Shawn Landsverk
DANVILLE, Va. - Shawn Stephanie Landsverk, 42 years, of 170 Marshall Terrace died on May 11, 2002 in Danville Regional Medical Center. She was in the hospital for three days and died suddenly.
She was born on February 25, 1960 in Madison, Wisconsin. She was the daughter of Franklin Landsverk and Janet Bodt Landsverk, who both survive.
Miss Landsverk had lived in Danville for the past three years. She was employed by the Danville Pittsylvania County Community Services where she was a Psychiatric Nurse Practitioner. Miss Landsverk was very active in Animal Rights.
She is survived, in addition to her father of Rio, Wisconsin, and mother of Charlottesville, Va., by one sister, Lisa Landsverk of Charlottesville, Va.
A memorial service will be conducted from the Wrenn-Yeatts Westover Chapel at 6:00 p.m. Wednesday, May 15, 2002.
The family will receive friends at the residence, 170 Marshall Terrace, Danville, Va.

Cledis Pruitt
DANVILLE, Va. - Cledis Mabry Pruitt, 84, formerly of 860 Franklin Turnpike, died Sunday morning, May 12, 2002 at Roman Eagle Memorial Nursing Home.
Born October 15, 1917 in Carroll County, Va., she was a daughter of Reuben Thornton Mabry and Eva Mae Holliday Mabry, who both predeceased her.
She was married February 23, 1935 to Edward Richard Pruitt, who predeceased her on August 23, 1976. She worked for Dan River Inc. until retirement. She was a member of First Pentacostal Holiness Church, where she was a former Sunday School teacher for the Adult Class, a member of the Womens Auxiliary, and a member of the Choir.
Survivors include one son, Edward Duane Pruitt and his wife Pat Pruitt of Danville, Va.; one sister, Gertrude Scearce of Danville, Va.; one grandson, Keith Duane Pruitt, and his wife Cheryl Pruitt, both of Danville; one great-granddaughter, Candace Pruitt of Danville, Va.; and a very special member of the family, Robert T. Franklin of Danville, Va.
She was predeceased, in addition to her parents and husband, by one daughter, Gloria A. Pruitt, five brothers and five sisters.
The graveside service will be held at 2:00 p.m. Tuesday, May 14, 2002 at Danville Memorial Gardens with the Rev. Joe Beck and the Rev. James Ward officiating.

Edward Shelton
CHATHAM, Va. - Edward Washington Shelton, 81, of 681 Irish Road, died Sunday, May 12, 2002 at the residence.
Born October 19, 1920 in Pittsylvania County, he was the son of Henry Clay Shelton and Eulalia Terry Shelton.
He was married to Clara Pyron Shelton, who survives. He was a member of Concord United Methodist Church.
Survivors, in addition to his wife of the residence, include one son, Vincent R. Shelton of Richmond; one sister, Ida S. Towler of Danville; four grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.
He was predeceased, in addition to his parents, by one son, Dwayne Shelton, and one brother, Hugh M. Shelton.
The graveside service will be held 11 a.m. Wednesday at Hillcrest Burial Park with the Rev. Darrell Campbell officiating.
The family will receive friends 7-8 p.m. Tuesday at Scott Funeral Home and at other times at the residence.
The family suggests that in lieu of flowers, memorial contributions be made to the Chatham Rescue Squad or the Concord United Methodist Church Building Fund.

DANVILLE, Va. - Elizabeth Nichols Bray, 77, formerly of 156 Forestdale Drive, Apt. 204, died Thursday, Jan. 9, 2003, at Roman Eagle Memorial Home.
Born Aug. 20, 1925, in Caswell County, N.C., she was the daughter of Ernest G. Nichols and Louise Ferguson Nichols Shelton, who predeceased her.
She was a charter member of North Main Baptist Church, where she was a choir member, Sunday School secretary, member of the Joy Sunday School Class and numerous church committees.
She had worked as bookkeeper for Animal Medical Center.
She was married to Clyde "Jim" Bray on July 4, 1940. He predeceased her on Jan. 22, 1995.
She is survived by one son, Ernest Bray of Danville; one sister, Peggy Jones of Danville; and one grandson, Randy Bray, of Burlington, N.C.
In addition to her parents and her husband, she was predeceased by one brother, Albert Nichols; one sister, Page N. Smith and a stepfather, Hugh Shelton.
The funeral will be 2 p.m. Saturday at North Main Baptist Church with Dr. Leroy Clack and the Rev. Louis Wall officiating. Interment will follow in Danville Memorial Gardens.
The family will be at the residence of her son, 1740 Hunting Hills Road, Mount Hermon community.

GREENVILLE, N.C. - Mrs. Betty McLaughlin Compton, 86, died Wednesday, Jan. 8, 2003 at her home.
The funeral service will be conducted Saturday at 10 a.m. at The Memorial Baptist Church. A graveside service will be held at 3:30 p.m. Saturday in Highland Burial Park, Danville, Va.
A native of Keeling, Va., Mrs. Compton was born June 15, 1916, daughter of the late Charles Jackson and Rose Hodnett McLaughlin.
She graduated from Averett College, Danville, Va. A resident of Greenville since 1953, she was a member of The Memorial Baptist Church and the Sappho Book Club. She enjoyed working in the offices of various tobacco warehouses in Greenville and Asheville, N.C.
In addition to her parents, Mrs. Compton was preceded in death by her husband of 60 years, Homer H. Compton, in April 2001, and also a sister, Helen M. Hudgins.
She is survived by a daughter, Linda Compton Clark and her husband, Bill, of Greenville; two grandsons, Henry F. Clark and his wife, Juli, and Scott C. Clark, all of Chapel Hill; and a brother, Daniel J. DANVILLE, Va. - Patsy Johns Donahue, 60, of 336 Rosemary Lane, died Thursday, Jan. 9, 2003, at her residence, after being in declining health for the past nine months.
Born May 28, 1942, in Danville, she was the daughter of Norman Johns and Annie Jordan Johns, who survives.
She lived all her life in Danville and attended George Washington High School.
She was of the Baptist faith.
She was married to Gene E. Donahue on Aug. 19, 1960.
In addition to her husband, of the residence, and her mother, of Danville, she is survived by two sons, Jerry Donahue of Charlotte, N.C. and Troy Donahue of Mt. Airy, N.C.; and three grandchildren.
The funeral will be held at 4 p.m. Saturday at Swicegood Chapel, with the Rev. Carl E. Burger officiating. Interment will follow in Mountain View Cemetery.

Evans Farrington
HALIFAX, Va. - Mildred Livingston Evans Farrington, 73, of 389 Mountain Road, died Monday, Jan. 6, 2003 at the Woodview Nursing Home.
Born July 6, 1929, in Danville, she was the daughter of John Davis Evans and Mary Peachie Easley Evans.
She was a member of St. Johns Episcopal Church, where she was the former church secretary.
She graduated from Longwood College and taught in Petersburg and Halifax County school systems.
She was married to James Woodworth Farrington, who predeceased her.
She is survived by one daughter, Canby F. Johnston of Ft. Lauderdale, Fla.; three sons, James W. Farrington of Chesapeake, Stephen Todd Farrington of Tullahoma, Tenn. and John Evans Farrington of Halifax; one sister, Betsy E. Holt of Orange; two brothers, John D. Evans Jr. of Richmond and Col. Robert Holt Evans of Halifax; and four grandchildren.
The funeral will be 2 p.m. Saturday at St. Johns Episcopal Church with the Rev. David Booker officiating. Interment will be in the church cemetery.

DANVILLE, Va. - Blondola Broadnax Jones, 69, of 2275 Robin Hood Drive, died Wednesday, Jan. 8, 2003 at Danville Regional Medical Center.
Born Feb. 7, 1933, in Danville, she was the daughter of John Wallace Broadnax and Mary Eliza Inge.
She worked for Danville Regional Medical Center as a nurse's assistant.
She was a member of St. James Baptist Church, president of the Senior Choir, superintendent of Sunday School, and a member of the Women's Adult Class Sunday School.
She was also on several committees for the church and Sunday School union, and a past leader of the Buds of Unity Tent #423.
She is survived by two sons, Herbert L. Jones Jr. of the residence and Derrick Broadnax, of Danville; two daughters, Evangelist Sandra D. Harris and Janet O. Broadnax, both of Danville; one sister, Alberta Hatchett of Danville, one brother, Christopher Broadnax of East Point, Ga.; eight grandchildren and two step-grandchildren.
The funeral will be 2 p.m. Saturday at the Loyal Baptist Church with Pastor Michael E. Harris officiating. Interment will follow in the Oak Hill Cemetery.

MARTINSVILLE, Va. - Annie L. Adkins Keatts, 77, of Oak Level and formerly of Danville, died Saturday, Jan. 4, 2003, at Blue Ridge Rehab Center in Martinsville.
Born May 20, 1925, in Pittslyvania County, she was the daughter of Fletcher Adkins and Rosie Myers Adkins.
She was a member of Salem United Methodist Church in Chatham and a graduate of Callands High School and Phillips Business College.
She was married to Grover L. Keatts.
In addition to her husband, of the residence, she is survived by one daughter, Mildred Keatts Buntin of Winston-Salem, N.C.; two sons, Henry L. Keatts of Oak Level, and Melvin C. Keatts of Danville; one sister, Martha Lee Dodd of Danville; and one brother, Earnest Adkins of Chatham; seven grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.
A graveside service was held 2 p.m. Tuesday at Floral Hills Memory Garden in Danville with the Rev. Gay Hill officiating.

Thomas G. Robertson Jr.
DANVILLE, Va. - Thomas G. "T.G." Robertson Jr., 90, of Franklin Turnpike, died Tuesday, Jan. 7, 2003, at Roman Eagle Memorial Home after a decline in health.
Born July 15, 1912, in Pittsylvania County, he was a son of Thomas G. Robertson Sr. and Annie Witcher Robertson.
He lived his life in the Dry Fork area. He was educated in the Pittsylvania County schools and Hargrave Military Academy. He was an overseas veteran of World War II, serving his country in the U.S. Army for a number of years. He was a Federal Crop Adjuster, farmer and raised beef cattle on his farm. He was a member of Mount Hermon Baptist Church.
He is survived by a brother, Luther Addison Robertson of Malibu, Calif.
He was predeceased by a sister, Exie Robertson Everett and a brother, William J. Robertson.
The graveside funeral will be held 11 a.m. Friday at Highland Burial Park with the Rev. Don Davidson officiating. Full military honors will be given by American Legion Post #325 Honor Guard.

Preston Elwood 'Mutt' Saunders
DANVILLE, Va. - Preston Elwood "Mutt" Saunders, 82, of 541 Parkland Drive, died Wednesday, Jan. 8, 2003, at his residence.
Born Oct. 12, 1920, in Rockingham County, he was the son of Alex Bruce Saunders and Sarah Davis Saunders.
He lived most of his life in the Danville area where he retired from Laramore Construction Company as a heavy equipment operator. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army serving as Master Sergeant with Company C 638 Tank Battalion in Germany during World War II. He was of the Baptist faith.
He married Mamie Doss Saunders on April 12, 1947.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by a daughter, Denise Saunders Smart; a son-in-law, Dennis Lee Smart; a granddaughter, Christina Nicole Smart, all of Danville and a sister, Winnie S. Cross of South Boston.
He was predeceased by two brothers, James Saunders and Robert Saunders and three sisters, Annie Saunders, Lottie S. Stanley and Ethel S. Walsh.
The graveside funeral will be held 2 p.m. Friday at Highland Burial Park with the Rev. Daryl Joyce officiating.

DANVILLE, Va. - Raymond Scruggs Saunders, 82, of 200 Gatewood Avenue, died Thursday, Jan. 9, 2003 at Danville Regional Medical Center.
Born June 26, 1920, in Danville, he was the son of James Edward Saunders and Alma Scruggs Saunders.
He lived all his life in Danville and was employed as a painter for John W. Daniels Construction Company prior to his retirement.
He was of the Baptist faith.
He was a veteran of the U.S. Army, serving in Germany and France.
He was married to Germaine McMillian Saunders.
In addition to his wife, of the residence, he is survived by one son, James Ray Saunders of Ringgold; one stepdaughter, Patsy Newsome of Lexington, KY; one sister, Alma Farthing of Danville; and two grandchildren.
The graveside service will be 2 p.m. Saturday at Highland Burial Park with the Rev. Bobby Haynes and the Rev. Lewis Emerson officiating. Military honors will be given by American Legion Dan River Post #1097 Honor Guard.
