George Everett Jones Sr.
DANVILLE, Va. - George Everett Jones Sr., 76, of 800 Westview Drive, died Friday, Jan. 24, 2003, at Riverside Health Care Center after six months of declining health. He had lived at the center since Nov. 11, 2002.
Born March 11, 1926, in Salem, he was a son of William Lee Jones and Nora Burton Jones.
He moved to Danville from Roanoke in 1969. He retired from Pepsi-Cola Bottling Company after 44 years of service where he worked as a Production Manager. After his retirement, he worked part time with Bryant Restaurant Equipment Company and with Commodore Homes. He was a veteran of the U.S. Navy, serving in World War II. He was of the Christian faith.
He married Bettie Robertson Jones on Sept. 3, 1949.
In addition to his wife of the residence, he is survived by a son, George E. Jones Jr. of Danville; two daughters, Sherry J. Bullington of Ringgold and Leslie J. Fisher of Danville; two brothers, Roy Jones and Robert Jones, both of Salem; a sister, Leslie J. Harris of Norfolk; five grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
The graveside funeral will be held 4 p.m. Monday at Highland Burial Park with the Rev. Lewis Harris officiating.
The family will receive friends at the residence.

Eldridge Reeves Setliff
DANVILLE, Va. - Eldridge Reeves Setliff, 78, of 215 Setliff Street, died Friday, January 24, 2003, at Avante Nursing Home, Lynchburg.
Born November 30, 1924, in Pittsylvania County, he was a son of Willie Joe Setliff Sr. and Mary Hudson Setliff, both deceased.
Mr. Setliff was in Danville Regional Medical Center for three weeks before entering the nursing home on December 23, 2002.
He spent most of his life in Danville and operated E & M Diner before retiring in 1984. He previously was associated with Fleming Trucking for 20 years and was also affiliated with the Family Business -Country Club Diner. He was of the Baptist faith.
He was first married to Agnes Perry Setliff, who predeceased him March 12, 1992. He then married Ann Macdonald Setliff, who survives.
In addition to his wife, of the residence, he is survived by two daughters, Linda S. Thomas and husband, James, of Danville and Mary S. Melton and husband, Bob, of Rustburg; a son, Eldridge "Ray" Setliff and wife, Tammy, of Danville; a sister, Lillian S. Mangrum of Troutville; two brothers, Willie Joe Setliff Jr. and Calvin G. Setliff, both of Danville; seven grandchildren, Lisa T. and Mike Jefferson, Sandy M. and Norman Mays, Jay and Jennifer Thomas, Cathy M. and David Phillips, Zac Setliff, Nick Setliff and Holley Setliff; four great-grandchildren, Lauren Brooke Renninger, Taylor Nicole Phillips, Cole Thomas Renninger and Madison Brooke Phillips.
He was predeceased by two grandchildren, Kelli Rae Setliff and Robert L. Melton Jr.
The funeral will be held 2 p.m. Monday at Swicegood Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Gilmer Setliff officiating. Interment will be in Danville Memorial Gardens.
The family received friends 7-8:30 p.m. Sunday at Swicegood Funeral Home and at other times will be at the home of his son, Ray Setliff, 162 Setliff Street, Danville.

Grace Evelyn Law Watkins
CASCADE, Va. - Grace Evelyn Law Watkins, of 13224 Martinsville Highway, died Friday, Jan. 24, 2003 at Danville Regional Medical Center.
Born in Pittsylvania County, she was the daughter of James T. Law and Julia Cabiness Law.
She was a member of Silver Creek Missionary Baptist Church.
She was married to Johnny L. Watkins
In addition to her husband, of the residence, she is survived by a daughter, Barbara W. Stroud of Danville; two brothers, Burnice Law of Danville and Woodrow Law of Cascade; four sisters, Sarah Watkins of Danville, Ethel Stone of Martinsville, Lucille Carter of Axton and Viola Jefferson of Pittsburgh, Pa.; and two grandchildren.
The funeral will be held 1 p.m. Tuesday at Silver Creek Missionary Baptist Church with the Rev. Booker George officiating. Interment will follow in Danville Memorial Gardens.
The viewing will be held 4-8 p.m. Monday at Cunningham and Hughes Funeral Home.

Willie J. Clark
RINGGOLD, Va. - Willie J. Clark, 52, of 2804 Mt. Zion Circle, died Tuesday, Nov. 12, 2002, at Duke University Medical Center in Durham, N.C.
Born April 24, 1950, in Danville, he was the son of Harry W. Clark, who predeceased him and Odaris Stephens Clark, who survives.
He had retired from Goodyear Rubber and Tire Company.
In addition to his mother, he is survived by two sons, Kelly Clark and Kevin Clark, both of Ringgold; and two sisters, Linda Gayle Clark of Ringgold and Odessa Finney of Richmond.
The funeral will be held 1 p.m. Saturday at Greater Triumph Missionary Baptist Church with the Rev. Anthony Ferebee officiating. Interment will follow in the church cemetery.

Margaret Reeder Donaldson
DANVILLE, Va. - Margaret Bayard Reeder Donaldson, daughter of Susan Fitzgerald Bourden Reeder and Andrew Horatio Reeder and preceded in death by her husband, Richard Byrd Donaldson, passed away on November 13, 2002, at the age of 75.
Survivors are her sons, Richard Byrd Donaldson Jr. and wife, Sandy of Newport News, James Andrew Donaldson and wife, Virginia of Richmond, Douglas Bayard Donaldson and wife, Kathleen of Louisville, Ky. and daughter, Margaret Donaldson Hood and Husband, Jon of Richmond, and nine grandchildren.
Peggy was a native of Big Stone Gap, resident of Danville, and a graduate of Radford College. She taught school and was active in many civic organizations, some of which include: Boy Scouts; Garden Club; The Jr. Wednesday Club; Wednesday Club; Church Women and was Budget Box co-chair at the Church of the Epiphany; State Board of Colonial Dames, Thomas Graves Chapter; the Eppes Society; board member and genealogist chairman of the Daughters of the American Revolution; Duplicate Bridge Association and the Jamestown Society. She assisted teaching the blind and tutored math students for many years. Peggy was a state legislative aide for Ken Calvert representing Danville, Va. and served on the fund raising committee for the Republican Party in Danville.
A memorial service will be held on Saturday, November 16, 2002, at 3:00 p.m. at the Episcopal Church of the Epiphany by Father James Mathieson, 115 Jefferson Street.

Betty Ann Fitzgerald
DANVILLE, Va. - Betty Ann Fitzgerald, 65, of 608 North Pointe Lane, Apt. 104, died Wednesday, Nov. 13, 2002, at Riverside Health Care Center.
Born March 3, 1937, in Danville, she was the daughter of the late Christopher Columbus Crosby and the late Betty Ann Watkins Crosby.
She was married to Conwell Fitzgerald, who preceded her in death.
Survivors include two daughters, Rentha Henderson and Cathy Holman, both of Danville; three sons, Anthony Fitzgerald of Danville; Carl Fitzgerald of Charlottesville and Jerome Fitzgerald of Beavers, W.Va.
The funeral service will be 2 p.m. Sunday at Silver Creek Baptist Church with the Rev. Booker George officiating. Interment will follow in Highland Burial Park.

James Woodworth Farrington
HALIFAX, Va. - James Woodworth Farrington, 75, of 389 Mountain Road, died Nov. 15, 2002, at Halifax Regional Medical Center.
Born Oct. 2, 1927, in Aurora, Ill., he was the son of John Dow Farrington and Mary Canby Farrington.
He was a member of St. John's Episcopal Church.
He was married to Mildred Evans Farrington, who survives.
In addition to his wife of Halifax, he is survived by a daughter, Canby F. Johnston of Ft. Lauderdale, Fla.; three sons, James W. Farrington Jr. of Chesapeake, Stephen Todd Farrington of Tullahoma, Tenn. and John Evans Farrington of Halifax; a brother, John D. Farrington Jr. of Hilton Head, S.C.; a sister, Dorothy F. Aishton of Naples, Fla.; and four grandchildren.
The funeral will be held 2 p.m. Monday at St. John's Episcopal Church with the Rev. David Booher officiating. Interment will be in the church cemetery.

Fielding 'Felix' Kinley Funk
DANVILLE, Va. - Fielding "Felix" Kinley Funk, 86, of 28 Vandola Road, died Friday, Nov. 15, 2002, at Riverside Health Care Center.
Born May 23, 1916, in Fries, he was the son of Ernie William Funk and Ollie Bedwell Funk.
He had lived in Danville since 1934. He was a supervisor at Dan River Mills and retired in 1981 with 50 years of service. He was a member of Vandola Baptist Church and the Dan River Retiree's Club.
He was married to Estelle Teague Funk, who survives.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by a daughter, Cathy Lee Labiak of High Point, N.C.; a son, Gerald Wayne Funk Sr. of Goose Creek, S.C.; a sister, Mildred Layne of Woodlawn; a brother, Rex C. Funk of Fries; six grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.
He was predeceased by three sisters, Marie Radford, Virginia Kirby and Alene Carrico.
The graveside funeral will be held 2 p.m. Sunday at Danville Memorial Gardens Mausoleum with the Rev. Dr. Leroy Clack officiating.

BLAIRS, Va. - Clara Fitzgerald-Harston, 68, of 2545 Malmaison Road, died Wednesday, Nov. 13, 2002, at her residence.
Born Aug. 20, 1934, in Pittsylvania County, she was the daughter of Jacob and Elizabeth Palmer Fitzgerald.
She was a member of Shockoe Baptist Church, the Missionary Society, Community Outreach and Courts of Calanthe. She was retired from Danville Regional Medical Center.
She was the wife of Willie Harston.
She is survived by a daughter, Vanessa Harston-Hall of Newport News; three sons, Michael Harston, Brian Harston, both of Danville and Philip Harston of Newport News; two brothers, Mervin Fitzgerald of Blairs and Jessie Fitzgerald of Java; five sisters, Dian F. Wise of Brooklyn, N.Y., Romona F. Jones of Chester, Pa., Patricia F. Jones of Java, Irene F. Logan of Chester and Pamela F. Cooper of Columbus Height; seven grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.
The funeral will be held noon Monday at Shockoe Baptist Church with the Rev. Kevin McNeill officiating. Interment will be in the church cemetery.

Willie Harston
BLAIRS, Va. - Willie Harston, 73, of 2545 Malmaison Road, died Wednesday, Nov. 13, 2002, at his residence.
Born Sept. 8, 1930, in Pittsylvania County, he was the son of Lonnie and Addie Anderson Harston.
He was of the Baptist faith and a veteran of the Korean conflict. He was a self-employed barber and general contractor.
He was married to Clara F. Harston.
He is survived by two daughters, Vanessa Harston-Hall of Newport News and Thelma Gill of New York; three sons, Michael Harston, Brian Harston, both of Danville and Philip Harston of Newport News; three sisters, Thelma H. Fitzgerald, Polkie H. Fitzgerald, both of Java and Marie Stephens of Petersburg; seven grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.
The funeral will be held noon Monday at Shockoe Baptist Church with the Rev. Kevin McNeill officiating. Interment will be in the church cemetery.

Woodrow Wilson Neal
DANVILLE, Va. - Woodrow Wilson Neal, 79, of 364 Ripley Drive, died Thursday, Nov. 14, 2002, at the Danville Regional Medical Center after five years of declining health.
Born May 27, 1923, in Gretna, he was the son of George Neal and Ossie Neal Neal.
He lived his life in Pittsylvania County and Danville. He was employed with Flowers Bakery and was manager of the Thrift Store, retiring after 40 years of service. He received a 40 year service award from Flowers Bakery. He was a member of Payneton United Methodist Church, past member of American Legion Post 1097, VFW and a member of the National Disabled American Veterans. He was also a member of the Modern Woodmen for 52 years.
He was a staff sergeant in the U.S. Army during World War II and served in the 44th Infantry Division with the 71st Infantry Regiment. He received the Medaille Du Jubile, the Bronze Star, the Good Conduct Medal, Combat Infantry Medal and a Purple Heart.
He married Martha Worley Neal on Feb. 20, 1947.
In addition to his wife of the residence, he is survived by a son, Duane Wilson Neal of the residence; two sisters, Mary Neal Dalton of Gretna and Margaret Neal Lefebvre of Fort Walton Beach, Fla.; and a brother, John W. Neal of Chatham.
He was predeceased by five sisters, Sally Neal Hamlett, Ethel Neal Montgomery, Polly Neal, Viola Neal Dalton and Barbara Ann Neal; and two brothers, Albert T. Neal and George W. Neal Sr.
The funeral will be held 2 p.m. Sunday at Wrenn-Yeatts Westover Chapel with the Rev. Thomas R. Boggs officiating. Interment will be in Danville Memorial Gardens with military honors by American Legion Post 325.

DANVILLE, Va. - Ionie Hartridge Richardson, 65, of 645 Shelton Street, died Wednesday, Nov. 13, 2002, at Danville Regional Medical Center.
Born May 15, 1937, in Danville, she was the daughter of the late Ernest Hartridge and Margaret Ferrell Hartridge.
She was employed by Richmond Cedar Works for many years.
She is survived by her husband, Walter Richardson; one daughter, Wanda Gail White of Providence, N.C.; one sister, Bessie Walters of Danville; and one brother, Clifton Hartridge of Danville.
A funeral service will be held 2 p.m. Sunday at the Fisher and Watkins Funeral Home Chapel with Dr. Frankie Jones officiating. Interment will follow in Floral Hills Memory Gardens Cemetery.
