LYNCHBURG, Va. - Lois Woodson Glass, 71, died Sunday July, 28, 2002, at her residence.
Born Feb. 16, 1931, in Sutherland, she was the daughter of Ira Woodson and Mary Elizabeth Hawker Woodson.
She was married to Garland Winford Glass, who predeceased her. She was retired from General Electric and was a member of Beulah Baptist Church.
She is survived by one son, Eugene Garland Glass of Lynchburg; one daughter, Brenda Glass Brumback of Manassas; one brother, Roy Woodson of Danville; and three grandchildren.
The funeral will be held 2 p.m. Tuesday in the chapel of Heritage Funeral Service. The Rev. Dr. Maurice T. McCarthy Jr. will be officiating. Interment will follow in Fort Hill Memorial Park.
The family will receive friends 12:30-2 p.m. Tuesday at Heritage Funeral Home and other times at the residence.

Lorena Jones
DANVILLE, Va. - Lorena Jones, 44, of 331 East Thomas Street, died Thursday, July 25, 2002, at Danville Regional Medical Center.
Born July 7, 1958, she was the daughter of Harvey Lee Williams, who predeceased her, and Helen G. Terry, who survives.
She was formerly married to Barry Jones.
Survivors, in addition to her mother, include, two sons, Dowayne A. Carter and Wendell Carter, both of Danville; three brothers, Lawrence Terry, Tony Smith, and Antonio Leftwich, all of Danville; and eleven sisters, Loretta Davis, Valeria Terry, Jean Harris, Jackie Williams, Christine Price, Patricia Childress, Marilyn Williams, Debra Garland, Audrey Bennett, Debra Bennett, and Christy Brown, all of Danville.
The funeral will be held at 2 p.m. Monday at Fisher and Watkins Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. George Lovelace officiating. Interment will follow at Highland Burial Park.
The family will receive friends at the residence.

Blanche Lewis
HALIFAX, Va. - Blanche Campbell Lewis, 85, of 1012 Mountain Road, died July 28, 2002, at her home.
Born July 22, 1917, in Hanover County, she was the daughter of Daniel Elliott Campbell and Emma Beazley Campbell.
She was married to W.M. Lewis. She was a member of St. Johns Episcopal Church.
In addition to her husband of the residence, she is survived by two daughters, Catherine Lewis Maxwell of Charlotte, N.C., and Dorothy Lewis Dabney of Deland, Fla.; two sons, Richard Fielding Lewis of Fredericksburg and William Wardwell Lewis of Houston, Texas; and seven grandchildren.
She was predeceased by three sisters, Dorothy Elizabeth Campbell, Mildred Campbell Broome and Catherine Campbell Wright; and one brother, Daniel Edward Elliott Campbell.
The funeral will be held 2 p.m. Wednesday at St. Johns Episcopal Church with the Rev. David L. Booher officiating. Interment will follow at the church cemetery.
The family will receive friends at the residence.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggest memorials be made to St. Johns Episcopal Church Memorial Fund.

Gerald Moorefield
NATHALIE, Va. - Gerald Thomas Moorefield, 43, of 3071 Acorn Road, died July 27, 2002, at his home.
Born May 6, 1959, in Halifax County, he was the son of George Manley Moorefield Sr., who predeceased him, and Alease Pickeral Moorefield, who survives.
He was married to Brenda Singleton Moorefield.
In addition to his mother of Red Oak and his wife of the residence, he is survived by one stepdaughter, Laurie Crews of Halifax; three sisters, Fernanda Queensberry and Peggy Morgan, both of Chase City, and Carolyn Moore of Portsmouth; three brothers, George Moorefield Jr. of Halifax, Tim Moorefield and Robert Moorefield, both of Red Oak; and several nieces and nephews.
In addition to his father, he was predeceased by one sister, Deborah McKinney.
The funeral will be held 2 p.m. Tuesday at Powell Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Sam Russell officiating. Interment will follow at Woodland Cemetery in Chase City.

Mary Oakes
CASCADE, Va. - Mary F. Oakes, 87, formerly of Route 1, Box 1346, died Friday, July 26, 2002, at Roman Eagle Memorial Home following one year of declining health.
Born Sept. 12, 1914, in Pittsylvania County, she was the daughter of George H. Oakes and Maggie Hardy Oakes.
She lived all of her life in the Brosville Community of Pittsylvania County, and was a lifelong member of Brosville United Methodist Church. She worked for 35 years at Dan River Inc.
She is survived by a number of nieces and one nephew.
She was predeceased by two sisters, four brothers, one nephew and one niece.
The funeral will be held 11 a.m. Tuesday at Brosville United Methodist Church with the Rev. Edward A. Roland officiating. Interment will follow at the Hardy Family Cemetery on Stoney Mill Road.
The family will receive friends 7-8:30 p.m. Monday at Swicegood Funeral Home Chapel.

Seward J. Wilson Jr.
DANVILLE, Va. - Seward J. Wilson Jr., 78, of 240 Lady Astor Place, died Sunday, July 28, 2002, at the VA Medical Center at Durham, N.C.
He was born January 9, 1924, in Durham, N.C., a son of Seward J. Wilson and Minnie Carter Wilson. On February 14, 1953, he was married to the former Inez Marguerite English, who died June 4, 1999.
He attended George Washington High School and the Randolph Macon Military Academy, Front Royal, Va., and graduated from the Richmond Public School System following his return from military service.
Mr. Wilson volunteered for the U.S. Army in World War II and served as a medic in the 26th Infantry Division, attached to the Third Army in the European Theater of Operation. He carried four battle stars during 210 days of combat and was awarded the Bronze Star medal "for meritorious service in connection with military operations against an enemy of the United States in Eastern France, Luxembourg and Germany between October 6, 1944 and May 8, 1945".
Following his return to Danville, he worked in the shoe department of Frances Kahn's. He later joined his father's business, Danville Dental Laboratory, Inc. and served as president of the firm until his retirement in 1984. He also served as president of the Virginia State Dental Laboratory Association from 1958-1959 and was a charter member of the Certified Dental Technicians of the USA. After his retirement from the Danville Dental Laboratory, he became the distributor for USA Today in Danville, South Boston and Roxboro, N.C., a position he held for almost 14 years, until retiring again in November 1998.
In civic activities, he was a member of the Danville Jaycees and served as Chairman and Campaign Director for the 1952 March of Dimes campaign conducted in Danville. He had been active with the YMCA and the Indian Guides program. He was a member of the American Legion Post 325.
Mr. Wilson was a member of the First Baptist Church of Danville and had served as a Sunday school teacher.
He is survived by a daughter, Marguerite Veniece Burlage of Virginia Beach; a son, Seward J. Wilson III of Jacksonville, N.C.; a brother, Harold N. Wilson of Danville; a grandson, Cougar James Wilson of Boynton Beach, Fla.; a nephew, Andrew Wilson of Danville; a niece, Elizabeth Wilson of Danville; and three cousins, Mary Jones, Mary Elinor Jones, and Betsy Jones Fletcher, all of Durham, N.C.

PENHOOK, Va. - Gary Thomas Adams, age 42, of 380 Hatchett Road, Penhook, died Saturday, May 11, 2002.
Born May 10, 1960 in Danville, he was a son of Lucille Crews Adams of Penhook and the late Carlton Edward "Buddy" Adams. He was an employee of Ferguson Land and Lumber Company, Inc.
In addition to his mother he is survived by four brothers, Wayne Adams of Penhook, Bill Adams of Bassett, Donnie Jones of Penhook and William Jones of Spring Garden; five sisters, Gale Pyrtle of Danville, Rachel Hudson of Milton, NC, Debra Walker of Penhook, Earlene Bartee of Danville and Nancy Elkin of Broswell; four grandchildren, Chelsey Martin, Jasmine Witcher, Miracle Tallent and Tristan Montgomery; many nieces and nephews, including a special niece and nephew, Alley DeShazo and Daniel Hutson.
Funeral services will be conducted 2:00 p.m. Wednesday, May 15, 2002 at Colbert-Moran Chapel by Rev. Robert B. Montgomery and Rev. Bobby Adams. Burial will follow in the Shelton Family Cemetery.

Bertha Blevins
DANVILLE, Va. - Bertha Sue Adams Blevins, 51, of 5020 Ridgewood Drive, died Suday, May 12, 2002 at Danville Regional Medical Center.
Born August 30, 1950 in Pikeville, Ky., she was a daughter of Alvis Adams and Elmo Branham Adams, who both survive.
She was married to Donald J. Blevins, who survives. She lived her entire life in Danville and was of the Baptist faith. She attended Brush Arbor Baptist Church.
Survivors, in addition to her husband of the residence and her parents of Pikeville, Ky., include two sons, Jackie Dwayne Blevins of South Carolina and Sgt. Steven Derick Blevins of U.S. Army Fort Hood, Texas; one daughter, Jennifer Renee Blevins of Danville; two sisters, Ersa York of Richmond, Ky. and Loretta Little of Pikeville, Ky.; two brothers, William Adams of White Lake, Mich. and Roger Adams of Pikeville, Ky.; and six grandchildren.
The funeral will be held 2 p.m. Thursday at Wrenn-Yeatts Westover Chapel with the Revs. J.B. Baldridge and Stephen Lamb. Interment will follow at Danville Memorial Gardens.

Randall Bowman
SUTHERLIN, Va. - Randall Lane Bowman, 35, of 1121 White Ridge Road, died Sunday, May 12, 2002 at Medical College of Virginia in Richmond.
Born February 14, 1967, he was a son of Joseph Roosevelt Bowman and Joyce Sheets Bowman, who both survive.
Mr. Bowman lived most of his life in Danville and was of the Holiness faith. He was a self employed furniture maker. He had been in declining health for one year.
Survivors, in addition to his parents, include one brother, Richard Lynn Bowman of Ringgold, Va.; one sister-in-law, Debbye Bowman, of Ringgold, Va.; one sister, Rhonda Leigh Bowman, of Danville; seven uncles, Allen Bowman, Russell Bowman, Arian Bowman, Daniel Bowman, and Albert Bowman, all of Danville, Bryant Sheets of West Virginia, and Hebert Bowman of Taswell, Va.; and three aunts, Sandy Wilkerson, Wanda Arnold, and Jane Shields, all of Danville, Va.

Howard Brachman
DANVILLE, Va. - Howard F. Brachman, 100, of 480 West Main Street, Apt. B2, Danville, VA died Saturday, May 11, 2002 at his residence.
Born November 1, 1901 in Middleport, PA, he was a son of John Brachman and Sophia Kreis Brachman, both deceased.
He was married May 29, 1924 to Kathryn M. Lewis Brachman, who predeceased him. Mr. Brachman lived in Pennsylvania until he retired in 1968 and has lived in Danville for 32 years. He worked for Jeddo Highland Coal Company and retired after 45 years of service.
Survivors include one daughter-in-law, Patricia M. Brachman of Danville, VA; two granddaughters, Rachel Brachman of Danville and Linda Woodard of Blairs; three great-grandsons, Jason Brachman of Charleston, SC, and Patrick Woodard and Tristan Woodard, both of Blairs; and a number of nieces and nephews.
He was predeceased, in addition to his wife and parents, by one son, Dr. Russell C. Brachman, three brothers and four sisters.
The graveside service will be held at 11:00 a.m. Tuesday, May 14, 2002 at Danville Memorial Gardens with the Rev. Jonathan L. Bennett officiating.
The family received friends Monday, May 13, 2002 from 7:00 to 8:30 p.m. at Swicegood Funeral Home and will receive friends at other times at the home of the daughter-in-law, Patricia Brachman, 139 Pendleton Road, Danville, VA.

BROOKLYN, N.Y. - Cornelia D. "Connie" Cobbs, 43, of Rutland Nursing Home in Brooklyn, died Thursday, May 9, 2002 in Brooklyn.
Born June 15, 1958, she was a daughter of Andrew L. Cobbs and Margaret Crews Cobbs, who both survive.
She was a medical secretary before her injury.
Survivors, in addition to her parents of Brooklyn, include one sister, Betty Thomas of Danville, Va.; and two brothers, Donald Crews and Ricky Cobbs, both of Danville, Va.

Sherry Farmer
GRETNA, Va.- Sherry Chambers Farmer, 40, of 641 Millstream Road, Gretna, Va. passed Saturday, May 5, 2002 in Danville Regional Medical Center.
Born December 11, 1961 in Lynchburg, she was the daughter of Howard and Margaret Phyllis Musgrove, who survive.
She was married to Daryl W. Farmer, who survives. She served in the U.S. Airforce for a short period of time and was a member of Elba Baptist Church where she sang in the mass choir and was a former usher.
Survivors, in addition to her parents of Gretna and her husband of Ringgold, include one daughter, Dameda Farmer of the residence; one son, Howard Jerrod Chambers of the U.S. Navy stationed in Japan; and one sister, Rorrie Whitney of Fort Washington, Md.
The funeral will be held 1 p.m. Thursday at Elba Baptist Church with the Rev. B. I. Baize officiating. Interment will follow at the Carl O. Moran Memorial Park in Gretna.

George Jones
VINTON, Va. - The Reverend Dr. George Wesley Jones, 83, of Vinton, Virginia, died on Tuesday, May 7, 2002. A prominent United Methodist minister in the Virginia Conference, Dr. Jones was semi-retired and for the past seventeen years served as the Associate Minister at Thrasher Memorial United Methodist Church in Vinton, VA.
Son of the late William and Sallie Jones of Norfolk, he was preceded in death by a brother Carroll Jones and sister Thelma Jones of Norfolk. Dr. Jones received degrees from Randolph-Macon College and Duke Divinity School, and was awarded an honorary doctorate from Randolph-Macon. He served the following churches in the Virginia Conference; Christ Church, Norfolk; Norview, Norfolk; High Street, Petersburg; Timberlake, Lynchburg; St. James and Chaplain of Ferrum College, Ferrum; Farmville, Farmville; Court Street, Lynchburg; and Trinity, Danville.
He is survived by his wife of fifty-five years Rachel Littleton Jones, and his son David Jones of Glen Allen, his daughter Carolyn Jones Nelson of Charlotte, NC; son-in-law Randy Nelson, grandson Allen Nelson, granddaughter Jodie Nelson, all of Charlotte, NC, nephew Ronnie Jones of Norfolk.
A memorial service was held in the New Fellowship Hall of Thrasher Memorial United Methodist Church on Saturday, May 11, 2002 at 11:00 A.M. The church is located at 707 East Washington Avenue, Vinton, VA 24179. Visitation was held Friday, May 10, 2002 7:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. at Lotz Funeral Home, 305 East Washington Avenue, Vinton, VA.
