BURLINGTON, N.C. - Mary Emma Dallas Pegram, 90, of 1503 Sandy Cross Road, Burlington, formerly of Stonewall Springs Road, died 11:30 AM Thursday, July 11, 2002, at Alamance Regional Medical Center.
She was a daughter of W.A. and Lessie Myers Jordan, who both predeceased her.
She was married to Eldridge E. Pegram, who preceded her in death. She was a native of Caswell County and was a homemaker. She was a member of Glen Hope Baptist Church.
Survivors include, two daughters, Mrs. Ralph (Helen) Turner of Burlington and Mrs. Lessie Oliver of Corona, California; two sisters, Mrs. Eloise Bryan of Burlington and Mrs. Mildred Forsythe of Hagerstown, Md.; two brothers, Raymond Jordan of Columbia, SC and Jimmy Jordan of Danville, Va.; six grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; and five great-great-grandchildren.
The funeral will be held 1:00 PM Saturday, July 13, 2002, at The McClure Funeral Home Chapel in Graham, NC with the Rev. Bob Stephenson officiating. Interment will follow at Floral Gardens Cemetery in High Point, NC.
The family will receive friends at the McClure Funeral Home in Graham Friday evening from 6 until 8 p.m. and at other times at the home of Mrs. Helen Turner, 1503 Sandy Cross Road, Burlington.
Virginia Perry
DANVILLE, Va. - Virginia Dillon Perry, 91, of 1473 Myrtle Ave., died 11:10 a.m. Wednesday, July 10, 2002, at Stratford Health Care Center.
Born May 23, 1911, in North Carolina, she was the daughter of George Dillon and Sarah Miller Dillon.
She was married to Ralph Lee Perry, who predeceased her. She was a member of Third Avenue Christian Church and had worked for Danville Knitting Mills.
Survivors include one daughter, Jean P. Lovelace of Richmond; two grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren.
She was predeceased, in addition to her husband and parents, by two brothers, Harold T. Dillon and Frank S. Dillon; and one sister, Mildred D. Hanks.
The graveside service will be held noon Saturday at Highland Burial Park with the Rev. Freddy Vicks officiating.
The family received friends 7 to 8:30 p.m. Friday at Barker Funeral Home, 2025 North Main St. and will receive friends at other times at the residence.

George Tickle Sr.
PROVIDENCE, N.C. - George William Tickle Sr., 78, of 1508 Walters Mill Road, died Thursday, July 11, 2002, at VA Hospital in Durham.
Born April 19, 1924, in Draper, he was the son of John Tickle and Hattie Lee Jones Tickle.
He was married to Flora Wilson Tickle, who survives. He lived most of his life in Florida and the Danville, Va. area. He retired from the City of Lakeland, Fla., as groundskeeper. He was a veteran of the U.S. Navy, having served during World War II and the Korean War. He was of the Baptist faith and a member of the Fraternal Order of Redmen, Poquoson Tribe #124. He had been in declining health for several years.
In addition to his wife, survivors include three sons, George William Tickle Jr. of Pelham, David "Tony" Tickle of Blanch, and Carl Tickle of Brosville, Va.; two daughters, Candace Moore of Ruffin, and Vellanie "Suzi" Kirkland of Auburndale, Fla.; two brothers, Thomas Tickle of Danville, Va., and Lawrence Tickle of Reidsville; two sisters, Frances Hodges of Ringgold, Va. and Margie Moore of Danville, Va.; 13 grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.
He was predeceased by one son, Robert Tickle; two brothers, Carl Tickle and Howard Tickle.
The funeral will be held 2 p.m. Sunday at Community Baptist Church in Caswell County with the Rev. Mark Smith officiating. Interment will follow at the church cemetery.
The family will receive friends 7-8:30 p.m. Saturday at Swicegood Funeral Home and other times will be at the residence of Tony Tickle, 2996 Culver Road in Blanch.

Roy Atwater
YANCEYVILLE, N.C. - Roy Vincent Atwater, 85, of 2512 County Home Road, died Friday, June 28, 2002, at Duke University Medical Center following a period of declining health.
He was born in Chatham County on July 11, 1916, to David M. and Isma Andrews Atwater.
He was a member of Yanceyville Presbyterian Church, a past Rotarian, a member of the Lions Club of Siler City and co-founder of Royal Hosiery Mill of Yanceyville. He also served in the U.S. Army Air Corp during World War II.
Survivors include two sons, W. David "Chip" Atwater and Mark V. Atwater, both of Yanceyville; four grandchildren, David, Josh, Jennifer and Casey Atwater; one brother, Walter M. Atwater of Chapel Hill; and former wife, Louise M. Atwater of Yanceyville.
He was predeceased by two brothers, Bill and Al Atwater, and one sister, Eugenia Humphries.
The funeral will be Monday 11 AM at Harrelson Funeral Home Chapel with interment in Yanceyville Presbyterian Church Cemetery. The family will receive friends Sunday 6-7:30 PM at the funeral home.

CULPEPER, Va. - Talitha Grubb Blair, 95, formerly of Chatham, died June 29, 2002, at Culpeper Baptist Retirement Community.
Born May 28, 1907, in Pittsylvania County, she was the daughter of Walker Grubb and Maggie Reynolds Grubb.
She was married to Britain Blair, who predeceased her. She was a member of Hollywood Baptist Church.
The funeral will be held 11 a.m. Tuesday at Hollywood Baptist Church, with the Rev. Larry Davis officiating. Interment will follow at Grubb Family Cemetery in Chatham.

GRETNA, Va. - Audrey Mayhew Davis, 96, of 2756 Telegraph Road, died Friday, June 28, 2002, at the residence.
Born Jan. 29, 1906, in Pittsylvania County, she was the daughter of Willie Mayhew and Annie Hutcherson Mayhew.
She was married to Abraham L. Davis, who predeceased her. She was a member of Piney Grove Baptist Church and was a homemaker.
Survivors include two sons, Dan Davis of Gretna and Roy Davis of Matthews, N.C.; three daughters, Ann Mehaffey of Lynchburg, Kathleen Crews of Long Island and Christine Shelton of Gretna; 12 grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; and three great-great-grandchildren.
In addition to her mother, father and husband, she was predeceased by two sons, Vester Davis and Herbert Davis; four brothers, Harold Mayhew, Russell Mayhew, Robert Mayhew and Alvis Mayhew; and three sisters, Rena Bibb, Eula Anthony and Fleecy Rowland.
The funeral will be held 11 a.m. Monday at Colbert-Moran Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Chris Haizlip officiating. Interment will follow at Straightstone Baptist Church cemetery.

DANVILLE, Va. - James Curtis Dickerson, 74, of 460 Parker Road, died Tuesday, June 25, 2002, at the residence.
Born June 25, 1928, in Pittsylvania County, he was the son of James Dickerson and Lula Waller Dickerson.
He was employed by the Blackwell Dodge Automotive Dealership for many years.
Survivors include one son, Michael Humble of Mount Vernon, N.Y.; four sisters, Nellie Jones and Georgia Ferrell, both of Danville, Mary Ann Bluitt of Dallas, Texas, and Verlia Mae Peatross of Hampton.
He was predeceased by one brother, Alphonzo Dickerson.

NATHALIE, Va. - Louis Garner, 94, died Monday, June 24, 2002, at Woodview Nursing Home in South Boston.
Born Jan. 3, 1908, in Halifax County, he was the son of Lucy Garner and Willie Garner.
Survivors include three sisters, Mary Wanzer, Alease Williams of Baltimore, Md., and Ozelia LaPrade of Philadelphia, Pa.
The funeral will be held 1 p.m. Sunday at New Shiloh Baptist Church in Nathalie, with the Rev. Sylvester Crawley officiating. Interment will follow at the church cemetery.

CHATHAM, Va. - Virginia Land Coles, 86, of 310 Peach Street, died Sunday, Jan. 26, 2003 at Gretna Health Care Center.
Born Nov. 8, 1916, she was the daughter of Alfonso Franklin Land and Martha Evelyn Land, who predeceased her.
She was a member of Emanuel Episcopal Church.
She was married to J. Jordan Coles.
In addition to her husband, of the residence, she is survived by one son, Franklin Taylor of Martinsville; one sister, Carolyn L. McGuire of Cedar Bluff; and one brother, Carlton Land of Salisbury, N.C.
In addition to her parents, she was predeceased by one brother, Franklin Land and three sisters, Hazel L. Hardy, Helen L. Brown and Dorothy L. Robinson.
The funeral will be held 3 p.m. Tuesday at Emanuel Episcopal Church with the Rev. Dr. John S. Ruef and the Rev. James W. Mathieson officiating. Interment will be at Chatham Burial Park.

Renee Marvine Dodson
IRVINGTON, N.J. - Renee Marvine Dodson, 27, of 52-A Paine Ave., Apt. 7, died Friday, Jan. 17, 2003, as a result of complications from surgery.
Born Jan. 12, 1976, in Orange, N.J., she was a daughter of Sarah Rodgers-Dodson, who survives. She was the granddaughter of Willie and Louise Rodgers.
She attended St. Joseph Grammar School of East Orange and Union Catholic High School of Scotch Plains and was employed with the East Orange Veterans Administration. She graduated from Essex County College and the McEllis Training Institute of Orange and was employed at Valley National Bank as a Customer Service Representative for four years. In August 2002, she was employed as an Operations Administrator with Mellon Financial Corporation.
In addition to her mother and father, Frank, of Irvington, N.J., she is survived by a brother, Russ and a sister, Yakisha.
The funeral will be held noon Monday at the Chapel of Fisher and Watkins Funeral Home, Danville, Va. Interment will follow at Floral Hills Memory Gardens, Danville, Va.

Marjorie Jones Elder
DANVILLE, Va. - Marjorie Jones Elder, 69, of 500 North Pointe Lane, died Thursday, Jan. 23, 2003, at Danville Regional Medical Center.
Born Oct. 10, 1933, in Danville, she was the daughter of Ethel Jones.
She was a retired employee of Dimon Tobacco Company. She attended Christian Life Baptist Church.
She was married to Cornelius Elder, who predeceased her.
She is survived by a daughter, Audrey Trent of Danville; four grandchildren and 24 great-grandchildren.
The funeral will be held 1 p.m. Tuesday at Christian Life Baptist Church with the Rev. Cecil Bridgeforth Sr. officiating. Interment will be in Oak Hill Cemetery.

Josephine Ingram Elliott
DANVILLE, Va. - Josephine Ingram Elliott, 88, of 135 Clarkson St., died Friday, Jan. 24, 2003, at Danville Regional Medical Center after two years of declining health and one week in the hospital.
Born Feb. 20, 1914, in Pittsylvania County, she was a daughter of Green Monroe Ingram and Martha Elizabeth Hopkins Ingram.
She lived her entire life in the Danville and Pittsylvania County areas. She was a charter member of First Pentecostal Holiness Church. She was a homemaker and provided child care in her home for over 30 years.
She was the last surviving member of her generation.
She married Eggleston Carlyle Elliott Sr. on Oct. 19, 1935. He predeceased her in February 1952.
She is survived by two sons, Eggleston Carlyle "E.C." Elliott Jr. of Danville and Jerry Lea Elliott Sr. of Sanford, N.C.; a daughter, LaVera Elliott Emerson of Dry Fork; eight grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; three step grandchildren and one step great-grandchild.
She was predeceased by a son, Paul T. Elliott; a stepson, Calvin Elliott; two stepdaughters, Florence Betterton and Marie Cox; four sisters, Bessie Ingram Ricketts, Margaret Ingram Herndon, Hattie Ingram Gilbert and Susan Alice Ingram and five brothers, Homer Ingram, Everett W. Ingram, G. Carroll Ingram, James Monroe Ingram and Ernest Ingram.
The funeral will be held 2 p.m. Monday at Wrenn-Yeatts North Main Chapel with Pastor James Ward Jr. and the Rev. Earl Cox Jr. officiating. Interment will be in Highland Burial Park.

Born June 2, 1915, in Pittsylvania County, he was the son of John Holly and Minnie Overton Holly.
He was of the Baptist faith.
He is survived by one stepdaughter, Angeline Richardson of Axton; one brother, Edward Lee Holly of Louisville, Ky.; four step-grandchildren and two step-great grandchildren.
The graveside service will be held 2 p.m. Thursday at the Holly Family Cemetery with the Rev. Daryl Joyce officiating.
