DANVILLE, Va. - Elizabeth Fogleman Jones, 80, of 435 Mimosa Street, Danville, VA, died Wednesday, May 8, 2002, at the residence.
Born November 21, 1921, in Pittsylvania Co., VA., she was the daughter of Monroe Fogleman and Lottie Holley Thomas Fogleman, both deceased.
She was married to Brown Jones, living. Mrs. Jones lived all of her life in the Danville area where she attended Schoolfield Baptist Church. She was a homemaker and had worked at Dan River Mills during her early years. Her death was unexpected.
Survivors, in addition to her husband, include her daughter, LaVonne Jones Sours and her husband, Eugene Sours of Danville; daughter, Jennifer Jones Richardson and her husband, Russell Richardson of Morristown, NJ; one son, Michael Jones of Martinsville, VA; a special friend, Kathy Arnold of Martinsville, VA; 4 grandchildren; and 3 great-grandchildren.
The graveside service will be held 11 a.m. Friday, May 10, 2002, at Mountain View Cemetery by the Rev. David Turbyfill.
The family will receive friends Thursday, May 9, 2002, from 7:00 until 8:30 p.m. at Swicegood Funeral Home and other times will be at the residence.

Berta Morgan
DANVILLE, Va. - Berta Martin Morgan, 95, of 420 Cliff St., died Tuesday, May 7, 2002 at Danville Regional Medical Center.
Born March 29, 1907 in Chattanooga, Tenn., she was a daughter of Joel McPherson Martin and Carrie Mae Harmon Martin.
She was married to Carl Willie Morgan, who predeceased her. She lived most of her life in the Danville area and was a member of Community Baptist Church, where she was in the church choir. She was a homemaker.
Survivors include two daughters, Barbara Ann Dooley of Danville and Linda M. Owen of Keeling; two sons, Carl Eugene Morgan and Richard D. Morgan, both of Danville; one sister, Martha M. Cooper of Cleveland, Tenn.; six grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; three stepgrandchildren; and two stepgreat-grandchildren.
She was predeceased, in addition to her parents and husband, by three brothers, John H. Martin, Joel M. Martin and Oscar K. Martin, and four sisters, Louise Payne, Margaret Peters, Katherine Stoner and Ruth Martin.
The funeral will be held at 2 p.m. Friday at Community Baptist Church with the Rev. James Albert officiating. Interment will follow at Danville Memorial Gardens.
The family will receive friends from 7-8:30 p.m. Thursday at Community Baptist Church and at other times at the residence.

George Rader Jr.
DANVILLE, Va. - George Albert Rader Jr., 61, of 759 Arlington Road, died Wednesday, May 8, 2002, at Danville Regional Medical Center.
Born Sept. 28, 1940, in Richmond, he was a son of George Albert Rader and Anne Amelia Luntsford Rader Vintila, and a stepson to Valean Vintila, who survives.
He was married to Francisca Reyes Rader, who survives. He lived most of his life in Danville and retired from the military after serving 23 years. He served in the U.S. Army and the U.S. Marine Corps. He was employed by Dan River Inc. as an electrician for 26 years before retiring. He was a member of Christ the King Lutheran Church; American Legion Memorial Post 325; Elks Lodge 227, where he was a past exalted ruler; Fraternal Order of Eagles; VFW; and scoutmaster of Troop 356 Schoolfield.
Survivors, in addition to his wife of the residence and stepfather of Churchville, include three sons, George Albert Rader III of Keeling, William Thomas Rader of the U.S. Navy stationed in Italy and Joseph Keith Rader of Danville; one daughter, Linda Michelle Rader of the residence; two brothers, James Albert Blankenship of Ashland, Ohio and John Rae Vintila of Texas; four sisters, Virginia Ballangee of Fairfax, Jacqueline Horner of Richmond, Alice Lee Zayac of Schenectody, N.Y. and Helen Little of New Hebron, Miss.; five grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren.
The funeral will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday at Christ the King Lutheran Church with Pastor Jim Kleinfelter officiating. Interment will follow at Green Hill Cemetery with military honors performed by Dan River American Legion Post 1097.

Otey Bernard 'Frog' Adkins
BLAIRS, Va. - Otey Bernard "Frog" Adkins, 63, of P.O. Box 7, Blairs, died Sept. 29, 2002 at Danville Regional Medical Center.
Born Jan. 30, 1939, in Pittsylvania County, he was the son of Fodie Adkins and Toy Adkins, both deceased.
He was married to Jewel Barber Adkins.
In addition to his wife of the residence, he is survived by three sisters, Faye A. Emmett of Lynchburg, Patsy A. White of Keeling, and Judy A. Pruitt of Blairs and one brother, Emmett Adkins of Blairs.
In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by one brother, Vester Adkins.
The graveside funeral will be held 11 a.m. Tuesday at the Adkins Family Cemetery with Minister Rudolph A. Hearn officiating.
The family will receive friends at the residence, Roy Ford Road, Blairs.

Elizabeth Morton Howard
RINGGOLD, Va. - Elizabeth Morton Howard, 77, of 1805 Ringgold Depot Road, died Sunday, Sept. 29, 2002, at her residence.
Born in Pittsylvania County, she was the daughter of Edward Morton and Clarncey Hunt Morton.
She was married to Ernest Howard, who predeceased her.
She was a member of Mount Zion Missionary Baptist Church and employed at Richmond Cedar Works for many years prior to her retirement.
She is survived by two daughters, Gwen Russell of Butner, N.C. and Janice Inge of Ringgold; one son, Ernest R. Howard of Blacksburg; and numerous grandchildren.
The funeral will be held 11 a.m. Wednesday at Mount Zion Missionary Baptist Church with the Rev. Howard Graves officiating. Interment will follow in the church cemetery.

Nettie Lucille Carmichael Hyche
FARMVILLE, N.C. - Nettie Lucille Carmichael Hyche, 68, of 207 Hillcrest Drive, formerly of Danville, Va., died Wednesday, Sept. 25, 2002 at Pitt County Memorial Hospital in Greenville.
She is survived by her husband, Lee Hyche of Farmville, one son, Randy Hyche of the residence; a stepmother, Margie Carmichael of Danville, Va.; and two sisters, Cathy Colby of Danville, Va. and Shirley Carmichael of Chatham, Va.
The funeral was held Saturday at the Church Street Chapel of the Farmville Funeral Home. The Rev. David Harrington officiated.
The family received friends immediately after the service.

Sue Norwood Long
VIRGILINA, Va. - Sue Norwood Long, 77, died Sunday, Sept. 29, 2002, at Halifax Regional Hospital.
Born May 14, 1925, in Granville County, N.C., she was the daughter of Marshall Lee and Lillian Turner Norwood Sr.
She graduated from Oak Hill High School in Granville County, N.C. and East Carolina Teacher's College in Greenville, N.C. She taught at Bethel Hill High School in Person County and Oak Hill High School. She was a member of the Virgilina Woman's Club for many years and held many offices, including President. She served on the Virgilina town council for 18 years, was one of the leaders of the town council and worked hard in getting the Municipal Sewer System project installed and completed. She was a member of Florence Avenue Baptist Church.
She is survived by her husband, J. Stover Long; a son, James S. Long Jr.; and a sister, Ruth N. Neal.
The funeral will be held 2 p.m. Wednesday at Powell Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. D. Allan Coker officiating. Interment will be in the Virgilina Cemetery.
The family will receive friends at the home of Ben and Ruth Neal, 1544 Oak Hill Road, Oxford, N.C.

Ethel Edwards Mann
DANVILLE, Va. - Ethel Edwards Mann, 94, of 1319 Myrtle Ave., died Sunday, Sept. 29, 2002 at Danville Regional Medical Center after three years of declining health and a one-day stay in the hospital.
Born April 2, 1908 in Pittsylvania County, she was the daughter of John Thomas Edwards and Mary Mitchell Edwards.
She was married to Floyd Witcher Mann, who predeceased her on Nov. 18, 1973.
She lived her life in the Danville area where prior to her retirement she was employed at Dan River Inc. for 32 years in the Winding Department No. 2 Division; and was a member of Third Avenue Congregational Christian Church.
She is survived by one son, Clarence "Bob" Mann of Danville; two daughters, Ruth E. Mann of the residence and Shirley M. Perkins of Danville; two sisters, Jean E. Hancock and Irene E. McCune, both of Danville; four grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.
In addition to her husband, she was predeceased by one son, Claude T. Mann; and several brothers and sisters.
The graveside funeral will be held 2 p.m. Tuesday by the Rev. Freddy Vicks at Danville Memorial Gardens.
The family received friends Monday from 7:30-8:30 p.m. at Wrenn-Yeatts North Main Chapel and will at other times at the residence.

Daniel Webster Marshall Jr.
DANVILLE, Va. - Daniel Webster Marshall Jr., 71, of 177 Brockton Place, Danville, Va., died Sunday, September 29, 2002, in the University of Medical Center in Charlottesville, Va.
He was born on March 8, 1931, in Pittsylvania County, Va., a son of the late Daniel Webster Marshall and Cora Hamlett Marshall.
On June 11, 1951, he married the former Elizabeth Smith, who survives of the home.
Mr. Marshall was former President and Chief Executive Officer of Marshall Concrete Products. He was a member of the West Main Baptist Church, past-president of the Virginia Ready-Mix Concrete Association, former Board member of Virginia Associated General Contractors and a member of the Board of Trustees of Averett University.
He was a United States Army Veteran of the Korean Conflict and served in the 560th Field Artillery.
Mr. Marshall was a great person with a loving family. In addition to his wife of the home, he is survived by two sons, Danny Marshall and wife Kaye of Danville, and Steve Marshall and wife, Ginny of Blacksburg, Va.; four grandchildren, Jessica Younginer and husband, Jeff of Blacksburg, Va., Danielle Hylton and husband, Mike of Roanoke, Va.; Aaron Marshall and wife, Elyse of Austin, Texas, and Jennifer Marshall of Blacksburg, Va.; two great-grandchildren, Marshall and Davis Younginer; a brother, Robert T. Marshall of Danville and sister, Marion Marshall Clark of Danville. Also an exchange student from Brazil, Claiton Pires and wife, Arlete and their children, Dennis and Dayse.
Funeral services will be held Wednesday, October 2, 2002, at 3:30 p.m. from the West Main Baptist Church by the Reverend Bruce Wilson and the Reverend Glen Gentry. Interment will follow in Highland Burial Park with full Military Honors by the American Legion Post 1097.
The family will receive friends at Townes Funeral Home, Danville, Tuesday from 7:00 to 8:30 p.m. and at other times will be at the residence.

BLANCH, N.C. - James Andrew "Spooky" Madden, 62, of 2751 High Rock School Road, died Sunday, September 29, 2002 at the Alamance and Caswell Hospice in Burlington.
Born April 4, 1940 in Caswell County, he was the son of Queen Mitchell Madden Totten and the late Waymon Madden.
He was a member of High Rock Baptist Church and was a truck driver and farmer before retirement.
He is survived by his wife, Bessie Garland Madden, of the home; his mother and step-father, Queen Mitchell Madden Totten and Eddie Totten of Yanceyville; five sons, James Andrew Madden Jr. of Yanceyville, Charles Anthony Madden of Pesco, Wash., Clifton Andre' Madden of Burlington, Michael Brown of Michigan and Larry Brown of Reidsville; six daughthers, Victoria Madden of Temple Hill, Md., Lutricia Pyles of Blanch, Teresa Jones of Yanceyville, Carolyn Brown of Hyattsville, Md., Janet Miles and Shelia Graves, both of Burlington; five brothers, John Madden, the Rev. Clifton Madden, Sylvester Madden and Ralph Madden, all of Blanch, and Waymon Madden of Yanceyville; three sisters, Alice Graves, Lois Williamson and Mary Ann Ross, all of Yanceyville; 26 grandchildren and a host of great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by two sons, James Oliver and Woodrow Oliver.
The funeral will be held at 1 p.m. Wednesday at High Rock Baptist Church with the Rev. Robert Broadnax officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery.
A viewing will be held from 2-8 p.m. Tuesday at Fulton Funeral Home.

HALIFAX, Va. - Jesse Williams Adams, 53, of 1005 Hall's Trail, Lot 2A, died Aug. 20, 2002 at Halifax Regional Hospital.
Born July 6, 1949, in Halifax County, he was the son of Ellis Henry Adams and Florence McGregor Adams.
In addition to his mother of Halifax, he is survived by one son, Jess Harper Adams of Ruffin, N.C.; one daughter, Brenda Carol Adams of Vernon Hill; three brothers, Henry Lee Adams of Lynch Station, Frank W. Adams of South Boston and Roy Junior Adams of Halifax; one sister, Rosa Ann Oakes of Halifax and two granddaughters.
The funeral will be held 11 a.m. Friday at St. Pauls Episcopal Church Cemetery, Java, with Rev. Rudolph Jacobs officiating.

She was a member of Mountain Grove Baptist Church.
She is survived by one son, Charlie Chaney of Springfield, Pa.; three brothers, William Glass and Luther Glass, both of South Boston and James Williams of N.Y.; six sisters, Hazel Glass, Fannie Stephens, Marie Crews, all of South Boston, Hattie Womack of Blairs, Mildred Woods of Danville and Anna Palmer of Fla.; and three grandchildren.
The funeral will be held 6 p.m. Saturday at Mountain Grove Baptist Church with Rev. Arthur E. Crews officiating.

NATHALIE, Va. - Claude Elton "Chuck" Crenshaw, 75, of 7066 Hunting Creek Road, died Aug. 20, 2002, at his residence.
Born Dec. 13, 1926, in Halifax County, he was the son of Eula Crenshaw and Elise Newbill Crenshaw.
He was a member of Mt. Laurel United Methodist Church and the Glen Allen Masonic Lodge 131.
He is survived by his wife, Maxine C. Crenshaw of Nathalie; one daughter, Jennifer C. Millington of Mechanicsville; one son, Glenn Crenshaw of Eureka Springs, Ark.; two brothers, Hunter Crenshaw of Silver Springs, Md. and Charle Crenshaw of Halifax; two sisters, Helen Morris of Halifax and Polly Fitchlee of South Boston; and two grandchildren.
He was predeceased by a sister, Jan. C. Robarr.
