ROANOKE - Evangelist Martha Elizabeth Lowery, 77, of Roanoke went to be with her Lord on Monday, August 30, 2004. She had been the Assistant Pastor at Solid Rock Holiness Church in Pulaski for many years. She is survived by her son, Marvin Gary Gant; daughter, Cordelia Thompson; several grandsons; sisters, Betty Lee Smith, the Reverend Judy Johnson, Edith Boysaw all of Pulaski.
A memorial service will be held on Thursday, September 2, 2004 at 7 p.m. in the New Beginning United Holy Church, 116 16th St NW, Roanoke, with Pastors Donald and Izetta Williams officiating. The family will receive friends following the service at the church. A homegoing service will be held Saturday, September 4, 2004 at 2 p.m. in the Pentecostal Holiness Church on Johnson Street in Pulaski, Va. cemetery. Arrangements by John M. RADFORD - William Keith (Sonny) Hill, 66, passed away Sunday, August 29, 2004 at her home following a courageous battle with cancer. She was death by her beloved grandparents, Harvey and Ruby DeHart, and Ribble and Ethel Hamilton. She is survived by her husband of 24 years, William Ford Teel; her only daughter, Camille Anne Teel; her parents; her brother, Roger Hamilton. Funeral services will be held Wednesday, Sept. 1, 2004 at 2:00 p.m. at the Fairlawn Church of God with Rev. Eddie Dalton officiating. Cemetery in Christiansburg with Mr. Dennis Curd presiding. BLACKSBURG - Rebecca Darlene Linkous, 51 of Blacksburg, death by her mother, Phyllis Ann Gillenwater Linkous and a brother, Tim Linkous. Survivors include her father and stepmother, Donald M. and Connie Linkous of Hiwassee; two brothers, Daniel Linkous of Bastian, and Ronald Linkous of Groveland, FL; a sister, Patricia Layne of Concord; and many nieces and nephews. CLAYTOR LAKE - Virginia Jones Musser, age 89 of Claytor Lake, Born November 9, 1914 in Wythe County, she was the daughter of the late Ida Swaim Jones and William Thomas Jones. She was a member of the First Pentecostal Holiness Church in Pulaski. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in Interment will follow in Highland Memory Gardens. JACK LEE LESTER, SR.
DUBLIN - Jack Lee Lester, Sr., 61 of Dublin, VA born in Pulaski on November 14, 1942. Jack was an active member of French’s Chapel P. H. Church and a member of the YMCA Cardiac Rehabilitation Program. He served in the U. S. Army from 1961 to 1964. Jack had worked for J. D. Long Masonry, Inc. of Newington as a brick mason foreman. He was preceded in born in Todd, N.C. on April 5, 1923. He was preceded in Interment will follow at the Hufford passed away August 26, 2004 in Charlottesville, Va. Margaret’s survivors, brother Harland Little, sons William Smith and Allan Smith, daughter Ashley Smith, grandsons Brandon Smith and Liam Smith, are blessed with cherished memories and love, Margaret not only touched the lives of friends and family, she touched the lives of the New River Valley through her life-long dedication to education and teaching. On behalf of all of her students, Margaret will wear a purple hat in heaven and on behalf of Brandon and Liam, “We love you Mimi”. RADFORD - Cleveland Lee Duncan, 76 of Radford, died Sunday, August 29, 2004 in the University of Virginia Hospital, Charlottesville. She was death by her husband, Albert “Junior” Morefield, & a sister, Roberta W. Burnett. Mrs. Morefield was a hostess at the Pulaski Hardee’s for many years, where she always welcomed customers with a smile. She is survived by 2 sons, Barry Morefield and Larry Morefield, both of Roanoke; 1 daughter, Margaret Hosking of Sparks, Nevada; 1 brother, George Waddell of Salisburg, MD. He was a graduate of Pulaski High School and he worked in the automobile industry in sales.

ROANOKE – Buford Coolidge Lanter, 83, of Roanoke, Born February 7, 1921 in the Cripple Creek section of Wythe County, he was a son of the late Herbert B. and Mary Parks Lanter. During World War II, he served in the United States Navy. Mr. Lanter was retired from The General Company, and was a member of Woodmen of the World. Surviving are his wife, Iva Dell Hunt Lanter; children, Bonnie Beckner and husband, Matthew, of Stewardsville, Joann Lanter of Roanoke, Judy Taylor and husband, David, of Max Meadows; grandchildren, Donna Johnson and husband, Tom, of Vienna, Va., Clif Shick and wife, Marianne, of Ironto, Matthew Shick and wife, Laura, of Bedford, Jennifer Pennington and husband, Bernie, and Jaime Davis and husband, David, all of Wythe County, Kim Taylor of Johnson City, Tenn. and David Taylor, Jr. of Statesville, N.C.; and five great-grandchildren, Ryan, Leigh, Dakota, Fiona and Garrett. HIWASSEE – Wanda Sands McPeak, age 52 of 5943 Cecil’s Chapel Road, Hiwassee Born Sept. 12, 1951 in Richmond, Va. she was the daughter of Cornise Sherman Sands and the late Nancy Minnie Taylor Sands Hilton.
Surviving are: her husband, James Edward McPeak, Hiwassee; daughter, Amy Shaffer, Independence, Va.; son, John Moorefield, N.C.; grandchildren, Junior Shaffer, Independence, Va., John Moorefield, Jr., S.C., Breelin Moorefield, S.C.
