Fielding 'Felix' Kinley Funk
DANVILLE, Va. - Fielding "Felix" Kinley Funk, 86, of 28 Vandola Road, died Friday, Nov. 15, 2002, at Riverside Health Care Center.
Born May 23, 1916, in Fries, he was the son of Ernie William Funk and Ollie Bedwell Funk.
He had lived in Danville since 1934. He was a supervisor at Dan River Mills and retired in 1981 with 50 years of service. He was a member of Vandola Baptist Church and the Dan River Retiree's Club.
He was married to Estelle Teague Funk, who survives.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by a daughter, Cathy Lee Labiak of High Point, N.C.; a son, Gerald Wayne Funk Sr. of Goose Creek, S.C.; a sister, Mildred Layne of Woodlawn; a brother, Rex C. Funk of Fries; six grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.
He was predeceased by three sisters, Marie Radford, Virginia Kirby and Alene Carrico.
The graveside funeral will be held 2 p.m. Sunday at Danville Memorial Gardens Mausoleum with the Rev. Dr. Leroy Clack officiating.
The family will receive friends at the residence.

Clara Fitzgerald-Harston
BLAIRS, Va. - Clara Fitzgerald-Harston, 68, of 2545 Malmaison Road, died Wednesday, Nov. 13, 2002, at her residence.
Born Aug. 20, 1934, in Pittsylvania County, she was the daughter of Jacob and Elizabeth Palmer Fitzgerald.
She was a member of Shockoe Baptist Church, the Missionary Society, Community Outreach and Courts of Calanthe. She was retired from Danville Regional Medical Center.
She was the wife of Willie Harston.
She is survived by a daughter, Vanessa Harston-Hall of Newport News; three sons, Michael Harston, Brian Harston, both of Danville and Philip Harston of Newport News; two brothers, Mervin Fitzgerald of Blairs and Jessie Fitzgerald of Java; five sisters, Dian F. Wise of Brooklyn, N.Y., Romona F. Jones of Chester, Pa., Patricia F. Jones of Java, Irene F. Logan of Chester and Pamela F. Cooper of Columbus Height; seven grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.
The funeral will be held noon Monday at Shockoe Baptist Church with the Rev. Kevin McNeill officiating. Interment will be in the church cemetery.

Willie Harston
BLAIRS, Va. - Willie Harston, 73, of 2545 Malmaison Road, died Wednesday, Nov. 13, 2002, at his residence.
Born Sept. 8, 1930, in Pittsylvania County, he was the son of Lonnie and Addie Anderson Harston.
He was of the Baptist faith and a veteran of the Korean conflict. He was a self-employed barber and general contractor.
He was married to Clara F. Harston.
He is survived by two daughters, Vanessa Harston-Hall of Newport News and Thelma Gill of New York; three sons, Michael Harston, Brian Harston, both of Danville and Philip Harston of Newport News; three sisters, Thelma H. Fitzgerald, Polkie H. Fitzgerald, both of Java and Marie Stephens of Petersburg; seven grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.
The funeral will be held noon Monday at Shockoe Baptist Church with the Rev. Kevin McNeill officiating. Interment will be in the church cemetery with military rites by Fort Lee.
The family is at the residence.

Lizzie Marie Blackwell Henderson
YANCEYVILLE, N.C. - Lizzie Marie Blackwell Henderson, of 756 Blackwell Road, died Thursday, Nov. 14, 2002, at her residence.
Born Jan. 5, 1920, in Caswell County, she was the daughter of John Walter Blackwell and Senora Oliver Blackwell.
She was a member of Blackwell Missionary Baptist Church, where she was a member of the Missionary Circle and served on the kitchen committee. She was employed by the Caswell County public school system at Bartlett-Yancey Elementary School prior to retirement.
She was married to Percy Henderson Sr., who predeceased her.
She is survived by six sons, Percy Henderson Jr. of Reidsville, Bradford Henderson of Washington, D.C., Melvin Henderson, Walter Henderson, Arnold Henderson and Eugene Henderson, all of Yanceyville; four daughters, Shirley Jefferys of Temple Hill, Md., Joan Johnson of Clifton, N.J., Doris H. Blackwell and Kacine H. Graves, both of Yanceyville; two sisters, Adelaide Blackwell Foster of Yanceyville and Mattie Blackwell Watkins of Reidsville; 15 grandchildren; and 22 great-grandchildren.
The funeral will be held 2 p.m. Tuesday at Blackwell Missionary Baptist Church with the Rev. Everett Dickerson officiating. Interment will be in the church cemetery.
A viewing will be held 2-4 p.m. Monday at Fulton Funeral Home Chapel.
The family will receive friends 7-8 p.m. Monday at Blackwell Baptist Church and at other times at the residence.

Woodrow Wilson Neal
DANVILLE, Va. - Woodrow Wilson Neal, 79, of 364 Ripley Drive, died Thursday, Nov. 14, 2002, at Danville Regional Medical Center after five years of declining health.
Born May 27, 1923, in Gretna, he was the son of George Neal and Ossie Neal Neal.
He lived his life in Pittsylvania County and Danville. He was employed with Flowers Bakery and was manager of the Thrift Store, retiring after 40 years of service. He received a 40 year service award from Flowers Bakery. He was a member of Payneton United Methodist Church, past member of American Legion Post 1097, VFW and a member of the National Disabled American Veterans. He was also a member of the Modern Woodmen for 52 years.
He was a staff sergeant in the U.S. Army during World War II and served in the 44th Infantry Division with the 71st Infantry Regiment. He received the Medaille Du Jubile, the Bronze Star, the Good Conduct Medal, Combat Infantry Medal and a Purple Heart.
He married Martha Worley Neal on Feb. 20, 1947.
In addition to his wife of the residence, he is survived by a son, Duane Wilson Neal of the residence; two sisters, Mary Neal Dalton of Gretna and Margaret Neal Lefebvre of Fort Walton Beach, Fla.; and a brother, John W. Neal of Chatham.
He was predeceased by five sisters, Sally Neal Hamlett, Ethel Neal Montgomery, Polly Neal, Viola Neal Dalton and Barbara Ann Neal; and two brothers, Albert T. Neal and George W. Neal Sr.
The funeral will be held 2 p.m. Sunday at Wrenn-Yeatts Westover Chapel with the Rev. Thomas R. Boggs officiating. Interment will be in Danville Memorial Gardens with military honors by American Legion Post 325.
The family received friends 7-8:30 p.m. Saturday at Wrenn-Yeatts Westover Chapel and at other times will be at the residence of M.Y. and I.W. Carter, 4400 Mountain View Road.

Lottie Craddock
DANVILLE, Va. - Lottie Hyler Craddock, 99, of 289 Pine Lake Road, died Thursday, July 11, 2002, at Roman Eagle Memorial Home.
Born Oct. 25, 1902, she was the daughter of Joseph Robert Hyler and Martha Turpin Hyler.
She was married to Joseph Thomas Craddock, who predeceased her. She lived most of her life in the Bachelor Hall community and was of the Methodist faith. She attended Radford College and retired from Dan River Mills. She had been a patient at Roman Eagle since April 2002.
Survivors include one sister, Anne H. Fowler of Danville and a number of nieces and nephews.
She was predeceased by four brothers and four sisters.
The graveside service will be held 11 a.m. Saturday at Danville Memorial Gardens.

Charlie Haley
PELHAM, N.C. - Charlie Eurie Lee Haley, 86, of 128 Mount View Drive, died Wednesday, July 10, 2002, at the Brian Center Nursing Home in Yanceyville.
Born Dec. 14, 1914, in West Virginia, he was the son of George Washington Haley.
He was married to Thelma Jones Haley, who survives. He was formerly employed by Dan River Inc. and Dibrell Brothers Tobacco Company. He was a farmer for much of his working life.
Survivors include two daughters, Minnie Williamson of Pelham and Evelyn Haley of New York, N.Y.; three sons, James Haley and Earl Haley, both of Pelham and Charlie Haley of Danville, Va.; and one brother, James Haley of Danville, Va.
The funeral will be held 2 p.m. Saturday at Riceville Baptist Church in Java, Va. with the Rev. Ronnie Walker officiating. Interment will follow at the church cemetery.

Neal Haley
HAMPTON, Va. - Neal Thomas Haley, 66, died Monday, July 8, 2002.
Born in Pittsylvania County, he had lived in Hampton since 1964 and was a veteran of the Korean War. He was a member of the Newport News Fraternal Order of Moose Lodge and played in the Virginia Wanderers bluegrass band.
Survivors include three children, Ricky Haley of Danville, Thomas Haley of Stowe, Pa., and Barbara Freund of Dover, Del.; four brothers, Clyde Haley, Bennie Haley, Roger Haley, and Charles Haley; and three grandchildren.
The memorial service was held 7 p.m. Thursday at Providence Freewill Baptist Church.

Elizabeth Johnston
EDEN, N.C. - Elizabeth Hamrick Johnston, 85, of 330 South High St., died Wednesday, July 10, 2002, at the residence.
Born in Spartanburg, S.C., she was retired from Hairfields as an interior decorator. She was a member of First Baptist Church of Draper and was active in Awana. She was also a past Sunday school teacher.
Survivors include one son, Jerry Johnson of Danville, Va.; one daughter, Lynda Holderby of Pinehurst; five grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.
The funeral will be held 11 a.m. Saturday at First Baptist Church of Draper. Interment will follow at Dan View Cemetery.

Percy Mayhew
DANVILLE, Va. - Percy Ramsey Mayhew, 79, of 581 Iris Lane, died Thursday, July 11, 2002, at Danville Regional Medical Center following several years of declining health and seven days at the hospital.
Born May 2, 1923, in Gretna, he was the son of Charles Edward Mayhew and Elizabeth Rowland Mayhew.
He was married Dec. 17, 1949, to Jerleen Ferguson, who predeceased him May 13, 1997. He lived his life in Danville and Pittsylvania County where he was employed as a fixer with Dan River Mills Inc. prior to his retirement. He was a member of Shermont Baptist Church where he was a former deacon. He served in the U.S. Navy during World War II.
Survivors include one daughter, Donna M. Hankins of Danville; one son, Donnie Wayne Mayhew of Danville; four sisters, Mary Lemuel Easome, Clara Davis and Elsie Adams, all of Danville, and Gertie Neal of Portsmouth; three grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.
He was predeceased by one daughter, Doris M. Jones; two sisters, Estelle Bobbitt, and Julia McGhee; and three brothers, Thomas Mayhew, Ruben Mayhew, and James Mayhew.
The funeral will be held 2 p.m. Sunday at Wrenn-Yeatts North Main Chapel with the Rev. Bill Soyars and the Rev. James Albert officiating. Interment will follow at Highland Burial Park with military rites performed by American Legion Post 1097.

Troy Morrow
LAGRANGE, Ga. - Troy Iverson Morrow, 66, died Friday, July 5, 2002, at West Georgia Medical Center.
Born Feb. 24, 1936, in Randolph County, Ala., he was the son of Iverson J. and Ruby R. Dye Morrow.
He was a Mason, a Shriner and a member of Baptist Tabernacle, Elm City Masonic Lodge No. 544, and the Fraternal Order of Police. He was retired from the LaGrange Police Department after 33 years of service.
Survivors include one daughter, Melinda Smith of LaGrange; one grandson; one brother, Glenn Morrow of LaGrange; and one sister, Jean Bryant of Virginia.
The funeral was held 2 p.m. Monday at Striffler-Hamby Mortuary with the Rev. Charles Chapman and the Rev. Jimmy McMillian officiating. Interment was held at Restlawn Memory Gardens.
Curtis Pannell
DANVILLE, Va. - Curtis Pannell, 53, of 348 Old Quarry Road, died Sunday, July 7, 2002, at Duke University Medical Center in Durham, N.C.
Born April 6, 1949, in Pittsylvania County, he was the son of Robert Pannell Sr. and Mary Sue Pannell, who survives.
He was a member of St. Paul Outreach Center and was employed by Halifax County School System.
Survivors, in addition to his mother of the residence, include one son, Curtis Pannell Jr. of Waynesboro, Miss.; four brothers, Herbert Pannell of Roanoke, Robert Pannell Jr. of Danville, Dr. Hubert Pannell of Vernon Hill, and Garry Pannell of Chatham; two sisters, Brenda Poole and Bernice Giggetts, both of Danville; and two grandchildren.
The funeral will be held 1 p.m. Saturday at Howerton Funeral Home with Bishop Walter Anderson officiating. Interment will follow at Floral Hill Memory Gardens in Danville.

DANVILLE, Va. - Virginia Dillon Perry, 91, of 1473 Myrtle Ave., died 11:10 a.m. Wednesday, July 10, 2002, at Stratford Health Care Center.
Born May 23, 1911, in North Carolina, she was the daughter of George Dillon and Sarah Miller Dillon.
She was married to Ralph Lee Perry, who predeceased her. She was a member of Third Avenue Christian Church and had worked for Danville Knitting Mills.
Survivors include one daughter, Jean P. Lovelace of Richmond; two grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren.
She was predeceased, in addition to her husband and parents, by two brothers, Harold T. Dillon and Frank S. Dillon; and one sister, Mildred D. Hanks.
The graveside service will be held noon Saturday at Highland Burial Park with the Rev. Freddy Vicks officiating.
