YANCEYVILLE, N.C. - Hilda Wilson Hodges Brewer, 79, of 141 North Fifth St., died Saturday, Nov. 9, 2002, at Danville Regional Medical Center following a short period of declining health.
Born Jan. 12, 1923, in Caswell County, she was the daughter of Claude Henry and Linnie Poteat Hodges.
She was a graduate of Barlett-Yancey High School and was a retired nurse assistant at Baptist Retirement Home. She was also a member of Prospect United Methodist Church.
She was married to Robert Smith Brewer, who predeceased her.
She is survived by two sons, Bobby Wilson Brewer of Yanceyville and Claude Keith Brewer of Reidsville; and four grandchildren.
In addition to her husband, she was predeceased by four brothers, Thomas Hodges, Roy Hodges, Claude Hodges Jr. and Donald Hodges; and three sisters, Virginia Hodges, Russell Hodges and Janie Hodges Harrelson.
The funeral will be held 11 a.m. Monday at Prospect United Methodist Church with the Rev. Bryan Faggart officiating. Interment will be in the church cemetery.
The family will receive friends 6-8:30 p.m. Sunday at Harrelson Funeral Home and at other times at the residence of her son, Bobby Brewer, 1154 Hatchett Road.

Jesse Albert Clifton
EDEN, N.C. - Jesse Albert Clifton, 82, of 826 E. Meadow Road, died Saturday, Nov. 9, 2002, at Morehead Nursing Center.
He was born May 8, 1914, in Patrick County. He left Leaksville in his early years to go out west. He resided in Medford, Ore., for 38 years as a self-employed generator mechanic before retiring in Eden in 1974.
He is survived by his wife, Ruth Wickam Clifton of the residence; and six sisters, Dolly Garris of Staunton, Va., Lolene Collins, Cleatis Chilton, Frances Lewis, Dale Boyles, all of Eden and Fay Lawson of Danville, Va.
The graveside funeral will be held 2 p.m. Monday at Overlook Cemetery.
Visitation will follow immediately after the service.

Chester Sampson Compton
CHESTER, Va. - Chester Sampson Compton, 76, of 145 Lakeview Drive, died Nov. 9, 2002, at his residence.
Born Aug. 12, 1926, in Halifax County, he was the son of Clem Johnson Compton and Mammie Ligon Compton.
He was a member of Walmsly Baptist Church. He was a World War II veteran having served in the Marine Corps.
He was married to Beulah Carter Compton, who survives.
In addition to his wife of Chester, he is survived by a daughter, Vickie Wingfield of Chester; a son, Dewey Compton; a sister, Fannie Netherly, both of South Boston; and six grandchildren.
The graveside funeral will be held 11 a.m. Tuesday at Ligon Family Cemetery with the Rev. Donald A. Turner officiating.

Clementry L. Davis
CHATHAM, Va. - Clementry L. Davis, 102, of 11 Pine St., died Friday, Nov. 8, 2002, at Danville Regional Medical Center.
Born Dec. 31, 1900, in Pittsylvania County, she was the daughter of John Henry Stone and Lena Fitzgerald Stone.
She was a homemaker and member of Smithfield Primitive Baptist Church, where she was a former president of the usher board and clerk.
She was married to Teenie Davis, who predeceased her.
She is survived by two daughters, Odella Witcher of Chatham and Edna Davis of Baltimore, Md.; a foster daughter, Hilda Berger of Washington, D.C.; and one grandchild.
In addition to her husband, she was predeceased by a son, Merlia Davis and a brother, John H. Stone Jr.
The funeral will be held noon Tuesday at the Chapel of Miller Funeral Home with Elder Buford Craighead officiating. Interment will be in Hillcrest Burial Park.

Horace Paisley Dick
LEXINGTON, N.C. - Horace Paisley Dick, formerly of 234 Gray Street, died Thursday, Nov. 7, 2002, at the Brian Center.
Born Sept. 7, 1917, in Greensboro, he was the son of William Wilson Dick and Cora Ruth Bishop Dick.
He had been a member of Moseley Memorial United Methodist Church and the Men's Bible Class Sunday School since 1941. He was an employee of the Virginia ABC board before retiring in 1984.
He is survived by his wife, Jessie (Boots) Day Plott Dick of the Brian Center in Lexington; two sons, H. Wayne Dick of Lexington and Charles E. Dick of Roanoke, Va.; a brother, William Wilson Dick Jr. of Nashville, Tenn.; 10 grandchildren; and 18 great-grandchildren.
The funeral will be held 3 p.m. Sunday at Moseley Memorial United Methodist Church with the Rev. Gary Milstead officiating. Interment will follow in Highland Burial Park.

GRAHAM, N.C. - Sarah Shelton Durham, of Quality Care Assisted Living, died Saturday, Nov. 9, 2002, at Alamance Regional Medical Center.
Born in Pittsylvania County, Va., she was the daughter of Thomas A. Shelton and Ada L. Motley Shelton.
She was a telephone operator with Southern Bell. She attended Graham Wesleyan Church and was a member of Southern Bell Pioneers.
She was married to James Malloy Durham, who predeceased her.
She is survived by a son, James Rickey Durham of Burlington; a daughter, Karen Hope Durham of Burlington; three sisters, Mary Jones of Burlington, Eva Higgins and Rosa Lee Miller, both of Danville, Va.; three brothers, Clifton Shelton of Burlington, James Shelton and Calvin Shelton, both of Chatham, Va.; and five grandchildren.
In addition to her husband, she was predeceased by a sister, Gladys McDowell and two brothers, Grover Shelton and T.A. Shelton.

DANVILLE, Va. - Lottie Mae Falden, 83, of 107 Beavers Mill Road, died Friday, Nov. 8, 2002 at her residence.
Born May 15, 1919, in Pittsylvania County, she was the daughter of Benjamin Falden and Maggie White Falden.
She was a homemaker and a member of North New Hope Baptist Church.
She is survived by a brother, Steven Falden of Danville and a sister, Lois Graves of the residence.
The funeral will be held 1 p.m. Tuesday at Cunningham and Hughes Memorial Chapel with the Rev. Willard Smith officiating. Interment will follow in Crooktown Cemetery.

Norma Cobbler Hutcherson
DRY FORK, Va. - Norma Cobbler Hutcherson, of 3544 Dry Fork Road, died Thursday, Nov. 7, 2002, at Danville Regional Medical Center after a decline in health.
Born Feb. 22, 1915, in Pittsylvania County, she was the daughter of William Clay Cobbler and Cordie Hutcherson Cobbler.
She was a member of Emmanuel Pentecostal Holiness Church and was a graduate of Brevard College. During World War II, she did volunteer work for the Red Cross.
She was married to Louis A. Hutcherson, who predeceased her Nov. 16, 1993.
She is survived by a daughter, Brenda H. Jeffress of Dry Fork; four sons, Nathan Hutcherson of Dry Fork, Louis Hutcherson Jr. of Fredericksburg, David Hutcherson of Hurt and James Hutcherson of Danville; one sister, Clara Farr of Wagner, S.C.; nine grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.
In addition to her husband, she was predeceased by two sisters, Mary Lee Nichols and Ann Cowan.
The funeral will be held 2 p.m. Sunday at Emmanuel Pentecostal Holiness Church with the Rev. Kenneth Terry officiating. Interment will follow in the church cemetery.

Albert Irvin
JAVA, Va. - Albert Irvin, 50, of 109 Stone Road, died Friday, Nov. 8, 2002, at his residence.
Born June 28, 1952, in Pittsylvania County, he was the son of Raymond and Beulah Hubbard Irvin.
He was employed by Gregory Lumber Company and was of the Baptist faith.
He is survived by seven brothers, Edward James Irvin, Dennis L. Irvin, both of Danville, Raymond Irvin Jr., Alvin T. Irvin, Aaron D. Irvin, Ervin D. Irvin, all of Java and Hubert Irvin of Delaware; and four sisters, Maggie N. Irvin, Deloise D. Irvin, both of Chatham, Connie M. Anderson of Java and Marie D. Irvin of Danville.

Gladys 'Bobbie' Campbell Mayberry
PELHAM, N.C. - Gladys "Bobbie" Campbell Mayberry, 73, of 2560 Law Road, died Saturday, Nov. 9, 2002 at her residence.
Born Nov. 20, 1928, in Madison Heights, Va., she was the daughter of William Edward Campbell and Bessie Mae Pence Campbell, both deceased.
Mrs. Mayberry had lived most of her life in Madison Heights, Va., and Danville, Va., and had lived in Pelham since 1973. She was a member of Stokesland Baptist Church and was a faithful and dedicated member of Martha Bible Class. She was a full-time homemaker.
On March 30, 1946, she married Charles Edward "Ed" Mayberry, who predeceased her Dec. 14, 2000.
She is survived by two daughters, Vicky Gammon Burnett and her husband, Phillip Burnett of Danville, Va. and Debra Mayberry Shackelford and her husband, Tim Shackelford of Pelham; two sons, Jerry Mayberry Sr. and his wife, Mary Mayberry and Jeff Mayberry and his wife, D'atte, all of Danville, Va.; two sisters, Dorothy C. Profitt of Madison Heights, Va. and Louise C. Womack of Lynchburg, Va.; seven grandsons, Timothy Scott Shackelford, Jerry Mayberry Sr. and wife, Chrystal, Mike Mayberry, Joshua Gammon, Jason Gammon, Jonathan Mayberry, all of Danville, Va. and Brian Shackelford of Raleigh; two granddaughters, Brittany Burnett and Brandi Burnett; two great-granddaughters, Sydney Rae Shackelford and Savannah Mayberry, both of Danville, Va.; and a great-grandson, Phillip "Trey" Burnett.
In addition to her parents and husband, she was predeceased by a son, Lonnie Mayberry and several brothers and sisters.

J.B. Rickmond
DANVILLE, Va. - Joseph (J.B.) Bailey Rickmond Jr., 76, of 164 Arnett Boulevard, died Saturday, Nov. 9, 2002, at Danville Regional Medical Center after six months of declining health and five days in the hospital.
Born June 8, 1926, in Danville, he was the son of Joseph Bailey Rickmond Sr. and Lena Elliott Rickmond.
He had lived all of his life in Danville. He retired from Norfolk, Franklin and Danville Railroad where he worked as General Agent Yard Master with 34 years of service. After his retirement, he worked with the former Swanson Motor Company as Service Manager for several years prior to being employed by Jacques Jewelers. He was a member of North Main Baptist Church and was an active member of the Danville Sertoma Luncheon Club for 30 years. He was also a member of the Veteran's of Foreign Wars (V.F.W.) Post 647, having served in the army during World War II.
He is survived by a daughter, Gina Rickmond Oakes of Danville; a son, Joseph (Joe) Bailey Rickmond III of Alton; two sisters, Catherine Rickmond of Danville and Lillian R. Adcock of Roxboro, N.C.; and one grandchild.
The funeral will be held 2 p.m. Monday at Wrenn-Yeatts North Main Chapel with the Rev. Dr. Leroy Clack officiating. Interment will be in Highland Burial Park with military honors by American Legion Post 325.

James A. 'Jim' Smith
DANVILLE, Va. - James A. "Jim" Smith, 78, of 244 Rocklawn Avenue, died Friday, Nov. 8, 2002, at his residence.
Born June 7, 1924, in Galax, he was the son of Garland Dan Smith and Rachael Lucindy Whittington Smith, both deceased.
Mr. Smith had lived in Danville for the past 60 years and worked in refinishing furniture and woodworking. He also was an agent for Life and Casualty Insurance Co. and later for American General Insurance Co. He was a member of Keen Street Baptist Church where he was the president of his Sunday School Class and was a Deacon for many years. He was a veteran of the U.S. Navy serving in the South Pacific during World War II.
He had been in declining health for the past seven years.
On Aug. 28, 1948, he married Catherine Evans Smith, who predeceased him.
He is survived by a daughter, Patricia Smith Martin; a son-in-law, Larry D. Martin Jr., both of Covington; and a number of nieces and nephews.
The funeral will be held 2 p.m. Sunday, Nov. 10, 2002, at the Swicegood Chapel with the Rev. Thomas J. Brown officiating. Interment will be in Highland Burial Park.
