MILTON, N.C. - Phyllis Wilson, 43, of 2273 Hwy. 57 North, died Tuesday, Nov. 12, 2002, in Lynchburg, Va.
Born March 7, 1959, in Danville, Va., she was the daughter of Clarence Wilson and Willie Mae Wilson Farmer.
In addition to her father of New York and her mother of Milton, she is survived by five sisters, Sheila Hairston and Wanda Standfield, both of Danville, Va.; Lemettris Johnson and Rita Connally, both of Milton; Jacqueline Smith of Raleigh; and one brother, John Wilson of Japan.
The funeral will be held 2 p.m. Saturday at Fisher and Watkins Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Floyd Standfield officiating. Interment will follow at Floral Hills Memory Gardens.
The family will receive friends at the residence of her sister, Wanda Standfield, 724 Temple Ave., Danville, Va.

Dorothy Hodnett
RINGGOLD, Va. - Dorothy Bane Hodnett, 87, of 505 Hillside Drive, died Saturday, March 23, 2002 at the residence.
Born June 3, 1914 in Halifax County, she was a daughter of J.W. Bane and Berta Moorefield Bane.
She was married March 26, 1937, to Edward Morrison Hodnett, who survives. She was a member of Kentuck Baptist Church and lived in the Glenwood community of Pittsylvania County. She had been a resident of Kentuck since 1978. She was retired from Dan River Mills Inc., where she worked as an inspector.
Survivors, in addition to her husband, include two daughters, Nancy H. Eanes of Dunwoody, Ga. and Lena H. Kent of Ringgold; two sons, Samuel M. Hodnett and Jack B. Hodnett, both of Ringgold; three brothers, J.W. Bane and Lacy Bane, both of Vernon Hill, and Woody Bane of Halifax; 11 grandchildren; and 14 great-grandchildren.
She was predeceased, in addition to her parents, by two brothers, Kermit Bane and James Edward Bane, and one sister, Lillian Bane.
The funeral will be held at 2 p.m. Monday at Kentuck Baptist Church with the Revs. Dr. A.C. Smith and Carl Burger officiating. Interment will follow at Highland Burial Park.
The family will receive friends from 2-4 p.m. Sunday at Kentuck Baptist Church and at other times at the residence.

Leonard Howard
THOMASVILLE, N.C. - Leonard L. Howard, 78, of 310 Fritts Drive, died Friday, March 22, 2002 at the residence.
Born March 2, 1924, he was a son of George Edward Howard and Alma Cassada Howard.
He was first married to Mary Ethel Daniel Howard Sakellaris, who survives, then to Gloria Maree Taylor McKinney Nostrandt Howard, who predeceased him, and then most recently to Ruth Elaine Pierce Summit Howard, who also predeceased him. He was an iron worker and boilermaker for Babcock and Wilcox and a veteran of World War II, during which he served with the U.S. Navy in the Pacific Theater. He was a member of Oak Grove Primitive Baptist Church, where he served as a deacon. He was also a member of VFW Post #647 and the International Brotherhood of Boilermakers.
Survivors, in addition to his first wife, include three daughters, Elizabeth "Becky" N. Pippen of Danville, Va. and Susan N. Jones and Terri N. Lingle, both of Thomasville; two sons, Joseph Thomas KcKinney of Gretna, Va. and Richard "Ricky" E. Nostrandt of Ringgold, Va.; one brother, Gerald Howard of Danville, Va.; 14 grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.
He was predeceased, in addition to his parents and second and third wives, by one daughter, Mary Lea Howard Mahaley Myers; two brothers, George Edward Howard Jr. and Kenneth Clinton Howard; and one sister, Helen Gloria Howard.
The funeral will be held at 2 p.m. Tuesday at Swicegood Funeral Home Chapel with Elder Johny Ray Gardner officiating. Interment will follow at Danville Memorial Gardens with military honors by American Legion Dan River Post #1097.

Jessica McCain
KEELING, Va. - Jessica Carol McCain, 21, of 8841 Old Richmond Road, died Friday, March 22, 2002 from injuries sustained in an automobile accident.
Born Sept. 27, 1980 in Danville, she was a daughter of W. Phillip McCain and Janice Gosney McCain, who survive.
She was a member of Kentuck Presbyterian Church, where she served in the choir. She was also a 1998 graduate of George Washington High School. She was a senior at Virginia Commonwealth University in Richmond, where she attained dean's list status and was a National Dean's List Scholar in 2000 and 2001. She was a member of the Richmond Philharmonic Orchestra, the Virginia Commonwealth University Orchestra and the Strings Ensemble. She was also a member of the Danville Symphony Orchestra.
Survivors, in addition to her parents, include one sister, Agatha Gaile McCain of the residence; one brother, Joseph Phillip McCain of the residence; and one grandmother, Geraldine C. Gosney of Keeling.
The funeral will be held at 2 p.m. Monday at the Townes Funeral Home Memorial Chapel with the Revs. Jeffrey L. Wright and Dr. O. Neal McCarter officiating. Interment will follow at the Gosney family cemetery in Keeling.

Clarence Wade
SEMORA, N.C. - Clarence L. Wade, of Semora, died Tuesday, March 19, 2002 at Duke Medical Center in Durham.
Born in Person County, he was a son of Jim and Violet Wade.
He was married to Lois S. Wade, who predeceased him.
Survivors include one daughter, Marie Wade Callender of Mt Vernon, N.Y.; two sons, Clarence B. Wade and Jerry A. Wade, both of Semora; two sisters, Lois Mason and Jewel Cunningham, both of Semora; two sisters-in-law; and two grandchildren.
The funeral will be held at 1 p.m. Monday at Chestnut Grove Baptist Church with the Rev. Floyd Standfield officiating. Interment will follow at New Bethel Baptist Church in Alton, Va.

DANVILLE, Va. - Ila Lois Hoover Everett, age 96, formerly of Charlotte, N.C. and more recently of Stratford House in Danville, VA., died Sunday, June 30, 2002 while in Roman Eagle Memorial Home.
Born on December 5, 1906 in Mecklenburg County, N.C. the daughter of George Lafayette Hoover and Margaret Emma Robinson Hoover.
She was a graduate of Queens College in Charlotte, N.C. She taught school in Troy and Pittsboro, N.C. and also in Nevin and Derita Schools in Mecklenburg County, N.C.
She was married in 1933 to George Henry Everett, Jr., who predeceased her.
She was a member of the Piedmont Patriots Chapter D.A.R. in Charlotte.
She was a member of the Sardis Presbyterian Church in Charlotte, N.C. and a former member of Sugar Creek Presbyterian Church in Charlotte.
Survivors include her daughter, Carol Everett Strange and her husband, Dr. Charlton Bell Strange, Jr. of Danville, VA., a son, Robert Hamilton Everett and his wife, Joyce Igou Everett of Hartsville, S.C.; grandchildren, Charlton Bell Strange III and his wife, Pamela Neagley Strange of Charleston, S.C. and Elizabeth Strange Mahaffey and her husband, R. Peyton Mahaffey of Oak Hill, VA, Robert Hamilton Everett, Jr. and Eric Swain Everett both of Charlotte, N.C.; three great-grandchildren, and a brother, George Robinson Hoover and his wife, Dorothy H. Hoover of Charlotte, N.C.

Margaret ‘Maggie' Foster
DANVILLE, Va. - Margaret "Maggie" Mays Foster, 90, formerly of 155 Canterbury Road, died Sunday, June 30, 2002, at Roman Eagle Memorial Home.
Born Sept. 8, 1911, in Pittsylvania County, she was the daughter of Walter Wilson Mays and Tedalou McDowell Mays.
She was married to Julian L. Foster, who predeceased her April 24, 1995. She was educated in the Boyton Public Schools and was a graduate of the Danville Memorial School of Nursing as a registered nurse. She was employed as a nursing supervisor for Danville Memorial Hospital and was employed as a nurse with Dr. C.W. Pritchett and Dr. Harry Pritchett for 25 years. She was later a nurse for the Stratford College Infirmary. She was a member of West End Christian Church.
Survivors include one son, Dr. Julian L. Page Foster of Greenville, S.C.; two brothers, Charles William Mays and Walter Calvin Mays, both of Danville; one sister, Helen James of Newton, N.C.; two grandchidren; and one great-granddaughter.
She was predeceased by one sister, Ann Wilkerson and one brother, Herbert Mays.
The funeral will be held 11 a.m. Wednesday at West End Christian Church with the Rev. June Haislip officiating. Interment will follow at Mountain View Cemetery.

Otway Edward Hatcher
GOOCHLAND COUNTY, Va. - Otway Edward Hatcher passed away at his residence, Midway Farm, in Goochland County at the age of 92.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Thelma Altice Hatcher.
Mr. Hatcher is survived by his daughters, Michaelle Taylor and her husband Robert (North Carolina); Donna Scott and her husband, Jim (Goochland County); and son Ned Hatcher and his wife, Jennifer (Richmond); a granddaughter, Leigh Strawderman and two grandsons, Ryan and Shannon Hatcher; and Ryan and Shannon's mother, Brenda Hatcher.
Graveside services will be held Tuesday, July 2, 2002 at 1:00 p.m. in Mountain View Cemetery by the Rev. David Abernathy.

Stephen Lillard
LYNCHBURG, Va. - Stephen Allen Lillard, 31, of 1124 Lindsay St., died Sunday, June 30, 2002, at Danville Regional Medical Center due to an automobile accident on Mount Cross Road.
Born Oct. 8, 1970, in Danville, he was the son of Julian Allen Lillard and Maria Eanes Lillard.
He was married to Gwendolyn Cheryl Lillard, who survives.
He was a graduate of Tunstall High School and had worked as an auto mechanic. He was co-founder of Route 1 Bluegrass Band, which has been a regular on television for five years. He was also a member of the International Blue Grass Music Association and a distributor for Deering Banjo Co. He was a member of Willis Memorial Baptist Church in Cascade.
Survivors include one son, Stephen Clay Lillard of Cascade; paternal grandmother, Lottie Allen Lillard of Cascade; one sister, Julie Lillard of Chester; and two stepchildren, Brooke Ray and John Luke Ray, both of Lynchburg.
The family will receive friends at 1237 Cascade Road in Cascade.

Joshua Powell
DANVILLE, Va. - Joshua Wayne Powell, 16, of 499 Corning Drive, died Saturday night, June 29, 2002, at the Duke University Medical Center in Durham, N.C. He had been in declining health for two years.
Born Sept. 7, 1985, in Portsmouth, he was a son of Mark A. Powell and Angela Rigney Wilkerson, who both survive.
He had lived in Danville most of his life and was a 10th grade student at George Washington High School and an active member of the J.R.O.T.C.
Survivors, in addition to his father of Philadelphia and his mother of the residence, include one stepfather, Butch Wilkerson of the residence; one stepmother, Cindy Powell of Philadelphia; one maternal grandmother, Beulah Rigney of Brosville; and paternal grandparents, Phil and Gloria Shelton of Blairs; one brother, Tony R. Powell of Danville; three stepbrothers, Joey Wilkerson and Timmy Wilkerson, both of Danville, and Allen Wilkerson of the residence; one stepsister, Michelle Wilkerson of New York; one half sister, Miriam Powell of Philadelphia; one half brother, Sammy Powell of Philadelphia; and paternal great-grandmother, Helen Arnold of Danville.

DANVILLE, Va. - Edmond Swann Jr., 66, of 414 Gay St., died Sunday, June 30, 2002, at the residence.
Born June 10, 1935, in Danville, he was the son of Edmond Swann and Ruby Brown Swann.
He was married to Evangelist Janie Swann, who survives. He was employed by Dan River Inc. prior to a decline in health.
In addition to his wife, survivors include one daughter, Tina Swann of Danville; three sons, Barry Swann, David Swann and Jerome Swann, all of Danville.
He was predeceased by one daughter, Sylvia Carrington.
A graveside service will be held noon Wednesday at Danville Memorial Gardens with the Rev. Jasper Watkins officiating.

Robert Trost
DANVILLE, Va. - Robert "Bob" Trost, 64, of 610 Hughes St., died Friday, June 28, 2002, at the residence.
Born June 19, 1938, in McKees Rocks, Pa., he was the son of Thelma Stokes Trost, who survives, and Herman R. Trost.
He lived most of his life in Pittsburgh until moving to Danville three years ago. He was employed as a printer with R&J Publishing Company in Pittsburgh and was a veteran of the U.S. Air Force during the Vietnam War. He had been in declining health for one year.
Survivors include four sons, Eric Trost of Florida, Daniel Trost of Neptune, N.J., James Trost of St. Louis and Lee Trost of Pelham, N.C.; one sister, Carol Gorra of Pittsburgh; and three grandchildren.
A graveside service will be held 4 p.m. Tuesday at Pelham United Methodist Church cemetery in Pelham, N.C. with the Rev. Jack Wallace officiating.
The family will receive friends at the residence of Lee Trost, 1223 Newnam Road in Pelham, N.C.

Rev. Frank E. Washburn, Sr.
DANVILLE, Va. - On Sunday, June 30, 2002, Rev. Frank E. Washburn, Sr. entered into his eternal rest.
Rev. Washburn served God as a pastor for 45 years. He pastored Methodist churches for 9 years, including a three-point charge in Woolwine, VA and St. Paul's Methodist in Rocky Mount, NC. In 1955 he founded the First Methodist Temple in Danville, VA and pastored there until his retirement in 1990. During his career, he was a noted evangelist and author of numerous books.
Rev. Washburn received his T.H.B. from John Wesley College, A.B. from Lynchburg College and also attended Asbury College.
He was the son of the late Nathaniel Ira Washburn and Dora Ella Stone Washburn. His first wife, Helen Vincent Washburn, passed away in 1945. Survivors include his wife, Dorothy Reed Washburn; son, Frank E. Washburn, Jr. of Chattanooga, TN; grandsons, Dr. Frank E. Washburn, III of Cleveland, OH, and Reaves Avery Washburn of Chattanooga, TN; a brother, The Rev. Burl A. Washburn of Eden, NC; a sister, Lucille Robinson of Danville, VA.
