PAUL FISHER ARMBRISTER, SR.
DUBLIN - Paul Fisher Armbrister, Sr. , 87, of Dublin (Claytor Lake) married Hazel Farmer in 1942. He was active in both community and church affairs. Always a student of music, Paul pursued this avocation with the First United Methodist Church Choir. He was often to be found singing solos during church festivities. Paul even sang "Because" to his bride during their wedding ceremony.
Paul has always been immersed in the business world. He owned and operated Western Auto stores in both Pearisburg and Dublin. During this phase of his life, he remained very active in both community and church affairs. He served on the Pearisburg Methodist Church Board of Trustees and the Building Committee as well as serving as a Sunday School teacher for young adults. Paul was also an active Mason and Lion's Club member. Paul served as President of the Pearisburg Lion's Club and was a Director for the Blue Ridge District. While active in community life, during this period he raised a family of two daughters and one son. Despite his many activities, he has always been a very devoted and loving father and husband.
Paul sold his Western Auto stores after 34 years and returned to Pulaski County to live on Claytor Lake. He devoted several years to the real estate business, first selling and then appraising properties. Paul soon became a certified Senior Appraiser and enjoyed a second career as an appraiser. Although he worked for many institutions as an appraiser, at one time he was the only appraiser in the local area to be licensed to appraise properties for several federal government agencies. On his 80th birthday cake, he told Hazel he was ready to retire. Soon afterwards, Paul realized he was losing muscle control and found it difficult to continue with normal daily activities. His illness was diagnosed as Parkinson's Disease.
Lovingly written by Hazel Armbrister.
