Linda Lee Mikeal
DANVILLE, Va. - Linda Lee Mikeal, 62, of 337 Wrenn Drive, died Tuesday, Dec. 17, 2002 at Danville Regional Medical Center after being in declining health for several years.
Born August 13, 1940, in Charlotte, N.C., she was the daughter of A.B. Mikeal and Barbara McRorie Mikeal.
She had lived in Florence, S.C. prior to moving to Danville in March of 1993, where she was a homemaker. She was of the Baptist faith.
She is survived by two daughters, Debra Y. Tawney of Danville and Crystal M. Hinson of Arizona; two sons, Michael Bowers of Florence, S.C. and Harold E. Miles of Columbus, Ga; and four grandchildren.
In addition to her parents, she is predeceased by one sister, Patricia Ann Windham.
A mausoleum service will be conducted 2:30 p.m. Saturday in the Mount Hope Cemetery in Florence, S.C. Entombment will follow.
The family will receive friends 2-2:30 p.m. Saturday in the mausoleum prior to the service.

Mother N. Edna Patterson Baynes
BEAUFORT, S.C. - Mother Nannie Edna Patterson Baynes, 101, of 116 Robert E. Lee Lane, formerly of Danville, died Friday, Dec. 13, 2002 at Bay View Nursing and Rehabilitation Center.
Born July 16, 1901 in Milton, N.C., she was the daughter of John and Ellen Logan Patterson.
She married Bedford Bixler Baynes, who predeceased her.
She is survived by five daughters, Edna Taylor and Audrey Spellman of Lansdowne, Va., Caudie Harris of Danville, Va., Dorothy Davis of Bluffton, S.C. and Delores Mosley of Yeadon, Penn.; 18 grandchildren; and 21 great-grandchildren.
The funeral will be held 1 p.m. Friday from Mount Sinai Glorious Church of God, with Bishop A.R. Kinder, Eulogist. Interment will follow in Floral Hills Memory Gardens.

Hak Nan Pak
DANVILLE, Va. - Hak Nan Pak, 82, of 104 Bannister Court, died Monday, Dec. 16, 2002, at her residence.
She was born April 20, 1920 in South Korea.
She was married to Sang Bum Pak, who predeceased her.
She is survived by one son, Chol Min Pak of Martinsville; six daughters, Chu Ja Kim of South Korea, Young Cha Rader of Yuma, Ariz., Bun-yi Tanksley of Danville, Mal Suk Chizek of Seattle, Wash., Po-sun Bowles of Danville and Mi Hwa Stevens of Bedford; sixteen grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.
The funeral will be held 11 a.m. Friday at Townes Memorial Chapel. Interment will be in Highland Burial Park.
The family will be at the daughter's residence, 104 Bannister Court.

George William Pruitt
DANVILLE, Va. - George William Pruitt, 87, formerly of 464 Stephens Street, died Tuesday, Dec. 17, 2002 at Piney Forest Health Care Center.
Born Sep. 17, 1915, in Pittsylvania County, he was the son of Jonah Pruitt and Mentora Bennett Pruitt.
He had worked as a loom fixer for Dan River, Inc. He was of the Baptist faith.
He married Susie Viola Barbour Pruitt on Nov. 9, 1935. She predeceased him in May, 1974.
He is survived by one son, David William Pruitt of Danville; three daughters, Louise Story of Lexington, N.C., Betty Rowland of Danville and Carolyn Smithers of Providence, N.C.; one sister, Ruby Palmer of Michigan; 10 grandchildren and 7 great-grandchildren.
In addition to his wife, he was predeceased by four brothers, Russell Pruitt, McKinley Pruitt, Gary Pruitt and Wilmer Pruitt; and one sister, Lottie Pruitt Burchett. He will be highly remembered by a good friend, Margaret Ludbick.
The funeral will be held 2 p.m. Thursday at Barker Funeral Home Chapel, with the Rev. Silas Seamster and the Rev. Daryl Joyce officiating. Interment will follow in Floral Hills.

Lorraine Tucker
RINGGOLD, Va. - Opal Lorraine Tucker, 70, of 473 Cedar Road, died Tuesday, Dec. 17, 2002 in Danville Regional Medical Center after being in declining health for the past 6 months and in the hospital for one day.
Born Feb. 11, 1932, in Pittsylvania County, she was the daughter of Willie Daniel Marshall and Sarah Clark Marshall.
She had lived most of her life in the Mountain Hill Community of Pittsylvania County. She was a graduate of Dan River High School Class of 1950. She had retired from Dan River, Inc. where whe worked in the Knit division as a lab technician with over 30 years of service. She was a member of Floral Hills United Methodist Church, a member of the Airport Sunshine Ladies Club and a member of the Mountain Hill Ladies Auxiliary.
She married Arlie Garrett Tucker on August 26, 1950. He predeceased her on May 19, 1994.
She is survived by one son, Keith Garrett Tucker of Ringgold; four daughters, Kathy T. Hammack of Richmond, Va., Karen T. McGuire of Ringgold, Kerri T. Burchett of Danville and Kaye T. Whitt of Ringgold; one brother, Carl E. (Billy) Marshall of Danville; two sisters, Faye M. Peele of Pelham, N.C. and Martha M. Booth of Danville; and eight grandchildren.
The funeral will be held 2 p.m. Friday at the Wrenn-Yeatts North Main Chapel with the Rev. David LeFon and the Rev. Clay Knick officiating. Interment will follow in Floral Hills Memory Gardens.

Quinton Rudolph Watlington
DANVILLE, Va. - Quinton Rudolph Watlington, 58, of 642 Arnett Boulevard, Apt. 3B, died Monday, Dec. 16, 2002 at the Danville Regional Medical Center. Born Jan. 25, 1944, in Danville, Va., he was the son of Cora Bell Watlington. He was married to Pearl Watlington, who survives.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by ten children.

Nannie Shorter 'Polly' Wells
DANVILLE, Va. - Nannie Shorter "Polly" Wells, 90, formerly of 501 Westview Drive, died Tuesday, Dec. 17, 2002 in Riverside Health Care Center, after ten years of declining health and being in the nursing home for 20 months.
Born June 10, 1912, in Franklin County, she was the daughter of William Benjamin Shorter and Nancy Anne Fuller Shorter.
She was a member of Moffett Memorial Baptist Church.
Early in her life she lived in Franklin County, Va. She had been a resident of Danville since 1930.
She attended Callands High School and Chatham Hall.
She was retired from Anderson Manufacturing Company, where she worked for a number of years. She was the last surviving member of her immediate family. She married S. Thomas Wells on March 19, 1935. He predeceased her on January 9, 2002.
She is survived by many nieces and nephews.
In addition to her husband, she was predeceased by four brothers, J.B. Shorter, Page Shorter, Willie Shorter, and Samuel Shorter; and two sisters, Annie S. Clifton and Allie S. Rogers.
The funeral will be held 2 p.m. Friday at Wrenn-Yeatts Westover Chapel with the Rev. Steve Carlton officiating. Interment will follow in Highland Burial Park.

Cameron Draper Anderson
NATHALIE, Va. - Cameron Draper Anderson, 76, of 1090 Alchie Lane, died Saturday, Jan. 4, 2003, at Halifax Regional Hospital.
Born March 31, 1926, in Halifax County, he was a son of Robert Lee Anderson and Bessie Mae Wright Anderson.
He was a member of Childrey Baptist Church, a published author and a veteran of World War II.
He was married to Arey Guthrie Anderson.
In addition to his wife of Nathalie, he is survived by three daughters, Patricia Roberts of Alton, Angela Laws of Blythewood, S.C. and Teresa Carr of Nathalie; a son, Timothy Anderson of Nathalie; a brother, Tom Anderson of Nathalie; four sisters, Violet Lester of Halifax, Glennie Wade of Nathalie, Josie Guill of Scottsburg and Janice Wright of Rustburg; seven grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.
The funeral will be held 2 p.m. Monday at First Baptist Church of Republican Grove with the Rev. Rodney Barwick and the Rev. Shelton Miles III officiating. Interment will be in the church cemetery.

Raleigh Scott Burgess Jr.
DANVILLE, Va. - Raleigh Scott Burgess Jr., 73, formerly of Danville, died Saturday, Jan. 4, 2003, at Virginia Veterans Care in Roanoke after several years of declining health.
Born June 13, 1929, in Ringgold, he was the son of Raleigh S. Burgess Sr. and Maggie Jordan Burgess.
He lived most of his life in the Danville area. Prior to his retirement, he worked as a supervisor for U.S. Gypsum. He was a member of Moffett Memorial Baptist Church and American Legion Post #325. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army, having served during the Korean conflict.
He is survived by a son, Ronnie S. Burgess of Danville; two adopted daughters, Carmen Wright of Richmond and Sherri Mitchell of North Carolina; two sisters, Lessie B. Ferguson of Ringgold and Annie Mae Hipes of New Hope and three grandsons.
The graveside funeral will be held 2 p.m. Tuesday at Danville Memorial Gardens with the Rev. Steve Carlton officiating. Military honors will be conducted by American Legion Post #325.

Louis Edward Covington Sr.
DANVILLE, Va. - Louis Edward Covington Sr., age 78, of 150 Brookview Road, died Friday, Jan. 3, 2003, in the Riverside Health Care Center after a decline in health.
He was born on April 29, 1924, in Ringgold, Va., a son of John Lacy Covington and Mildred Bennett Covington.
He was married to Edna York Covington, of the home, who survives.
Mr. Covington was associated with Sears for 30 years until his retirement. He was a veteran of World War II and served in the United States Army.
He was a member of the Trinity United Methodist Church, a former charter member of the Danville Evening Lions Club and a former member of Glen Oak Country Club.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by two sons, Louis Edward Covington Jr. of Santa Barbara, Calif. and Glenn York Covington and his wife Rachel of Warrenton, Va.; a sister, Faye Covington Brightwell of Raleigh, N.C.; two grandchildren, Elizabeth Covington and Rachel Covington; two step-grandchildren, Thomas Buckley and Colleen Buckley.
Graveside services will be held Sunday, Jan. 5, 2003 at 2:30 p.m. from Highland Burial Park by Rev. Levi Stroud and Rev. Linwood Daniel. Full military honors will be given by the Honor Guard of American Legion Post #325.
The family received friends at Townes Funeral Home on Saturday from 7 to 8:30 p.m. and at other times will be at the residence.

Bobby Richard Crosby
DANVILLE, Va. - Bobby Richard Crosby, 67, of 1302 Kemper Road, died Friday, Jan. 3, 2003, at Danville Regional Medical Center after several years of declining health and 10 days in the hospital.
Born June 21, 1935, in Mulberry, Fla., he was the son of Harry Jefferson Crosby and Dolly Agnes McGilary Fortson, who predeceased him.
He lived most of his life in Florida and had been a resident of Danville for the past five years. He was retired from Roland and Bryant Conveyor Belt Company of Louisville, Ky., where he worked as an electrician. He was a member of the Eagles at Smith Mountain Lake, and a member of the American Legion Post #1097. He was a veteran, serving in the U.S. Air Force. He was of the Lutheran faith.
He married Annette Lester Crosby on July 28, 1997.
In addition to his wife of the residence, he is survived by three daughters, Michelle Vining of Frisco, Texas, Laurel Ann Crosby and Dawn Marie Crosby, both of Reno, Nev.; a stepdaughter, Alice DeJarnette of Gretna; a stepson, Ray Laws of Sutherlin; two brothers, Joey Fortson of Mulberry, Fla. and Jerry Fortson of Lakeland, Fla.; a sister, Judy Gilbert of Orange Park, Fla.; two grandchildren; three step-grandchildren and two step great-grandchildren.
In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by a stepfather, W.O. "Pete" Fortson.

Pastor Willie E. Hundley
CASCADE, Va. - Pastor Willie E. Hundley, 89, of 114 Wilson St., died Saturday, Jan. 4, 2003, at her residence.
Born Oct. 25, 1913, in Rockingham, N.C., she was a daughter of Jim Wilkerson and Mary Joe Thornton Wilkerson.
She lived in Pittsylvania County all of her life. She served as pastor of Evangelical Holiness Church for 42 years. She was also on the Trustee Board. After she retired, she was Mother of the church. She was a lifetime member of NAACP, Danville Chapter.
She was married to Shadrick Hundley, who predeceased her.
She is survived by a son, Bishop James E. Martin of Camden, N.J.; a daughter, Evangelist Gladys M. Woodson of Cascade; a sister, Carrie B. Graves of South Hill; eight grandchildren; 18 great-grandchildren and six great-great-grandchildren.
In addition to her husband, she was predeceased by a sister, Mollie J. Hairston and four brothers, Elonzia Wilkerson, James H. Wilkerson, Garland Wilkerson and Jimmy T. Wilkerson.

Harry Bidwell Ingram Jr.
DANVILLE, Va. - Harry Bidwell Ingram Jr., 42, of 3497 Horseshoe Road, died Friday, Jan. 3, 2003, at his residence. He had been in declining health since June 2002.
Born March 31, 1960, in South Boston, he was the son of Harry B. Ingram Sr., who predeceased him in 1994 and Edna Haley Ingram, who survives.
He lived most of his life in the Bachelors Hall community of Pittsylvania County. He was employed in the cost and recovery department of Dan River Mills for 25 years. He was of the Baptist faith.
He is survived by three sisters, Vivian Dodd of Brosville, Thelma Huffman of Bachelors Hall and Shirley Carter of Brosville.
The funeral will be held 2 p.m. Sunday at the Swicegood Chapel with the Rev. Dr. Charles Scearce officiating. Interment will be in Danville Memorial Gardens.
