollis of Apple Valley, Ca.; four grandchildren, Lance Emerson, Ryan Ollis, Tiffany Ollis, and Ruby Krauss; one sister, Madeleine M. Kruger of Hagerstown, Md.; and his best friend, Effic Hollins of Pulaski.
A funeral mass will be conducted Monday at 10 a.m. at the St. Edwards Catholic Church, Pulaski with Father Rene Castillo officiating. Cemetery, Popular Camp with full Military honors conducted by the Hillsville Veterans of Foreign Wars Post #1115.
The family will receive friends Sunday evening from 6 until 7:30 p.m. followed by a Virgil service at 7:40 p.m. by Father Rene Castillo at Bower Funeral Chapel.
Bower Funeral Chapel, Pulaski is handling the arrangements for the family.

DONALD S. AYERS
Chesterton, Ind. - Donald S. Ayers, age 74 of Chesterton, Ind., born in Knoxville, Tenn. on Dec. 31, 1928 to his mother, Georgia Roope Reese of Pulaski, Va.
He death.
He was a retired carpenter of the Carpenters Local # 1005 after 51 years of service. He was a member of the Porter United Methodist Church, the Calumet Masonic Lodge # 379, the Chesterton Moose Lodge #1623, the Carpenter’s Local 1005 and formerly served on the Chesterton Park Board. He was an avid golfer and a devoted Chesterton Trojan fan. He was one of the original builders of Santa’s House that still stands in Thomas Centennial Park in Chesterton.
He was preceded in Interment will follow in the Chesterton Cemetery in Christiansburg. Arrangements by Mullins Funeral Home in Radford.

HUBBLE, HARRY FRANKLIN
RADFORD – Harry Franklin Hubble, age 81, Interment will follow in the Rockford died on Wednesday, October 15, 2003 at Rex Hospital Hospice Unit, from complications related to diabetes. Martha was passed away Thursday, October 16, 2003 in the Pulaski Health and Rehab. Center following a lengthy illness. She was death by her husband, Jack William Richardson.
She is survived by two daughters and sons-in-law, Maureen & Bill Gregory, Richmond, Jackie & Ken Tolbert, Dublin; granddaugters & spouses Beth & Doug Woods, Richmond, Laura & Grove Snarr, Richmond, Jennifer & Ralph Hague, Richmond; grandsons Mike & Todd Tolbert, Dublin; great-grandson Cory Woods and great-granddaughters Julie & Kelly Snarr & Christine Hague.
A graveside service will be held Saturday, October 18 at 11 a.m. from the Highland Memory Gardens, Dublin. Visiting will be Friday evening from Stevens Funeral Home where the family will receive friends from 6 until 8 p.m. In lieu of flowers the family suggests that contributions be made to the Rebuilding fund of the Dublin United Methodist Church, P.O. Box 577, Dublin, Virginia 24084.

ARCHIE B. BOADWINE, JR.
BEVERLY HILLS, FLA. - Archie B. Boadwine, Jr., age 75, of Beverly Hills, Fla. born in Pulaski to the late Archie B. Boadwine, Sr. and Margie Richardson Boadwine. He was a member of Beverly Hills Community Church and was a veteran of World War II serving in the United States Army. He was a member of Lions Club of Beverly Hills, Fla., Ridge Masonic Lodge #398 and was a former member of Twisted Oaks Golf and Country Club and Seven Rivers Golf and Country Club where he was an avid golfer. He was also a member of National Association of Retired Federal Employees.
Surviving are: his wife of 44 years, Betty J. (Stoots) Boadwine of Beverly Hills, Fla.; son, Michael Stephen Boadwine of Panama City, Fla.; brother, William Boadwine, Pulaski, Va.; sister, Doris Harris, Southern Pines, N.C.; granddaughter, Katherine Paige Boadwine, Panama City, Fla.; nephews, Daniel Boadwine, Salem, Va., Michael Boadwine, Pulaski, Va.; Melissa Harris, Southern Pines, N.C.; mother-in-law, Agnes Gates, Pulaski, Va.
Funeral services were held Wednesday, Oct. 15, 2 p.m. at Beverly Hills Community Church with the Rev. Stuart Jamison, III officiating. passed away Tuesday, October 14, 2003. He was in the United States Navy for 21 years having served during the Korean and Vietnam Wars. He was a security guard with SFI at Pulaski Furniture for five years and a security guard with New River Castings for three years. He was preceded in passed away Monday, Oct. 13, 2003 at her residence. She was death by her husband, Jack Harmon, a daughter, Pat Jones, a granddaughter, Sabrina Arnold, three brothers and three sisters. She was a member of the Liberty Hill Pentecostal Holiness Church for 68 years and was also a member of the church choir.
She is survived by: one son and daughter-in-law, Zendell and Karen Harmon, Wytheville; three daughters and sons-in-law, Naomi and Roger Arnold, Wytheville, Eileen and Bobby Jackson, Pittsburgh, Pa., Vickie and Garnett Phillips, Pulaski, Farley Jones of Wytheville; three sisters and brothers-in-law, Josephine Akers, Wytheville, Elva and Ram Dunford, Max Meadows, Ida Maxine and Bobby Arnold, Wytheville; eight grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren; two step-grandchildren also survive.
Funeral services will be held Thursday, Oct. 16 at 11 a.m. at Liberty Hill Pentecostal Holiness Church with Rev. Bob Lewis officiating. Cemetery. The body will be taken to the church where the family will receive friends Wednesday from 7 to 9 p.m. The family suggests that those who wish may make memorial donations to The Lead Mines Rescue Squad, P. O. Box 502, Austinville, Va. 24312.
Barnett Funeral Home, Wytheville, Va. is in charge of the arrangements.

EVELYN SMART WILLIAMS SEMONES
RADFORD - Evelyn “Blondie” Smart Williams Semones, age 76, of Radford, death by a daughter, Sylvia “Kathy” Semones Viers. Survivors include three granddaughters; four great-grandchildren; brother, Harvey W. Smart; sister, Monsie Combs. Funeral services will be held 2 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 15 at Mullins Funeral Home with Rev. Eric Combs officiating. passed away Oct. 11, 2003 after a long illness. She was married Tyler Wirt in 1926 and they had two children, Peggy and Tyler, Jr. She moved to Ariz. in 1982 to be near her daughter, Peggy and husband John Rollins. She was preceded in Interment will follow in Thornspring passed away Saturday, Oct. 11, 2003 in the Twin County Community Hospital.
He was Interment will follow in Highland Memory Gardens in Dublin. Grover King Post 1115 VFW will conduct graveside military rites.
The family will receive friends at the Reese Funeral Home Wednesday from 1 p.m. until service time. Hillsville Masonic Lodge #193 A.F. & A.M. will conduct Masonic rites.
Reese Funeral Home in Austinville is in charge of arrangements.
