RADFORD - Jeanie Conner Miano, 63, peacefully went to rest with her Lord on Sunday, November 7, 2004 at her home in Radford. She was Interment will follow in the Sunrise Burial Park in Radford. The family will receive friends from 5:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. Tuesday at the Mullins Funeral Home in Radford.
VIRGINIA “JENNY” TURNER KANODE
PULASKI – Virginia “Jenny” Turner Kanode, age 81 of 4494 Brookmont Road, Pulaski died Nov. 7, 2004. A retired beef cattle farmer, he graduated from Pulaski High School and received his B.A. from Centre College, Danville, Ky. with a major in math and minors in French and English. He was an active life-long member of Trinity Lutheran Church. Bill served in the Army during World War II with duty in the Pacific Theater. He was a member of the Pulaski County Livestock Market, many various farm organizations and American Legion Post 007, where he served many years as Chaplain.
He was preceded in born Dec. 26, 1917.
Surviving are: his wife of 58 years, Ercell Ryan Rhudy; daughter and son-in-law, Susan and Jeff Bain; granddaughters, Erin Bain, Ellen Bain; nephew, Wally Brockmeyer; brother-in-law, Dr. Milton Brockmeyer, Greer Matthews, Tom Stone; nieces and nephews, Carolyn Willaman, Dianne Brockmeyer, Tommy Stone, Martha Lynn Wilson, Kent Hambrick, Irene Olson.
Funeral services will be held Wednesday at 11 a.m. from the Trinity Lutheran Church, Pulaski with Rev. Terri Sternberg and Rev. Gene Copenhaver officiating. Burial will follow in Oakwood Interment will follow in Sunset passed away Friday, November 5, 2004 at her home in Radford. She was a member of First Missionary Baptist Church where she served on the Usher Board. She was also a member of V. F. W. Post 1184 Auxiliary . Survivors include her husband, Adris Davis, Sr. of Radford; three children, Andrew Davis, Kendra Davis and Darnisha Davis, all of Radford; four step-children, Maria Davis of Iraq, Yonne Davis of Charlotte, NC, Somer Davis of Blacksburg, and Adris Davis, Jr. of Hampton; a brother, Castro Banks of Richmond; and a host of relatives and friends. Funeral services will be held Friday, November 12, 2004 at 2:00 p.m. at the First Missionary Baptist Church with Dr. Ronald E. Brown, Sr. officiating. died Friday November 19, 2004 at her residence. death by her first husband, James Ellis Mullins, 2 sisters; Mildred Whitt, & Kathleen Waldron, 3 brothers; Roby Delong, Kenneth Delong, & Junior Delong. She is survived by her husband, Ellis P. Yates; 1 daughter, Brenda Olinger of Draper; 1 son & daughter-in-law, James R. & Debra Mullins of Pearisburg; 2 sisters, Helen Mullins of Morristown, TN, & Elizabeth Brannock of Independence; 1 brother, Bobby Delong of Whitewood, Va.; 2 granddaughters, Tina Olinger of Draper, & Mary Reynolds of Blacksburg; 1 great granddaughter, Erika Swartz; 1 step grandson, Benjamin; special niece & Nephew, Rev. Troy Lester and his wife Shirley of Pilgrims Knob, Va. She is also survived by a host of friends & neighbors. Funeral services will be held Sunday at 3:30 p.m. at Thomas M. ANNA BELL OWENS DALTON
DUBLIN - Anna Bell Owens Dalton, age 88 of 6173 Wilderness Road, Dublin (Mt. View Community), Born June 23, 1916 in Pulaski Co., she was the daughter of the late Elizabeth Andrews Owens & Robert E. Owens. Mrs. Dalton was a lifelong resident of the Mt. View Community and a lifelong member of the Mt. View United Methodist Church. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in Interment will follow in the church death by his beloved wife, Iris Elizabeth Hall in 1994. death by a half-brother, Bill Largen of Pulaski.
Appointed by Sheriff L.R. Summers in 1963, Hall was elected to four terms as Pulaski County Sheriff. He was well-known throughout the county for his keen sense of locating stills, having been called “the nose.” His friendly wave to everyone he met with his “Hi Brudder” will never be forgotten to all who knew him.
In his early years he was a former employee of the Old Paul Knitting Mill, Farris Brothers Dairy, Town Policeman for seven years, and Deputy Sheriff for 13 years before becoming Sheriff. He attended Pulaski County School and numerous law enforcement academies during his career. Mr. Hall was a member of the National Sheriffs Association, Pulaski Democratic Party and New Hope Baptist Chapel.
Hall is survived by daughters Shirley Hall of Pulaski and Bonnie Bogardus of Seaford, Delaware and granddaughters Teena Twilley of Delmar, Maryland; Lynn Cockran of Belair, Maryland; Sharon Sapp of Salisbury, Maryland; Jeannie Beach of Newark, Delaware; and Kathy Bogardus of Pulaski. He is also survived by thirteen great-grandchildren, 11 great-great-grandchildren and five generations of family.
Funeral services will be held Tuesday at 11:00 a.m. from Stevens Funeral Chapel with Rev. Clayton Sweet of New Hope Baptist Church and Rev. Dale Akers of Peak Creek Mission of Prayer officiating. Pall bearers will be members of the Pulaski County Sheriff’s Department. A farewell Sheriffs procession will follow after the funeral down Main street, Pulaski, for a solute and a moment of silence at the Pulaski County Sheriff’s Department and then proceed to Oakwood died Thursday night, November 18, 2004, at her home. She was death by her husband, John Eckman Underwood.
Mrs. Underwood graduated from Laurens High School, Laurens, South Carolina, in 1938 and attended Winthrop College, Rock Hill, South Carolina, from 1938-1940; Spartanburg General Hospital, Spartanburg, South Carolina from 1942-1945; Duke University, Durham, North Carolina, 1949 and Radford College, Radford in 1956.
Mrs. Underwood was Staff Nurse, V.D. Center, U.S.P.H.S., Augusta, Georgia from 1945-1946; Staff Head Nurse and Clinical Instructor, Veterans Administration, Oteen, NC from 1946-1953; Staff Nurse, Red Cross Blood Bank, Ashville, North Carolina from 1953-1954; Clinical Instructor, Pulaski Hospital, Pulaski in 1954; Clinical Instructor, Radford Community Hospital, Radford from 1954-1960; Staff Nurse, CCU, Radford Community Hospital, Radford from 1971-1977; ICU Head Nurse, Pulaski Community Hospital, Pulaski from 1977-1986; and she retired October 1986.
Mrs. Underwood was a member of the New Dublin Presbyterian Church and a member of the Presbyterian Women’s Circle. She was a faithful witness to the Lord Jesus Christ.
She is survived by sons and daughters-in-law William L. and Roslie Underwood, John A. and Donna Underwood, and Robert T. and Sarah Underwood all of Dublin, Virginia; grandchildren Paul, Chuck, Mike, Angela, Daniel, Jamie, and Michael; and great-grandchildren Robbie, Austin, Kelsie, Ashlee, Addie, Michael, Jr., Jordan, and Jade.
A graveside service will be held Monday at 2 p.m. from the New Dublin Presbyterian Church died Thursday, Nov. 18, 2004 at her home.

PULASKI – J. Henry Hall of Pulaski. Former Pulaski County Sheriff died November 18, 2004.
death by her husband, Daniel J. Rooker, her brother, Robert Richter, and a grandson, Jason Rooker.
Mrs. Rooker attended Michigan State University. She founded her own dance studio when she was sixteen and was a dance instructor for Dance Masters of America. She was a professional model in Chicago and Miami. She was active in numerous charitable organizations including the Red Cross, Literacy Volunteers of America, Junior Women’s Club, and the American Heart Association. She was an avid gardener and painter. She and her husband were active in the founding and support of New River Community College. The nursing wing of NRCC and an endowed scholarship are named in her honor. She was an active member of Christ Episcopal Church in Pulaski and Church of Our Savior in Charlottesville. She served on the vestry as altar guild chairman, and Sunday school teacher at Christ Episcopal Church.
She is survived by a daughter and son-in-law, Dee Rooker Lawton and Harry Lawton of Kingsport, Tennessee, two sons and daughters-in-law, Greg and Fran Rooker of Radford, Virginia, and Dennis and Ann Rooker of Charlottesville; six grandchildren, Hal Lawton and his wife, Jodie, of Atlanta, Georgia, Jeff Lawton and his wife, Carol, of Charleston, South Carolina, Jennifer Rooker of Washington, D.C., Stephanie Rooker of Brooklyn, New York, Elizabeth Rooker Morton and her husband, Torrell, of Charlottesville, and Lauren Rooker of Brooklyn, New York; three great-grandchildren, Jared and Dylan Morton of Charlottesville, and Harrison Lawton of Atlanta; and several nieces and nephews.
The family would especially like to thank the staff on the third floor of the Health Care Center at Westminster Canterbury for their loving care and kindness to Mrs. Rooker during the past two and a half years.
A memorial service will be held on Sunday, Nov. 21 at 3 p.m. at Christ Episcopal Church in Pulaski, with a reception following in the church parish hall.
