Noland Bob Hazelwood
CLOVER, Va. - Noland Bob Hazelwood, 79, of 2172 Mill Road, died Thursday, Dec. 26, 2002, at Woodview.
Born Dec. 29, 1922, in Halifax County, he was the son of John J. Hazelwood and Willie B. Lacks Hazelwood.He was a retired employee of Rochester Button and attended Living Waters Church of God.
He was married to Jeanette Hazelwood, who predeceased him. He is survived by three daughters, Joyce H. Nichols of Clover, Peggy Vasser of Scottsburg and Patsy Vasser of Clover; two sisters, Lillian Snead and Lennie Snead, both of Clover; nine grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
The funeral will be held 2 p.m. Sunday at Living Waters Church of God with the Rev. Ricky Bibee officiating. Interment will be in the Clover Cemetery, Mt. Laurel Road.
The family will receive friends 7-8:30 p.m. Saturday at Brooks Funeral Home and at other times at the home of Patsy and Gerald Vasser, Mill Road.

Evelyn H. Meadows
DANVILLE, Va. - Evelyn H. Meadows, of 455 Brentwood Drive, died Wednesday, Dec. 25, 2002, at Danville Regional Medical Center.
She was born in Salisbury, N.C. and was a daughter of George Harrison and Cora Leonard Harrison.
She retired from American National Bank after 41 years of service. At the time of her retirement, she was an assistant Vice President and manager of the West Main branch.
She was a member of Keen Street Baptist Church, had served as treasurer for a number of years and was on the finance committee, teller committee and audit committee.
She was first married to Lenwood B. Wiles, who predeceased her in 1977. She later married John W. "Speedy" Meadows, who predeceased her in 1997.
She is survived by a daughter, Rhonda Wiles Seamster of Danville; a brother, Harold Harrison of Winston-Salem, N.C.; a sister, Peggy H. Lowe of Danville; two stepsons, Allen Meadows and Michael Meadows, both of Danville; three grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
In addition to her husbands, she was predeceased by a brother, Vann Harrison.
The funeral will be held 2 p.m. Saturday at Keen Street Baptist Church with the Rev. Tom Brown officiating. Interment will be in Highland Burial Park.
The family received friends 7-8:30 p.m. Friday at Wrenn-Yeatts North Main Chapel and at other times will be at the residence.

Sydney Moore Murray Jr.
DANVILLE, Va. - Sydney Moore Murray Jr., 84, of 222 Shamrock Drive, died Dec. 24, 2002, in Danville Regional Medical Center.
Born July 22, 1918, in Manhattan, N.Y., he was the son of Sydney Moore Murray Sr. and Petra Lampe Murray.
He graduated from Washington University. He was a veteran of World War II, having served in the Navy on a destroyer, the USS Breckinridge, with the rank of Chief Gunners Mate.
He retired as an engineer with McDonald Douglas Aircraft, and came to Danville in 1978 as the managing insurance agent for the Leggett Stores.
He was a member of Mount Vernon United Methodist Church and was also a member of the Danville Duplicate Bridge Club and the American Legion Post #1097.
He was married to Rebecca Andrews Murray.
In addition to his wife, of the residence, he is survived by one stepdaughter, Bonnie E. Andrews of Augusta Springs; one step grandchild and one great-grandchild. A private memorial service will be held at a later date.
The family will be at the residence.

Jewell Buckner Bass
DANVILLE, Va. - Jewell Buckner Bass, 81, of 2527 Airview Drive, died November 7, 2002 at Danville Regional Medical Center after two days in the hospital and eight months in declining health.
Born April 25, 1921, in Danville, she was the daughter of the late James Christopher Buckner and the late Blanche Clayton Buckner.
Mrs. Bass had lived all of her life in Pittsylvania County and Danville. She had worked for Dan River, Inc. for several years prior to becoming a full time homemaker. She was a member of Williamson Memorial Presbyterian Church on Mountain Hill Road where she was a past Sunday School Teacher and a past officer of the Williamson Memorial Women of the Church Group and she was a former Eastern Star member.
She married Earley Ray Bass on March 6, 1942.
In addition to her husband of the residence, she is survived by a son and daughter-in-law, Michael R. and Ruby C. Bass of Ridgeway; a brother, Harold Buckner of Danville; a granddaughter, Andrea B. Williams of Stuart; and a grandson, David Bass of Ridgeway.
In addition to her parents, she was predeceased by a son, Carroll H. Base; a brother, Herbert Buckner; and a half sister, Mozelle Myers.
The funeral will be held 2:00 p.m. Sunday, November 10th from the Wrenn-Yeatts Westover Chapel by the Reverend Phillip Pogue. Interment will be in Highland Burial Park.

Josh Coles
PELHAM, N.C. - Josh Coles, 86, of 89 Guess Road, died Monday, Nov. 4, 2002, at the Brian Center in Yanceyville.
Born June 16, 1916, in Caswell County, he was the son of Enoch and Lucy Baise Coles.
He was retired from Dan River, Inc. and a Deacon at Smith Chapel Baptist Church for many years.
He was married to Clara Mitchell Coles, who survives.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by two daughters, Etrulia C. Price and Helen C. Smith, both of Pelham; two sons, Ivy Coles of Yanceyville and William Coles of Danville, Va.; one sister, Ida C. Graves of Pelham; 13 grandchildren; 24 great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren.
The funeral will be held 2 p.m. Saturday at Smith Chapel Baptist Church with the Rev. Nathan Scovens officiating. Interment will follow in the church cemetery.

Christine Catherine Wood Elliott
LAKE CITY, Tenn. - Christine Catherine Wood Elliott, age 88, died Sunday, October 13, 2002, at Oak Ridge Methodist Medical Center, Oak Ridge, Tenn.
A native of Danville, Va., she was a member of Mt. Vernon United Methodist Church. She was born October 31, 1913 and resided in Danville until 1959. During her years in Danville, she was a founding member of the Blue Stocking Book Club and member of the Daughters of the American Revolution. After working at jobs with banks and law offices and the position as church secretary at Mt. Vernon United Methodist Church, she began her 25 year career with the Social Security Administration as a receptionist in the Danville office in 1950. Here she was promoted to Claims Representative, then Field Representative. In 1959, her career moved forward in a chain of transfers and promotions as follows: 1. Field Representative, Fayetteville, N.C., 1959-1961, 2. Supervisor, Baltimore, Md., 1961-1963, 3. Assistant Manager, Bluefield, W.Va., 1963-1964, 4. Assistant Manager, Bristol, Va., 1964-1968, 5. Manager, Covington, Va., 1968-1975.
After retiring in 1975, she remained in Covington for a number of years, staying busy with club and civic work, and enjoying her hobbies of antiquing, painting, gardening and travel. Then she returned to her hometown Danville during which she continued her retirement as a resident at Stratford House.
In September 2000, she moved to Lake City Health Care Center, Lake City, Tenn., where she lived her final two years, closer to her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Benjamin Harrison Wood and Lottie Louise Gregory, her sister and brother-in-law, Louise and Bernard Mann, her brother, Ben Wood, and brother-in-law, Vardell Williams.
She is loved and remembered by surviving family members: her sister, Charlotte Williams, her sister-in-law, Alma Wood, her brothers and sisters-in-law, Harold and Margaret Wood and Raymond and Goldie Wood, all of Danville, Va.; her daughters and sons-in-law, Susan and Ray Johnson of Andersonville, Tenn. and April and Jerry Ulrey of Black Mountain, N.C.; her grandchildren, Kaori and David Johnson of West Lafayette, Ind., Shannon and Doug Johnson of Knoxville, Tenn., Becky Johnson and Patrick Ash of Knoxville, Tenn., Evie and Thomas Reddick of Lawrence, Kan., Emily and Robert Wirth of Chapel Hill, N.C., Devin Reed and Josh Sturdevant of Asheville, N.C., Rosemary Ulrey of Black Mountain, N.C., Bethany and Howard Berry of Columbia, S.C.; her great-grandchildren, Sara and Rena Johnson of West Lafayette, Ind., Rachel, Daniel and Michael Johnson of Knoxville, Tenn., Samuel and Sophia Ash of Pittsburgh, Pa. and Marie Berry of Columbia, S.C.
A memorial service is scheduled for Saturday, November 9, 2002, at 2:00 p.m. at Mt. Vernon United Methodist Church, 107 West Main Street, Danville, VA 24541, with the Reverend Jonathan Bennett officiating.
The receiving of friends will follow immediately after the service in the church parlor.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Mt. Vernon United Methodist Church.
Arcie Puckett Frazier
DANVILLE, Va. - Arcie Puckett Frazier, 80, died Wednesday, Nov. 6, 2002, in Danville.
Born in Dickenson County, she was a daughter of George W. and Catherine Stanley Puckett.
She is survived by two daughters, Betty Sheets and Janet Adkins, both of Danville; three sons, George Caroll Frazier, Richard Frazier and Douglas Frazier, all of Danville; eight grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.
She was predeceased by her husband, George Frazier.
The funeral will be held 2 p.m. Saturday at Tarpon Freewill Baptist Church with the Rev. Jerry Robinson and the Rev. Jerry Vitatoe officiating. Interment will follow in Puckett Cemetery.

Lynda West Hutcherson
GRETNA, Va. - Lynda West Hutcherson, 52, of 268 Hutcherson Road, Gretna, died Wednesday, November 6, 2002. She was the wife of David Roy Hutcherson.
Born October 30, 1950, in Campbell County, she was a daughter of Cloys Daniel West and Betty Ann Tweedy West of Gretna. She was a member of Straightstone Baptist Church, a past member of the Pittsylvania County School Board, a past committee member of the Pittsylvania Farm Service, and a farmer.
In addition to her parents and husband, she is survived by one son, David Wesley Hutcherson and his wife, Shirley, of Gretna; one sister, Patty Burgoyne of Colorado; two grandchildren, Haley and Hannah Hutcherson; her mother and father-in-law, Willard and Kathryn Hutcherson of Lynchburg.
She was preceded in death by a brother-in-law, Michael Hutcherson.
A funeral service will be conducted at 11:00 A.M. Saturday, November 9, 2002, in Straightstone Baptist Church by the Rev. Jim Manuel. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.

Wayne Myers
DANVILLE, Va. - Wayne Eugene Myers, 72, of 1233 Halifax Road, died Tuesday, Nov. 5, 2002, at Riverside Health Care Center where he had resided for six months. He had been in declining health for one year.
Born May 2, 1930, in Speedwell, Tenn., he was the son of Arnold G. Myers and Mary Taylor Myers.
He moved to Danville in 1991 from Spotsylvania. He was a retired carpenter superintendent and was of the Baptist faith. He served in the U.S. Marines during the Korean conflict.
He was married to Faith Moore Myers, who survives.
In addition to his wife of the residence, he is survived by two sons, Wayne Eugene Myers Jr. of Alexandria and Thomas S. Moore of Danville; three daughters, Mary Sue Myers, Donna Jo Myers, both of Alexandria and Dawn Marie Moore of Dry Fork; three brothers, Kenneth Cole Myers, Ed Myers and Kern Myers, all of Tennessee; two sisters, Bennie M. Hurst and Johnnie Ruth Elmore, both of Tennessee; and a number of grandchildren.
He was predeceased by two brothers, Arnold G. Myers and Ted Myers.
The funeral will be held 2 p.m. Friday at Wrenn-Yeatts North Main Chapel with the Rev. Ralph Laws officiating. Interment will be in Highland Burial Park with military honors by Dan River American Legion Post 1097.

Nannie Wilson Pruitt
DANVILLE, Va. - Nannie Wilson Pruitt, 95, departed this life and went to be with her Lord on November 6, 2002 after being in declining health for several years. She had resided in the Glenwood community on Halifax Road for 35 years prior to becoming a resident of Roman Eagle Memorial Home on November 7, 1997 where she received such wonderful care.
Mrs. Pruitt was born in Pittsylvania County on March 5, 1907, a daughter of the late Sally Wilson. She was married to the late Claude Raymond Pruitt who predeceased her on October 22, 1984. She was a charter member of Fellowship Baptist Church on Halifax Road.
Mrs. Pruitt is survived by a son, Claude Dale Pruitt, her daughter-in-law, Becky S. Pruitt, one grandson, Shannon Dale Pruitt, all of Danville, a host of nieces and nephews, including one special niece, Ruby Bartee who assisted with her care for the past 7 years.
She was predeceased by two brothers, Bruce Wilson and Willie Wilson and by one sister, Lola Wilson.
A graveside service will be held on Saturday at 11:00 a.m. in Floral Hills Memory Gardens with the Reverend Curtis Smith officiating.
The family will receive friends on Friday from 7:00 to 8:30 p.m. at Wrenn-Yeatts North Main Chapel and at other times at the residence on her son, 443 Brooke Drive, Danville, Virginia.

Norma Mullins Reagan
HALIFAX, Va. - Norma Mullins Reagan, 72, of 1214 Golf Course Road, died Wednesday, Nov. 6, 2002, at Halifax Regional Hospital.
Born May 3, 1930, in Dickenson County, she was the daughter of Palastine Mullins and Rosa Branham Mullins.
She was employed as a registrar for the Halifax Regional Hospital Emergency Department. She was a member of the hospital's Auxilary and a former member of IMC where she served in various offices. She was a member of Revelation Baptist Church.
She is survived by her husband, Onard Albright Reagan of Halifax; a son, Edward Thomas "Tommy" Reagan of Halifax; a sister, Nora Mullins Fletcher of Grundy; a brother, Willie Palmer Mullins of Haysi; one grandson; four step grandchildren; and two step great-grandchildren.
She was predeceased by a sister, Nannie Mullins Sluss.
The funeral will be held 2 p.m. Saturday at Brooks Funeral Home Chapel with the Revs. Rudolph Jacobs and Jack Stewart officiating. Interment will be in Shady Grove U.M.C. Cemetery in Virgilina.

Cecil Martin Shelhorse
SUTHERLIN, Va. - Cecil Martin Shelhorse, 63, of 3957 Kerns Church Road, died Thursday, Nov. 7, 2002, at his residence. He had been in declining health for the past four years.
Born March 3, 1939, in Pittsylvania County, he was the son of George Shelhorse, who survives and Margaret Shelhorse, who predeceased him.
He lived most of his life in the Danville area where he was a self-employed plumber. He was of the Baptist faith.
He was married to Jean Bland Shelhorse, who survives.
In addition to his father of Thomasville, N.C. and his wife, he is survived by two sons, Loyd Shelhorse and Tony Shelhorse, both of Orlando, Fla.; three daughters, Crystal Shelhorse of Orlando, Fla., Susie Curlett of Ringgold and Marcy Curlett of Atlanta, Ga.; a brother, Keith Shelhorse of Danville; a sister, Betty Crow of Fort Worth, Texas; 10 grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.
The graveside funeral will be held 2 p.m. Saturday at Highland Burial Park with the Rev. Jack Robertson officiating.
