SCOTTSBURG, Va. - Michael Dean Wagstaff, 29, of 1048 Temple Hill Road, died Friday, Jan. 17, 2003.
Born June 12, 1973, in Halifax County, he was the son of Dean Wagstaff and Deborah Wilborn Adcock, who survive.
He was a member of the Bethel Baptist Church.
He was married to Dana Spangler Wagstaff.
In addition to his wife, of South Boston, his father, of Scottsburg, and his mother, of Halifax, he is survived by a son, Aaron Michael Wagstaff of South Boston; two sisters, Donna Wagstaff Gordon of Halifax and Desirae Nicole Wagstaff of Scottsburg; his grandparents, Earl and Edith Wagstaff of Scottsburg and Shirley Wilborn of South Boston; and a great-great grandmother, Sterling Wilborn of South Boston.
The funeral will be 2 p.m. Monday at Powell Funeral Home with the Rev. Tony Brooks officiating. Interment will be in the Bethel Church Cemetery.

Steven Wayne Walker Jr.
DANVILLE, Va. - Steven Wayne Walker Jr., 32, of 332 Seminole Trail, died Friday, Jan. 17, 2003, at Danville Regional Medical Center.
Born April 10, 1970, in Waynesboro, Pa., he was a son of Steven Wayne Walker Sr. and Dale Evans Walker, who both survive.
He was employed at Furniture Depot.
He was married to Jamie Richards Walker.
In addition to his parents of Danville and his wife of the residence, he is survived by his paternal grandparents, Calvin and Ramona Tuck of Gretna; a great-grandmother, Mozelle Shorter of Myrtle Beach, S.C. and a brother, Shawn Wesley Walker of College Park, Md.
He was predeceased by his maternal grandparents, Willie and Sibyl Evans and his paternal grandfather, Fanico Walker.
The funeral will be held 11 a.m. Monday at Townes Memorial Chapel with the Rev. Don Davidson officiating. Interment will be in Schoolfield Cemetery.
The family will receive friends 7-8:30 p.m. Sunday at Townes Funeral Home and at other times at the residence and also at his parent's residence, 1248 Ridgecrest Drive.

CHATHAM, Va. - Mary Frances Bowen, 86, of 644 Coles Road, died Saturday, June 22, 2002, at Gretna Health Care Center.
Born April 9, 1916, in Pittsylvania County, she was the daughter of William Daniel Frances and Lois Dawson Frances.
She was married to Gorden H. Bowen, who survives. She was a member of Sheva Church of Christ.
In addition to her husband of Gretna, survivors include two daughters, Christine B. Crider of Chatham and Verna B. Tuck of Gretna; three sons, Phillip Stanley Bowen of Chatham, Milton Daniel Bowen of Collinsville and Henry L. Bowen of Chatham; four sisters, Thelma F. Edwards of Live Oak, Fla., Ruth F. Walker and Eva F. LaForm, both of Danville, and Beulah F. Whitlow of South Boston; four brothers, Lewis H. Frances of Sutherlin, Albert B. Frances of Burlington, N.C., and Henry H. Frances and Edward Frances, both of Gretna; 14 grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren; five step grandchildren; and 11 step great-grandchildren.
She was predeceased by two brothers, Lawrence N. Frances and Malcolm Frances.
The funeral will be held 11 a.m. Wednesday at Sheva Church of Christ with Ministers J. Michael Stephenson, Larry L. Owen, and Carson A. Dalton officiating. Interment will follow at Hillcrest Burial Park in Chatham.
The family will receive friends 7-8 p.m. Tuesday at Sheva Church of Christ and other times will be at the residence of Henry Bowen, 253 Sheva Road.

Pearl Boyette
DANVILLE, Va. - Pearl Berry Simpson Boyette, of 1664 Maple Drive, died Saturday, June 22, 2002, at the residence.
Born Sept. 13, 1927, in Harlingen, Texas, she was the daughter of James Mace Berry and Maude Labar Berry.
She was first married to Charles A. Simpson, who predeceased her, and later married Amos M. Boyette, who also predeceased her. She was a 1944 graduate of the Corpus Christie High School in Corpus Christie, Texas. She was a member of the Keen Street Baptist Church and Degree of Pocahontas. She was the Great Pocahontas of Virginia from 1987-1988. She was associated with the Piedmont Hardware Company for 22 years. She later worked at Associated Services Corporation from 1970-1990.
Survivors include one son, James A. Simpson of Danville; one daughter, Loretta S. Nichols of Danville; one sister, Evelyn B. King of Gonzalez, Texas; two grandsons and one granddaughter.
She was predeceased by four sisters and three brothers.
The funeral will be held 11 a.m. Tuesday at Townes Funeral Home Memorial Chapel with the Rev. Tom Brown and the Rev. Tom Wright officiating.

Charles Henderson
HALIFAX, Va. - Charles Pleasant Henderson, 76, of 389 Lakeside Drive, died Sunday, June 23, 2002, at Somerset.
Born Sept. 1, 1925, in Drewey's Bluff, he was the son of Hubert Howell Henderson and Annie Dunn Henderson.
He was married to Marion Dance Henderson, who survives. He was a World War II Army veteran and was of the Presbyterian faith.
In addition to his wife of Halifax, survivors include one daughter, Carolyn Henderson of Halifax; two sisters, Sarah Lebsack of Oak Level and Margaret Dorman of Charlottesville; one brother, Hubert H. Henderson of Richmond; one grandchild; and one great-grandchild.
He was predeceased by one son, Chuck Henderson; and two sisters, Ruth Hodnett and Nancy Gee.
The graveside service will be held 11 a.m. Tuesday at Halifax Memorial Gardens, with the Rev. Lewis Wall officiating.

Miss Lillie Orander
PROVIDENCE, N.C. - Lillie Mae "Miss Lillie" Orander, 91, of 4425 Shady Grove Road, died Sunday, June 23, 2002, at Danville Regional Medical Center following several months of declining health and one day in the hospital.
Born Jan. 17, 1911, in Rockingham County, she was the daughter of Jesse William Mabe and Alpha Jane Syndor Mabe.
She was first married Feb. 20, 1926, to Harry Thomas Robertson, who died Dec. 8, 1961. She was later predeceased by three additional husbands, Leslie Arnold, Edgar Newnam and Coy Orander. She had lived most of her life in the Providence community of Caswell County, where she was a homemaker. She was a member of the Dan River Primitive Baptist Church and was a member of the Pelham Senior Citizens Group and the Golden Girls.
Survivors include three sons, Billy H. Robertson and Donald G. Robertson, both of Danville, Va., and Frank D. Robertson of Providence; three daughters, Myrtle R. Saunders of Danville, Va., Robette R. Evans of Providence and Betty Lou R. Toler of Gastonia; two stepsons, Gaither Newnam of Martinsville, Va., and George Newnam of Brandon, Fla.; three stepdaughters, B.G. Pryor of Pelham, Susie White of Casville and Margaret Shannon of Walkertown; 28 grandchildren; and 36 great-grandchildren.
She was predeceased by one daughter, Mary Frances Robertson; and two sons, Harry T. Robertson Jr. and Jesse W. Robertson.
The funeral will be held 2 p.m. Tuesday at Wrenn-Yeatts Westover Chapel, with Elder Kenneth Key and the Rev. Jimmy Reaves officiating. Interment will follow at Bethel United Methodist Church Cemetery in Pelham.

Charles Mitchell
PELHAM, N.C. - Charles Dillard Mitchell, 59, of 7879 Old U.S. 29, died Sunday morning, June 23, 2002, at the residence.
Born Aug. 13, 1942, in Caswell County, he was the son of Daniel A. Mitchell and Pauline Evans Mitchell.
He was married to Hazel Boyd Mitchell, who survives. He spent most of his life in the Pelham community and was a mechanic for the Westbrook Elevator Company and later was co-owner of Piedmont Elevator Co. He attended the First Church of the Brethren on Glen Oak Drive and was a member of the Caswell Brotherhood Masonic Lodge.
In addition to his wife of the residence, survivors include one daughter, Renee Heronymus of Danville, Va.; one son, Michael H. Mitchell of Pelham; and one sister, Jane Watlington of Providence.
He was predeceased by one brother, Alvis D. Mitchell.
The graveside service will be held 11 a.m. Tuesday at Dan River Primitive Baptist Church Cemetery, with the Rev. Richard Berkley officiating.

WHITSETT, N.C. - Mary Williamson Smith, of 1205 Hwy. 61, died Friday, June 21, 2002, at Moses Cone Hospital.
Survivors include two sons, the Rev. Howard L. Graves of Danville, Va., and John W. Graves of Sedalia; six daughters, Nannie Sue Brown of Brown Summit, Bessie Mae Womack, Veronica Elaine Lynn of Greensboro, Lucy Foust of Burlington, Pearlean Glover of New Haven, Conn., and Sandra Singleton of Sedalia; four stepdaughters, Elizabeth Mead, Lilly Mae Bynum of Sedalia, Mildred Stewart of Whitsett, and Edna Boyd of High Point; three stepsons, Walter Martin of Sedalia, Charles Smith of Gibsonville and Clyde Smith of Greensboro; and a number of grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
The funeral will be held 2 p.m. Tuesday at McLeansville First Baptist Church. Interment will follow at the church cemetery.

Dorothy A. ‘Dottie' Snead
DANVILLE, Va. - Dorothy A. (Dottie) Snead of 231 South Ridge Street, Heritage Towers died Sunday, June 23, 2002 at her residence.
She was born in Danville, Va., December 18, 1925, a daughter of the late William Archer Snead and Myrtle Nuckols Snead.
Miss Snead was a member of West Main Baptist Church, The Fidelis Sunday School Class, E.C.H.O. and The Tenant Association at Heritage Towers. She had attended Danville Public Schools and Averett College. Miss Snead had worked for The Grogan Oil Company and retired as bookkeeper. She also had worked at Ray's Flower Shop and was predeceased by four brothers and four sisters.
Surviving are two sisters: Lilly S. Goodson and Mary S. Hardy both of Danville. Two nieces: Cheryl T. Coleman of Napierville, Ill. and Meryl T. Worley of Danville. Two nephews: James Goodson, III and Charles W. Snead, Jr. both of Danville. Also several great nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held Tuesday, June 25, 2002 at 2 P.M. from the graveside at Mountain View Cemetery by The Reverend Dr. Howard W. Lee.

Eva Bluher
DANVILLE, Va. - Eva Gammon Bluher, 77, formerly of 1152 Franklin Turnpike, died Monday, Oct. 28, 2002, at Piney Forest Health Care Center.
Born July 18, 1925, in Pittsylvania County, she was the daughter of the late Noah W. Gammon and Ethel Billings Gammon.
She lived most of her life in Danville and was of the Nazarine faith. She was employed with Dan River Mills for 44 years. She had been a patient at Piney Forest Health Care since Feb. 14, 2002.
She is survived by a daughter, Linda B. Eanes of Danville; brother Oliver S. Gammon of Danville; and two sisters, Viola G. Hopkins and Annie G. Clark, both of Danville.
She was predeceased by her husband, Elmer D. Bluher; three half brothers and three half sisters.
The funeral will be held at 2 p.m. Wednesday in the Swicegood Chapel at Swicegood Funeral Home with the Rev. Barry Crumpton and the Rev. Roger Ewing officiating. Burial will be in Highland Burial Park.

CLOVER, Va. - Rawleigh Leonard Conner Jr., 59, of 1040 Rawleigh Lane, died Oct. 28, 2002, at Berry Hill Nursing Home.
Born Sept. 21, 1943, in Halifax, he was the son of Rawleigh Leonard Conner Sr. and Rosa Mae Compton.
He was a member of Mt. Laurel United Methodist Church.
He is survived by a son, Darryl Conner of Scottsburg; three brothers, Charlie Conner of Disputanta; Gilbert Conner and David Conner, both of Mount Laurel; a stepmother, Doris Conner of Nathalie; a stepbrother, Ricky Peck of Nathalie; and two grandchildren.
The graveside funeral will be held 2 p.m. Wednesday at Mt. Laurel United Methodist Church Cemetery with the Rev. Don Pizzeck officiating.

SEMORA, N.C. - Thomas Eugene Hamlett, 61, died Friday, Oct. 25, 2002.
Born Jan. 30, 1941, he was a native of Caswell County.
He attended the Caswell County public schools.
He is survived by his wife, Shirley Hamlett of the residence; his mother, Ada Pyles of Milton; four sons, Daryl Hamlett of Roxboro, Thomas Stewart of Semora, Malcolm Stewart of Milton and Melvin Stewart of Yanceyville; two sisters, Shirley McCain of New York, N.Y. and Rosa Carrington of Milton; three brothers, Robert Hamlett of Milton, James Cunningham of Someville, N.J. and Willie Cunningham of Washington, D.C.; an adopted daughter, Judith White of Abington, Md.; 12 grandchildren; and four great-granddaughters.
The funeral will be held 1 p.m. Wednesday at Mt. Olive Baptist Church with the Rev. P.D. Medley officiating. Interment will be in the church cemetery.

Don Clifford Jones
DRY FORK, Va. - Don Clifford Jones, 69, of 3380 Sandy Creek Road, died Saturday, Oct. 26, 2002, at Duke Medical Center in Durham, N.C. after five months of declining health and more than three weeks in the hospital.
Born July 10, 1933, in Poplar Bluff, Mo., he was the son of Willard Thomas Jones and Gertrude Raley Jones.
He moved to the Dry Fork Community of Pittsylvania County in 1978. He retired from the U.S. Navy with the rank Chief Petty Officer after 21 years of service. He was a member of Whitmell Christian Church where he had served as Deacon.
He was first married to Frances Turner Jones, who predeceased him Jan. 4, 1999. He then married Vickie Entsminger Jones on July 23, 2000.
In addition to his wife of the residence, he is survived by two sons, Dennis Mathis of Orlando, Fla. and Don Steven Jones of Dry Fork; three daughters, Cindy Jones of Keeling, Lisa Jones of Norfolk and Holly Jones of Dry Fork; a stepdaughter, Jennifer Eden of Myrtle Beach, S.C.; a sister, Beulah J. Green of Arkansas; three brothers, Paul Thomas Jones of Harville, Mo., Maurice Jones of Clarksville, Tenn. and Howard Jones of Dexter, Mo.; 10 grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren.
He was predeceased by a sister, Thelma J. Ludwig; and a brother, George Jones.
The funeral will be held 2 p.m. Wednesday at Whitmell Christian Church with the Revs. Butch Dillinger and Jack Oakes officiating. Interment will be in the church cemetery with military honors by the United States Navy Honor Guard.
