VIRGINIA BEACH - Carl Stanley Ballard, Sr., 76 born on November 10, 1928 in Memphis, Tenn. to the late Smith and Thelma Ballard. Carl served his country in the United States Navy in the submarine service and retired from State Farm Insurance Co., after 38 years of service. He is preceded in Cemetery, 3445 Princess Anne Road, Va. Beach. The family received friends in Smith and Williams Funeral Home, Kempsville Chapel from 7-8 p.m.
GEORGE WILLIAM SOUTHERN
PULASKI - George William Southern, 59 of Pulaski, Born December 4, 1945 in Pulaski, he was the son of the late Hattie Owens Southern and Charlie Ingram Southern.
He is survived by his brothers; Bobby Ray Southern of Dublin, and Alfred "Ed" Southern of Pulaski. A memorial service will be held Friday September 2, 2005 at 7:00 p.m. at the Peak Creek Mission of Prayer with the Rev. Dale Akers officiating. passed away Wednesday, August 31, 2005 at the New River Valley Medical Center. She was retired from the Food Service Department of Radford University with over 18 years of service. She was preceded in Interment will follow in Sunset passed away Tuesday, Aug. 17, 2004. He is survived by his wife, Trish Banes, of Little Creek; parents, Bill and Betty Banes, Little Creek; sisters and brothers-in-law, Carolyn and Thomas Millirons, Little Creek, Lottie Darlene and Jerry Andrews, Pulaski, Lynn and Tommy Ratcliffe, Dublin, Jane and Kelsey Duncan, Pulaski; brother, Darrell Banes, Narrows; father-in-law and mother-in-law, Clyde and Sylvia Branson, Pulaski; sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law, Doug and Rachel Branson, Pulaski, Carolyn and Brad Jennings, Hillsville, Kathy and Jerry Gravley, Pulaski; several nieces, nephews, and a host of special friends also survive.
Cemetery. The family will receive friends at the Grubb Funeral Home Thursday from 6 p.m. until service time.

DESSIE JANE PEAKE SMITH MOORE
MAX MEADOWS Dessie Jane Peake Smith Moore, age 95, of Max Meadows, born in Wythe County, daughter of the late Aaron Jefferson and Matilda Alverta King Peake. She was the oldest member of the Locust Hill United Methodist Church and the Max Meadows United Methodist Circuit. She was preceded in Interment will follow in Sanders passed away Monday morning Aug. 16, 2004 at her home.

Graveside services will be conducted Monday, July 11 at 11 AM in Oakwood passed away unexpectedly on Monday, July 4, 2005 at her home in St. Augustine, FL. She was preceded in passed away Thursday morning, July 7, 2005. Interment will follow at the Moore Family Cemetery, Draper. The family will receive friends Friday evening from 6:00 to 8:00 P.M. at Bower Funeral Chapel, Pulaski.
