WICHITA, KS – Rosalie Keating Tippin, age 80, death by her parents, her sisters, and her son-in-law Johnie Webster of Pulaski, VA. Rosie is survived by her son and daughter-in-law Dr. Steve and Nancy Tippin of Ft. Collins, CO; daughters and sons-in-law Jan and Dr. Christopher Deister of Beaver Creek, OH and Kristy and Tom Martin of Wichita, KS; daughter Kim Webster of Pulaski; eleven grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. She was much loved and will be greatly missed by her family. Memorial is suggested by the family to Trinity Academy, 12345 E. 21st St. N., Wichita, KS 67226.

ALLISONIA – Mr. Roy E. Roberts Sr, 63, . of Allisonia Cemetery. Visitation will be held from 2 to 4 p.m. on Sunday at the Shannon Rufe Snow Funeral Chapel.
Albertson’s Stores in the Dallas-Fort Worth area established a memorial fund in Sarah’s name. Donations may be made to the Memorial Fund for Sarah Friend at any Bank of America. In honor of Sarah’s life, all Albertson’s Stores in the Dallas-Fort Worth areas observed a moment of silence from 9 to 9:02 a.m. Saturday.
Sarah attended Smithfield Middle School and excelled in reading and art. Sarah loved being home with her family. She loved to draw, swim, go to movies or read a book. To know her was to love her.
She is survived by her loving parents, Luther and Laura Friend; sister, Katherine Marie Friend; grandparents, Shirley Swift of San Antonio, Robert and Joan Johnston of St. Hedwig, Russell and Sue Stout of Max Meadows, VA., Luther Friend Jr. of Ivanhoe, Va.; graet-grandma, Opal Friend of Pulaski Va.; and many aunts, uncles, cousings, friends, and her favorite dog, “Roxie.”

DRAPER – Jerry Rutter Whitehurst death by his father Roger Armistead Whitehurst, his mother Lillian Deal Whitehurst, his brothers Stanley Earl Whitehurst and Roger Cecil Whitehurst, and his sister Mary Alice Whitehurst Badham.
Mr. Whitehurst left behind to cherish his memory, his wife and companion of 61 years, Mary Eileen Tarr Whitehurst of Draper, his son Henry Armistead Whitehurst and his wife April of Christiansburg, his son Jeffrey Tarr Whitehurst of New York City, his daughter Martha Mary Bennitt Whitehurst Chapman of Roanoke, seven grandchildren: Jeremy Withers Whitehurst, Kelly Whitehurst Kreeb and her husband Bryan, Joshua Wood Chapman and his wife Anne, Mary Bennitt Chapman, Benjamin Armistead Whitehurst, Thrasher Tarr Whitehurst, Koehler Logan Whitehurst, a great grandchild Mariah Celeste Whitehurst, his sisters Thelma Louise Whitehurst Dempsey, Mildred Lee Whitehurst Cole, Peggy Ann Whitehurst Kee, and Janet Elizabeth Whitehurst Smith.
Mr. Whitehurst was a veteran of World War II serving in the United States Army and graduated from Virginia Polytechnic Institute in 1950. He spent his working life and career with American Electric Power for more than forty years, serving as Division Manager of the Abingdon and Pulaski Divisions. As a part of his career, he worked in area industrial development and among other industries located in the New River Valley helped to bring Xaloy to Pulaski, Corning to Blacksburg, and Volvo White Trucking to Pulaski County. During his outstanding career he served on the Board of Directors of many organizations to include American Electric Systems, Sovran Bank, New River Community College and the New River Community College Foundation.
A memorial service for Mr. Whitehurst will be held July 15 at 7 p.m. at the Christiansburg Baptist Church, at 2895 Roanoke Street, Christiansburg, Va. The service will be conducted by Pastor Tony Ray Johnson.
The family wishes to express their gratitude to Joyce Taylor, Joan Carter and Phyllis Bessler who provided loving private duty nursing to Mr. Whitehurst during his long illnesses and also extend a special statement of gratitude to the nurses, physicians and medical staff of Carilion New River Valley Medical Center for their professionalism and tender care during his last illness.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that a donation be made to the charity of choice.

PULASKI – Walter Madison Minter, age 64 of 1509 Overton Drive, Pulaski born August 1, 1919. Edna was preceded in death by her husband, Thomas McGraw, her husband, Edward Cicero Weaver, her father George Merriman Tice, and her mother Clara Carner Tice. She is survived by her brother, George Merriman, Jr., Tice of Boones Mill. Funeral services will be held Tuesday, July 14, 2004 at 4:00 p.m. at Mullins Funeral Home in Radford. The family will receive friends from 2:00 p.m. until the time of the service on Tuesday. Graveside services will be Wednesday at 11:00 a.m. at Sherwood Memorial Park in Salem.
