NASHVILLE, TENN. – Michael Lester, Sr. age 56, death by his mother, Violet Lester. He is survived by his wife of 23 years, Ciciley Hoffman Lester of Nashville; sons, Mike (Becky) Lester, Jr., Clarksville, Sean Lester, Radford, Va.; father Homer J. Lester, Pulaski, Va.; grandchildren Zachary and Austin Lester, Clarksville. He was a veteran of the Vietnam War serving in the United States Army and Air Force. Graveside services will be held at 2 p.m. Tuesday, Feb. 1, 2005 at Woodlawn Memorial Park. Visitation was held from 4 – 7 p.m. Monday, Jan. 31, at Woodlawn Funeral Home, 660 Thompson Lane, Nashville, Tenn.

BARREN SPRINGS – Albert Clinton “John” Sutphin, age 73, of Barren Springs, Va. born Dec. 18, 1931 in Wythe County, son of the late Charles E. and Gracie Phillips Sutphin. He was preceded in Interment will follow in Sutphin died peacefully at home on Monday, January 31, 2005. She held a degree from Radford University in Interior Design, was a lay minister at Central United Methodist Church. She was the daughter of the late Henry Jackson Lilly and Cosby Elizabeth Bowling Lilly. She is survived by sons Johnny Tate of Carroll County and Jimmie Roger Tosh, Jr. of Pulaski; daughter Wanda Sue Fulton of Wytheville, brothers Richard Goines of Lexington, Billy Goines of Barren Springs, Jackie Goines of Austinville, Mack Goines of Max Meadows, and Ted Goines of Max Meadows; sisters Pauline Tate of Highpoint, N.C., Wilma Graveley of Stately, N.C., Nancy Combs of Liberty N.C., and Ruby Hall of Lexington, N.C.; six grandchildren; and four great grandchildren.
A private family graveside service will be held Sunday at Tate Family called home by his Lord and Savior to join his beloved wife of 54 years, Mary, in Heaven, on Sunday, February 13, 2005. He was a member of the Radford Church of Christ and was a life long farmer. Survivors include two sons, W. Lee Teel, and Gene "Bull" Teel; three grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; a brother, Don Teel, all of Christiansburg; three sisters, Irene Tolley of Nashville, TN, and Edith Phillips and Peggy Sheppard, all of Christiansburg. Funeral services will be held Tuesday, February 15, 2005 at 2:00 p.m. at the Christiansburg Church of Christ with Mr. Larry Phillips, Mr. C. E. Mannon and Mr. Dennis Curd officiating. VIRGIL RAY FRANKLIN
BLACKSBURG - Virgil Ray Franklin, 90, of Blacksburg, Interment will follow in the West View died Wednesday, February 9, 2005 in a local hospital. He was death by his second wife, Virginia Madge (Sheppard) Christian and by two sisters, Hattie Johnson and Juanita Hansen.
Mr. Christian graduated from Iaeger High School in 1939, played minor league baseball, and served six years in the Navy where he rose to the rank of Chief Bosun’s Mate. He served in the Atlantic and Pacific Theaters on the USS Texas, the Cory, and the Hudson. He also served on the USS Calypso, an escort ship for President Roosevelt’s yacht.
After the war, Mr. Christian attended Concord College then worked for Martin Marietta Corporation in Baltimore and Orlando. After retirement he lived in Orange Park, Florida and Rocky Gap, Virginia.
He is survived by two daughters and sons-in-law, Candace and Robert Richards of San Diego, CA and Rose Ann and Walter Jenny of Edmond, OK; two granddaughters and spouse, Megan Richards of San Diego, CA and Meredith Richards and Michael Whittaker of San Diego, CA; a great grandson, Russell Whittaker of San Diego, CA; two nieces and spouses, Paige and Arthur Barthlow of Florida, and T.J. and Richard Higgenbotham of Florida; and several great-nieces and nephews.
Graveside services will be held Sunday at 2 p.m. from Highland Memory Gardens, Dublin with Rev. Don Sizemore officiating. The Pulaski VFW Post #1184 will conduct the military graveside rites. Visiting will be Saturday evening at Stevens Funeral Home where the family will receive friends from 6 until 8 p.m.. BARREN SPRINGS - Carrie Lulu Goines Tosh, age 69, of Barren Springs, Virginia, Born April 17, 1935 in Avery, North Carolina, she was the daughter of the late Frank Leonard Goines and Mamie Wilma Benfield Goines. Her husband, Jimmy Roger Tosh, Sr., Son, David Tate, and brother David Goines also preceded her in Cemetery in Carroll County. Bower Funeral Chapel, Pulaski is handling arrangements for the family.
FREDERICK E. “FRED” WILLIS
PULASKI - Frederick E. “Fred” Willis, 61, of 122 Newbern Road, Pulaski born in Washington County, Virginia on February 16, 1943 and was the son of the late John Avery Willis and Ruby Neely Willis. he was an employee of Xaloy Corp, Pulaski and a member of the Draper’s Valley Presbyterian Church.
He is survived by two daughters and sons-in-law, Michelle and Rev. J.B. Kitts, Tennille, Georgia and Tammie and Ranny O’Dell, Jr., of Dublin; sister Sandra Younce, Pulaski; two brothers and sisters-in-law, Rex and Becky Willis of Pulaski and Don and Ruth Willis of Florida; four grandchildren, Austin, Brady, Aubrey, and Trip; and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held Monday at 11 a.m.. from Stevens Funeral Chapel with Rev. J.B. Kitts officiating. Burial will follow in the Highland Memory Gardens, Dublin. Visiting w ill be Sunday evening from the funeral home where the family will receive friends from 6 until 8 p.m.. ZORA ROBINETTE HILL
WYTHEVILLE – Zora Robinette Hill, age 95 of Wytheville and formerly of Bristol, TN, Born June 2, 1909 in Big Stone Gap, Va., she was the daughter of the late Eliza Collier Robinette and Jonah Robinette. She was a retired Registered Nurse with Bristol Memorial Hospital. In addition to her parents she was preceded in Interment will be held at Shelby Hills went to be with the Lord, Monday, Feb. 7, 2005 in the Appalachian Regional Hospital, Beckley, W. Va. after suffering a heart attack.
She was death by her husband, David Whitt; a sister, Edith R. Morefield; a brother, F. D. Reynolds.
She is survived by a sister, Jean R. Tate of Archdale, N. C. several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held Saturday, Feb. 12 at 12 noon at the Armstrong Funeral Home, Whitesville, W. Va. with the Rev. David Minturn officiating. Entombment will follow at Sunset Memorial Park Mausoleum, Beckley, W. Va.
Visitation will be Friday from 6 – 9 p.m. at the funeral home.
