JANUARY 20 - Luz Silveira, 99, born in Guantanamo, Cuba on May 15, 1904, a daughter of the late Emilio and Antonia Torres Montes De Oca.
She is survived by her two devoted sons, Michael Silveira and his wife, Maria of Farmville and Jorge Silveira and his wife, June of Hampden - Sydney; eight grandchildren; 16 great grandchildren and two great - great - grandchildren. "Lucy" was preceded in died Saturday, January 17, 2004.
He was funeral service will be held Wednesday at 3 p.m. at the Chapel of Shorter Funeral Home, Farmville, with Cemetery.
The family will receive friends this evening (Tuesday) from 7 to 8:30 p.m. at the funeral home.
Woodrow T. Cook, 91
JANUARY 20 - Woodrow T. Cook, 91, of Buckingham County, born October 18, 1912, a son of the late Martin L. Cook and Edna O'Brien Cook. He death.
He is survived by four children, Lois Carter and husband, Bill of Burkeville, Ann Metcalfe of Virginia Beach, Edward Cook and wife, Ann of Dillwyn and Wayne Cook and wife, Tonya of Richmond; nine grandchildren and 19 great - grandchildren.
Mr. Cook was a U.S. Mall carrier for 12 years and retired November 2, 1977 from the Virginia Department of Highways and Transportation after 25 years of service. He was a life member of Chestnut Grove Baptist Church and Chairman of the Board of Deacons for 35 years and treasurer for 48 years. Mr. Cook was a member of Masonic Lodge No. 242 In Buckingham where he was raised to a Master Mason on February 3, 1968.

She is survived by three daughters, Dorothy B. Huddleston, Helen B. Yarbrough both of Richmond and Margaret (Peggy) B. Myers of Farmville and Buckingham; four grandchildren and three great grandchildren.

RICHMOND, Jan. 20 - Mary B. Thornhill, 75, of Richmond, death by her husband, Raymond.
She is survived by her daughter, Ann Wiley and her husband, Berkeley; two grandchildren, Erica Moseley and husband. Kirk and Joseph Wiley; one great - granddaughter, Bailey Elizabeth Moseley; three brothers, Charles L. (Doc) Borum and his wife, Anna Mae, Robert Asa Borum, Jr. and his wife, Marie and Thomas J. Borum and his wife, Peggy and many other family members and friends.
Funeral services will be held 2 p.m. Thursday at Ramsey United Methodist Church with died Wednesday, January 14, 2004 at her residence. She was death by her husband of 53 years, David Carl Smith and her son, David Smith.
She is survived by two daughters, Mary S. Williamson and her husband, Gary of Victoria and Guy lie S. Greene of Green Bay; two sisters, Cretie M. Smith of Pigeon Forge, TN and Lene M. Lewis of Green Bay; three brothers, Jim McCarter of Gatlinburg, TN, Jack and Gene McCarter both of Pigeon Forge, TN; three grandchildren, Robert Greene and Marjorie Crenshaw both of Green Bay and Lisa Wilkerson of Sevierville, TN; five great grandchildren, Stephanie Crenshaw, Kimberly Crenshaw, Casey Crenshaw, Taylor McCartney and Justin McCartney and numerous nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held 2 p.m. Saturday in the Chapel of Shorter Funeral Home, Farmville, with interment in the church died Saturday, January 10, 2004 at McGuire Veterans Hospital.
He was death by his wife, Rubby Shumaker McKay.
Mr. McKay served in the United States Army and was a long time member of Farmville United Methodist Church. In 1953 he opened the Tastee - Freez, Farmville's first drive - in.He was an early pioneer in the restaurant franchise business in the state of Virginia, West Virginia and Tennessee. "Billy McKay never met a stranger".
He is survived by one son, Walter B. McKay and his wife, Nancy V. of Farmville; one daughter, Patricia McKay Harden and her husband, Russell S. of Richmond; one granddaughter, Ann - Sydney Harden of Richmond and one brother, Edward L. McKay of Farmville.
A interment in Trinity Memorial Gardens.
