Survivors include her parents; her maternal grandparents, Nancy and Roger Bishop of Radford; her paternal grandmother, Mary Price of Christiansburg. Services will be private. The family is being served by Mullins Funeral Home & Crematory in Radford.
FERNANDE AIMEE GARD
RADFORD – Fernande Aimee Gard, 77 of Radford, passed away on Friday, February 20, 2004 at his home. He attended Dublin Baptist Church and was a retired electrician. He was preceded in passed away on Saturday, February 21, 2004 at Radford Nursing and Rehab. He was a member of the Grove United Methodist Church in Radford and was a member of the Virginia May Masonic Lodge #38 in Radford.
He was a U. S. Navy veteran of W.W.II and a retired employee of Radford University and the Lynchburg Foundry with 43 years of service. He was preceded in Entombment will follow at Highland Memory Gardens Mausoleum in Dublin where the Masons will meet at 2:30 for graveside rites. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that contributions be made to the Va. May Lodge Scholarship Fund, P. O. Box 792, Radford, VA 24143. The family will receive friends from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. Monday at the Mullins Funeral Home in Radford or Tuesday after the service at Randy’s house.
HOWARD JAMES BOWERS, JR.
PEARISBURG – Howard James Bowers, Jr., 30, of 1187 Flat Hollow Rd. (white gate), Pearisburg, born in Baltimore, Md. on Jan. 16, 1974 and was the son of Mr. and Mrs. Howard James Bowers, Sr. or Pearisburg. In addition to his parents, he is survived by a son, Tyler James Bowers of Bluff City, Tenn.; daughter, Tyra Kaylee Bowers of Pulaski; sister, Jennifer Louise Bowers of Christiansburg; many aunts; uncles; cousins; and one nephew. Funeral services will be held Monday, Feb. 23, 2004 at 11 a.m. at Riffe's Funeral Chapel in Narrows. Burial will follow at a later date.
The family will receive friends at Riffe in Narrows Sunday from 6 until 8 p.m.

POCA, W.Va. – Hilda Cowie Cogan Jewell, 85, of Poca, went home to be with the Lord Friday, Feb. 20, at home surrounded by her family.

PULASKI - Edgar Erby Smith, age 83 of Pulaski, Born April 6, 1920 in Pulaski County, Va., he was the son of the late Alma Wirt Smith and Thomas Edgar Smith. He was a veteran of W.W.II having served in the United States Air Corp., a 50 year member of the Pythagoras Masonic Lodge # 239 A.F.&A.M., a member of the First United Methodist Church in Pulaski, worked for Kerns Bakery for 28 years, and was a bee keeper for 20 years. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in Interment will follow in the church cemetery following the service. LAKELAND, FLORIDA - Barbara Ann Kincer Goad, age 71 of Lakeland, Florida and formerly of Hickory Avenue, Pulaski passed away Tuesday morning February 17, at her home. death.

died Saturday, Feb. 14, 2004 in the Pulaski Community Hospital. She was death by her husband, Elder John Ray White and by four children, John Olen, Henry Elwood, Carolyn Ann White and Jewel Rupe. She was a member of the Primitive Baptist Church in Sylvatus and she retired with over 25 years of service with Dublin Garment.
She leaves behind to cherish her loving kindness, daughter and son-in-law, Lois and Robert Peterson, Hampton; daughter and son-in-law, Ruby and Rex Wilson, Max Meadows; son and daughter-in-law, Ray and Sally White, Bedford; 16 grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren; four great-great-grandchildren.
Cemetery, Carroll County. Visiting will be Monday from the funeral home where the family will receive friends from 4 until 6 p.m.

ELMER DEXTER “ED” NEWMAN, JR.
Pulaski - Elmer “Ed” Newman, Jr., 79, of 1325 Grove Drive, Pulaski VA born in Bland County on January 3, 1925.
Mr. Newman was a member of the First Baptist Church and served as a deacon and held other positions in the church over the years. he was a World War II veteran having served in Europe during the Battle of the Bulge. Mr. Newman was the Administrator of the old Pulaski General Hospital and then Pulaski Community Hospital. After 37 years in the hospital business he retired in 1985.
He was a member of the American Academy of Medical Administrators, the Hospital Financial Management Association, the Virginia Hospital Association and the Roanoke Area Hospital Association.
Mr. Newman’s hobby was playing golf. He as a former member of the Thornspring Golf Club, former member of the Pulaski Elks Lodge and a member of the American Legion Post, #7 Pulaski.
Surviving are: his wife of 58 years, Violet Quesenberry Newman, Pulaski; daughter, Elaine Dexter Newman, Pulaski; granddaughter, Anne Kelly Newman, Pulaski; sister, Sylvia N. Malone, Charlottesville; brother, Fred C. Newman, Cincinnati, OH; 7 nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held Thursday at 2:00 PM from Stevens Funeral Chapel, Pulaski with Dr. Don Pegram officiating. Burial will follow in Highland Memory Gardens, Dublin. Visiting will be Wednesday evening at Stevens Funeral Home where the family will receive friends from 6 until 8 p.m. The family wishes that the memorials be made to the First Baptist Church, P.O. Box 1652, Pulaski, VA 24301.
