Stephen Edward Harrelson Sr.
YANCEYVILLE, N.C. - Stephen Edward Harrelson Sr., of 249 U.S. Hwy 158 East, died Aug. 20, 2002, at Danville Regional Medical Center, Danville, Va.
Born Oct. 7, 1919, in Caswell County, he was the son of Monroe Harrelson and Lucy Graves Harrelson.
He was married to Mary Bell Martin Harrelson, who predeceased him. He was a member of New Ephesus Baptist Church and was employed at Dan River, Inc. for thirty years as a machine operator prior to retirement.
He is survived by two sons, Stephen Edward Harrelson Jr. of Riverdale, Ga. and Thomas Jackson Harrelson of Greensboro; three daughters, Betty Harrelson Bellany of Greensboro, Wilhemena Harrelson Lipscomb and Ethel Omega H. Jeffries, both of Yanceyville; nine grandchildren; one great-grandchild and two stepgrandchildren.
In addition to his wife, he was predeceased by five brothers, Jim Harrelson, Terry Harrelson, Woodrow Harrelson, McCoy Harrelson and Bedford Harrelson; and five sisters, Odelia Cobb, Helen Pickard, Veola Williamson, Patty Lou Weatherford and Annie Pickard.
The funeral will be held 3 p.m. Friday at New Ephesus Baptist Church with Rev. William Lee officiating. Interment will be in the church cemetery.
The family will receive friends one hour before the funeral and at other times at the residence of his daughter, Wilhemena H. Lipscomb, 249 U.S. Hwy 158 East.

Robert F. 'Bob' Keesee
Mobile, Ala. - Robert F. "Bob" Keesee, 70, of 3661 Airport Blvd., died Aug. 19, 2002, at the residence.
Born May 9, 1932, in Pittsylvania County, he was the son of John William Keesee and Mamie Burnette Keesee.
He was retired from Loyal American Insurance Company, was an Air Force veteran and was a member of First Baptist Church of Columbia, Tenn.
He is survived by his wife, Betty Davidson Keesee of the residence; two sons, Girard Lander Keesee of Colorado Springs, Colo. and John Robert Keesee of Overland Park, Kan.; one sister, Louise K. Jones of Gretna, Va.; and five grandchildren.
He was predeceased by two sisters, Hilda K. Cocke and Sara K. Hiltzheimer; and four brothers, Roy Keesee, Earl Keesee, Edwin Keesee and James Keesee.
The funeral will be held 11 a.m. Saturday at Colbert-Moran Chapel, Gretna, Va., with Rev. R.G. Rowland officiating. A private interment will be at a later date.
The family will receive friends one hour prior to the funeral and at other times at the residence of Carroll and Lillian Davidson, 111 Highland Road, Gretna, Va.

Eugenia Glass Long
ROXBORO, N.C. - Eugenia Glass Long, of 321 Gravitte Road, died Monday, Aug. 19, 2002, at Person County Memorial Hospital.
Born Jan. 26, 1916, in Caswell County, she was the daughter of Johnny Glass and Josphine Swann Glass.
She was married to Alex Long, who predeceased her. She was a member of High Rock Baptist Church in Blanch and was a homemaker.
She is survived by three sons, Victor Long of Spencer, Va., Tommy Long and Alex Long, both of Mt. Vernon, N.Y.; three daughters, Norrell Lea and Elizabeth Glass, both of Yanceyville and Mary Ann McClain of Roxboro; sixteen grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.
In addition to her husband, she was predeceased by six sisters, Irene Poteat, Viola Johnson, Odell Glass, Laura Glass, Millie Glass and Ruth Brown; and three brothers, Earnest Glass, John Henry Glass and Archie Glass.
The funeral will be held 2 p.m. Saturday at High Rock Baptist Church in Blanch with Rev. Robert Broadnax officiating. Interment will be in the church cemetery.
The body may be viewed 2-8 p.m. at Fulton Funeral Home.

Mary Louise Rhodes
RINGGOLD, Va. - Mary Louise Rhodes, 83, of 3710 Tom Fork Road, died Tuesday, Aug. 20, 2002, at Danville Regional Medical Center after declining in health for eighteen months.
Born Jan. 26, 1919, in Mangola, Ill., she was the daughter of Edward C. Rhodes and Mary Sprague Rhodes.
She lived in Bradenton, Fla. prior to moving to Danville. She was graduate of the Practical Bible Training School and served as a missionary with the Baptist Mid Missions in Grethel, Kentucky, Liberia, Africa and Washington, D.C. She last served in Madison, Ga. with the Source of Light Ministries until her retirement. She was a member of North Main Baptist Church.
She is survived by three sisters, Marlee Bowen of N.Y., Noi Schrekengost of Ga. and Mildred Blumenstock of Fla.; and one brother, Russell Rhodes of Fla.
She was predeceased by three sisters, Honor Sleight, Blanche Sleight and Ruby Rhodes; and one brother, Norris Rhodes.
The graveside funeral will be held 10 a.m. Thursday at Highland Burial Park with Rev. Jack Noble officiating. Interment will follow.
The family will receive friends at the residence of Jack and Rhonda Noble, 3710 Tom Fork Road.

Walter Lee Sawyers
COLLINSVILLE, Va. - Walter Lee Sawyers, 80, of 114 Dixie Street, died Tuesday, Aug. 20, 2002, at Memorial Hospital of M/HC.
Born Sept. 10, 1921, in Carroll County, he was the son of William Monroe Sawyers and Susie Roberts Sawyers.
He was retired from American Standard Homes, he served in the US Army during World War II in the Pacific and European Theatre and was a member of Fair Haven Fellowship where he served as deacon and musician.
He is survived by his wife, Bonnie Swinney Sawyers of the residence; five daughters, Susan Walker of Martinsville, Nancy Richardson of Collinsville, Barbara Young of Henry, Brenda Foley of Martinsville and Marcia Deaver of Hampton; two sons, David Sawyers of Bassett and Randy Sawyers of Rocky Mount; one brother, Bert Finley of Fieldale; sixteen grandchildren and thirteen great-grandchildren.
In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by a stepmother, Grace Finley Sawyers, one sister and four brothers.
The funeral will be held 2 p.m. Friday at Collins Funeral Chapel with Pastor Randy Sawyers and Evangelist Donnie Young officiating. Interment will follow in Roselawn Burial Park.

David Demetreus Fitzgerald
DANVILLE, Va. - David Demetreus Fitzgerald, 16, of 208 Charles Street, died Wednesday, Aug. 21, 2002.
Born Jan. 24, 1986, in Danville, he was the son of David and Dorothy Morrison Fitzgerald.
He was a student at George Washington High School. In addition to his parents, he is survived by one brother, Darius Fitzgerald of the residence.
The funeral will be held 2:30 p.m. Sunday at Greater Deliverance Temple with Bishop Roger Jackson officiating. Interment will follow in Highland Burial Park. The family will receive friends at the residence.

Nannie Mae Johns
DANVILLE, Va. - Nannie Mae Johns, 72, of 249 Cleveland Street, died Wednesday, Aug. 21, 2002, at Danville Regional Medical Center.
Born Aug. 28, 1928, in Danville, she was the daughter of Taft Farmer and Ella Stewart Farmer.
She was married to Louis Johns Sr., who predeceased her. She was employed as a tobacco worker for Southern Processors and was of the Baptist faith.
She is survived by one daughter, Patricia Saunders of Danville; 12 grandchildren; and 18 great-grandchildren.
The funeral will be held 2 p.m. Saturday at Cunningham and Hughes Memorial Chapel with Bishop Major Hairston officiating. Interment will follow in Oak Hill Cemetery.

DANVILLE, Va. - Elizabeth Robertson Ligon, 90, of 38 Laurel Avenue, died Thursday, Aug. 22, 2002, at Stratford Health Care Center.
Born Aug. 16, 1912, in Pittsylvania County, she was the daughter of Elijah Robertson and Virgie Yeaman Robertson.
She married Willard H. Ligon on Dec. 22, 1932. She was a member of Vandola Baptist Church and had worked for Danville Regional Medical Center as a nurse's aide.
She is survived by one son, Norwood Ligon of Danville; one daughter, Arlene Reynolds of Kure Beach, N.C.; seven grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.
She was predeceased by her husband.

Willie Anderson Mason
HALIFAX, Va. - Willie Anderson Mason, 83, of 5083 Halifax Road, died Aug. 22, 2002 at her residence.
Born July 18, 1919, in Pittsylvania County, she was the daughter of Robert Harvey Anderson and Emma Lucille Anderson.
She was a member of Beth Car Baptist Church and a retired assistant to the clerk of Halifax County Circuit Court.
She is survived by one daughter, Emmy Mason Bass of Halifax; two sisters, Irma Hudson of Halifax and Hannah Moore of Arlington; one grandchild; and two great-grandchildren.
She was predeceased by her husband, J. Lacy Mason.

Charles Wade 'Pop' Mays Sr.
RINGGOLD, Va. - Charles Wade "Pop" Mays Sr., 76, of 3045 Ringgold Church Road, died Thursday, Aug. 22, 2002, at Danville Regional Medical Center after 11 days in the hospital and five months of declining health.
Born April 29, 1926, in Florida, he was the son of Charles Perk Mays, who predeceased him and Gladys Newbern Mays.
He lived his life in Pittsylvania County and prior to his retirement worked in construction and for Milams Truck and Trailer Sales.
He was a member of the Mount Tabor Baptist Church and attended Christian Fellowship Center Church of God.
In addition to his mother of Danville, he is survived by his wife, Gladys Weatherford Mays of the residence; five daughters, Carolyn Wilson of Blairs, Lucille Allen of Dry Fork, Peggy Mays and Shannon Stone, both of Ringgold and Betty Barbour of Sutherlin; three sons, Charles W. "Junior" Mays Jr. of Blairs, Victor Mays and Brian Mays, both of Danville; three brothers, Carl Perk Mays of Blairs, Harvey N. Mays of Moneta and Jackie N. Mays of Forest, N.C.; four sisters, Ellen M. Brumfield of Chatham, Fannie M. Ragsdale of Blairs, Sarah M. Farson of Vernon Hill and Dale M. Farmer of Keeling; 12 grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.
In addition to his father, he was predeceased by three sisters, Virginia Faye Mays, Betty M. Yeatts and Joyce M. East; and one brother, Ted P. "Billy" Mays.
The funeral will be held 2 p.m. Sunday at Wrenn-Yeatts North Main Chapel with Rev. Jeffrey Hopkins officiating. Interment will be in Danville Memorial Gardens.

Lizzie Elaine Musgrove
WASHINGTON, D.C. - Lizzie Elaine Musgrove, 57, died Aug. 20, 2002, at Providence Hospital.
Born March 2, 1945, in Pittsylvania County, she was the daughter of Charlie Musgrove, who survives and Eva Musgrove, who predeceased her.
In addition to her father of Java, Va., she is survived by two daughters, Deborah and Bonita Musgrove; seven brothers, John, George, Charlie Jr., Silas, Jesse, Tommy and Freddie Musgrove; and one sister, Ella Musgrove.
She was predeceased by a sister, Susan Musgrove.
The funeral will be held 11 a.m. Saturday at Sandy Hill Baptist Church, Sandy Level, Va.
William Jennings Clark Sr.
DANVILLE, Va. - William Jennings Clark Sr., 85, departed this life September 13, 2002 with his family by his side. Formerly of 293 Rambler Drive, he had been in Roman Eagle Nursing Home for twelve weeks.
He was born October 25, 1916, in Danville, Va., the son of Gertrude Wigington and John Taylor Clark. He was first married to Lucille Prillaman Clark who predeceased him. He later Marriage Mary Cassada Clark, who survives.
He is survived by a son and daughter-in-law William (Bill) J. Clark Jr. and Nancy Clark and a daughter and son-in-law Fran and Jimmy Motley and one granddaughter, Lindsey Kreger. He is also survived by five nieces and three nephews.
He was predeceased by three sisters and two brothers.
He was educated in Danville City Public Schools.
He served in the 247th Coast Artillary in the National Guard. He served from 1940-1945 during World War II in Northern France. He retired from the City of Danville Fire Department after thirty-two years of service.
He was a member of Afton Road Primitive Baptist Church and he was a Past Master of Morotock Lodge no. 210 AF and AM.
Grave side rites will be held at Mt. View Cemetary on Sunday at 4 o'clock p.m. with the Elder Dan Parker officiating.
The family will receive friends 7-8:30 p.m. Saturday at Townes Funeral Home.
