DOROTHY VERMILLION LITTERAL
DUBLIN – Dorothy Vermillion Litteral, age 88 of Giles Avenue, Dublin, Born July 20, 1915 in Dublin, she was the daughter of the late Charles Eric Vermillion and Blanche Nidermaier Vermillion. She was the secretary of Dublin Elementary School for 22 years. Her husband, Delphin Delmos Litteral, precedes her in died on Sunday, Jan. 25, 2004 at Annaburg Manor in Manassas. Mrs. Thornton lived in Pulaski for over 35 years before moving to the Manassas area in 1984. While in Pulaski she was a Sunday school teacher at Anderson Memorial Presbyterian Church and she also worked at Wallace’s women’s dress shop. In Manassas she was active in the New Life Community Church. She used to work at Sassafras. Mary and her husband, Vernon were members of Gideons International since 1969.
She is survived by: her husband, of 66 years Vernon Thornton of Manassas; son, Terry and June Thornton of Manassas; sister, Ruth Roop of Elizabethian, Tenn.; grandsons, Gary Thornton, Chris Thornton and Jeff Thornton; great granddaughter, Samantha Thornton. Mary is also survived by numerous nieces and nephews.
The family will receive friends on Wednesday, Jan. 28, 2004 from 7 until 9 p.m. at Lee Funeral home, 8521 Sudley Road, Manassas. Funeral services will take place on Thursday, Jan. 29 at 11 a.m. at Lee Funeral Home. Cemetery in Alexandria. A reception will be held for family and friends at the New Life Community Church Ministry Center, 9510 Technology Drive (703) 368-2011 at 3 p.m.

JAMES LEO GIBSON, SR.
RADFORD - James "Jimmy" Leo Gibson, Sr., 75, death by his wife, Geneva Nelson Gibson, son, Jim Gibson, Jr. and Linda. Survivors include two daughters, Marti Carr of Dublin, and Yvonne Gaines of Radford; two sons, Jerry D. Gibson of Radford, and Larry D. Gibson of Roanoke; two sisters, Anna Moran of Radford, and Barbara Hollandsworth of Powhatan; a half brother, William Gibson of Columbus, Ohio; two step brothers, Harry Bond of Birmingham, AL and Roger Bond of Coco Beach, FL; two step-sisters, Dorothy Gibson and Rita Hite both of Radford; 10 grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. Wednesday, January 28, 2004 at Grace Episcopal Church with Rev. Kris Kramer officiating. died Friday Jan. 23, 2004 at his home.

He was a graduate of Emmanuel Bible College, Atlanta, Ga. The Rev. Byrd was in the ministry for more than 50 years and had been most recently the pastor of Church of God of Prophecy in Smithfield, Va.
“Gene” is survived by his loving wife of 54 years, Irene Byrd; two sons, Larry Byrd and wife Nancy of McKinney, Texas, Steve Byrd and wife Carol of Chatham, Va.; a daughter, Donna Rambo and husband George of Virginia Beach; seven brothers, Bishop Garnett D. Byrd and wife Alma of Pulaski, Avery F. Byrd and wife Mary, Pulaski, Leroy G. Byrd and wife June of Griffin, Ga., Henry A. Byrd Sr. and wife Libby of Pulaski, Robert L. Byrd and friend Juanita Brandau of Dublin, Ronald W. Byrd and wife Linda of Galax, Rev. Donald W. Byrd and wife Delorice of Max Meadows; one sister, Marie Donaldson of Pulaski; eight grandchildren; five great-grandchildren.
The funeral was held Jan. 16, 2004 at Kellum Funeral Home, Rosewood Chapel and he was laid to rest in Rosewood Memorial Park, Virginia Beach, Va. with Bishop Robert Davis, Bishop Garnett Byrd and Rev. Steve Byrd officiating.

ELIZABETH MEREDITH HANEY
DUBLIN - Elizabeth Meredith Haney, 88 of Dublin, death by her husband, Ralph W. Haney, Sr. and a son, Richard M. Haney. Survivors include a son, Ralph W. Haney, Jr. of Dublin; and several brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law. Funeral services will be held Sunday at 2:00 p.m. at the Dublin Baptist Church with Dr. David Hoagland officiating. died Thursday Jan. 22, 2004 in the Pulaski Community Hospital.

She touched the lives of many children as she cared for them in her home for over 40 years.
Surviving are: her daughters and sons-in-law, Mr. and Mrs. Ralph (Marie) Fitts, Charleston, S.C., Mr. and Mrs. Archie (Ruth) Brown, San Jose, Calif., Mr. and Mrs. Phillip (Wanda) Cruff, Goose Creek, S.C., Rev. and Mrs. Lawrence (Betty) Nuckolls, Willis, Va.; son and daughter-in-law, Mr. and Mrs. Billy (Inez) Tracy, Pulaski; “adopted daughter”, Kim Nelson; brothers, James Sheppard, Annadale, Va., Mr. and Mrs. Clayton (Bobbie) Sheppard, Springfield, Va.; sisters, Irene Edwards, Colonial Beach, Va., Lena Sheppard, Annadale, Va., Nancy Sheppard, Annadale, Va.; grandchildren, Diane Blocker, Fuquay-Varina, N.C., Nathan Baird, Summerville, S.C., Michael Baird, Murfreesbor, Tenn, Michael and Steven Brown, San Jose, Calif., Brian Cruff, Goose Creek, S.C., Tracy Peploe, Alabaster, Ala., Chanda Tracy, Pulaski; eight great grandchildren; several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held 2 p.m. Saturday at the Bower Funeral Chapel, Pulaski with the Rev. Judy Yonce and Rev. Lawrence Nuckolls officiating. passed away Thursday Jan. 22, 2004 at the New River Valley Medical Center, Christiansburg. death by her daughter Carolyn Diane Akers and one brother, Melvin Douglas Stevens.
Surviving are: her husband of 54 years, Robert D. Akers, Pulaski; son and daughter-in-law, Robert Michael Akers and wife Cathy Akers, Blacksburg; daughter and son-in-law, Janet Akers McNew and husband Malcolm McNew, Dublin; two grandchildren, Jason McNew, Dublin, Ashley McNew, Dublin.
A graveside service will be held 11 a.m. Saturday morning at the Shiloh passed away Monday, Jan. 19, 2004 at the Carilion New River Valley Medical Center. She is survived by three sons, Barrie Jr., and wife Robin, Leesburg, Va.; Jerome, Christiansburg, Va.; Jeffrey and wife Nicki, Salisbury, N. C.; two daughters, Diane Miller, and Polly Baker, both of Pulaski; her mother, Ella Mae Slater, Detroit, Mich.; a devoted mother-in-law, Katherine Phipps, Galax, Va.; one brother and sister-in-law, Larry and Janice Brown, Upper Marlboro, Md. Six grandchildren, Brandon Miller, Key West, Fla.; Demetrious Brown, Pulaski, Va.; Jamye Danielle Brown, Miami, Fla.; Sian Brown, Roanoke, Va., and Nicholas, and Nathan Brown, Salisbury, N. C. The family will receive friends on Saturday Jan. 23 at 1 p.m. at the Randolph Avenue United Methodist Church, Pulaski. The funeral will immediately follow at 2 p.m., with Rev. Leroy Henry officiating. Cemetery, Pulaski. Claytor Dean Funeral Home in Radford is serving the Brown Family.

LUDIE REGINA REYNOLDS
WINTER HAVEN, FLA. – Ludie Regina Reynolds, age 54, of Winter Haven born Oct. 17, 1949 she was the daughter of Hurley Mick Underwood and Waneta D. Berry. She was a member of United Christian Ministerial Administration Church of God. She received her Doctrine in Bible Knowledge from the United Christian Ministerial Administration.
Surviving are: her husband, Chester Wayne Reynolds, Sr., Winter Haven, Fla.; sons, Herbert “Craig” Berry, Winter Haven, Fla., Chester Wayne Reynolds, Jr., Winter Haven, Fla.; daughter, Chestina Lynn Cloum, Winter Haven, Fla.; brothers, Hurley Euguene Underwood, Ind., Herbert Paten Berry, Radford, Early Wayne Underwood, Pennington Gap, Va.; sisters, Norma Jean Jessee, Pennington Gap, Va., Margaret Ann Collins, Lafayette, Ind., Naomi Rebecca Marrow, Atlanta, Ga.; 10 grandchildren; one great grandchild.
A graveside Cemetery, Eagle Lake. In lieu of flowers the family is accepting donations through “New Life” Assembly of God, 1951 Rifle Range Road S., Winter Haven, Fla. 33880.

CALVIN CHESTER RASH
PULASKI – Calvin Chester Rash, 59, of 4098 Hogan’s Place, Pulaski, born in Pulaski on June 26, 1944 and was the son of the late Ernest Thomas Rash and Lucy Ellen Sutphin Rash. He was also preceded in Cemetery. Visiting will be Friday at Stevens Funeral Home where the family will receive friends from 1 p.m. until the service hour.

LOUISE SERENA TAYLOR
RADFORD – Louise Serena Taylor, age 81 of Radford, departed this life on Jan. 17, 2004 at the Carilion New River Valley Medical Center. She was death. She leaves to cherish her memory, one sister, Maggie Minter of New River, Va. and a host of nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be held on Thursday, Jan. 22, at 1 p.m. at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints at 900 Pendleton Street in Radford, Va. Penn Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

WILLIAM ROY EDWARDS
WOODLAWN – William Roy Edwards, age 78, Cemetery with Military Rites conducted by VFW Post 1115. The family will receive friends Thursday from 7 to 9 p.m. at the Vaughan-Guynn-McGrady Chapel, Hillsville.

EDWARD VAUGHAN WEST
RINER - Edward Vaughn West, 89 of Riner, died Sunday night, Jan. 18, 2004, in the Pulaski Community Hospital. Mr. Bailey was a beloved husband, father, brother, grandfather and great-grandfather. He was born in Crumpler, W. Va. on May 15, 1919 and was the son of the late Dennie Bailey and Emma Bailey Bailey. He was a veteran having served in World War II in the United States Army where he served in the South Pacific. He was a member of the Trinity Baptist Church, Pulaski.
Surviving are: his beloved wife of 52 years, Katherine Bailey, Pulaski; daughters and sons-in-law, Sandra and Roy Sorrell, Carrollten, Va., Darlene and Roger Yates, Tazewell; son and daughter-in-law, Arthur Vern Bailey, Jr. and Kay Bailey, Christiansburg; sister, Pansy Vipperman, Fla.; brother, Basil D. Bailey, Roanoke; four grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be Thursday at 2 p.m. from Stevens Funeral Chapel, Pulaski with Rev. Dwight Haynes and Rev. Howard Hawkins officiating. Burial will follow in Highland Memory Gardens, Dublin. Visiting will be Wednesday evening at Stevens Funeral Home where the family will receive friends from 6 until 8 p.m. The family wishes that memorials be made to the Trinity Baptist Church, Robinson Tract Road, Pulaski, Va. 24301.
