RICE, Oct. 19 - Lucille Simpson Campbell, 72, of Rice, born November 10, 1931 in Prince Edward County, a daughter of the late Wlllie and Bessie Ann Atkins Simpson. She was a member of the Farmville Moose Club and a retired secretary of WFLO Radio Station after 30 years of service.
She is survived by her children, Donnie Campbell and his wife, Denise of Rice, John Alien (Peter) Campbell, III and his wife, Linda of Burkeville. LouAnn Farrar and her husband, Bobby of Amelia and Lynne Campbell of Rice; her brothers, Howard Simpson and his wife, Joan of Farmville, Charles Simpson and his wife, Anne and James Simpson and his wife, Phyllis both of Blackstone, Harry Simpson and his wife, Suzanne of Jackson Springs, NC and Clarence Simpson and his wife, June also of Blackstone; five grandchildren and one great - grandchild. She was preceded in funeral service was held Monday at 2 p.m. at the Chapel of Shorter Funeral Home with died Sunday, November 21, 2004. She was the widow of Dr. Marion Kemper Humphries, Jr., and the daughter of the late Judge and Mrs. William C. Thomas of Wytheville. She was predeceased by a sister. Czarina E. Thomas of Charlottesville.
Mrs. Humphries is survived by a son and four daughters: M. Kemper Humphries III, MD, and his wife, Jane, of Roanoke, Betty H. Williams and her husband, Jack, of Richmond, Zaida H. Meade of Sacramento, CA; Mary Nicholas Humphries and her husband. Jack Tranter, of Baltimore, MD; and Catharine H. Martin of Roanoke. Mrs. Humphries is also survived by 13 grandchildren and four great grandchildren: Mary Kemper Williams Thornton, her husband Wood, and their children Robert and Charlotte, of Richmond; Russell Gilwee of Sacramento, CA; Michael K. Humphries and his wife, Anissa, of Pittsburgh, PA; Elizabeth Graham Williams of Asheville, NC; Pettit Gilwee, her husband Ralph Turner, and their son Tavis, of Lake Tahoe, CA; Lang Williams, his wife Lucy, and their son Harrison, of Norfolk; Rebecca H. Carter and her husband Jeff of Roanoke; Brett Gilwee of New York, NY; Mary Catharine Martin of Japan and Roanoke; Rachel H. Tranter of Baltimore, MD; Martha Clay Martin of Roanoke; Matthew Tranter of Baltimore, MD; and Chip Martin of Roanoke. Additional survivors include her brother William C. Thomas and his wife Doris, of Arlington; two nephews, William Thomas of Chantilly, and Jeff Thomas of Bethesda, MD; a niece, Susan Thomas Amos of Seattle, WA; and a niece - in - law, Ann Pauley of Virginia Beach. In addition, she leaves behind numerous friends and relatives of all ages.
Mrs. Humphries was a member of the Second Tuesday Book Club, the Rivanna Garden Club, the Society of Mayflower Descendants, the Stuart Chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution, and the Junior League of Charlottesville.

She was death by a brother and sister.
A funeral service was held 2 p.m. Saturday in the Henry Funeral Home Chapel by the Rev. Bud Hall. Burial followed in Oaklawn Mausoleums and Memory Gardens.
